macjireh: mount on d bench....depends on wat TT wants to go for...if its to rely on counter,,he may prefer d trio of Timo...havertz...ziyech but on d oda hand,,to match city on possession and overcome their press den TT may opt for mount...Timo...ziyech....In all TT tactics will be down to availability of players.. I hope kante is available
I don't know if you guys just enjoy dreaming or what. So with all the evidences staring at you in the face you think TT will bench Mount for ANY important match?
I can tell you that after the captain and goalkeeper of the day, Mount is one of the first name in the team sheet. Whichever Wing he ends up playing, his name will be there.
TT values his hardwork. That's the most important opinion: the coach's.
BlueAngel444: Please werner again, maybe him go do another number 11 miracle
It should be Havertz, Ziyech, Mount
Werner's importance to the team cannot be overemphasized.
Nothing scares defenders like handling a striker that will make you always looking over your shoulders. Werner have the pace to explore spaces behind the defenders. He might be woeful in front of goal, but his assists numbers and sheer workrate makes him one of the first name in the coach's team sheet.
Since Atletico till now, we have not gone behind in any tie. Please we should keep it that way.
Arsenal and Leicester games have taught us that we find it extremely hard to turn around a game. And Pep is more pragmatic these days. Gone were those days he plays only attack attack attack.
If we concede first, I go just find screwdriver take lose my hope
Having said all that, I have a firm belief that we will come out victorious. We are going into this game as slight underdogs and I love it that way. Lets soak their pressure and hit them on the counter with Timo, Mount and Ziyech/Pulisic pace...
How else can dominance be expressed? Argentina and Brazil have been the only ones that could rival European countries because of their footballing culture but drug wars and conflicts have damaged that , how many young promising footballers from Brazil, Argentina or Uruguay, do you know today?
Can you show semi finalists for 1986, 1994, 2002 and let's see how many Europeans in each of the Semis and the final winner?
And you’re looking at things without taking other variables into consideration apart from sheer number of participants.
The fact that European countries have more slots in the World Cup is not really to their own advantage, as you thought. With probability it would seem so; 13/32 is way higher than 5/32. But it isn’t the entire truth. Spain would prefer to meet Ghana than France in the World Cup.
European teams are the toughest teams in the competition. So European teams mostly eliminate European teams.
If you pitch one European team, say Germany, against teams from other parts of the world, 7 out of 10 times they’ll win. But with another European team it’s usually 50/50 or 40/60.
So even if there are 5 European teams in the tourno, they’ll just beat everybody else and get to the final. Their path to the final will be easier.
You think England wouldn’t have a better chance to get to the last World Cup final if they had met Peru, South Korea or Equatorial Guinea in the semis instead of Croatia? The odds of them winning reduces when it’s against another European team than if it wasn’t.
They get to more semis and finals because they’re the best, not because of their numbers in the competition.
Almighty Europe 12 trophies.
Lowly South America 9 trophies.
With the number of countries from Europe participating in the World Cup, 12 time winners is so so poor.
Leyqute: Don’t the best players in South America play for European clubs?
Aren’t South American national teams filled with these players?
How many countries have won the World Cup with players from their local league? When last did that happen?
Europe getting more slots in World Cup makes it harder for European teams to win the World Cup, if you think about it. If WC elimination rounds were filled with Paraguay, Tanzania, Bolivia and the rest their odds of winning the tourno would go up because they have the best coaches, best players, best training equipments and the best exposure; beating those teams would be easier than beating another European side.
Let me be clear here. I am not discussing club football. The discussion is Euros vs World Cup. None of them is club competition.
If European team from the "toughest" competition, Euros, have more than double the slots of other continents, then it should be easier for us to be seeing and all European semi finals every tournament.
No other continent have more than 5 slots but Europe have 13 slots! Tell me how they wouldn't be dominating World Cup trophy haul if they really have the toughest continental competition.
Havertz10: when did the Berlin wall fall? When did the premier league with it's present format begin?
