When travelling from Nigeria to Amsterdam to Minneapolis to Canada is a transit visa needed
Amsterdam is a Schengen country but I don't know about Minneapolis
Thank you in advance
you will need a valid visa in order to pass through the US. You may need to change your flight . There is usually flight from Amsterdam to Canada. You don't need a transit visa to pass through Schengen area.

You have really been through a lot OP. It hasn't truly easy. A few comments, please this is no way me being judgemental but I think your story is missing an important piece which is a deeper reflection on what you could have done better or the lesson from these experience to be a better business person next time. Unfortunately if this is not addressed, the same history will keep repeating itself. From your story, I have seen a lot mistakes you kept repeating such as poor planning and little to no risk management. If some of those are not addressed, your next business might suffer the same fate.

Hello guys,

I know this isn't LinkedIn but I thought its worth a shot.

I'm studying Software development at Lambton College, Toronto. I'm going into my final semester and due to start co-op (Internship) in January as a requirement for my program.

Its proving to be more difficult than I thought to find placement. Even though January seems far away, I'm getting anxious because if I'm unable to get a placement, I would have to enroll in another semester and pay its fees, for which I have not budgeted.

If anyone here has any leads, or can connect me, or refer me, or employ me, it would be really helpful.
Also, I dont have to be in Toronto, so if there are opportunities elsewhere, I'm open to that too.

You can reach out to me privately, or reply to this post or ask for my contact information.

I hope my helper gets to see this.
how long would the coop be for?
Feel, free to connect with me. My colleagues usually take interns every now and then. I could recommend if it's a good fit

It's like you haven't been observing this travel section lately. Some anti abroad people push some assertions just to achieve one thing and that is to begin arguments about Nigeria is better than abroad bullshit. They no longer come direct cos people will jump and pass, they now make it look like they are asking, talking or inquiring about something genuine but the end game is to start an argument to push their narrative.

The issue of boredom is as clear as daylight for any serious person. A non yoruba person who has lived in Lagos all his life and suddenly finds himself living in Ogbomosho or any non multicultural towns will certainly be bored. A non igbo person who suddenly gets to live in Nsukka will definitely be bored there. Even at that, people with an outgoing type of personality still try to make it happen for themselves.
Are we now going to make it an issue and say Nigeria is boring?
I'm not saying the person that talked about boredom is in that category, I'm giving you an example of why the reaction is what it is.
Hey cheesy Why is Nsukka boring to non-Igbo person?

Bright2:
[Now understood, your case is different from what we are looking into here like I stated earlier, unless the landlord did not follow the right procedures and in your own case, the landlord didn't.quote author=AFONJACOW post=99746892] ok this is what happened and why and how I lived in 3 storey building all alone for 2yrs without paying a dime, I lived on the 2nd floor and the double shop same building I used for my boutique , the former owner died and disputed sons sold it while our rents still up to 6months, the new owner didn't consult us to know if we are still interested to live there, he brought his quit notice, the tenants out of fear started panicking some vacate while I said I must finish my rent then he can give me extra 3 months to look for another place since he wanted to renovate it, the former landlord advised him to remove the front gate and some of the zinc , he did as they advised him , he did this while I was away in far away China for business, I got a call from my salesgirl that buglers came and entered my shop from the back because he removed the entrance door, the case was in the court with he served notice and I counter it , we were going to court once a month and my lawyer was my paddy me back in the days nah 042 , he assigned one of his hot headed Junior lawyer in his chamber to handle my case, my paddy keep delaying the case to frustrate my new landlord , back to what transpired, buglers stole few of my things I told my sale's rep to took some pictures and call police, they registered it , I filed another case that he brought some thugs to steal my goods worth millions (but nah only watch and few jeans worth 120k they took from my store) now we are no longer fighting for eviction nah case of stealing we dey fight for court once every month, the case lasted for 22 months , infact it still in the court because I finished my building and moved my important things from there and locked empty rooms and store.. he was the one even begging for us to settle out of Court, which we later did and my 120k paid, I no even pay my homie any dime for representing me in the court , nah the young lawyer I dash 5k few occasional times for taxi, no be anybody u go intimidate. And I am one of the few ppl on this earth , my fellow man can intimate so easily like that
what goes around will come around. You continue with this mentality and you fall into a big law case will swallow you. The New landlord did absolutely wrong by not consulting with current tenant however, to lie and claim you loss millions is a mispresentation of facts. You're lucky you stay in an environment where there is no CCTV camera cuz you will have criminal record against you and your business.
I also feel like your comments are full of lies in itself. Just as you snap pictures and claim burglary so can your landlord claim you made it up and that you already moved out of the apartment when your quit notice elapsed.
Imagine they revisited this case in the future based on new evidences or if your salesgirl's testify against you in the future to confirm you mis represented the fact.
Again keep on with this sort of mentality till you get bleeped up.

