Food / Re: Why Do Nigerians Eat Suya At Nightfall? by TigerFoods: 5:20pm On Jun 25, 2021
Is there a reason you didn't like the meat?
mansakhalifa:
I grew up in an area where time of day didn't really matter when it came to making suya; the suya grillers/makers/sellers were always out and about their businesses at almost any time of the day- whether morning, noon, evening or dead in the night. The patronage was insane.

That was somewhere in Lagos West by the way. I miss that part of town.

I never really liked the snack personally. All things meat... I detest.
Food / Why Do Nigerians Eat Suya At Nightfall? by TigerFoods: 3:34pm On Jun 25, 2021
Suya is a friendly Northern Nigerian Street Barbecue. Yes, we call it friendly because of its affordability and acceptability across the nation. Nearly, every Nigerian have eaten this delicacy. Suya is basically spicy meat made with skewered beef, ram or chicken; kidney, liver and tripe are also used. This Northern Street food is widely enjoyed in every part of the country. It’s weird to note that Suya is prepared only in the evenings and by Northerners, we call ‘Mallams’. People believe that the best time to enjoy Suya is only at sundown. It’s like an unwritten culture. Even though you crave it now, you will have to wait till dusk to have a taste of its sumptuousness. Anyways whoever introduced the selling of this spicy meat only at nightfall deserves an accolade. We are sure you are wondering why Mallams wait till nightfall as the perfect time to sell this spicy street beef. The answer to your curiosity lies here.

Suya is more attractive at dusk
The sight of well-arranged glossy grilled meat can get anyone drooling. That sight is heavenly. Even if you didn’t think of buying suya after the hustle and bustle of the day, when you sight the glossy grilled meat, your taste bud goes agog. Then when you get close, it’s hard to resist the aroma, you may find yourself ordering for more than you planned to.

Evenings are Time for Hangout
Since Suya is a snack that pairs with just about anything, what better time to grab it than the evenings after the hustle and bustle of the day. Evening is a perfect time to relax after close of daily activities. People take advantage of this and hang out at their favourite fun spot where they gulp their drinks with suya. We also have bachelors buy suya, head home and add them to noodles for dinner. So, for the culture, Suya is best sold at nightfall. It’s like asking why the Champions League is played at night…lol

Preparation Takes Time
The procedure of making Suya is quite lengthy. The Mallam does everything himself; he shops the meat fresh daily, slices, skewers and spices the beef. He allows it to marinate for some hours. And when the marinade is ready, he begins to grill them. This process can take up the entire day. The longer the marinade, the spicer the beef.

The Daytime are for Other Hustle
The Mallam possibly has other businesses to attend to during the daytime, asides from selling Barbecue at nightfall. Whatever he makes as income, he reinvests in the Suya business. As time goes on, he may give all his attention to the hustle that profits him the most, then rest during the daytime.

It is a Norm
Nigerians are quick to accept a norm. They find it unusual for any Mallam to sell Suya during the daytime. Changing to what they accept as a norm may be a hard thing to do. They will hardly patronise any mallam that sells Suya in the afternoon.

Hot Stand/Weather
The Grilling spot is hot for any Mallam to stand there for such a long time. Though some of them may want to sell Suya during the day, the Nigerian weather is not conducive for them to do so. They rather do that at sunset for convenience.

Asides from Suya, are there any other street food that tastes better at night? Gist us here << https://www.tigerfoods.com/food-and-drinks/1-25/

Food / Unique Types Of People At A Nigerian Owambe by TigerFoods: 7:35am On Jun 10, 2021
One interesting fact about Nigerians is their love for parties (owambe). Owambes are usually a gathering of family, friends, friends of friends and random people who are there to celebrate occasions such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, child dedication, thanksgiving and even funeral. It usually requires a lot of planning to get it close to perfect; the food, travel arrangements, decorations, makeovers, asoebis, etc. Nigerian owambe‘s are always a vibe. At such gatherings, different categories of people who are there for different reasons abound. They are one of the reasons we love owambe and always look forward to attending them. If you are the type that likes attending parties, this gist is for you, who knows, you might fit in more than one category…lol

So get your Tiger Ginger Health Drink and some spiced crunchy Chin Chin, let’s dive in.

THE FOODIES
This set of people only came for the food; They are not interested in any other party activity. All they care about is the type of meals served. They dine from one table to another; feigning not to have eaten anything at all. They sit and wait for ‘Ask Me’ to give them another meal. These individuals always come with takeaway packs to carry food home. Some of them disguise themselves to help the celebrant share the dish. Thereafter, they go home with what is leftover.