You can narrow all the growth that European countries have gotten down to post 1990, peace after the cold war led to unprecedented growth and development
There are 15 south american countries, there are 44 European countries, I no understand you, who suppose get more slots, side by side can you compare the competitive level of European countries vs their south American counterparts
Nigerian all star team with peak kanu and the rest wouldn't beat that Greece team, they were a team, once a team unites as one they can be very potent
format of the competition isn't a concern for me, na different conversation, i'm talking about the quality of the competition.
Before we start digressing, let me repeat the subject under discussion. Euros vs World Cup, which is tougher to win?
I am not against the European slots vs their counterparts. The point is, to whom more is given, more is expected. Compare the slots that Europe has with trophies won, you will see that Europe have underperformed in World Cup woefully.
If Europeans are underperforming in the World Cup, how can you tell me their own tournament is tougher?
Imagine the names listed as most likely to win Euros... England, Portugal, Belgium.... How many World Cups have they won between them?
@bolded...Format of a competition should be at the core of this conversation because it goes a long way to identify the toughest competition. You can't tell me that a group you can qualify 3rd in the table is tougher than a group you need to be top 2 before qualification.
If the competition format doesn't concern you, then no need for this conversation.
Havertz10: European football growth began 1990, their teams got better, their leagues got better, they milk the best players from leagues all over the world, only players that play in Europe are considered the best in the world, they even steal talented young players from other countries
One geographical zone has won that last 4 world cups that's 20years and they will win the next 5.
They have the most semi final and final appearances by any zone
Brazil had to field immortals to wrestle their wins
European teams are the best of the rest, if they are packed together in a competition to play among themselves, no competition can be compared to it
How can you agree that European champions league is the highest footballing competition in the world and turn around to say that club world cup is bigger because other teams from mediocre leagues participate, world cup is good cause every country on earth stands a chance but the peak of football today is European
The star player in most national teams world wide are the ones that play in European leagues
So many laughable submissions here.
I don't know where you got the notion that European football growth started in 1990. Italy and Germany started winning World Cups pre 1990.
@bolded... Please where in my post did I mention Club World Cup? We are discussing NT football here not Club.
Why won't Europe have the most semi final and final appearances when they have the lion share in slots alloted? Is it not shameful that after having the most semil and final appearances, they are just 3 trophies ahead of lowly South America?
Since the last 4 worlds cups, Europe have 13 out of the 32 slots. Tell me why they won't have highest semi final appearances.
World Cup have been a 32 team tournament since 1998. Euros just upgraded to 24 teams in last tournament.
What this means is that while World Cup teams will negotiate R16 before quarter finals, Euros go straight to quarter finals from group stage. Do you know what it takes to scale that extra round?
Countries like Ghana, South Korea, Croatia have underdog stories in the World Cup. Who knows, if it were Euros format, they would have actually won the competition. Conversely, Portugal qualified from their group with just 3 points and went ahead to win the tourney.... Would they have had that success story if it were World Cup format?
Look at Greece that Super Eagles use to wipe floor that year. In Euros, they shocked everybody by lifting the trophy. Who knows if they would have done it if there was an extra round to negotiate?
The most competitive geographical zone in football is Europe, they have all the best players and the highest level of team and league growth
A competition with just European countries is more difficult and competitive than the world cup
Lol
Out of 21 World cups so far, Europe (with way more that double the slot allotted to other continents) have won just 12 with South America winning 9.
As at the last World Cup, UEFA have 13 slots against CONMEBAL's 4 or 5...
If European's regional tournament is that competitive, the World Cup, which they have highest number of participants, should be a walk over for them. But the numbers show that they are actually struggling.
Only 5 European countries have won the World Cup. Out of all the representatives they bring, only 5 have won it. Lol. Compare that to 3 from lowly South America.
My point? A tournament of 16 participants (just upgraded to 24) can't be more difficult to win than a 32 team tournament.
Portugal drew 3 matches and qualified as 3rd from the group with just 3 points and went all the way to win the tournament. Can you qualify as 3rd in World Cup?