Madcow:
We oftentimes have amnesia as it relates to Gods faithfulness and how he has helped even with things that seem so little and insignificant. I write this to hopefully encourage whoever reads to firstly trust God that although you may not be where exactly you want to be, trust God and he would comfort you and help you.
I had my soft landing with my family in December 2019, In the 4 week period, God blessed us with good people, quality accommodation fully furnished, and my full drivers license one-time. My family was settled so I went back to Nigeria to prepare, for my hard landing. I gave myself 3 months to prepare (work my notice period and liquidate assets in Nigeria).
God was so kind; a friend took over my apartment alongside everything I wanted to dispose off (saving me from the stress of selling items in piecemeal) paid the rent, bought my car and paid upfront and moved in with me. Then Covid-19 hit, and the airports were lockedā€¦ confusion erupted! Nonetheless, God was still kind. My former place of work extended my notice to cover whenever I was able to leave the country and also my friend accommodated me in my former apartment at no cost to me.
Towards the end of June 2020, I got an evacuation flight at a miraculous price and returned on my hard-landing as we call it here. The first couple of days in self-isolation were very restful. I slept ate watched tv and continued sleeping. By the end of the 1st week I became bored and I decided to start applying for jobs. When I got my first rejection email, it hit me hard and all of a sudden confusion erupted again as I began to question my decision to leave Nigeria. The novelty of being close to my wife and kids soon faded. I tried to pray but nothing was coming out. Later that day, I came across an old friendā€™s testimony on his wifeā€™s Instagram page #healoā€™clock. He was speaking about faith in the fire and how he turned to worshiped whenever he found himself in a dark place. There and then I began to worship, and the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance Gods promises to me that He had prepared and is bringing me into a beautiful future.
Looking for a job is a job in itself, editing oneā€™s CV and to reflect the JD of each job advert is no easy task. In my entire career, all the jobs I have held were either through referrals or headhunting, I have never really had to apply so looking for a job was new terrain. I did not want to live on our savings so I discussed with my wife, exploring the possibility to purchase a vehicle and drive on a ride-hailing service at least until I got a Job. We prayed and agreed but the Master Planner was working in the background. Later that day, my land lady called to ask if I had a driverā€™s license and mentioned that she knows I would need a car to move around, advising me not to purchase a car yet until things stabilized and there is a genuine need. She handed me car keys to one of her cars for my use (this is a 2018 car, and it is 8 months and counting, I am still using the car not having to pay for insurance just fuel)
On the 10th of July 2020, I got a random email from a lady I networked with during my soft landing (She is an immigrant herself from Iran and she advised on getting a survival job that may not necessarily be in line with your career path, so one is able to earn and spend without diminishing ones savings) asking if I was still searching and if I was interested in a work from home sales opportunity. I answered yes and to cut the long story short, I got a job offer on the 24th of July to start on the 1st of August.
I had not done sales in the past; it was new terrain. I remember during the orientation training after a poor presentation I was so sad/frustrated, thinking to myself ā€œme that was an Oga in Lagos and subject matter expert in my field now selling and imploring people to buy items I donā€™t even believe they needā€.
I started the job and was doing enough to get by and applying for other opportunities (come and see rejection emailā€¦ brekete) I developed thick skin and could not even be bothered to read the rejection email or give myself totally into applying to other opportunities. In September and October, I was on Performance Improvement Plan and if no improvement by the 3rd month (November) I would be out of work. My prayer point changed, in addition to landing the international job, I began to ask God to help me do the one that my hands found to do with all my might as Ecclesiastes told us. To cut the long tori short, In Dec 2020 I was ranked #2 out of over 340 salespeople in the Company, in Jan 2021 I was #1 and now in Feb MTD I am ranked #1 and the sales commission is going a long way. I cannot say I am special or better than others but all I can say is Na Baba GOD do am!
Today, I got a rejection email from an application I made to an international company, it pained me because I had 2 panel interviews, a full-day assessment center and final interview with the CEO. Initially, I was sad, but I refuse to have amnesia. I remember Gods promises and how He has helped and blessed me in the past and I have hope in the truth that He will bless and help me again. My story has encouraged me and I hope it will encourage someone else that although this journey not appear to be easy nonetheless God is omnipresent and he is still in the background working things out for your good.
I cannot wait to come back to tell you that God has done it!
job interviews in Canada is tricky. The process of the job application and the actual interview is as important as your skillset. As an immigrant, I recommend participating in softskil Development or interview workshops which can go a long way. Wishing you success.

Education / Re: Why Is Any Number Multiplied By Zero Equals To Zero? by toboy: 1:37pm On Jan 14, 2021
Tohsynetita1:

Probably, you don't understand the meaning of multiplication, God says be fruitful and multiply. For multiplication to occur, it must be 2 entity that are not empty, Procreation is as a result of union of two people. Man with Nothing can not bring a child. The zero, in the expression will always affect the answer and make it to be nothing.
what about a situation where a couple is unable to procreate because maybe the man's sperm is not fertile or the woman's womb is unable to house a baby. 2 entities are involved , yet no procuration. Are you saying they're empty because the cant procreate? Mind you the same Biblical analogy you are arguing with says Virgin Mary conceived of her son Jesus through immaculate conception. That is one entity procreating without needing to meet another entity.

