I read a case study about an evolution in jaji, for lt.to lt.cdr and equivalent course across the armed forces.....the scenario was equatorial Guinea, been used to undermine the federal republic of Nigeria, with France been the puppet master.... this was probably a late 80s course work, and core to the solutions I read was mig 21, with camera going for recon and other variables , and trust me, you will see brains at work and contingency plans and so on......years later, i keep wondering if the way we keep having ambush and other issues in the north east and there seems not to be a counter, are we deteriorating as a fighting force or getting better. The other time it was a Ghanaian lt.col talking about about altimeter Bombs used during Liberia war, used by Nigerian jet.. that I doubt are used now.....I'm a fighting man, and paid my dues....but are we improving or depreciating I'm asking this because I'm a navy guy, and don't know what the land and air forces have in their arsenal. |

Faithful007: the name "armed bandits" is beginning to look like an understatement for these people. Hope we will not see a northern Nigeria administered by factions in the future? Couple of years ago, I was with this AFSF guy, he had just come back from the N.E and he was fighting these bandits in Kaduna, and he told me point blank, these bandits are boko haram, but the government is trying to cover it up, so as not to spread fear . |

GabrielYulaw: Engines kept warm or engines kept on? I can understand pilots on alert kitting up, jumping in their planes and turning on the engine in preparation for being asked within a few minutes to straff the enemy when there's a battle going on somewhere. But that is usually not how alerts are done.
If I remember correctly, the pilot on alert sits in the cockpit with an external power source running the air conditioning and system units, but with the engines kept OFF. I haven't ever heard of pilots on alert starting engines and keeping them on just cos a situation might develop somewhere, mainly cos that goes through fuel like mad.
But then the fact that I haven't heard about it does not mean it doesn't happen, but common sense dictates otherwise. Engine kept warm isn't the same thing as engine kept running....two different things. |

Vikkie14: Don't misinterpret Odunayaw post. It seems you didn't grasp what he is implying GabrielYulaw.
He wasn't literally saying they do that, he was only being metaphorical, implying that they can do that if it's a necessity. In essence, his school of thought is drawn along the line that, those two countries had more than enough resource (crafts, fuel, personnel, finance, clout, political will, etc) to undertake such if NECESSITY demands.
The message he is passing across is that, those two countries can respond to distress fast enough to avert/minimise avoidable damages/destructions on own troops and equipments. Hopefully you understand this.
When in doubt because a poster's comment is ambiguous, always try to examine outside the "first" thing that came to your mind on such issue.
Over and Out. USA pilots have been on alert couple of times, that the engines have been kept warm and the pilots seating in the aircraft waiting for a call....this has been done for virtually all their classes of pillots, and the troops fully kitted and waiting for their call for quick reaction to incidents....while I wont encourage pilots sitting in aircrafts in the blazing and dangerous heat of the north east, I would encourage pilots fully kitted and waiting in an air conditioned room, with briefing and updates given, enroute to the target location. |

SamuelAnyawu: I used a Gajiram attack where Soldiers fought over an hour and 30 minutes before withdrawing. Gajiram is 50Km away from Maiduguri on Monguno-Maiduguri road. Exactly the NAF should improve as it saves lives. the army should build fortifications, get equipments and build expertise, that they can overwhelm or deter a force, 3 times it's size in any location, it's not everytime air force would be available. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Tobiloba2407: 10:50am On Jun 19, 2020 |
SamuelAnyawu: The hardwares were stationed at Charlie One (The entrance to Monguno through Maiduguri) and Charlie Six (Entrance to Monguno through Marte).
After the last attack in January this year the Military increased more hardwares at these entrances. The first laxity of the Military was their inability to detect the intruding BH guys. The Military guarding the entrances were taken by surprise. The Soldiers at the entrance abandoned their position after BH started shooting sporadically at the entrance. Some Soldiers were killed at both entrance, even some soldiers trying to run back to the barracks mistakenly ran into the BH guys.
The barracks is more than a Kilometer away from that entrance. The 1:00 minute section of that video was 500meters to the barracks.
The Army needs to start hunting these guys Around lake the neighbouring LGAs surrounding Monguno town. If these guys can pull such a stunt for 2hours during the day I don't know what will happen if this attack was during their 5:30 pm attack time.
The Army needs to start a massive operation and take the war to them. I am basically tired how we always sit duck and await their attacks. Even Repelling such attacks now has become a great positive news for the Red necks/Federal without any one of them thinking why don't we take the attacks to them. If not for that Video the Military never disclosed we lost such hardwares.
We should take this war to their doorsteps!!!!!!! Sam thanks for the update...and if those vehicles are serviceable, the most senior personnel on duty at that location should face a B.O.I....at the same time, I think those vehicles have the wrong equipments to stop or slow down a bht, fast advance....a rapid fire 30 mm, would have been the best equipment. I swear the waiting down to be attacked is really annoying, I hope the new equipments were bought with the mindset that they would be more mechanically efficient, so they would spearhead the hunt of boko haram. |

