Politics › Re: Don’t Pay For Bail Again—police IG Warns Nigerians by Tolexander:
The police chief said he will not hesitate to prosecute any officer found guilty of such crime.

Arase, addressing officers at his maiden visit to the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, also warned that henceforth, every police officer must have sufficient evidence to arrest and interrogate any suspect, which is the normal practice worldwid
if the boldened is tried, i'm damned sure that all the police officers including the IG that made the statement will be prosecuted.

Before he was appointed as the IG, does he wanna tell us that he didn't collect any bail or partook in the sharing of money realized from it.

If it is implemented, it will be well and good! But I don't see any sincerity in what the IG said cos almost all the officers of the NPF are bunch of rotten eggs that need getting rid off, the IG inclusive.

Politics › Tribunal Orders Inspection Of Ballot Papers In Akpabio’s Election by Tolexander(op): 12:11pm On May 08, 2015
The National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal for Akwa Ibom on Friday ordered the inspection of 450,000 ballot papers used in declaring Governor Godswill Akpabio as Senator-elect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Akpabio the winner of the March 28 Senatorial Election for Akwa Ibom North-West District.

This declaration prompted the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Senatorial District, Chief Inibehe Okorie, to petition the Tribunal asking that Akpabio’s election be nullified for alleged irregularities.

Ruling on the prayers of the petitioner, the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, directed that the polling documents used in the election be inspected.

Oyebanji explained that the order was derived from the provisions of Section 151 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010.
The section allows for inspection of polling documents if the Tribunal is satisfied that it could help maintain or defend an election petition.

The chairman further directed that the inspection should be conducted within 10 days from May 8, in the presence of the respondent or his agents and the security agents.

Earlier, the counsel for the petitioner, Chief Assam Assam (SAN), had prayed the Tribunal to grant leave for inspection of the polling documents to verify 450,000 votes scored by Akpabio.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 35 petitions had been received by the Tribunal in the state as of May 8.

Barely 48 hours after the Chief Gary Igariwey-led

Ndigbo endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan
for the February 14 presidential election, [b]another
faction led by Chief Ralph Obioha has distanced
itself from any endorsement, insisting that it
would be counter-productive to commit Ndigbo
to any form of blanket support.

They made it clear that they will not be
endorsing either President Jonathan or his main
challenger and the candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu
Buhari for next week’s presidential election.
In a joint media briefing addressed by Obioha
and Dr. Zed Chukwujama as chairman and

Committee respectively as well as Chief
Mbazulike Amaechi, the chairman of the
organisation’s Elders’ Council, the group asked
Igbos at home and those residing in various
parts of the country to vote according to their
conscience.

They expressed dismay that until now, none of
the two major presidential candidates including
President Jonathan of the PDP and Buhari has
entered into any form of agreement with Ndigbo
on the four cardinal issues they have outlined.
The issues according to them include, security of
lives and property of Ndigbo, infrastructural
development in Igbo land, Reparation for
atrocities and war crimes against Ndigbo at least
at the level recommended in the Oputa Panel
Report as well as what would become of Ndigbo
after the tenure of the would-be president by
2019.

“Of the two candidates, only one sent a high level

agreements to be reached will be implemented
by him, if he wins and becomes president. We
have not seen the candidate as at this date. The
other presidential candidate has not made any
contact with the committee, which is the
authentic legal organ of Ohaneze. If his believes
in some other areas or persons to gather the
Igbo nation into one basket, we can only wish
them good luck.

[color=crimson]“Where do the Igbos belong and what is their
fate after the incumbency of whoever wins in
2015 election? President Jonathan has said it
openly that after his second term, it will be the
turn of the north. On the other hand, Buhari wins
and desires to emulate Nelson Mandela and
bows out after one term because of his age, it
will be reasonable to expect another northerner
to complete his term. Thereafter, he would want
to exercise his constitutional right of second
term, making 12 years, “ they noted.
In view of the situation on ground, the faction
asked the Igbos to pray for God’s guidance on
the day of election and vote according to their
conscience advising them also to be vigilant
before, during and after the polls.

They were also asked to make appropriate
arrangements to save their lives, family and
property, while appealing to the governors of the
south-east to make contingency arrangements,
separately and collectively to evacuate Igbo
citizens who may be trapped in an area of
violence in view of the ominous uncertainties

Politics › Outages ‎force Reps To Shut Down Proceedings by Tolexander(op): 6:12pm On May 07, 2015
Outages ‎force Reps to shut down proceedings

Proceedings at the House of Representatives were disrupted on Thursday due to ‎frequent outages.

The development forced presiding Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, to adjourn the plenary of the House till Tuesday next week.

The outage affected the air conditioning system of the chambers, leaving lawmakers sweating profusely each time it occurred.

Members, who had motions, bills and other issues to present, also found it difficult to work as the discomfort in the hot chamber became unbeatable.

Our correspondent observed that the problem started before Thursday’s session got underway around 12noon.

The lights were restored briefly as soon as Ihedioha and other principal officers settled down for work, but went off again almost immediately.

He tried to continue with the business of the day amid the power interruptions.

At a point, the deputy speaker‎ calmed members by explaining that the electrical system had some faults, which were being traced.

Lawmakers reacted to his explanation by shouting, “the beauty of transformation.”

Several others, apparently from the camp of the All Progressives Congress, mouthed “change will take care of all this.”

The public gallery was full at the time of opening the House on Thursday, but with the heat growing stronger in the enclosed chamber, the visitors left one after another.

Children, who came from the American International School, Abuja, to observe the proceedings of the day, also hurriedly left the place due to the unbreakable heat.

Ironically, some of the visiting children were children of some of the lawmakers.