You are absolutely liable for that money that got into your account. You should be careful to manage the situation so you don't bring irreparable damage to your reputation. I recommend you explain the situation to the account and ask the account to seed you an official letter showing when your job was terminated, the accountant should also explain in the letter that they have mistakenly sent you that payment. With the official letter , go your bank and ask them to revert that payment as it was by mistake. If the bank refuses, let them give an official reason for it. Again, this can damage your reputation because any future employer that calls them for references, they can cite this experience to them. You employer can take actions against you too

Chai! OP Your situation just made me think up a similar sad story we had here in Montreal! A man abducted his two kids and after days of searching, they found the kids dead sad and the man no where to be found. It sounds like your husband is dealing with tough issues and then you threatened him on top of it with sth he holds dear. My piece of advice is to deal with a situation like this by seeing your husband as someone who need help and affection. A lot men go crazy about the idea of loosing thier Family and having to restart from zero. You can begin with connecting with your husband families or close friends and explain the situation. work together to make sure the children are safe first and that your husband understands they are his children and no body is taking them away from him. Please, don't threaten him he may not even mentally stable as we're speaking. If you find out where he is or is able to connect with him, approach it softly, tell him you're sorry about what you said, you love him, and didn't mean to threaten him that way. Keep your personal problems aside, you really needs to manage this amicably for the sake of the children. I'd recommend you ignore people asking you to put more on fire on this so no one is hurt. Also think long term, imagine if this done forcefully and he has to go to jail for it. He may plan a retaliation attack. It's really important that could dialogue and iron problem out peacefully. People can part ways in peace and with respect and proper arrangement if it no longer working. Na was oo, I have never experienced this sort of thing but it looks very worrying. Good luck Dear, praying it turns out well

Hello all, with a good number of folks working from home due to COVID-19, you can claim back some of your home office expenses from the CRA. Review the info at the link below, and also talk to your accountant/tax advisor. All the best.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/news/2020/12/introducing-a-simplified-process-for-claiming-the-home-office-expenses-for-canadians-working-from-home-due-to-the-covid-19-pandemic.html?utm_source=mediaroom&utm_medium=eml
for someone who has been working from home for more than half of the year, would you know how much returns they could get? I need to start paying really close attention to the taxes. All this while, I'd use a filing agency which I feel like it kinda limit you knowing the ins and out of the whole thing.

In life you have to be careful to learn how to see and to know what you see. Most things that happens in life is based on what you see and how you see things.

The western world is a value driven system meaning every citizen is expected to create enough value to support themselves and sustain the system. Technically this means for as long as you live in the western world you would continue to labour to build and sustain Rome. This happens in form of taxes when you buy or own property, buy goods and services and even upon death you pay probate tax. This you cant avoid however you can reduce the taxes you pay with tax reduction strategies which only a few know about.

The system is also built to ensure you spend every income on the local economy hence the reason why very few are able to take wealth out of the system. The advantage of buying property in Africa is only because the cost of living compared to the west is lower and the taxation system is very weak so you can get away with a lot of things you cant get away with in the west. Africa is also a growing economy meaning things are bad in Nigeria but will get better overtime as more infrastructure is been built. Everything in life is in cycles...the Chinese call it ying yang...positive and negative..hotwater and coldwater etc.. we have had it bad for a long time hence its inevitable it will get better...The cost of everything will continue to rise and eventually become like the western world. hence..taking advantage of this and acquiring property is one of the best things you can do while you can...however like i said acquire knowledge so you know how to inter-prate what you see....acquire wisdom so you can sit in a position where you can see thing clearer and deeply

Hope this helps you understand why its wise to have investment in your home country.
I find your post quite educative and matured. Thank you for sharing. Truly you don't see comments like this often around here.

Hi all,
I applied for study permit and i have received a mail requesting for mypassport but in theletter it states that my passport expiry date must cover my study period because permit expiry datewould be the same as my passport expiry date.
My questions;
1. Is this possible? shouldnt it be the expiry date on the program not my passport?
2. if so i need to plan to process my Nigerian passport renewal. I am looking to renew in the USA.

Nigeria has 3 embassies in the US; New York,DC and Atlanta. I want to know which one is currently processing the renewal faster (within 1 week please). PLEASE YOUR RESPONSE IS MUCH APPRECIATED, would it be too much to also ask for someone's contact at the embassy who could be of assistance.

Thank you
Answering because I had a similar experience.
If your passport is expiring soon then you may need to renew your passport so that you have enough valid timeframe that can contain the work permit (usually 3 years depending on your program).
If your passport expiry pre-dates the work permit, the government will only issue you a permit that is the same expiry date of your passport. You can still get the remainder of the work permit when you get a new passport, however you need to re-apply for it and pay an additional application fee.
During my own time, I just renewed my passport which had roughly one year expiry date at that time. Then I applied for work permit with my new passport and got a 3 years work permit.
I do not not have information about passport renewal in the US. I did my passport renewal at Ottawa.