Debroslink: Euro is much tougher than the world cup. Last time they reached semis, Abacha was the head of states. The other time they reached the Semis, 9ja was in civil war.
Now that Euro is a 24-team format, it's gonna be more difficult for them. Don't place your bet on England
airmark: Why couldn't he encourage Matip or Gomez and call one of them, special. Maybe those ones are not his Liverpool brothers?
Depends on the questions the journalist ask him. VVD was the subject and he answered accordingly. If he was asked about Matip or Gomez, he will heap praise on any of them.
airmark: It makes sense, that's backing/hyping your man (just the only other Brazilian) in a Liverpool team filled with players from different countries. I still don't understand why you equate that to ''Liverpool brother in a Liverpool team''. Is Gomez not his Liverpool brother? Bro, e no make sense.
If you have worked abroad before with someone decent and responsible from Nigeria in same department, you wouldn't have asked this question.
Alisson is Fabinho's countryman, and just backing his only Brazilian brother in the team. So find another point to raise, as nothing can touch below statement by Alisson.
The thing is, you are looking at thus brother thing from only one perspective.
You call Fabinho his brother because they share the same NT dressing room and defend the same flag. When wearing the yellow and blue jersey, they go to "war" together and have each other's back. I don't dispute this. VVD is also his brother because they share the same club dressing room and defend the same badge. And, when wearing the red jersey, they go to "war" together and have each other's back.
Alisson encouraged his brother, Fabinho, by calling him the most important player in the team. In the same vein, he encouraged his brother, VVD, by saying he is special.
donstan18: Tammy and Harvertz who’s likely to convert chances?
Be honest.
Bone this Tammy talk abeg.
Even if him go feature at all, not as a starter. Match rusty Tammy you wan start for the most important match of our season? Na wao... Are you sure you have our interests at heart?
Even Aguero, the City legend, won't start that match sef.
SodO9: As you relegate her is good So Don j na funky, what a pemkelemess We have to limit entries of scummies moving forward those guys no sabi anything at all
airmark: How many Brazilian brothers does he have in Liverpool and how many Liverpool brothers does he have in Liverpool? Can you see that saying he was just encouraging his Liverpool brother doesn't make sense in that context? No offense.
The squad in every club is like a family. They look out for each other. Alisson is only encouraging his Liverpool brother VVD when he said that.
If you don't agree with this, then your Brazilian brother talk doesn't make sense too. Is Alisson related to Fabinho?
airmark: Alisson must have made that statement after VVD's injury. We can't rule out the fact that he is a utility player so he must encourage his Brazilian brother.
VVD is the most important player, even his mates know this.
Is Alisson not VVD's mate who said Fabinho is the most important player in the team?
If saying that is encouraging his Brazilian brother, then calling VVD special is encouraging his Liverpool brother too.
You talk as if you don't know players will always be nice to their fellow players in interviews. Hanging on to what Alisson said about VVD means nothing. That's why I brought up what he himself said about another team mate. No player will give an interview who won't heap praises on his teammate, even a glaring flop will get praise from his teammate.
airmark: Alisson said the success in that defence was majorly because of VVD as he was special compared to the rest. He said it in English not in a strange language.
Did he speak in swahili when he said Fabinho is the most important player in the team containing VVD?
Maybe "special" is more important than "most important"
airmark: Yes just like other top defenders had experienced huge losses which was not directly their faults.
We all saw how Liverpool lost multiple home league games consecutively when VVD was absent. It never happened once when he was on the pitch at Anfield. You can't price such feat.
Below is your Alisson telling you the bitter truth to keep you muted once and for all.
All this shalaye no fit clean that 7 goals conceded in a match
More than 30 league games after VVD comot for the defence, Alisson never concede 7.
Who knows wetin for happen if to say na VVD dey that period wey Liverpool dey lose anyhow. E for be 10 or more goals dem go concede
Capaldi: Where have you been for the past 2 seasons? If he still has ball in his body as you claimed, why is the club that paid 130million for him trying to ship him out?
