The calls for retaliation on SA businesses by some is wrong in my opinion. Nigerians will only be guilty of same Xenophobia (in this case worse because the business have Nigerians in employ). I read something written by the President of the Civil Rights congress of Nigeria, you might want to read and share.

It is just a paid advert open to all parties. They've made a statement on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/notes/mtn-nigeria/concerns-about-mtn-supportingendorsing-a-specific-political-party-through-advert/847796235261615 |
Looks like full advertisement even MTN made a statement on this. See: https://www.facebook.com/notes/mtn-nigeria/re-use-of-mtn-logical-pins-by-political-organisations/812189528822286 |
I wondered about some of those recharge cards too and discovered this on MTN's facebook page. Read below or view it on MTN's Facebook page _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ RE: Use of MTN Logical PINs By Political Organisations Our attention has been drawn to reports of circulation of MTN logical pins in the form of “recharge cards” allegedly branded with the logos of various political organisations in some parts of Lagos State. Consistent with best retail and distribution practice, operators and their authorised partners are allowed to sell logical PINs to dealers and trade partners, who in turn retail them to 3rd parties and members of the public who may also wish to use/reprint them for their private/commercial use. MTN takes all prudent steps to ensure that its dealers conform to agreed trade practices consistent with statute and policies governing the Industry. As a corporate organisation MTN is non-political and non-partisan. MTN Nigeria does not have any arrangement with any political party to produce specially branded recharge cards or merchandise. We also do not have any affiliation with any political party or organisation, either in Nigeria or in any of the 22 countries where MTN operates across Africa and the Middle East. Regards, Management |
initial gragra by the thiveing network. first it was a direct hit from MTN, saying in the papers that if you want to "port out from Etisalat to MTN" and now this.. Obviously the fear of Etisalat is the beginning of Wisdom for MTN Advert does not change anything.....Emptyem will still remain Emptyem I am still porting my MTN to Etisalat.
Abegi... go and sit down and enjoy the advert war! Like they say in Warri... First to do no dey sweet. Remember the Etisalat ad featuring Saka and someone who looked like Osuofia? No one said anything then. So now MTN has repaid them brilliantly, you are complaining. Who cares where you are porting to? If Etisalat doesn't like it, let them go and hire Patience Ozorkwo, Osuofia, or Yaw/Nedu! It means more jobs for boys, and more entertainment for us |
The MNP war has started and MTN has fired the first shot! Former Etisalat Ambassador, Saka has featured in the new MTN commercial on Mobile Number Portability. Click here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUVdnzC19oU The video is hilarious! How much did they pay this guy sef? |
Please people let us stop all this shameless display of ignorance. Go to Bella Naija and the MTN Facebook page. You will see the girl's picture there now... Let us stop acting silly! |
omoobajeje1: Then MTN should please mention precisely the name of the girl school if truly there Į̸̸̨§ transparency I̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ their promo. author=Pearl Joy]Dude,MTN dindnt say a UNIPORT student,it says a Port-harcourt student. How many colleges are in PH? Thats why u keep failing examsPearl Joy is right. The girl is actually a student of Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology. She is studying Medical Imaging. Those who live in Port Harcourt should go to the school and confirm instead of talking rubbish! |
Some people have been blinded by their perennial hatred of MTN so much that they cannot see awoof again... I like the price slash, and discerning customers will welcome the Booster Cards back into the market!! Let someone quickly do a comparison with the other networks so we can see which tariff plan is better... Although I suspect that other networks too would try and crash prices too... THE CUSTOMER HAS BECOME KING O! |
doctokwus: Funny enough,av neva seen anyone who won any of their promos, just get to see d winners on tv or newspaper pages.Their who wants to be a millionaire is one of d greatest scams ever visited on nigeria. They make several millions every wk frm dat program alone.Again their network, particularly BB& internet has bn terrible of late,so y dis irritating promo, maybe to top dere hyundai scam! The only sensible thing you just said is that their internet and BB service is poor. But haba... how can you say that one of my favorite progams - Who Wants to be a Millionaire that we see the full names and faces of people who win millions... *smh* This is just pure rubbish and you know it. Stop telling lies... God is watching you! ![]() |
duality: don't believe people win these promos. unless they just call me to tell me i've won just for being a subscriber without playing those silly games then i'll believe. remember when Glo said they'll give out 180 cars in 180 days. well glo and i, know they din't give out 180 cars.Reading the vanguard newspaper advert again, they said you just have to recharge at least N200 and then you qualify for draw. So technically you are not supposed to do anything. Just go about your business like before and see if you'll get lucky. If dem dash you, you no go take? ![]() |