Some of them stood up to identify them‎selves as parents when the children were announced to be among the visitors of the day.

The National Assembly has of late been grappling with keeping infrastructure like ‎water, power and elevators running efficiently.

Findings indicated that alleged “funding challenges” and huge expenditure to run heavy generators in the absence of dependable public power, had drained resources in the last six months.

The National Assembly, its bureaucracy and the National Assembly Service Commission had a budget of N150bn in 2014 to run services, pay salaries, running costs and allowances of senators and members of the House.

Now let me join in this discussion.

I watched all the above mentioned generations of Eaglets. The 1993 and 2013 stand out.
In terms of players with great potentials and quality the 1993 has it. As per team work the 2013 team has it.

I watched the 1985 boys but I was still young then and didn't understand football much. However I rewatched the final against Germany some years after on NTA. Players like Nduka Ugbade, Sani Adamu, Victor Igbinoba, Jonathan Okpoborie and Fatai Atere stood out. Though they won matches bt they were not as dominating as the 1987, 89 and 93 sets. Infact they had to beat Guinea in semis through penalties-in a game that Guinea dominated. In the final too, Germany was doing the playing while Nigeria was doing the scoring.

Worthy of note is also the 1987 Eaglets. Though they lost through penalty shoot-outs to the stars studded USSR Team that also featured Oleg Salenko. Players like Phillip Osundo, Dimeji Lawal, Chris Nwosu, Baba Jubril Babalola and co were stand out players. A highly talented set that went to Saudi in 1989 and lost to a Rui Costa, Luis Figo and Joao Pinto let Portuguese team. Remember also the Damam Miracle? They formed the Nucleus of that team.

Another great group was the 1989 set. Infact they were supposed to be the winners of that 1989 WC if not for the heroics of that tall Saudi Keeper in the Q/Final. Nigeria could only convert one penalty after the game ended 0-0 at FT. That Saudi team went on to win the cup.
Notable players from that talented group were: Victor Ikpeba, Benedict Akuegbu, John Zaki, Olusegun Fetuga, Kayode Keshinro, Precious Monye.

From the 1993 set so many of the squad went ahead to play for the Super Eagles and then big clubs in Europe. Notable among such players: Nwankwo Kanu, Wilson Oruma, Festus Odini, Manga Mohammed, Celestine Babayaro, Mubi Oparaku, Karibe Ojigwe. This set is still seen as the greatest so far. Who can forget that 8-0 bashing of Canada and 4-0 trashing of Argentina at the group stage. Not forgetting also that great West African derby of a final against a star studded Ghana team led by Daniel Ado. Most of the graduates of this set became successful footballers.

The 1995 set was a flop though they were able to get to the Q/Final where they lost to Oman. That team till date was the worst set to have been presented by Nigeria at the U17 World Cup. Notable players were: James Obiorah, Kinsgley Amuneke, Edward Anyankhim, Emmanuel
Nwakire, Sani Abacha, Haruna Babangida, Igineware George.

The 2001 set showed promise. They had a couple of players that had the potential to be great but something went wrong along the line. They lost 3-0 to France in the final. Notable players: Femi Opabunmi, Segun Abiodun, Ayuba, Temile Omonigho, Sunday Mba, Kenedy Chinwo, Akpan Bassey.

In 2003, we had a talented team but was bedeviled with changes in the coaching crew and bad luck. I remember Eguavoen was brought in late to handle the team. They crashed out through a toss of coin at the group stage after Drawing Costa Rica, beating Australia and losing to Argentina side that had Messi, Aguero, Mascherano and some others. Notable players from that crop: John Obi Mikel, Chinedu Ogbuike(Obasi), Emmanuel Sarki, Solomom Okoronkwo, Isaac Promise, Ezekiel Bala, Ambrose Vanzenkin.

In 2007 we thought we had another golden generation since after the 1993 set. A team that bulldozed it's way to win the title that year. Notable Players: Haruna Lukman, Rabiu Ibrahim, Ganiu Oseni, Macauley Chrisantus, Kabiru Akinsola, King Osanga, Matthew Edile, Segun Ajiboye. The players however failed to live up to their post U17 rating and they all fizzled out of the spot light.

The 2009 group took everyone by surprise . After they failed to qualify for the CAN U17 Pundits ruled them out. Infact they featured in the U17 WC because Nigeria hosted. They got to the final and lost to Switzerland. Who can forget that great comeback in the opening game against Germany in Abuja. Coming back from 3-0 down in the first half to finish 3-3. Notable graduates from that talented squad: Ogenyi Onazi, Kenneth Omeruo, Stanley Okoro, Sani Emmanuel, Ramon Azeez, Michael Olaitan, Edafe Egbedi, Omo Ojabu, Olanrewaju Kayode, Abdul Ajagun, Fortune Chukwudi.

The all conquering 2013 group looked too good to be true. Pushing and crushing away oppositions and winning 3-0 both in the semis and final. This has been judged as the next great team after the 1993 set. All the players in this team are worthy of note. However stand out performers were: Kelechi Iheanacho, Musa Mohammed, Taiwo Awoniyi, Musa Yahaya, Chidiebere Nwakali, Chdera Eze, Dele Alampasu and nt forgetting the injured striker Isaac Success. One foreign analyst once said it is as if they play 10-man defense, 10-man midfield, and 10-man attack. All that is left is for us to see how they perform at the U20s.

The 2015 group are the next to enter the history books. They finished 4th at the CAN U17 and book makers are already writing them off. But they should remember that the 2009 set didn't qualify for CAN but later got to the WC final. The team has till September to prepare and make us proud again. cheesy
Very nice and captivating analysis.

on the bolded, these footballers mentioned didn't feature for the Argentine team in Finland sir!
