PoliticsOoni Of Ife Unveils "2geda": Nigeria's First Indigenous Social Media Platform by TimeManager(op): 9:32pm On Aug 18, 2025
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has unveiled the first indigenous website, known as 2geda. Unveiling the social media network at Ilaji Resort and Hotel, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Saturday.

The paramount ruler called on both the Federal Government, State Governments and other philanthropists across the nation to support the initiative to make the country great.

“We must support our youths to make Nigeria great again. They are intelligent and innovative, and they need our support.

“I want to appeal to the Federal Government, our state governors, traditional rulers, as well as the philanthropists to support this initiative so as to go higher like Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and others,” he urged.

Also speaking, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the platform is not just built on a post, but it is built on culture.

“We are quickly awake that national development cannot thrive without digital sovereignty. “The Federal Government is ready to support a strong digital economy platform like 2geda with a collective mission to foster security, collection and a sense of belonging among Nigerians at home and abroad.

“In a time when digital privacy, national identity and culture preservation are top priorities, this one-man collaboration offers a safe and relevant phase for Nigerians to connect, express, share and build together.

“Let me assure you that the Federal Government is committed to supporting innovative ideas like this that contribute meaningfully to national development, youth engagement, and technological independence.

“We can stay together not just as a said product but as an institution of the future, one that can compete with global giants and tell the Nigerian story in our voice and in our time.

“As we officially unveil the platform today, let us embrace this platform, contribute positively to its growth, and to all the kinds of digital environment we want for our children and generations to come.”

In her speech, the Acting Director of Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Hauwa Ringim, also urged Nigerian youths to think outside the box and make use of social media.

“We are not here to celebrate the indigenous social media website – 2geda, we are here to reflect on the uses of social media to curb cybercrime in our society.

“This is the first of its kind in Nigeria. We, at EFCC, under the able chairman, have been using all the social media platforms to strengthen our fight against cybercrime and any other criminality in Nigeria.

“Our Nigerian youths are creative, talented, innovative, and they have visions to create technology that will be accepted globally. We should be seen as people who create technology that will be useful to us.

“Social media has come to stay; it is now left for us to either leave it in the hands of the criminals to be a weapon or we should take it over from them to use it to protect our people,” she urged.

TravelFG To Connect Baro Inland Port To Lagos-kano Rail Network by TimeManager(op): 7:29pm On Aug 18, 2025
The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Ahmed Alkali, addresses the Adhoc Committee on Baro Inland Dry Port at the National Assembly Complex recently.

In a strategic move to revitalize the Baro Inland Port and enhance the seamless movement of goods across Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced plans to connect the port to the Lagos-Kano Narrow Gauge rail network.

The initiative forms part of the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s broader transport infrastructure agenda.

Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, Minister of Transportation, disclosed this during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the Rehabilitation and Operationalization of the Baro Inland Port in Abuja.

The Committee is tasked with engaging stakeholders and designing solutions to restore the port’s operational viability.

While the management and planning of Baro Inland Port now fall under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, with supervision by the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority, Senator Alkali highlighted the critical role of the Ministry of Transportation in ensuring the successful rehabilitation of the 190-kilometre rail line from Minna to Baro.

“This rail line will be connected to the historic Lagos-Kano Narrow Gauge, which has also been rehabilitated for freight under this administration.

Operations are currently paused due to the recent Mokwa flood, but with proper funding, full functionality can be restored,” the Minister explained.

Appealing to the National Assembly to appropriate funds to complete the project.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Saidu Musa Abdullahi, stressed the importance of translating plans into action, highlighting three major barriers to Baro Port’s full operation: dredging the capital channel to ensure navigability, completing rail connectivity between Baro and Minna, and developing access roads for cargo movement.

Hon. Abdullahi also urged the exploration of innovative financing mechanisms, including public-private partnerships and development finance institutions, noting that government budgets alone would be insufficient to restore the port to its historical role as a key economic artery in Nigeria’s logistics network.

Another of the legacy projects taking shape gradually. Along with Lagos-Calabar, Sokoto-Badagry, Lagos-Kano light rail, Eastern light rail. Others are Bodo-Bonny, East-West road, a lot more others.
Tinubu wants to turn Nigeria into Disneyland, I see Hollywood coming to Nigeria to shoot movies in the next ten years after the completion of all of these.

No fewer than 62 kidnapped victims have reportedly escaped after the Nigerian Air Force struck bandits’ camp in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Katsina State Government has confirmed the dramatic escape of 62 kidnapped victims following a manhunt of a notorious bandit, Muhammadu Fulani by the Nigerian Air Force that has a successful strike on his camp located in Jigawa Sawai of Danmusa Local Government Area, a community bordering Zamfara State.