Okay, i'll start with a disclaimer. I am not an MTN subscriber. Left the network for Etisalat. However, I think everyone here is transferring aggression over their bad network. Fact 1: People have won in their promo. I have three friends(one girl and two guy) who have won various amounts(small and large) in their past promotions and they almost made me buy another MTN line. Infact, e remain small I for marry the girl, only she was 18 years and gave the money to her dad to grow his business ![]() Fact 2: If you take the trouble of visiting their website, there is a list of winners. Here is the list for the 1 billion naira promo they did last year. - http://www.mtnonline.com/1billionnairamegareward/winners. By the way, have other networks published their list of winners? Other companies that do promotions, do all of them publish their list of winners? Does anyone remember those pepsi promotions back in the days, when they use to promise Daewoo Racers I wonder how many people won them back then.Again, I checked today's Vanguard, and they said you can take the plane or the cash equivalent, so all join. Please let us not tell lies against MTN. PS: This is another fact that I can testify now sha - Etisalat's Internet is ten times better than MTN's and I can testify!! ![]() |
Okay, i just checked all the UK charts i know, and Dbanj no even dey the top 20 sef... Disgusting waste of my internet time ![]() |
Some of the artistes need to work on their lyrics sha... They are still recycling the same old talk about haters, money, love and they are not doing it too creatively. This is why 2Face continues to reign over all of them... His lyrics are mostly on point! On the good side, all the beats are lovable... you can tell that Don Jazzy put a lot more into producing the songs than the artistes did in writing their lyrics... Sad. |
Been listening to the tracks so far, and Chocolate by Dr. Sid is definitely one of my favourites! I gotta download that one! D Prince will definitely get some of his tracks banned if the NCC hears them(especially track 9) Still listening to the rest(Thank God for ultra-fast broadband internet here in the office ) |
Just seeing this. Thanks ajanlekoko for the info... I should look out for that ad.Speaking as a man, i think it sounds nice As for sisi_kill, i'll be watching out for you well on Nairaland... I like the way you contradict yourself a lot, and I don't want to promise, but I'll try not to get under your skin too much. (Oya tell me that I am not getting under your skin! Oya tell me! )Cheers |
MTN just explained that they had some technical difficulties on their servers caused by repeated power outage. Check out their Facebook and Twitter accounts for update - www.facebook.com/MTNLoadedNG and www.twitter.com/MTNNG Maybe, just maybe it isn't their fault... but the almighty NEPA/PHCN. |
Sorry Pastor Stagger... But you get my drift sha |
The wise men who said this before knew what they were saying... Money is the root of all evil... Personally I like Don Jazzy more than D banj, but from the story, it is obvious that DBanj contributed a lot to the growth of the Mohit's business empire, while Don Jazzy took charge of the music development, which is the foundation of their success. So it's really a partnership My suggestion is that they choose a particular day as their official "divorce date" and all assets and liabilities earned before that day, be split 50-50. Its the honourable thing to do, and they should forget about who bought what for who. It was all in the spirit of friendship, so I wonder why it should all be brought to ruins now... ![]() |
kombats: just woke to check dat my prepaid plan has been change to mtn pulse like wtf. Do this telecommunication company has the right to change ur prepaid plan without informing u firstI just spoke to someone in MTN and they confirmed that all Funlink subscribers are still on Funlink, but they can migrate to MTN Pulse at their leisure. They said they try not to migrate people just like that so it must have been in error. ![]() From all the hype, I really think the package looks better than all the others. In any case, I will still shine my eyes first before committing ![]() |
Sorry all, Just checked and saw that Gadaffi died last year... ![]() Men, it's been loooonnggg.... |
Please when did Gadaffi die? Could it be him? ![]() |
AjanleKoko: Sorry to disappoint you, I don't work for Airtel. Neither do I plan to any time soon.Noted bro. My apologies if i misrepresented you... Our beef is not what is said, but what is implied. Sometimes, the message implied is very subtle that it doesnt offend, sometimes, it is very obvious. MTN's advert caused controversy because some influential women rights activists felt the celebrations implied that boys are more treasured than girls in society and MTN is endorsing that. (A whole load of crap if you ask me, and a lot of people I met felt the same way too) The degree of implication if any, was very subtle, which is why MTN were able to defend themselves well. Cant remember if they took out the ad sha.I dont know about Globe Motors, but the heading alone gives a strong hint of a woman's body, the part that we men fantasise about That one will definitely get the women angry(ask sisi kill for her opinion on that)So to me, it is all about the degree of implication, and what the Airtel ad is saying is that you are slow if you are not a millionaire at 24. |
Rotflmao @ vulgar. . . ![]() No wonder the message of the AD zipped right passed some people's heads.
