The marriage act actually says 21 years and the consent of parents is required if the person is below 21 ! The marriage act states that the consent of the person getting married is necessary and by law anyone under 18 can not consent to marriage.. it follows therefore that parental consent to marriage of a below 18 person is vain immaterial and indeed criminal. you are nothing but an ignorant person capable of causing great harm with your misleading post . It creates the impression that you are most likely a paedophile since I can't fathom why anyone would argue in favour of marriage to a minor

I will ignore your ad hominems. Please cite the section of the ACT that says that he consent of the person under age of 21 is required. Section 18 of the ACT says that a written affidavit of the father, or mother if the father is dead or not of sound mind or of the legal guardian if the mother and mother is sufficient to marry a person under the age of 21. Please provide evidence to the contrary.

There is no underage in marriage in Nigeria. Even in Lagos. The Lagos marriage act also allows that a father can give marital consent on behalf of his daughter who is below legal age. Lagos State Marriage Act Section 18.

What exactly is his offense? Since the girl is up to 16, Nigerian law allows the parents to give her out in marriage while natiive law allows betrothal even as a baby.

He probably doesn't have a lawyer. If he does, he can't go to prison for giving her hand in marriage. There are however other allegations of abuse against him. Those allegations are damning as well.

I was on my own, then I got a call from my friend that he's at an event center. I should come so we go flex. I reminded him that I don't drink alcohol. I can only take bottle water or malt drink. He said I should come that he's feeling bored.

Before I left, I took 1k with me in case something goes out of the ordinary, I will pay for my drink and off I go. But I like paying for what I order.

Immediately I reached the place, I saw him with three more guys. They have started drink and on their second bottles. I grabbed a chair, but as I was about to have a seat, he told me to bring 2k so he can add his and pay for drinks.

I'm pretty sure the boy paid no dime....the boy could be well known there due to they share same fence or the mother's shop could even been in the hotel...I'm sure the boy can't afford to pay for the swimming...they both have fault cos the hotel should have a lifeguards but the boy wanted to cut corners to swim, I'm sure if he paid he could be given one lifeguard,it's negligence of the mgt..anyways RIP to the boy

Stop with all these kind of reasoning. The statement of the lawyer trying to defend the hotel is in the writeup. If the boy wasn't a paying customer, the lawyer would have gladly stated it. Rather the Lawyer's argument was the the hotel has floaters and life jacket for it's customers which the customer (the boy) did not use. 'you are pretty sure the boy paid no dime' which hotel will allow someone swim for free? When it's time for the pool attendant to make account to the manager he will write that some people swam for free right? Because I have worked in a hotel before and your manager or supervisor simply counts the number of people in and out of the pool to determine how much you should account for at the end of the day.

Talking about affording to pay for swimming. How much is 500-1k that the boy cannot afford? The same money that children that age have been spending in game house since the early 2000s. Are we in the new world where children don't take their parent's money to go and spend on mundane things?

1. The police didn't bother to leave the station to investigate.

There are unfortunate times at pool.

1. Life guards (if the pool has any) can often times become negligent for brief moments.

2. There are rare times where you might meet the pool empty and you'd have the pool to yourself.

3. There might be other people at the pool who aren't good swimmers themselves and stupidity pushes a victim to go jump in the deep end.

Make that woman no withdraw any case. The proprietor of the hotel is already trying to sweep away the case. I would argue he pays a regular sum to the police department hence the reason they are pressuring the mother not to take the case to court. The useless police didn't even bother to investigate anything. Big shame.

I would think this data is wey understated. Perhaps they are only accounting for ICT jobs.
