As a prospective masters degree student, you have to have a broad area of research that you are very passionate about. So you could read up on it, and if asked, just talk (tangentially) around it. At this stage you might not need to speak about the nitty-gritty of that research area, but just mention it (if asked), so as to show that you are not clueless. daudmd: Thank you for the reply. But what I am asking is we have no research area we only had statement of purpose? |

Dear Friends, I have a question please. I am about to commence an Mphil in Transportation in Nigeria. After the Mphil, is there any possibility of getting funding (i.e full scholarship) to do the PhD itself in any good school (possibly in Germany, UK, US or Canada)? I mean if I am able to get very good grades upon completion of the Mphil? I have a first degree in Urban and Regional Planning, and a Masters in Environmental pollution control. The prospective Mphil, as I stated earlier, is in Transportation. Thanks guys... |

oke48: I understand how painful this can be but don't give up on your dreams. I am new here but I can for sure give you some advice on securing a scholarship, but that would be highly dependent on your previous academic strength/performance. I have a few questions for you?
(1) What discipline are you?
(2) Where did you obtain your BSc and MSc?
(3) What are your grades?
I don't expect you to reply here but you can PM me if you want further conversation.
Good luck Pls send me your email address, mine is oadeniji1@gmail.com Thanks for your concern. |

I emailed BTU and got a response today saying that although tuition is free, they require students to have secured scholarship before agreeing to supervise the prospective PhD students. They claim it is because the course is very intense and cannot afford the distraction of working/side-hustle. It really ruined my mood because I expected some kind of monthly stipend or assistance for PhD students as is the case in some institutions. I feel really discouraged and confused. Doing the PhD in Germany would be amazing, but I don't think i can afford the monthly stipend required for survival. God dey. One love guys! |

ajeleseujn: Your bsc gpa is safe for admission. The minimum gpa on a German grading scale for admission is 2.5, and yours should be within the range of 2.2 - 2.3 which is good.
For your admission process, check for schools that have your intend program, send a mail to their international office desk or to the department directly, I am sure they will reply you and give you the necessary steps to follow.
Viel Glück Thanks brother... Will get to work immediately. Blessings on us all! |

Pls guys I need urgent advice. I am considering doing a PhD in Germany because i just learnt that it is tuition free. I finished with a 2.2 (3.37); please what are my chances? I intend on doing something in environmental sciences. I checked online, and I discovered that I need to have a potential supervisor before PhD admission can be given, but after checking the website of some schools, I found out that they don't display their staff profile, so I do not even know where to start from. Can PhD students currently in Germany kindly contact me. I would be very grateful. I Thanks all... |

Education › Re: 2018 PTDF Scholarship China/France/Germany: Shortlisted Applicants by TJ0987(f): 4:27pm On Apr 27, 2018 |
yakbauer: I got ur mail, but replying via email is kinda hard so I think it's best I put it up here for others to benefit based on my experience with d China/France/Germany application. - For PhD applicantion, no attention was paid to my SOP as with others that did theirs before me (mine was on Fri 13/4/18). - secondly, the panel that interviewed me consisted of a female prof of biological sciences, a Dr that was a DD in NOSDRA, a staff from FCC and another Dr who was a beneficiary of d scheme (meaning he got his PhD via ptdf scholarship), my research area was environmental sciences, but both science & Mgt were collapsed into one panel. - I was asked for some documents, not all though, only BSc, MSC, Awards and publications, that's all. - I was allowed to present my proposal verbally, after which questions were asked, most questions revolved around details of ur writeup, like method of sample collection, indicators, applications & viability of ur research, etc. LESSONS LEARNT - Know your research proposal very well, some questions are quite obvious and will come from there, they might just want to confirm you wrote it yourself. - the rule was the proposal shouldn't be more than 5 pages, although no penalty if it's more, but I advise u keep to d 5-7 pages, not just coz of d rules, but coz you'll be able to memorise every page and also more write up will def give d panel more questions to ask. - I was told by d prof that my ptdf award for MSC, will not be considered as an award, but they consider awards like best graduating student, any award in d office for outstanding performance, best project etc - I didn't have any publications so I just told them I didn't have any - I think everything from ur WAEC to grade of BSC & Masters, all have marks, also awards and publications will also have marks, ideally certifications should too and relevant work experience. - if u do not have any awards or publications you're still qualified but ur marks won't be up to those with qualifications. - selecting preferred centre of interview really doesn't have any effect, it's just for ease, unlike that of BEA that made ppl travel from one part of d country to d other. - finally, this thing is basically a competition with ppl from ur state, the best in my state might have just a BSC & 2.2, while the worst in another state might have a first class in BSC, distinction in Masters, with awards and publications. So it's relative. I was told by some sources that The interview itself carries only 20marks, (pls is hearsay and not certain). I hope this helps. All d best to all applicants, may God Bless our hustle. Thank you so much. I have learnt a thing or two from your write up. |

Luvantidote: Every tip u need is in the G/F/C thread. However, I'll share mine all d same. They were more interested in my academic awards and publications. The only real question the panelist asked was, "Why do u want a master's degree when you've achieved so much already?" He proceeded to ask, "Do u hv experience in ur choosen research area? What made you choose that particular area?" My interview was not up to 5mins. Ur awards are extremely necessary! Do well to take all of them with u. Publications are a plus too. Buh most importantly, let's make it to the interview stage of this particular one first, then we can share more tips Thank you for your time. |

BrightFuture48: YES! No Lagos on the list, Ibadan was choosen for SW zone. You choose the one you feel comfortable with among the list.
PTDF scholarship criteria give rooms for 2.2 with relevant work experience. Some schools do relax their stuff also based on that as well, if you have experience on the course you want to study. Though is good to look for school that with ACCEPT 2.2 to be on safer side.
Good luck! Thanks Bright Future! |

Please I noticed that there is no Lagos center. Or is it just me? Also, there is an issue bothering me my people. I finished with a 2.2, and most of the 15 listed schools, when I went to their websites, I realised they usually specify 2.1 or first class, so why is the scholarship asking for 2.2s to apply, when the schools are saying differently. Thank you all. |