PICKY SOUVENIR
These people are selective with souvenirs. They always ask for a specific type of gift item. More so, when you give them a common gift, they pick a fight. Some of them who bought Asoebi will request to be given a souvenir befitting of their status. Another set of people are the ones who will meet the celebrant to complain they have gotten no gift. This will make the unsuspecting celebrant yield to their demand.

THE PAPARAZZI
These are professional photographers; both invited and uninvited. The invited ones are there to make that day memorable for the celebrants. The uninvited photographers take pictures of guests with or without their consent and cajole them to pay for it, I mean, it’s hustle right. Suffice to say that at an owambe, some came to hustle and make money. They take these pictures, hurry to get the hard copy and rush back to get their payment. Even when the edited hard copy isn’t good enough, they expect you to accept them.

THE AWARD-WINNING DANCERS
This set of partygoers dance more than the celebrant. They bring an A-game to the dance floor and they end up becoming the centre of attraction. They wait for the Disc Jockey (DJ) to play their favourite song and then get into their dancing shoes to wow the guests. Many times, they are the asoebis and family/ friends of the celebrants.

THE FASHION SLAYERS
This set of people dresses to outshine everyone including the celebrant. They love to make a glorious entrance. They usually come and leave together as a group. All eyes must be on them. You can call them attention grabbers; they aim to arouse people’s interest to know more about them. An Owambe isn’t complete without this category.

THE MONEY GENG
This set of people are usually the quietest. They come in groups, hardly eat anything, except for bottled water. When it’s time for the celebrant’s dance, that’s when you will notice their presence. They spray bundles of cash and then leave almost immediately without taking a souvenir.

THE GATE CRASHERS
These ones are inevitable at every time. They go from halls to public fields looking for where events are holding. They do not know the celebrants in any form. They are there for the free food, drinks and souvenirs. Sadly, some end up stealing phones and bags from guests. There are also categories who make their way in, eat, drink and start embarrassing the guests following them around and begging for funds.

Many times, you find that you may belong to multiple categories of these party guests. Nonetheless, we love Nigerian owambes, they are huge stress relief.

If you have met any of these people, gist us your experience

Food / Meet Some Weird Foods Combos At Boarding School by TigerFoods: 5:25pm On May 18, 2021
Back in the days, every child looked forward to attending a Boarding Secondary School. The thought of leaving home to a new environment gave an exciting feeling. To this effect, they tried their very best to pass the entrance examination. Attending a boarding school introduces the average Nigerian child to an independent life, diverse culture and increased social quotient. Life in the dormitory is a sweet-bitter ride, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Let’s start with food. Many times, the meals shared at the school dining halls doesn’t go down well in the stomach. It’s either tasteless, watery or unhygienically prepared; so, you have to rely on provisions and contraband (extra foodstuff not allowed by the school authorities) to sustain you while at school. Indeed, life there was a survival of the fittest. If you are not strong enough, you may fall sick often as a result of the stress and the food. By now, you may be curious to know those weird meals. Fasten your seat belt and get a chilled glass of wine with some Tiger Cinnamon-spiced Chin-Chin for some juicy gist.

Soaked Noodles
Since it is prohibited to cook in the boarding house, you only eat whatever you are served at the dining hall. Afterwards, you lean on provisions (milk, choco powder, corn flakes, sugar etc) to combat hunger. Noodles is one of the contrabands not allowed by the school authorities but trust students to find a means to smuggle them in. When hunger set in, they soak the noodles in water to soften them and then garnish them with seasoning and sardine. This concoction is eaten with maximum satisfaction. If you have had this combo before, can you imagine eating this again?

Garri Cake
Boarding house students would usually make Garri cake to celebrate their birthdays in the dormitory. If you didn’t attend boarding house, this will sound strange to you…lol. This cake is a combination of Garri, Sugar, Chocolate, Sugar and Butter for coating. Indeed, it tastes good, though the cake is rock hard and cold. No one deserves a cold meal. Nevertheless, these teens looked forward to eating Garri cake on their special days at school with great joy.

Abacha (Tapioca)
This one is a no-go area. It is also contraband in boarding school. Yet, it didn't stop students from smuggling it in. To make this meal, they soak the tapioca in water and wait till it softens, then add palm oil, crayfish and pepper before eating it. If you didn't smuggle Abacha to school, then you must be an Ajebutter… lol

Soaked Oat
Surprised right? Yes! Imagine eating uncooked Oats. This, they make by soaking oats in water for a long time and then add sugar and milkvoila! food is ready. If this meal didn’t upset your stomach, we doubt if anything would happen to it now. They say it’s yummier than corn flakes. Anyways, as adults, we dare not eat uncooked oats served cold.