SamuelAnyawu: That Jet was the Major Impact. No member ISWAP died from a military bullet. The guys were marching close to the barracks before the jet showed up. I even heard their gun trucks we're shooting at the Jets. How did bht, get so deep into a super camp? That they got into where amoured fighting vehicles are parked, it doesn't matter if serviceable or not, it was inside N.A location, I'm beginning to think, if not for that jet, the base was already retreating, without putting up much of a fight. Unless they were drawing them into a kill zone. |

demolition: DAMN Adeosun just killed this guy I hope you guys understand most times, these court martial boards are usually not the final decision, there is usually another board that determines looks at the judgement and usually, the sentencing is reduced and these judgements don't usually hold weight till the chief of army staff signs it....so if the army chief doesn't sign in 4 years, baba would still be collecting salary and having his benefits, unless he gets a retirement letter. I see this dismissal changed to retirement and demotion to brigadier general. |

bidexiii: The windshield armour on the ISWAP up-armoured SVBIED captured by NA near Monguno on June 13th looked interesting, and is actually an armour section with two hatches transplanted from a seized Swiss-made Mowag Piranha 6x6 AFV. ISWAP captured at least 1 of these in Baga, Dec 2018 I'm interested in knowing how this vehicle was stopped....do you have more pictures of it? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Tobiloba2407: 11:02am On Jun 15, 2020 |
SamuelAnyawu: Yeaaa sometimes they do this to prove a point. Sometimes the Amir wants to prove to other Amirs that he is a brute Force to be recognised on the hierarchy.
There is definitely no how they could take over Monguno with that number of fighters and hardwares. ISWAP can never overun Monguno except they will assemble all ISWAP in the lake Chad basin for a full scale war. 12 Guntrucks cannot overun Monguno. Monguno got not less than 2000 soldiers in a well protected Military barracks not some abandoned school or LGA Secretariat some locations use as FOB.
The Airforce always responds fast to Monguno from what I have observed staying there. Baba if ISWAP overuns Monguno which will never happen just consider Lake Chad Basin is finished. Every Civilian in Northern Borno will run away.
Tho there is one FOB ISWAP are always scared of attacking as they have never overun it. Be like Soldiers bury Rams for that FOB. Even when they took over Baga town and destabilized Kukawa towns they tried almost everyday to take over that FOB, But those soldiers fought gallantly daily.
Kekeno . They never took over konduga, I hope I got the spelling right |

I want to ask a critical question no body as asked, why did BHT attack during the day? Usually they attack at night and would have had better chances in they came around 6pm.
1 ) could it be a new and inexperienced leader, that believes too put in brute force and not really on brain power? Willing to sacrifice even the live of his men, and civilians?
2)is there certain intelligence bht have that pushed them to attack at that time, like maybe they know they wont be able to hold the base for long, so they decided to start the attack early, knowing it would be a long drawn battle, and if they had success , loot the base under the cover of night and disappear.
3) just plain incompetence by the bht top echelon or under estimation of Nigeria troops to stay and fight, like the Niger usually do. |

Martel is under attack according to @adesogan on Twitter..... I wonder why we don't use proximity fuse on our bombs....I read a book titled "ecomog" the author was a ghanian lt.col, and he was talking about how the rebels used to run to climb trees to try to escape Nigerian alpha jets bombs, and he mentioned that this was futile, as the Nigerian bombs were fitted with proximity fuses and exploded in the hair. Have we now lost this capability, or we choose not to use it, especially in raining season. |

But really the military top brass, handling this war, need to tell their stories, in such a way, that the stories/words...correspond with pictures, we aren't averse to seeing destroyed and dead pictures.....bht, do much better PR, they pay attention to details and their propaganda always leaves an effect, but our military makes you ask more questions and guess, because most times the storyline doesn't go with pictures. |

youghs: lol..bro u just deploy men without guntruck no fire support..except you give the ATGM. This strategy can only be successful with bandits in NW not against BH.. Though we would succeed but casualties on our side would be very high Read and understand, not just to comment, I said heavily armed and protected by mi25/45..... surely an automatic grenade luncher, has the range and firepower to destroy a heavy machine gun truck from a distance, a sniper can take out the gunner, the armed helicopters can destroy this vehicles too.....the work of this force, is not to engage and win the battle....the work is to apply pressure at a flank and PUSH, the bht into a kill zone left for artillery and mortars to finish off.... and this is a,secondary force introduced , not the primary force engaged by bht. |

Whyem15: If the Nigerian military is serious about ending this insurgency, they have to be actively and constantly developing new tactics, counter tactics to counter the terrorists tactics and then counter tactics to counter the terrorists counter to their own tactics. We have to be miles ahead of them. Take for example, the idea of the super camps, it has been effective in making sure that these terrorists don't capture cities and towns but the terrorists have changed their objectives to counter that strategy, they avoid those super camps, attack wherever they want and disappear before troops can be deployed from the super camps. They've been using this to get more revenues that they will use in recruiting and purchasing new weapons. The tactics of the super camp has been countered and a new tactic has to be developed to make sure that the terrorists don't achieve their current objectives (getting funds to rearm and restrentghen) If we are not careful, in few months time they will be attacking with anti-tanks and manpads. These weapons are for sale around us. Recently watched a video where a journalist interviewed a young Libyan selling weapons at his house, when asked who he sells this weapons to, he said to people who wants to defend their families from terror attacks yet this guy had rpgs and motar rounds for sale! Arms trade is one of the most popular businesses in Libya right now. What we need is adequate air mobility and assets to protect this air mobility....imagine bht attacking a location.... 2 waves of 10 mi17 helicopters can easily drop heavily armed men of about 300 in 15 minutes by their flanks at letsp says 1km distance from the action and the men advance on foot to the objective....with mi25/35 protecting the deployment, immediately they troops are deployed the mi17, leaves the localtion...and their role shifts to close air support....with all these variables on ground, they can push bht to preplanned kill zone....whereby artillery can finish them off. I always say it, till we develop a massive heliborne means of moving troops, we will still be on a stalemate with this very fluid terrorist, unless, we can box them in a kill zone, when they come out in mass to attack . We will still be facing this same issues. Mind you, aircrafts dont provide CAS,when artillery or mortars are firing, they clear the area to avoid getting hit or caught up in an explosion or shrapnel. |