This is contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs,
Katsina State, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Katsina.

The statement read, “It is noteworthy that 12 of the escaped victims are currently receiving medical attention at Matazu General Hospital. While 16 are waiting at the Army FOB in Kaiga Malamai.

“The Air Force operation, conducted on Saturday at 05:10 PM, forced the bandits to flee their stronghold, creating the opportunity for the mass escape of victims held captive.

“During interviews with the rescued victims, it was confirmed that the bandits fled as a result of the airstrike. The victims revealed that about 62 people escaped and took off in different directions.

“The majority of the victims were abducted from Sayaya village during a night attack on Monday, August 11, 2025, by Filani’s gang, which has been terrorising Matazu, Kankia, Dutsinma, and parts of Kano State.

PoliticsTinubu’s State Visit: Nigeria, Brazil To Sign MOU On Direct Flight by TimeManager(op): 8:48am On Aug 18, 2025
The Federal Republic of Nigeria is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federative Republic of Brazil on a Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) to unlock direct flights.

Mr Obafemi Bajomo, Special Adviser on Foreign Direct Investments to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Bajomo stated that the final documents and instruments in the BASA are ready for exchange and execution with the Brazilian authorities during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Brazil.

NAN reports that Tinubu left Abuja on Aug. 15 for a two-nation working visit to Japan and Brazil.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, Tinubu will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), holding in Yokohama from Aug. 20 to Aug 22.

From Japan, the President will proceed to Brasilia on August 24 for a two-day state visit, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva.

Bajomo told NAN that Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, will join President Tinubu on the high-profile State visit to Brasilia for the signing of the agreement.

According to him, the BASA is expected to pave the way for four to five weekly direct flights, likely operated by Nigerian carriers such as Air Peace and Caverton, marking a new chapter in South Atlantic aviation.

“At the heart of this visit lies a long-anticipated breakthrough, the signing of BASA, a milestone that promises to redefine air connectivity, trade, and cultural exchange between the two largest economies in Africa and South America.

“This journey began in May 2025, when the Minister led a Nigerian delegation to Brazil to open formal bilateral talks with his counterpart, Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.

“Those discussions, held in Brasília went beyond ceremonial pleasantries, they birthed a technical working group tasked with harmonising the BASA for imminent signature, “ he said.

According to him, both nations committed to bypassing bureaucratic bottlenecks, pushing the agreement from discussion to execution in record time.

“Today, that vision stands on the cusp of reality, with all statutory processes and ministerial vetting.

“Also, legal clearance by the Federal Ministry of Justice, and Federal Executive Council approval—already completed.

“The direct flights by the BASA will reduce travel time, cut logistics costs, and open new trade corridors for agricultural products, manufactured goods, and services.

“For Nigerian exporters, Brazilian markets will become more accessible than ever before.

“With deep-rooted Yoruba heritage woven into Brazil’s history, this agreement reactivates centuries-old cultural bonds, opening opportunities for tourism, festivals, and people-to-people exchanges, “ he said.

Beyond air routes, Bajomo added that both ministers had mapped out plans for technical cooperation, including pilot training and airport infrastructure upgrades, among others, to position Nigeria as a stronger player in global aviation.

“If signed as planned, the BASA will be a bridge of opportunity. It will connect two continents through commerce, tourism, and share aspirations, strengthening not only economic resilience but also cultural understanding.

“As Nigeria and Brazil prepare to ink this historic deal, they are not just signing an agreement—they are writing a new chapter in transcontinental partnership, one that could resonate for generations, “ he said.

Bajomo quoted Keyamo as describing Nigeria and Brazil as twins separated at birth, now reunited, which signals the the cultural and economic depth of the relationship.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated all the winners of the by-elections conducted on Saturday in 16 constituencies across 12 states, describing the exercise as another milestone in Nigeria’s democratic consolidation.

The President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he called “largely hitch-free polls,” devoid of violence and irregularities, while noting that the outcome reflected the will of the people.

According to the results declared by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won one, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one.

Tinubu specifically congratulated the new APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on what he described as an emphatic first electoral triumph under his leadership.

“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and when unity of purpose guides party leaders,” the President remarked.

He also commended APC governors, party stakeholders, and faithful across the country for rallying behind the candidates and ensuring the party’s resounding performance.

“To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not just a catchphrase. Our destination is a better, more secure, and more prosperous Nigeria, and by the Grace of God, we shall take you there,” President Tinubu said.