Sardine and Eba
This is the Grand-Mother of them all. Imagine combining sardine, palm oil and dry pepper to form a soup for cold Eba. The cold eba is made by soaking garri in water for it to rise and thicken and then mould to substitute for swallow. This combo tasted good back then but believe me, your stomach won't accept anything like that ever again.

In recent times, the weird food combos may not be so common as schools are more stringent with rules and pay attention to feeding kids right. It's alright if you can't relate to any of these, it simply means you didn't attend a Boarding School in the 90s and early 2000's Did you attend boarding school?

Tell us that weird meal you ate back then that you will never eat again if given the chance to. We can't wait to read them. Here << https://www.tigerfoods.com/uncategorized/1-20/

Food / Palm Wine: A Yummy Tweak To Puff Puff :P by TigerFoods: 11:14am On May 08, 2021
It's indeed true when they say, ''Variety is the Spice of Life''.
You may be familiar with the usual recipe for making Puff-Puff but certainly not this twist. Making Puff-Puff with palm wine is something you never imagined could be possible. Since small chops remain a legendary snack at every Nigerian Owambe, a taste of this African palm wine-infused snack will take your tastebud on an ecstatic journey. Did you know? Back in the days, when yeast wasn’t processed in dry shelf sold product, the yeast from palm wine was used to leaven bread. Enough said already. In this recipe, only a small amount of palm wine will be used, so everyone in the family can come on this ride. Without further ado, let's get down with it at the Tiger Kitchen.

Ingredients
1 cup All-Purpose Flour
½ Teaspoon Tiger Chilli Pepper Powder
½ Teaspoon Tiger Nutmeg Powder
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1/3 cup Palm wine
1 Teaspoon Sugar
2 Tablespoons of Light Yoghurt
Oil for Deep Frying

Palm wine Glaze
1/4 cup Palm wine
3 Tablespoons Icing Sugar (You can reduce this for preference)
1 Teaspoon Melted Butter
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice

Method

In a bowl, mix your flour, baking powder, Tiger Chilli Pepper, Tiger Nutmeg Powder and sugar and set aside.
After a few minutes, pour into the mixture, palm wine and light yoghurt and mix until a smooth and stretchy consistency is achieved.
In your pot or frying pan, add enough oil for deep frying. Then on low to medium heat, scoop your mixture in a little ball at a time and fry till golden brown.
Take off the heat and set aside.
To make your glaze, mix all the ingredients for making Palm wine glaze and place them on medium heat. Stir until it becomes a little thick, take off the heat.
Coat your Puff Puff with the glaze to achieve a glossy and yummy look.
Serve hot with a chilled glass of Gloria Cream Liqueur.

The taste of this twist of Puff Puff is more than you can imagine. Are you giving this recipe a shot anytime soon? Tell us here << https://www.tigerfoods.com/recipes/1-19/

Family / Smart Tips To Stay Safe In Nigeria Now. by TigerFoods: 1:41pm On May 01, 2021
At the moment, Nigeria is confronted by multiple security challenges in every part of the nation. There is consistent news of robbery, kidnapping, killings, pickpocketing and bag snatching to say the least. No matter how you look at it, waking up to see the next day is an underrated blessing. As it is, it is not enough to pay people to provide your security; you also have a role to play especially whilst going about our daily hustle. While we hope for better days ahead, we have curated ways to help you stay alert.

BE MINDFUL OF CROWDED PLACES
Indeed, we can't avoid going to places like church, market and even wedding parties. However, we must be alert. Hoodlums target those locations to cause mayhem. Hurry and leave the area as soon as possible while you still can. Avoid distraction and ensure your money and phones are with you. While in traffic, do the same thing, use your car's rearview to check occurrences behind you. When things look suspicious, find a means to get out of there.

LOCK UP EVERYWHERE
Before leaving your home, make sure you lock all doors and windows. Teach your children to do the same. Every door and window locks must be effective. If there are broken windows or seals where hoodlum may easily dismantle, you must ensure that there are correctly fixed.

MEMORISE A FRIEND'S CONTACT
We all have that one person we can call in times of trouble. Memorise their contact. Be it, friend, family, colleague or neighbour, have their phone numbers by heart; that way you can reach out when things don't go according to plan.

AVOID KEEPING LATE HOURS
This is a no brainer in these trying times. One must desist from keeping late hours, limiting late-night movies inclusive. Even within the neighbourhood, walking alone late in the night can attract unwanted attention. If you have to work late, take a taxi to your door or get someone to accompany you. Be aware of your surroundings and learn how to identify potential problems.

