Toju200: yeah... that was my thought.. I thought she'll be stripped off her missile pods About 4 years ago, officer undergoing training were told aradu's weapon systems were still functioning and it could attack , but she wasn't sea worthy. Truthfully I don't think dockyard can repair her, they need to sign a contract with the German company that built her or better still buy a more modern ship. Even the fast attack ships can't go to sea, after spending years in dockyard, even after Greek engineers were called and destroyed the ship more and swapping brass for less durable materials. Most of those ships just exist to create office for manpower and means to justify money collected. |

LTGEN: Curious to know what type of repairs were done My educated guess is that the Engines are still in good shape and that it will be used as a training ship anybody has any information ? Aradu's problem has always been the engine and I think the hull becoming weak....I think some weapons systems are still working. |

komekn: It is a BTR there are a number of variants some Russian and Ukrainian made.
I can't see the turret and only the side view, however making an informed guess from the mid engine positioning, my conclusion is that it's the Ukrainian BTR4.
It is a very good APC almost close to an IFV if you have the PARUS RWS which will give you night and day precision weapon targeting in ranges of excess of 4000m.
It has a 30mm 3TM-1 automatic gun, 40mm automatic grenade launcher, 7.62mm mg and the Barrier ATGM.
Nigeria did not buy them in enough numbers to make any kind of impact not more than 10. And the last time l saw one in the NA they had cannibalized it by putting a HMG on top of it in the most rudimentary way rendering the RWS inoperative. The army refused to buy 30mm rounds for the gun, claiming it's too expensive, and proceeded to beg the air force for 30mm rounds, the air force turned them down, that's why they don't use the RWS |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Tobiloba2407: 6:33pm On Jul 21, 2020 |
Odunayaw: Not the one. No strength to run through my library. So, if it were just Navy personnel, where did all the skills go after the tour with AFSF?
Did AFSF have a separate selection? AFSF has seperate selection, some people even lobbied for it, as it was foreign course, they wanted the foreign currency attached, I know of a rating complaining to me, that he passed the physical and he was selected and his name was later removed.....I'm sure later on, after the guy seeing KIAs he would thank who removed his name. I know some where withdrawn from the north east, and sent to Kaduna to fight bandits couple of years ago. Recently I have been too busy, so I haven't really been interacting with people in that line, as I'm enjoying my own life now, God be with the men at the edge of the line |

GeneralFarouq: Is AFSF not real special forces? And are they not trained to reasonable standards. These guys have been sent to train with some of the best in the world And note some SBS personnel are being drafted to this Special forces. In my opinion, the only thing SBS has more than AFSF is age and popularity. AFSF were trained to a higher degree than army special forces....bht avoided contact with SBS and AFSF most times ....Oga SBS can never be drafted into AFSF , SBS works in small teams, this teams can come together and work as a bigger team. Mind you, I have never criticized AFSF . With the training and comms gear and equipment AFSF had, if the standard was improved, or maintained we won't be where we are now |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Tobiloba2407: 4:14pm On Jul 21, 2020 |
Mugiwaraluffy: That's it. I have a friend that was in AFSF, active around 2014-2016 (not exactly sure of the year) or so before he was rotated. They were effective to an extent on those guys. Army have a sniper regiment or so and I've not really heard their exploits in this war so far. Snipers are very deadly and can change the tide of an attack if used effectively. This ambushes can be reduced to an extent before we get drones. Before the advent of drones, militaries have been in existence and found ways to avoid ambush. Just like Komekn said some days ago even though I don't completely agree with all his ideas, when ure in a war, expect everything possible and impossible, every single move that can be used against you, every option and how it can be carried out effectively against you, then find a way to eliminate all possible threats, have contingency plans in case shit goes south. Getting ambushed all the time is almost the same as not preparing for the attack before hand. Even though your plan would fail, at least try it out, let's try something new. Only then can we know our strength and weakness. I believe our Generals are smart and know what they ought to do. Let's hope they'll prove to be effective in making the right decisions to end this war. Have you heard the banter between military men" you dey operational base, nah you get money you just tear house , you just buy car".....the biggest operational base in Nigeria right now, is from the north central to the extreme northern zones. Go figure out why this war hasn't ended.... |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Tobiloba2407: 3:36pm On Jul 21, 2020 |
Mugiwaraluffy: I proposed an idea recently about how we can use special ops to reduce those boko boys from having free movement. Since Airfoce have a nonchalant attitude towards responding to distress call at time of need, I would suggest we use armed forces special force (AFSF) if they're still in commission to carry out such attacks. Airfoce can dedicate 2 asset (maybe one MiG with an alpha jet or a helicopter) on standby specifically for distress calls. This would change the narrative we're facing now. I think the mistake we're making in this war is that our forces are operating with rigid principles against enemies that are fluid. This war is dynamic and we should learn to adapt quickly. Super camps have helped to reduce attacks on outpost but indirectly increased the rate of ambush. These terrorists have seen that loophole and are exploiting it. I don't know if you noticed but AFSF have been rotated out of the NE.... one of the few effective ways of securing our routes that hasn't been utilized is the use of snipers and real special forces in the standard of early SBS , to monitor routes that troops are passing. Left to me the army special forces are rush jobs that fall below standard. |

ugo4u: One of the mistake Nigerian military and in extension FG did was not buying up the stash of weapons in Post Ghadafi's Libya. The NIA, NSA should have played an active role in this, we would have killed 2 or more birds with one stone i.e getting sophisticated weapons at giveaway prices & to a reasonable extent controlled the illegal proliferation of arms in the west African sub-region, but we let that golden opportunity pass us. The then gov't of the day together with the service Chiefs were more interested in stashing their soakaways and Geepee tanks with hard currencies, the status quo still remains the same. We are always reactive, being proactive is not our thing. Everyone leverages on any opportunity they get to enrich themselves, no sense of Patriotism whatsoever. I understand the need for this , but how much equipment were we going to buy in both quantity to affect the proliferation and at what price; can we afford it. Are we going to be going around buying ak 47s or RPGs launchers, that we have in abundance or hmg that we can't finish emptying the stocks ? Or the heavier more technical weapons that we ourselves need technical expertise to keep worthy and would be totally useless?. I'm not saying your point is useless, but bailing water from an ocean, is it the same as draining the ocean? I think what would have been a little more effective if there was the political will, rather than buying the small arms was setting up off UN missions, African mission and regional missions, with the Express mandate of tracking and siezing weapons. Any way Libya has a major war at hand now, they would be depleting their stock of weapon very fast, and BHT would keep getting its weapons from lake Chad military, till we find an effective means to check them. |

Over 50 fighters are known to have surrendered to Cameroonian forces over the past two weeks. A development which prompts one to ask what may be happening in the jihadists' camp? This guy maintains trigger discipline, something lacking in most NPF personnels. |
