Always the double standard...
The judgement is always applied according to the race of a person.
If you are white you shall live else ...

White people never integrate anywhere in the world. They would go different places to make changes. Whereas minorities are even forced to accept and view things like homosexuality, same-sex marriage or transgender as common way of life. Those are things our ancestors knew nothing about.

By the way, as a Canadian citizen I respect gays people even though I dont agree with homosexuality. The Canadian culture is all about dealing with mutual respect even when we don't agree on something.
Just wondering, what are the reason (s) why you don't agree with homosexuality?

Mental issues and suicidal tendency is something that can happen to anyone not matter strong they think you are. It can happen to your brother, your sister, your parents, your future children etc. Both Allah and Jesus will not save you when it comes if you do not take some of the suggestions that some individuals have listed here such as seeking help from loved ones, attending social gathering and spending meaningful time with loved ones who can resurrect the sense of love and belonging in such hard times.

Some of the comments people post here on certain issues are very awful and eye-sore. Just imagine someone who has depression or people outside Nigeria going through these comments here. People saying stuff like burn in hell and some religious bullshit that people spit out here. It sends a very primitive and low-mentality image on the Nigerian populace.

My WARNING is going particularly to young people. Depression is real and it will be worse on us young people because of the hardship in Nigeria. Alot of young people in Nigeria, even graduates, have no foreseeable hope for their future. Some have them been forced to put hands in untold things due to hardship. With the social media on the hype, you are also likely to get hopeless about life because of the effect it has on your self-esteem. BE WISE!! STOP HELPING ALL THIS OLD GENERATION FROM STIGMATIZING DEPRESSION BECAUSE IF YOU OR YOUR FRIEND GET DEPRESSED, it will be difficult for you or your friend to get the help they need due to stigmatization.

We have been praying to God and Allah which were brought to us by British colonizers and Arab Crusaders since time immemorial and yet those God allowed Africa to be colonized,Yet these Gods allows all the bad things happening to Nigeria Boko Haram, Corruption, Road accidents, poverty, baby factory, etc. continue to happen today. It is time to try other things. It's time to open our eyes. Do more research and educate ourselves.

Ignorance will not save us. Look after and love thy relations and neighbours!!. Challenge every assumptions. Alot of them are fallacy!!

Oshey!! grin grin Ti ba gbo say those condiments have any effect for my body. I was born strong oo. But honestly some of these issues are just social constructs. we need to unpack them. Na people of our generation and the next go hear am cuz things are changing and we need to evolve with time, otherwise we will be left behind.

Okay let's say I agree with you that every organisation, community, group or gathering must have a head.
Let's say I agree with you that a marriage cannot function without a clear head in charge.

Can you explain to me - logically - why that head must be the man?
Using your analogy, if in a marriage, the woman is more 'qualified' will you accept her as the head of the family? Since the only basis of your argument is that there must be a head.
grin
Lol! This is a very good question that alot of men don't think through. Personally, I think I will be comfortable with a woman being in charge, especially if she is more capable than me. As long as love and harmony reigns.

exactly.

many of the arguements are just based on confirmation bias.

Reality hasnt struck on some of them, the embassies wont give every one visas, many of them will stay and die in Nigeria, the western world are tighten their immigration requirements, it shows that in the next 5-10 years it will be very difficult for many Nigerians to immigrate.

now is the time for them to start building their country.
No truer words has been said !!!

Actions have consequences

That's the best way to raise a kid.....

From the beginning, every time! a child does wrong, make it clear that he has done wrong (reprimand) etc and let them face the consequences of their actions

That way, the child will better

I don't rule out flogging completely tho, as long as it is at a young age, and its done in a humane and not animalistic way.

To me, flogging should be for SERIOUS OFFENCES

but flogging day and night, all the time, for whatever is not the best
he! he! Thanks for the suggestion cheesy cheesy

I read his comment and I was laughing hard to myself

Africa don cast in that regard too

What you think you are 'saving" your child from in the west is abundant in Nigeria

Who would have thought 20 years ago that many Nigerians IN Nigeria will come out as homosexual and a cross dresser

Today, it's rampant

as for drug abuse, it's equally rampant (worse in the north tho)

The wild life common amongst youths in the west is same in Nigeria

So how do you think a child raised in Nigeria will automatically be better off JUST because he/she was raised in Nigeria cheesy

Wherever you are, install proper values and manners and leave the rest...

Flogging and brutality is not a sign of prpoee upbringing, especially if the youth still is a degenerate
great points there! I haven't been in Nigeria lately, so you definitely know better as to how things are changing. However, it is also important to look into some of the points raised by individuals abroad too, cuz they know how it feels here too.
I followed up the news with drug abuse in Nigeria. Correct me if I am wrong but it was Codein abuse with one of the cough medicine. When I complain of drugs here I mean cocain, Lysergic acid diethylamide, mushroom, edibles. etc.. Up to you to weigh which is more dangerous. Flogging and bruatality is not a sign of proper upbringing. I agree. Just for learning sake, what other suggestion would you recommend for proper upbringing?
For homosexuality and cross dressing, Its because the Nigerian society does not tolerate such they hide in shame for something that is not their fault to begin. I think its better for those individuals to migrate to other places where they are accepted, if they can.

You just jumped to a completely different topic which got nothing to do with your previous post.

If you like raise your child in a church a bad child will be a bad child, days are gone when moral standard is higher in Africa, infact kids are more likely to be abused or raped in Africa with little or nothing to be done about it than in the west.
Lol! Nice! can you explain what you mean by the jumping to different topic?