LEAVING VALUABLES IN THE CAR
Some of these valuables including phones, laptop, documents, and even ‘Gate pass’. If your entrance gate pass is left in sight, burglars will easily pick this up and drive your car out. If you have to leave valuables in your car, lock them out of sight. This is the best way to deter an opportunist thief. Your phone and purses are recommended to be out of sight while driving. Also, one has to show caution while moving around on foot or in public transport with valuables.

EXTRA CARE FOR CHILDREN
Keeping our children safe in this trying time has become even more challenging now. It’s not easy entrusting your kids to people like before; to care for them, pick them from school or even play with them. One must apply caution henceforth and educate their children on how to be alert; whom they can/cannot let into the house, places that they can no longer play/visit and especially information that they can/cannot divulge. The list is endless.

Regardless of how security conscious you are, things happen. Some situations are beyond your control. Do not hesitate to report crimes and stating stolen items with the Police. Talk to a security expert to learn more tips depending on your security needs. It also helps to have insurance to minimize your losses.

Ekuru and Ata DinDin Recipe

Ekuru, also known as white Moin Moin or Ofuloju is a popular traditional Beans delicacy among the people of South-Western Nigeria. This mouth-watering meal is a simpler twist to Moin Moin, with just salt and Vegeta Onion added to up the flavour. This yummy meal needs to be whisked to incorporate air in the mix, thereby making it light and giving it a fluffy texture. Ekuru is eaten with the Spicy Ata din din (Local Pepper Sauce). Ata din din is a sumptuous local stew that pairs well with Ekuru. It is prepared with any protein of your choice. What sets the Ata din din sauce apart is the locust bean (Iru) used to season it. You are missing a great deal if you are yet to savour this delicious meal. Let's head over to Tiger Kitchen to cook.

First, soak and peel your Beans. Then blend with little water till semi-smooth. Your consistency should not be too thick nor too fluid, then empty contents into a bowl.

With a hand mixer or whisk, incorporate air into your batter by mixing for 10 minutes. Mix till very fluffy. If you haven’t got a hand mixer, you can use a whisk, mix for 30 minutes. Back in the days, people used Mortar and pestle. But not anymore. We belong to the easy geng…lol

Scoop the batter into Banana leaves or Aluminium Foil. Steam for 50 minutes till fully cooked.

To steam, you can either use a steamer or a pot with Banana leaves. Then lift the leaves and add water to steam the white Moi Moi Then, cover and steam. Do check from time to time and top up more water when/where necessary.

Ata din din Stew Preparation

Then add the Fried Meats and continue to fry for another 10 minutes. Afterwards, add the shredded Smoked Fish and Prawns, continue to fry for 4 minutes. Family / Surprising Ways To Use Hand Sanitiser. by TigerFoods: 7:39am On Apr 19, 2021
Your Hand Sanitizer serves more purpose than you ever knew. It is quite an interesting fact that the pandemic made us use them often. It became a hot commodity in the face of Covid19. Everywhere you go, the hand rub is there to keep your hands free from germs, while going about our daily hustle. It indeed kills germs. However, there is more to it. These uses for hand sanitizer we are about to list out are bound to surprise you. Who knew it was so versatile? Sit back and relax as we share with you some multi-purpose uses of this disinfectant.

Polish your Phone screen
Your phone is one of the things we hold every now and then. It is time to make it look brand new again. Get a clean cloth or cotton wool and dab hand sanitiser on it. Afterwards, wipe your phone screen and watch it become smudge-free. Oh, and you could use it to clean your car mirrors and windows as well, which is pretty impressive.

Clean Household Items
Hand sanitiser has an alcohol content that makes it great for cleaning household items. Try it on sinks, faucets, countertops, and other surfaces. It wipes away specks of dirt. Also, it is safe to clean your computer keyboard with it.

Remove Sticky Labels
Do you have New Ankara fabrics? And need to remove the sticky label on it? We have a gist for you. Hand sanitiser comes in handy here. The alcohol in the sanitiser helps to dissolve the adhesive in the sticker glue. All you need to do is rub a bit into the spot and let it sit for a couple of minutes, then scrape it off.

Deodorize your shoes
We bet you have never known about this method. Sweaty feet often lead to stinky shoes, but they don't have to stay that way. Get rid of that funky smell with Hand Sanitisers. All you need to do is to clean the inside of your shoes with them. Afterwards, leave your shoes overnight to dry.

Remove Scuff Marks
Have scuff marks on your shoes? Don't worry you can fix it. It turns out hand sanitiser is one of the many things that can remove dark marks on light shoes. Dap a little hand sanitiser on the dark marks and watch it go off after leaving it for some minutes.

