Politics › Re: Buhari, Osinbajo Slash Salary By 50% by tmanuelle(m): 10:05pm On Jul 10, 2015 |
nonslike: Only salary ? What of allowances ? Make others follow slash but after the slashing the money should be directed accordingly.
Just passing It will definitely affect the allowances too. If you watch closely how things are being done there, you will know that their allowances are being calculated as a multiple or a certain percentage (e.g. 200%, 300%) of the basic. Therefore, all such allowances by implication will be slashed by 50% now that the basic from which they are being calculated has been slashed. A good move I will say Make them nor just try come our side (Federal Civil Service) at all o. Its gonna be disastrous o. |
Culture › Re: Igbo Or Ibo? by tmanuelle(m): 11:36am On Jul 08, 2015 |
beneli: This is an interesting question that you ask!
While Abagworo has posted information that can be debated, I honestly think that the majority of informed Igbo people would be most inclined towards using ‘Igbo’ to describe the name of the people, the language spoken and the land inhabited . . . irrespective of what some of the 'erroneous' information out there say!
So in answer to your question the politically correct terms would be: Igbo person Igbo language Igbo land
'This statue is not of Yoruba origin, it is of 'Igbo' origin’ . . .
The use of ‘Ibo’ to describe ‘Igbo’ people or language is increasingly considered irreverent. Some educated Nigerians . . . Igbo speaking or not . . . even find the term very insulting since they are aware that its one of those patronising relics, spilling over from the centuries when the colonialists had gone about telling their subjects how they should call themselves!
But as we gradually shed ourselves of the 'odious' mentality of those years, most of us have come to agree that we are Igbo are not 'Ibo' -it doesn’t matter whether the Igbo person is from the Igbo-speaking areas of Rivers or Delta states, or the Igbo speaking states of Abia, Anambara, Ebonyi, Enugu or Imo . . . it is still Igbo! And that is how we wish to be called . . .
The few people that persist in using 'Ibo' are either being deliberately mischievous – as you may have observed, perusing the politics section of NL - or are just innocently, or in a few cases. . . i dare say, even. . . irredeemably, ignorant! I am from the West, but I like the way you have treated it. I can't remember the last time I used that word, Ibo... may be 5, 6 yrs |

Ivanspring: Why did he take her there in the first place? For window shopping? Go back and read, the young man is rich, he can afford it...after all he paid for it. But as a matter of principle, he doesn't expect her to pick such an expensive item on someone else' tab...its an opportunistic behaviour. What happens to her first picking much cheaper item(s) and allow the guy raise the stakes by himself if he feels like? ...something like "C'mon bae, that's way too cheap; why don't you go for this 250k Gucci, I think its lovely." Now let me help you, the young man is not searching for a girlfriend, he is looking for a wife material, which by implication must be virtuous, responsible and moderate in all things. Its only an opportunist that will behave in that manner. |

You may talk of the outdated architectural design, fine. But that was the first & the only there was here as of late 50s. 20pounds: I have been trying very hard to refrain from making any comment on Gen. Buhari's conduct since entering office but it seems the man and controversial decisions are siamese twins.
Everywhere in the world, the President's security is handled by the secret service, not by gun-trotting soldiers cos it is more civil, diplomatic and in line with international standards. It is only in third world banana republics that dictators who rose to power through the barrel of a gun, in a haze of fire and blood, parade soldiers to intimidate the citizenry and would-be coupists.
This man better appoint advisers ASAP before he commits more blunders. He is trapped in 1983. Go back and read...important notes however is that these military officers are specially trained for that specific purpose & of course, dressed in mufti. So I don't know how you came about "gun-trotting soldiers". That's for the report. And if the report is true, do not forget that it will be very unrealistic to have security personnels with rifles close to the President (even his ADC can not carry side arm) or members of his family. They will be in mufti with concealed small weapons & may be dressed in suits just like the DSS guys. They won't be dressed like Nigeria is at war as you have speculated, that I am so sure about, but let's just wait & see how it turns out in days ahead, say two weeks from now. And again, go back & read. |

Blade21: becos he's a Man womn are knw to talk anyhow @ times ...and men are known to be very stupid anyhow @ times So because she's a woman, she now has the license to disrespect and hit her husband any how Come of it, all these living in the novels or Nollywood won't help you if you really believe you deserve a happy marriage. Those are fictions or what people think should obtain in their own mind or singular opinion. Just live life in the normal & acceptable way as a virtuous woman rather than having some fantasies about how it happened in one movie scene or how someone said it should always be. Look into yourselves first, evaluate yourselves & do not forget the God aspect. With prayers, He is capable of taking care of any marriage situation. Women, love your husbands & respect them, do unto them ONLY what you know you will gladly accept if done to you without any form of resentment. Its only an irrational man who will not know how to properly reciprocate these good virtues. Shalom |