Yes dear, your language was vulgar, and you know it. But you are forgiven even if you dont apologise...Then again, the fact that the message contained in the ad is the subject of so much controversy shows that the problem is probably in the head of the people who designed it, not the other way round. If you think the viewers of your ad are slow to understand, then why not design easy-to understand ads? If you say Nigerian society is not "sane", then why are you designing adverts that are meant for "sane" societies like UK, US etc? ![]() Make it simple. Make the message clear. Then viewers will appreciate and probably reward you with sales. This is why I say the makers of the ad just wanted to cause controversy because they thought that it will help sell their product... They should be careful. Controversy rarely generates sales... it just brings notoriety. Which is good for an upcoming artiste, footballer or entertainer, but Airtel? |
Valto: i have been noticing that whenever i av any recharge bonus and i make call to any of my registered mtn family and friends no, that mtn instead of reverting back to the normal 17k/sec for f&f call once i exhaust the bonus, keep charging 50/sec for the entire call...... e.g if i recharge 100 and gets #10 bonus. If i use it to call a registered f/f no, the call will only last for 3mins 40sec. Which means they bill 50k/sec for the whole call, just because of their useless bonus... Pls have anyone witnessed this ..........valto, are you on Twitter? Send a tweet to their twitter account on www.twitter.com/MTNNG. Their twitter name is MTNNG. I have tried it and they got back to me and resolved my issue! Make sure you also send your number so they can investigate. And try not to abuse them sha... ![]() |
This is what happens when you start negotiating with people who love violence... threats, greed, money, injustice... His pocket money has finished, that's why he is talking rubbish. He is not well abeg. |
MotOnyx: . Must u add insult 2ur comment? As a rule, I try not to, but this guy's talk just make me vex. Although freedom of expression is a right, hate speech is not. Anyway, I apologise if I sounded rude, but it is this kind of thinking/talking that brings out the Nigerian in me ![]() |
olapo: only the mohits crew and God knows what the IBO boys are doing to the most successful yoruba guy in the crew...he has to move on and he took a very bold earthquaking step...i wish him well, and i hope he doesn't suffer what black entertainers in yankee suffered or suffers...like MJ,R KELLY,AKON,MIKE TYSON.E.T.CThis mode of thinking is pitiful sad and disgusting. Must everything be about tribe? So Wande Coal and K Switch are Igbo boys? For you to describe Mo Hits as Ibo based is absolute rubbish. The group performs a lot of songs in Igbo and Yoruba, I would have thought the Hausa people would be complaining. SHAME ON YOU for thinking like this. SHAME!!!! ![]() As for black entertainers in the US, I wont comment on that but would leave you to your ignorance... |
I agree with sharpman... I know it is hard for some people to agree, but the sad reality is that graduating from a university does not automatically dictate how much you should earn... There is so much cheap labour that it is not possible to dictate wages again. Again, that type of thinking has been smashed by young drop-outs who now earn so much more by adding value as musicians, businessmen, actors, e.t.c. It is the same thing that happens abroad too, so anyone who feels the salary is not enough to take you home, should either quit(and lost the experience you will gain that will help you in future jobs) or cut your coat according to your size, stick it for awhile and embrace learning. |
First off, I agree that the money is too small. That said, however the NLC Chairman didn't say that negotiations had ended. He said it was still ongoing. So the amount paid will probably ensure that staff can get back to work with the hope that they will receive something better as negotiations continue. Let us be realistic here: NEGATIVE 1- Salary is still not as big as hoped small, but is still being negotiated 2 - People sat and relaxed at home for a few days... (this is negative If you are CNSSL)POSITIVE 1 - The objective of the protest, increase in salary has been partially achieved. 2 - Negotiations are ongoing to lead to more increases 3 - Noone is going to be victimised or lose his/her job To me, this represents serious progress, and instead of thanking God that something positive is being done, some people here are pretending to know more than NLC that negotiated the amount...HABA! Honestly, would you rather they sit at home and stay unemployed? |
Reading all the comments, its very easy to identify the Airtel staff who are vigorously trying to defend their ad. Sisi Kill, Olitox, Ajanlekoko and Mr. BrownJay et al, well done.Your arguments are somewhat valid and you are definitely entitled to your opinion(although sisi kill's use of vulgar language to push her point, is in bad taste, and definitely vulgar!) To the advert, the impression it creates is aspirational, i.e. that only those who are successful, and who are able to identify opportunities quickly and use speed to their advantage to create success, should use Airtel's Internet. This means that the young man and woman looking at the advert and who wants to succeed fast, should also use Airtel. This is what i think it is trying to say(Now all these claims are basically untrue, but that discussion is for another day) That said, methinks the advert was created to cause controversy, which is a good thing if you want to sell your product sometimes. However, let us call a spade a spade, the advert should be taken off or modified. Why? 1. It fosters the impression in the minds of youth that if you have not made your millions by 24, then you have not truly succeeded. You can easily point out seun and other young people who may have succeeded, but for every one success story, you have thousands who have failed, and ads like this does not help matters. It is insensitive. 2. It is unrealistic to preach to young people about making millions by 24,especially in a country like ours. Forget that some have been able to achieve it. The few who made it legally will tell you how hard it was, and how lucky they were... (My annual salary at 25 was just over a million, but I know how hard/lucky it was to get that job. BTW, if you earn a million a year, does that really make you a millionaire in Nigeria? Hmmm...) 3. In a country where a lot of young people make millions through internet fraud, an internet ad like this is definitely in bad taste, and the makers of the ad should have shown better discretion in their judgement. However, like i said, maybe the desire was to cause controversy, which translates to popularity and then sales... or in some cases, rejection. Its a risky gamble... These are just a few, and there are many other reasons. So while airtel staff and supporters can adduce several arguments to push their cause, the truth is that a corporate organisation should know better than to publish an advert about an internet service which talks about becoming a millionaire at 24, in a country that suffers a bad reputation for internet fraud. That is why the ad should be removed or amended. Oya, sisi kill and other Airtel supporters, take your best shots! And let's see if you can keep it clean and non-personal! |