Shocked right?

There are many more uses we didn’t buttress above, like disinfecting minor wounds for quick first aid, disinfecting makeup brushes after washing them and erasing permanent markers from whiteboards, clothing and walls. Nothing beats a clean home. Now that you are aware of the multi-purpose uses of hand sanitisers, restock your home with them.

To get the best of Afang soup, garnish with assorted meats, smoked fish, fresh periwinkles, stockfish, and Palm oil. If you have a thing against Palm oil, then this sumptuous delicacy is not for you. Though you can opt for an oil-free recipe, to get the best of the unique Afang taste, Palm oil must be included. The Efik and Ibibios brag about this soup and you will too when you have a taste. Join us at #TigerKitchen to get it done right away.

Ingredients
1kg Assorted meats (Beef, Smoked Turkey, Goat meat, Shaki, Ponmo, Cow leg are ideal)
4 Bunches of Water leaves
3 Cups Okazi/ Afang leaves
2 Cooking Spoons Palm Oil
Smoked Fish
Stockfish
Periwinkles
Scotch Bonnet pepper
Larsor Beef Seasoning
Vegeta Onion
Tiger Chilli Pepper
Crayfish
Salt to taste

Procedure
Cook the tough meats first before adding the rest, add Larsor Beef Seasoning, Vegeta Onion and Tiger Chilli Pepper afterwards. Add stock fish and cook until very soft. Add salt.

While the meats are cooking, get the leaves ready. Slice and wash the water leaves to remove all traces of dirt. Also, wash and soak the Okazi/Afang leaves in hot water for 2 minutes. This process will help soften the Okazi leaves.

Afterwards, soak the smoked fish in hot water, clean to remove bones and traces of dirt then shred and set aside.

Transfer the Okazi leaves into a blender, add a small amount of water, and blend to your preferred consistency. You may also pound or grind the Okazi leaves.

When the meats are well cooked, add the crayfish, blended pepper, smoked Fish, Crayfish and Periwinkles if you’re using any. Set to medium heat. Leave to cook for 3-5. minutes.

Now, add the washed Water leaves. Then cook for 2-3 minutes. The water leaves will wilt in the soup as they contain so much water.

Afterwards, add the Palm oil, stir and combine, leave to cook for 3 minutes

Finally, add the blended Okazi/Afang leaves, stir and leave to cook for 5 minutes or until the leaves are tender enough for you. Taste for salt and pepper at this time and adjust if necessary.

Switch off the heat and let it simmer with the residual heat for another minute or two.

Food is ready!

How easy was that? Very easy! With Easter around the corner, thrill your family with this recipe.

Afang soup goes well with different staples. However, nothing beats this delicacy with a good firm swallow. How best do you enjoy it?

Food / Weird Food And Non-food Pregnancy Craving. by TigerFoods: 8:58am On Mar 25, 2021
Pregnancy is a roller coaster journey with lots of hormonal brouhahas. Women crave a lot of things during this overwhelming ride, thanks to her hormones in action. They experience at least one food aversion or a new sense of repulsion at the very thought of a snack they previously enjoyed. With each pregnancy, stage come different cravings that each woman responds to. Studies show that a very small percentage of ‘preggers do not experience this craving or can subdue them; the rest has stories to tell about having both weird food and non-food cravings throughout the pregnancy journey. Non-food craving is a condition called Pica where one craves non-food items like clay, paper chalk, soil, and plaster.
If you are wondering why your pregnant friend requests a burnt pot of Jollof rice, native chalk, or even the smell of dirt, we have gist for you. Let's laugh over those weird cravings’ women yearn for during pregnancy.

Ice cubes
The intense urge to eat ice cubes during pregnancy is considered to be a form of Pica. Studies show that about 20% of pregnant women regularly report craving ice cubes which put it at one of the most common cravings. They can’t resist chewing ice cubes no matter how hard they try to control the urge irrespective of the temperature of the day, night inclusive. We don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news but munching on ice cubes have been seldomly associated with a chance for teeth damage, premature delivery, poor growth (babies born too small and/or with a small head size), and low birth weight. You don’t want that to happen, right?

Burnt Food
While some women don't have an appetite for food, others crave a burnt pot of food; burnt jollof rice, beans, fish etc. There has been no explanation for why your body would be craving carbon at all. It may just be a learned taste preference or a liking of crunchy foods. The downside of eating a lot of burned food is that it may be carcinogenic (causes cancer). Eating more fresh fruit is a recommendation to knock off that craving. Try it and see if it changes your cravings.