barcanista: What he is saying is that the priority should be high on boko terrorists. The creek boys are criminals no doubt but not terrorists. We have terrorists in the North East that the government and the Army are to give more priority. And why on earth do you think the Command HQ has been moved to the North East? Why do you think efforts are being made to reconstitute & re-invigorate the MNJTF? What happened to simultaneous/concurrent military operations both in the NE & in the SS so far the military is not complaining about shortage of equipment? Either you are a terrorist or a pirate or a militant, none of these categories is good for National Security & so must b dealt with decisively. That makes the difference between a retired Army General and an ordinary civilian turned politician being at the helms of affair in a country. And that's what I call DECISIVENESS. Do you think Boko Haram would have gone this far if it had been given the kind of attention it needed five years ago? Do you know how long it took the previous administration to declare a (partial) State of Emergency in the affected states? So piracy & militancy should be left unattended to such that we will now have another round of serious National Security issues to deal with in another 2 years may be after Boko Haram must have been totally subdued? Una nor dey taya? You people should only make comments when there is something to comment about & then criticise constructively when there is the need. God bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria |

ocelot2006: THANK YOU!! Abeg teach some of these people here. Well one point he didn't get right in his text is that the DSS cannot do what the CIA does...that responsibility is on the NIA. The NIA does what CIA does (external intelligence gathering), while DSS does what the FBI does (domestic intelligence and security). However he is very correct on the role of the DSS carrying out the responsibilities of both the FBI & the USSS at the same time, talking about intelligence, internal security and the protection of VIPs. |
Politics › Re: Military To Take Over Aso Rock’s Strike Force by tmanuelle(m): 9:56am On Jun 17, 2015 |
Bluffly: He should thread with care. In the USA, FBI does that and not the military, likewise other well meaning developed countries. Is he afraid. If he can't make all arms of the Nigerian security outfit trustable, then he has no business being the president. If he is not feeling safe with the curent state of DSS, he should overhaul it rather than spitting on their face. Sir, truly, the FBI does internal security job in the US, but they are not in charge of the president's protection. That role belongs to the USSS. I agree with you though on the overhauling of the DSS, so that they can do their job effectively because its their constitutional role rather than drafting another Army unit (Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps) for the protection of the president. That makes the Guards Brigade useless already. Like a brother said earlier, let's not encourage what IBB did to the Nigerian Airforce due to the fallout from the Vasta's Conspiracy to the DSS because of some funny reasons. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. |

butanep: Geology/ Geophysic is a hot cake now in Nigeria especially in the petroleum sector. The most important thing about the course(s) is its diversification. With the increasing demand of oil and the exploration of new oil wells, search of underground water in complex terrain, building of dams and bridges, just to mention a few, geology/ geophysics will still remain relevant even till the next century.
Graduate with a good result in the field will always smile to the bank when employed in any of the oil sector or construction firm or hydrological ministries/firms.
They are only few universities in Nigeria that can boast of good geology department with sound theoretical, practical and field knowledge.
Here are list of universities that give the best in geology and can also boast of sound and competent geologist both home and abroad.
1 Obafemi Awolowo University ( OAU)
2 University OF Ibadan
3 University OF Jos (UNIJOS)
4 University OF Benin ( UNIBEN)
5 University Of Nigeria Nsuka
6 University Of Maidiguri ( UNIMAD)
7 Federal University Of Technology Akure (FUTA)
8 Federal University Of Technology Owerri (FUTO)
9 Federal University Of Technology Mina.
10 University Of Portharcort ( UNIPORT)
11 University Of Ilorin ( UNIlORIN)
12 Delta State University Abraka
13 University Of Calabar. (UNICAL)
14 Federal University Of petroleum Resources (FUPRE )
15 Ajayi Crowther university Oyo.
So if you intend to study geology or geophysic, you need to consider any of the listed university. They are the best in the field of Geoscience.
Cc lalasticlala FUTA shouldn't have been on that list for these two courses. Although FUTA products in these two departments cannot be matched in the southwestern Nigeria o, but talking of having to deal with saddists & those bunch of i.diots for five years... |

baybeeboi: my Brother, believe me, in situations like that you won't be going home with your wife alone....definitely, her younger sister or brother's school fees will be the pride price you pay. You might train your wive's sister or you renovate her fathers hauz. One is certain. That's not correct sir. I am from Ondo State, my two elder sisters got married in a similar pattern, not for any favour from their spouses. The only difference is that the bride price will be included on the list at first and then will be returned to the groom on presentation during the ceremony..."We are not selling out daughter, take back the money, use it for her upkeep & that of your unborn children as we pray that God Almighty will multiply the money for you, Amen". My youngest sister was already in 500L as at that time & she is the youngest in the family, my father's house needed no renovation, even though we are not rich...so no favour is expected from anybody. |