Beautyaddy:
It is very obvious toboy didn't know the meaning of that word "modern day slavery"

To not go far with giving out countless examples of it happening presently in Nigeria...is ASUU still on strike? Yes, that's a typical example of "modern day slavery."
Hey Addy, Perhaps the concept of "Modern day slavery" has changed meaning in the Nigerian context. However, it actually comes from the fact that indigenous groups, mostly Africans were sold and used as slaves in the West during the transatlantic slave trade. Whereas this physical forms of slavery no longer exist today, the West still find ways to dominate and neo-colonise less powerful nations, hence the term "modern day slavery".
It appears ASUU strike is a very big issue right now due to unfair compensation between ASUU and the government. Hopefully, they call it off during the new year. However, I am lost as to how it qualifies in the "slave- slave master" context?
TravelRe: Why Do Nigerians Think That They Can Only Make It Abroad? by toboy:
justwise:
[/b]

Its not modern day slavery because you and your kids are benefiting from the system, you enjoy the social amenities, security, good education and health care. You are basically using what you paid for which is not the same in Nigeria.

If you don't migrate to those countries they will still fund those sectors with your contribution.
Hey Justewise, First time I am ever getting a direct quote from you. Such an honour!

It depends on the angle you see it from. Alot of immigrants are realising how difficult it is to raise children in the West. First, your generation will loose a greater part of their African identity and some parents do regret raising their children in the West. Suffice to say that raising your children here, they risk being white-washed and loosing important virtues such as family, respect for elders, community etc. which are very important to their core-identity and mental health. Secondly, a lot of parents are now contemplating if it is worth it to raise their children in an environment where they have the tendency and fear of being racialised right from childhood till their entire life. Whereas a person raised in Nigeria is sheltered away from racism or police brutality. One of the Nigerian family I met here suggest raising kids in Singapore. An environment where they can get good education and be sheltered away from racism and drugs.

In terms of good education and health care you can definitely get them in Nigeria. There are international standard school systems in Nigeria depending on your socio-economic status. Some of the high school educational system in Nigeria pay higher tuition fees than a Canadian university, annually. You are right in terms of security, as I mentioned earlier Nigeria has a big security problem than it seems.

The Western system is built based on "extractive principle". Their system will suck 80% from you, then give you 20%. It is important to consider and weigh all options carefully. Take US., for instance, only 10% of the elites in that country owns 77% of the country's wealth. This is
a striking inequality that is worse off than Nigeria.

Like wise Bosstrevor. The appreciation is mutual smiley
TravelRe: Why Do Nigerians Think That They Can Only Make It Abroad? by toboy:
Thank you so much thebosstrevor for starting this tread. As final a year student studying abroad who is contemplating between working overseas or coming back to Nigeria, I learned alot from people's comments.

I think a lot of reaction from people miss the point the OP raises which is "ONLY MAKE IT ABROAD". Basically, I believe people can make it both in Nigeria and Overseas. However, any migrant needs to weigh their skills, competences, and savings accordingly before migrating, otherwise, the individual might end up taking meager jobs overseas that are less in value that what they had in Nigeria.

On the other hand, the individuals who mentioned about the better quality of live overseas is definitely right. I have been to several countries in North America and Europe and can attest that the quality of life there is better than Nigeria. I dont want to start ranting about the many social problems in Nigeria but the fact that whenever you are in Nigeria and you fear for your security- from road accidents, armed robbery, kidnapping, religious crisis, police harrasement, Boko Haram, depending on where you live. These issues chase people away from Nigeria. And this could also be a reason why politicians send their kids and family away too.

Big Picture:
Opportunities exist in both in Nigeria and abroad but you must work hard to get it, be it abroad or in Nigeria

For the individuals that complains about blaming the West for Nigeria's problem. Certainly, the West is definitely a major part of the problem that a lot of African Nation are facing, including corruption. The Nigerian politicians who embezzle Nigerian funds use the West as safe havens where they buy properties, send their kids and families, and for tax evasions. If the West is resolved to help African nation fight corruption, then, they might as well stop the money laundering coming into their economy.

Just to be clear, anyone living and working abroad, legally, is paying income taxes. By this, we immigrants alongside citizens of those country generate tremendous amount of revenue and skills for their government. Their government use this resource to better their countries, support their industries, invest overseas, and subsidise some sector of their economy. This goes to show that as long as we keep migrating and investing overseas we keep contributing to building their economy for them. It's called putting yourself and your children to modern day slavery.

Did anybody notice, clothes she wore in the two pictures aren't the same. Meaning after given birthday to a dead baby, she freshened up and still carried the dead baby to pose for pictures.

I don't get it.
In the first picture she is still wearing the hospital's scrub. Then, in the second pic, she is in her personal clothes. Is this all your wicked heart could come up with for a lady who lost a baby and whose husband is no longer around? You should be ashamed of yourself. Also, you're not even that smart.

Christianity EtcRe: Why Don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses Celebrate Christmas? by toboy: 3:40pm On Dec 25, 2016
While I believe that there exist God, the almighty. No ones argues Jesus was born on Christmas And no one can also really prove that the Bible was written by inspiration of holy spirit or by those who wish to use it to conquer other people.
It so narrow-minded for certain people not to understand that there are so many different ways people worship God. The white man brought Christianity to our forefathers and condemned all our traditional practices and belief system. They labeled us pagan or heathens unless we convert to their supreme ideologies and religion. They also enslaved your forefathers justifying this from the same Bible as well cuz they labelled the black nations as cursed descendants of Ham's tribe.
It so shameful that after these years, so many group still use the same ideology and Bible to segregate or judge their fellow brothers and sister.
For Christians and non-Christians around the world, Christmas means different things to them- A time to unite with family, a time to remember the less privilege, a time to REMEMBER the birth of Jesus, a time to rest and plan for the future year etc.
You should never condemn other people's belief systems cuz non is perfect. Holy books are meant to guide life's journey and not to dictate life journey.