Nzu (Calabash Chalk)
Spitting and nausea usually come at the early stage of pregnancy and in the bid to reduce these to the barest minimum, many women lick Nzu. It is a popular traditional remedy for morning sickness at that pregnancy stage. Some women enjoy the taste of native calabash chalk and take as much as 8 balls daily. Sadly, research says Nzu contain heavy lead. We bet you are lucky if you or your partner did not crave it.

Bitter kola:
Bitter kola craving is very common mostly in the early stages of pregnancy and especially with women who spit a lot. When ‘preggers' find this to be a remedy to spitting, they go all in and won’t be seen anywhere without them. We are curious, did you or your partner eat bitter kola? Was it helpful?

Extra spicy food:
Some pregnant women love would load up on pepper to make hot spicy meals every single time. While some say it could be as a result of having a boy, others wonder if it’s some sort of natural instinct to cool down (since eating spicy food makes you sweat, and sweating lowers your body temp). Either way, your taste buds often change during and after pregnancy, so don’t worry if you’re suddenly craving five-alarm chilli. It probably isn’t a “sign” of anything worth noting.

Alcohol:
Okay now, we are judging you..lol Let’s start by saying that there is no safe level of alcohol that you can have during your pregnancy. Whether you are planning a pregnancy, already pregnant or breastfeeding, avoiding alcohol is the safest option for your unborn baby. While many pregnant women reported having this craving from time to time, it strongly advised that they stay away from it.

Other Non-food cravings:
Other non-food cravings that pregnant women developed were the urge to eat chalk, charcoal, clay; to smell of soil, stinky toilets, laundry starch and soap. These women described the feeling they got afterwards as “euphoric”. When you hear that craving voice, our only advice is 'DON’T DO IT.'

The list is endless. Pregnancy is a mysterious but fascinating journey so if you are part of those whose tastebuds have gone haywire, we are not judging you. We just recommend that you keep it healthy and speak to your doctor about them.

So, tell us what weird food did you crave while pregnant?

Food / Best Foods To Feed Your Honey Pot ;D by TigerFoods: 9:02am On Mar 15, 2021
We are still in the month of celebrating women, and today on our list of discourse is the most incredible gift nature gave women; The Vagina. So, sit back, let’s have this convo cheesy Do you know you can have an odourless vagina when you eat healthily? It is not just about looking and smelling nice, does down there smell good too? We know it is an embarrassing moment having to deal with the fishy odour. We are here to let you know that it can be fixed. First is that your ‘Coochie’ is a self-cleansing organ regardless, proper care, such as good hygiene, safe sex and regular gynaecological visits play a role in keeping your pH in check. There are also foods which in combination with proper hygiene will definitely favour your honey pot cheesy Let us quickly dive right in.

Sweet Potatoes
Normally, sweet stuff doesn't pack a nutritional punch. But then again, not everything is a sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are filled with vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene which helps strengthen muscle tissues for strong, healthy vaginal walls. A bonus advantage is that Vitamin A is known for regulating sex hormones. Now more than ever is the right time to start incorporating it into your diet.

Greek Yoghurt
This yummy food tops the list. They contain lots of Probiotics, which are good bacteria that play essential roles, from mood and weight maintenance to balancing our immune system. Greek Yoghurt contains a good number of Calcium that balances your Vagina PH levels and keeps things fresh down there. They are tasty in parfaits. Grab them as often as you can.

Lemon
Are you surprised? Don’t be. Lemons are known to have lots of antioxidants that help to protect the vaginal walls from free radical damage. It is a great immune booster that protects the body from infection. Drink lemon water to help flush toxins and restore the pH balance of your ‘coochie’. (Please check with your doctor before including lemon in your diet).

Avocado
Avocados are ample in healthy fats, vitamin B-6, and potassium- all of which have positive effects on your libido. The healthy fats in Avocado lubricate your coochie and protect it from dryness and itchiness. Studies show that they enhance lubrication and estrogen levels, strengthen vaginal walls, and may even increase IVF success due to their unsaturated fats. They are extra tasty in smoothies, salads and other meals.

Garlic
Yes, you read right. However, we haven’t asked you to chew on Garlic just yet. A simple addition of garlic to your dishes boosts your immune system. They contain antimicrobial and antifungal properties that help prevent itching, odour and even UTIs. They are also tasty in stews, sauces and other dishes. Incorporate them for general wholesome life.

