Politics / Benue State Workers Receive Salary Alerts For The First Time In Seven Months by tinsel: 3:02pm On Jun 26, 2023
Workers in Benue State heaved a sigh of relief after receiving one month salary from the state government.

Some of the workers who spoke to our correspondent in Makurdi, the state capital, said they started receiving alerts on Sunday.

Oraduen, a worker under the state government’s employ, said it felt so good to get paid after working without pay for the past seven months.

“I feel so happy with the payment of this one month salary. I got an alert at about 8pm on Sunday. And my spirit has come alive again. The situation was so bad before now such that I had to park my car and trek.”

“Now, I can put my car in use; send some money to my sick my mother and buy food for my household. I’m not the only one excited, everyone in my office feels good too and those who haven’t been coming to work are at their duty post this morning. We hope to get another three months of salary before the end of the week,” Oraduen who didn’t want his first name mentioned, said.

Also, another worker, Fidelis, said he got a one month alert of payment of his salary on Monday morning after being owed for eight months.

Fidelis, alongside another worker, Daniel, expressed delight that the one month salary paid to them would cushion the effect of hardship which their families have been through in the past months of unpaid salaries.

The state’s Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Terungwa Igbe, also confirmed that the workers have been paid one month salary.
Meanwhile, a few others including teachers and pensioners told our correspondent that they are still waiting to be paid.

A teacher in one of the Primary school in Makurdi, who just wanted to be identified as Doosuur, said they were hoping to be paid as well.

Chairman of the Concerned/Aggrieved Pensioners in Benue State, Comrade Akosu Ioream, said, “Local government pensioners of primary school board have started receiving alert but that is not a verified news. As for Benue State pensioners which I’m the chairman, we have not started receiving any alert; we having our exco meeting now, so if something like that has happened I would have known.

“We’re hoping that any moment from now, we will get our alerts; I hear that the delay is because they want to rid ghost pensioners and other irregularities as our voucher is being prepared. I also heard that the governor wants to pay us more than three months so they are preparing vouchers. But, there are no yet authentic information as to when and how we will start getting our pension alerts.”

Politics / Court Affirms Ikechukwu Ukaegbu As Labour Party Gov Candidate In Imo State by tinsel: 9:12am On Jun 25, 2023
A federal high court in Bayelsa has affirmed Ikechukwu Ukaegbu as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo state, for the forthcoming off-cycle election.

The election is slated to hold on November 11.

Delivering ruling on Friday, Emma Akko, the presiding judge, said Ukaegbu also known as Ikenga, is the rightful candidate having won the gubernatorial ticket in the primaries conducted by the Lamidi Apapa constituted electoral panel in the state on April 16.

Akko said the primaries conducted by the Julius Abure-led faction of the LP in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states were unlawful and and illegal.

He added that the primaries were conducted at the time Abure was restrained by a court from parading himself as the party national chairman.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately upload names of candidates who emerged through “valid primaries” conducted in Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi states.

Nze Akujobi, Imo state chairman of the LP, hailed the court’s judgememt and described it as a true reflection of the will of the party.

He congratulated Ukaegbu and expressed confidence in his ability and the party to win the forthcoming guber election

Did you read the fact of the case? Did the defendant acquire US citizenship by Naturalization or by birth? If you acquired it by Naturalization, your renunciation is FINAL. NO APPEAL!
Afroyim v. Rusk, 387 U.S. 253 (1967), was a landmark decision of the Supreme Court of the United States, which ruled that citizens of the United States may not be deprived of their citizenship involuntarily.[1][2][3] The U.S. government had attempted to revoke the citizenship of Beys Afroyim, a man born in Poland, because he had cast a vote in an Israeli election after becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen. The Supreme Court decided that Afroyim's right to retain his citizenship was guaranteed by the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. In so doing, the Court struck down a federal law mandating loss of U.S. citizenship for voting in a foreign election—thereby overruling one of its own precedents, Perez v. Brownell (1958), in which it had upheld loss of citizenship under similar circumstances less than a decade earlier

Thank you. This is interesting but applies to Israel vs USA.

Below is what applies to Nigeria vs Other countries
According to the Nigerian constitution: http://www.nigeria-law.org/ConstitutionOfTheFederalRepublicOfNigeria.htm
182. (1) No person shall be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a State if -
(a) subject to the provisions of section 28 of this Constitution, he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a country other than Nigeria or, except in such cases as may be prescribed by the National Assembly, he has made a declaration of allegiance to such other country; or
As earlier indicated, section 28 states clearly that dual citizenship is allowable where one qualifies as a Nigerian by Birth as contained (above) in section 25 (1) (a-c). The only instance in which forfeiture of citizenship is allowed under the CFRN 1999 is by holders of: i) citizenship by registration under section 26; and ii) citizenship by naturalization, under section 27.

It happens. Any black- looking person can get a Nigerian passport.
I need proof that it is lawful.
I need proof that renouncing allegiance to a country and going back to take a political position in that same country is lawful.
In Vance v. Terrazas, the Court decided that having another citizenship while you are a U.S. citizen doesn’t imply you’re giving up your U.S. citizenship.

I googled this on uscis.gov/citizenship. It is clearly written on that US government website that the Naturalization Oath requires you to RENOUNCE and ABJURE ALL allegiance to your former country.
The proof you should be providing is a link, article that shoes that people who naturalized and swore this Oath (not those who had dual citizenship at birth and never needed to take the oath) can exercise rights of nationality in two countries.
I'd like to see your links if any. I do not have monopoly of knowledge.
I am one. I have both a USA passport and Nigeria passport. And we move freely through both countries immigration with both of the passport. Any other proof you need? And I got mine through naturalization.

Yes, the United States allows dual citizenship. If you are a naturalized citizen, you don’t have to give up citizenship from your country of origin. U.S. immigration law does not prohibit dual nationality. The U.S. Supreme Court also ruled that people can “have and exercise rights of nationality in two countries.”

Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

The government does not require naturalized U.S. citizens to give up their citizenship in their country of origin. Although the Oath of Allegiance to the United States speaks of renouncing “allegiance and fidelity” to other nations, U.S. immigration law does not explicitly address the topic of dual citizenship

Nobody needs any approval to quote what is on WAEC or Police Website as public records.

Police issue public reports from time to time as contained on their website and these are factual information and can be quoted and tendered as evidence in court anytime, anyway without permission from the commission.
This lady is a member of the labour and not a neutral witness. She contested an election under the labour party and even took INEC to court. Do you think the court will see her as a credible witness?

You can copy or download police reports from the Police website on your own. But you cannot use it in an official capacity without approval.
This lady was a labour party candidate in the last election and even took INEC to court. Do you think these two things did not destroy her evidence alone?

Sorry my brother I am not a confirmedzombie, I have a complete cross examination with me here and she made it abundantly clear that she downloaded the report from the AWS website and when they asked her if she used password to access it, she said no. Meaning the report was not a classified document and is for public consumption and use. If it was classified report, then, she has not right to download, it would even be protected from downloading or use. Now all anyone need doing is to download it and make reference to the author if need to be used. I know she must have provided the https for the court to access too. As an expert in the field she is qualify by standard to talk about the report as a private individual because that is her field of endeavour.

Just I have been telling you people, you people always want the petitioner to do thing in your own terms and conditions but always forgetting that these petitioner lawyers are more wiser than you people and more grounded in election matters. Don't forget some of them are part of those that just won the case for Adeleke in Osun gubernatorial election litigation this last month. Cool temper, emotional support and blackmail doesn't make you wise. As you're fond of blackmailing people in this forum, you need to desist from this.
Did you make any point?