Nigerians must try to avoid making themselves look so vulnerable to countries like the United States and her European allies. While punishments should be metted out to offenders, every attempt should be made to stop the normalisation of this practice of uprooting Nigerians from their homes and taking them to the United States for "punishments". We have enough courts in this country to handle such cases. Let's use our judicial system here. Afterall, we seldom hear of Americans being extradited to Nigeria. It always starts slowly, and before you know it the American prisons system will become another concentration camp for Nigerian men as it has become for Black Americans..
Bro, better becareful and if you into such activities, better you quit now because American system wouldn't tolerate her citizens being exploited. If you're caught, you will be dragged into the next flight to an American jail.

EducationFG Unveils ₦10m 5-Year Loan Scheme For Tertiary Institutions Staff by TimeManager(op): 8:09pm On Aug 14, 2025
The federal government, Thursday, officially unveiled the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) for staff of tertiary institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education and selected state-owned tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the lunch, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the Fund will ensure a N10m interest-free loan for successful applicants, which will be repaid in five years, with a 12-month moratorium.

It offers loans of up to N10 million, capped at 33.3% of a beneficiary’s gross annual salary, for purposes such as transportation, medical expenses, and small business ventures like poultry farming. The scheme is being implemented in partnership with the Bank of Industry to ensure transparency and accountability.

He said through the TISSF, beneficiaries will have access to financing for medical support, transportation, vehicle purchase, small-scale enterprise and agriculture and academic advancement, including professional certifications, degrees and capacity-building programmes.

Beneficiaries are expected to use the loan to meet needs such as transportation, small-scale agro-business initiatives, medical expenses, family support, accommodation, and academic advancement.

“The TISSF is open to confirmed full-time academic and non-academic staff of any federal university, polytechnic or college of education, one state university, polytechnic and college of education in each state, applicants who must have at least five years to retirement, membership of relevant staff associations such as ASUU, NASU, COEASU and SSANIP is required.

Thanking the President for his approval of the scheme and other education-related interventions, Dr. Alausa said,

“The TISSF is another evidence of Renewed Hope in action. A demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to Education and support for its component parts, ” he said.

He likened the programme to the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a timely and much-needed support intervention for university, polytechnic, and colleges of education staff, academic and non-academic.

The Minister noted that the TISSF is a key component of the National Education Sector Renewal Implementation (NESRI) framework, which he is spearheading to revitalise the sector.

He noted that guard rails and a robust monitoring template have been established to ensure transparency and smooth implementation.

The Federal Government has formally presented the Foreign Carrier Operation Permit to Air Tanzania Company Limited at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking through a statement on Tuesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, who was represented by Ahmed Mohammed, said the initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and collaboration between Nigeria and the United Republic of Tanzania in the aviation sector.

According to the statement, “Federal Government has presented the Foreign Carrier Operation Permit to Air Tanzania Company Limited, at Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development headquarters, Abuja.”

He explained that the FCOP will standardize procedures, ensuring seamless interactions and efficient operations between Nigerian and Tanzanian aviation stakeholders while aligning with international best practices.

“The presentation of FCOP to Air Tanzania Company Limited is a significant step in our efforts to promote aviation cooperation and excellence, we are confident that this initiative will yield positive outcomes for both nations,” he said.

According to him, the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government’s efforts to promote regional integration and cooperation in West Africa and beyond.

Kana assured Air Tanzania officials of Nigeria’s readiness to provide all they need to operate, and instructed them to liaise with all the agencies in the ministry to meet their needs.

Also speaking, the Director of Air Traffic Regulation at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority,Yinka Babaoye Iriobe, said Nigeria is looking forward to seeing Air Tanzania commence operations in the country, noting that the nation has a lot of potential to make the aviation industry thrive.

She revealed that the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries would be signed at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja.

Yinka stated that the MoU will mandate ATCL to upload all flown passengers’ information into NCAA’s AVITECH portal, adding that the FCOP is the authorization needed by ATCL to commence operations into and out of Nigeria.

Earlier, the United Republic of Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Selestine Gervas Kakele, thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation and readiness to collaborate with Tanzania, describing Nigeria as the gateway to prosperity for all African nations.

“The movement of people, goods and services in Africa have suffered huge setback due to lack of regional connectivity and this s why the two countries are coming together to establish a durable flight link,” he said.

He stressed that ATCL is ready to commence scheduled direct flights between Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Lagos, Nigeria, following the successful completion of key regulatory requirements by the NCAA.

“NCAA has issued a Document of Authorization, Condition and Limitation to Air Tanzania after conducting a rigorous base inspection in Tanzania,” he noted.

The envoy added that the airline has secured approval for its Local Security Operation Procedures and appealed for office space at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, as well as residence permits for its staff.