Water
It is the last but most important tip on our list. Your honey pot is moist just as your mouth, so drink water often to keep it healthy. If you’re not drinking enough water, your skin is prone to dryness- this doesn’t exclude your vaginal skin. If your vaginal skin is dry, then it’s likely that the inside is too. Other than itching and being dried out, it can lead to or exaggerate yeast infections. That’s not what you want. A woman must drink at least 3 litres of water daily to keep overall health. The amount may increase depending on her level of activity and personal needs.

Family / Mother's Day Special Gift Ideas by TigerFoods: 9:08am On Mar 06, 2021
The month of March is for women. First comes International Women’s Day on March 8 and then, Mother’s Day beckons. It's a month when women are celebrated in numerous ways, in this case, Mothers. We presume you have thought about gift ideas for your Mother or Mother figure in your life. If you have not given this a thought, it's high time you did. Good mothers are a rare gem. We can't thank them enough for all the sacrifices and impact on our society. To this effect, the ‘world’ sets out a special day to honour them. Celebrate your girlfriend, sister, fiancée or even someone that plays a mother role in your life.

We have curated a few gift ideas to make that day unique. Are you out of the country at the moment? We have you covered as well. Let’s gist.

Fabrics are perfect
Okay, this one sounds like a no-brainer but it’s still a thing. Do you know how much 'Hollandaise' means to an African mum even when they are not ready to take it to a fashion designer? How they’d rather store them in their box and admire it every day? If you know this, then get Ankara or any other fabric you can afford. Mum will appreciate it.

A date at a restaurant or home
This idea is a unique one. A nice treat at a fast-food restaurant with ambience or a picnic at the beach creates lovely memories. This will excite your mum a whole lot. Ordering a surprise food tray with a sax man as an extra effect will take her to the moon and back. Her smile and joy will all be worth it.

Custom Jewelleries
Mothers do not joke with their jewellery. They never attend any Owambe without wearing them. You can update her collections with a piece of custom jewellery which could be a handwritten bracelet. Her excitement will know no bound.

Personalize a Throw Pillow
Picture Perfect Personalized throw Pillows are the simplest way to wow your mother on this Mother’s Day celebration. Your Mum will be super excited seeing her picture or the names of her children on a throw pillow. We bet this is a brilliant one and probably new to you. Placing it on the couch will keep her remembering you each time she’s in the living room on it.

Honour Her Special days
All days might seem the same however, some days are different from others. Days like her wedding, the day you were born. These days mean so much to her. Do a frame with those days and pictures attached to it.

Spa Date
Have a 'Mum and Me' Spa date. Sometimes, the hustle and bustle of life make it hard to take care of ourselves. With Mother’s Day approaching, you can book the weekend to spend time with mum at the spa. This may be a different treat for her since it’s possibly her first time at the spa. A dinner afterwards will complete this precious moment. They are our mothers, right? And nothing is too much to give for their happiness. Trust us, she will be excited.

Wigs and Weaves
Women, despite their age, love wigs and weave. This is that one precious moment to possibly change their look from the not-so-trendy wigs in her closet. If you get one for them, they will flip the hair all day long and tell whoever cares to listen who got them for her hahaha.

Some of these tips would also suffice for gifting your wife, sister, aunt, friend and or any other mother figure in your life that you would love to celebrate on Mother’s Day.

We can’t wait to read about other gift ideas you have for mum or the one you’d be wowing her with from the options above. Someone may benefit from it. Do share these with your family and friends.

Food / Shop Smoked Fish Like A Pro. by TigerFoods: 1:31pm On Feb 19, 2021
Smoked fish is an essential ingredient in most Nigerian meal. It is a product of firewood or charcoal grilling. This end product has a unique aroma and taste it infuses into food. Smoked fish is quite affordable and very nutritious; it contains protein, healthy fats and low in calories. Ask any Nigerian on the street what White Soup, Efo riro and Egusi soup have in common; The answer is Smoked fish!
How do you avoid buying spoilt fish at the market ? It gives an unhappy feeling when you realise you bought a rotten fish to prepare that delicious dish. Well, you are not alone! Take note of these tips and say goodbye to perpetual buying of rotten smoked fish.

Excess oily Smoked Fish
When vendors are unable to sell off their old stock which has invariably turned stale, they try to adjust it to ensure they sell it off. They polish the smoked fish with vegetable/palm Oil. The result is a smoked fish with excess gloss and an attractive feel to the unsuspecting buyer. That brings us to tip number one; Flee from buying smoked fish with excess shine. Double-check over and over again.

The colour
The colour of smoked fish tells you if the fish was burnt from the smoking process. This burn may arise as a result of quick smoking where the vendor uses fire not the smoke to process the fish. Burning may also arise from over smoking the fish for too long. If you intend to get it right this time, opt for a bit of deep brownish colour as against dark or black colour. The black fish may have gotten burnt during the smoking process and the taste won't turn out great in your meal.

Sight the Stomach
This is one very valid area every shopper should be in the know of. The stomach of the smoked fish tells you how fresh or stale the smoked fish is. To detect the freshness of the fish, you would need to press the stomach of the fish. If the stomach is very soft, this means that the smoked fish is no longer fresh or may have deteriorated. Also note that dark discolouration of the belly walls indicate fish that was stale before they were smoked. On detecting such condition, avoid the fish.

Texture
At this point of check, the vendor already knows that you are a “pro” shopper and will start getting uncomfortable with you…lol Fish when properly smoked feel firm and springy to the touch, and the whole fish or fillets are fairly rigid. Fish that are overly soft, flabby and sticky on the surface were either in poor condition when processed or have gone stale over time after smoking.

The fleshy one has it
Okay, this one is a no brainer. To select the right type of smoked fish at the market, go for the fleshy one. The fatter the fish, the fresher it is. Smoked Fish that looks too dry and thin may have stayed long with the vendor. It may have gone through the fire many times and possibly stale.

Bonus Tip: Buy them in Bulk
Why buy smoked fish in small quantity when there is an option to buy freshly smoked fish in bulk and share? All you need to do is get a few friends to gather funds and purchase from the vendor straight out of the fire. That way, you’d be assured of the fish condition.

After you are done shopping like a pro, store properly and consume as desired. Store your smoked fish for longer by freezing it. This storage process has no downsides.

We can't gist about Nigerian foods without mentioning Garri, the food that saves lives. Garri is a cassava-based pan-fried coarse white/yellow granules. Addition of palm oil gives the white variant the yellow colour. Garri has its origin in West Africa. Originally, garri was made to be paired with soup as a full meal but it has evolved to serve as both food and snack. We may lack every other food item in an African home but certainly not Garri. We are glad to tell you that curiosity led us to explore different ways to enjoy Garri as a snack, and we can't wait to share them with you. This amazing food is rich in carbohydrates, Vitamin A, Iron, Folate and also starch. Suffice to say, It’s a healthy meal. Soaking Garri
This is the most popular way to eat the snack. A yummy combination of cold water, milk, chocolate, sugar and Garri. Go Nuts with Garri
Everything Nuts goes nut when it sees Garri . Let's start with Tiger nut, Cashew, Coconut and Groundnut. It will blow your mind away after adding these nuts to the cereal. One of the interesting things to know about this snack is that you can enjoy it with all the nuts together in one meal.

Garrinola
To make Garrinola, you need Greek yoghurt, nuts and fresh fruit. with nuts and added fresh fruits that make it quite healthy. The twist is using less of Ijebu garri and more of fruit and yoghurt or milk. It is very filling with the minimal garri grains and more fruits which is quite good even for kids. Family / How To Budget Amidst The Pandemic. by TigerFoods: 11:35am On Jan 23, 2021
Detty December has come and gone. A new year is upon us. The pandemic still lurks around, and we may go on another lockdown. Regardless, we are hopeful for things to get better. A lot has to be done to pull through hard times. So today, we are gisting about Family Budget. No doubt, food is one of the major things people are spending more on than they did before. Budgeting during a pandemic or time of crisis is essential to ensure that you and your family are well-prepared while maintaining cash flow to stay afloat. These tips are helpful to survive these harsh times.

Avoid accidental overspending
It is a significant step in money management and being debt-free. The time isn't right to spend on your wants. Focus on your everyday essentials, medical services, unexpected expenses and emergencies. Having total control of finance makes you worry-free of finance. And it gives you the leverage to enjoy life with your loved ones.

Spend less than you earn
The new year is a perfect time to review the previous year expenses. It will help you understand your spending habit better. Your bank statement and credit card will guide you towards making financial decisions. Remember, the aim is to spend what is remaining after saving/investing.

Keep track of Every spend
In the beginning, it may seem hard. Regardless, keeping track of your budget tells you when you are spending more or less than you earn. Print your monthly statement and review. In a scenario where you spent more, discuss with your family and adjust where it deems necessary.

Save to Achieve your Dreams
The excitement when we realise our annual dreams is unexplainable. Write them down, plan ahead and set reminders to keep you on track, then save! It takes a lot of hard work getting into the habit of saving. Be it vacation, car or house, saving for a dream helps you prioritise and budget better.

Involve the kids
While schools are yet to resume fully because of the pandemic, teach the kids how to manage especially during a difficult time, teach them money management.
