Politics › N32b Lost To Ricesmugglers by Tolexander(op): 11:04am On Mar 08, 2013
NIGERIA lost N32 million to rice
smugglers last year, the Rice
Importers & Distributors
Association of Nigeria (RIMIDAN)
has said.
Its President Mr Tunned Owoeye
spoke yesterday in Abuja at the
presentation of 150 vehicles
worth N600million the group
donated to the Nigeria Customs
Service (NCS).
He explained that the assistance
is to complement the efforts of
the service at combating the
menace and to help in patrolling
and monitoring of the country’s
borders.
He added: “We feel that the time
to roll out that Federal
Government willpower against
smugglers is now, before they
cause greater damage to the
Federal Government’s economic
plans, and the livelihood of
millions of other Nigerians.
“Our call is for the Federal
Government to strengthen its
mechanisms for policing the
land borders, especially the
Seme Border, flank as well as
other related areas, where much
of these acts are being
perpetrated. Countries located
with this kind of challenges just
go all out to increase land
borders’ monitoring so as to
curb the activities of smugglers.”
The Comptroller-General of the
Service, Abdullahi Dikko, appealed
to the group members to extend
their partnership to offer
relevant information.
He added: “I promise , we shall
make good use of information
provided.”

Politics › Re: How Have Politics, Law And Culture Affected Women In Nigeria? by Tolexander: 1:23pm On Mar 07, 2013
My primary school teacher told me that culture is the total way of life of the people. And it encompasses language, clothing, food, sport, law, politics, religion, etc.
Some pure old cultures demean women. E.g women not being entitle to formal education cos they are men's property, women not counted as human being in old hebrew's culture, Women not being entitled to be an heir to her father's property after his death in some african cultures.
I got to realise that culture is something that is not that rigid and has been diluted or better put integrated with some cultures through civilization, colonialism, war, trade, adventure and sport.
Maybe before, the mentality in a settlement is a woman can't successfully rule the community. They got invaded by britain during the elizabethian(both i and ii) or victorian era and got colonized, the observation of the way the queens rule the colonist can possibly change the mentality of the colony and make them realise that woman can rule successfully if given the opportunity. This cultural interference can lead to the developement of women in the society.
Some cultures still promote women developement cos they don't underestimate the power of women in the society. Ashanti seems to be one of this cultural tribe.
Politics › Re: How Have Politics, Law And Culture Affected Women In Nigeria? by Tolexander: 12:30pm On Mar 07, 2013
in Canada's Criminal Code. .
Section 271 defines a sexual assault as a situation in which " somebody touches you in a
sexual way on purpose,
directly or indirectly, without your consent.
The sexual harassment law made women to realise they can perform their responsibility without the fear of being sexualized or sexually harassed.
It also makes them to realise that they have access to the government facilities as much as their male counterpart without any fear of being sexually abused.

Literally, law is an official rule that binds and also empowers!
"Women’s rights are human
rights and should be treated as
such." To quote President KR
Narayanan.
Fundamental human right is a law that doesn't bias a man against a woman. This empowers women to strive to acquire with their male counterpart as long as they can for any post or event.
Politics › Re: How Have Politics, Law And Culture Affected Women In Nigeria? by Tolexander: 11:40am On Mar 07, 2013
Politics.
During the begining of the american politics, mid to late 1790s. History made us to realise that only men were engaged in politics. But as adam became aware that he was unclad, i.e, when women discovered politics is not something of gender based, they started venturing into the politics.
Women's adventure into politics gave an awareness to other women in the US and outside world that there are still some post they could vie for. Later, they started going to the house such as senates, representative and assembly.
In these houses, some women tried initiating the passage of some bills that directly and indirectly affects the women. Like formal education for female children, female circumcision, gender equalities, etc.
Formal education to the female gave them the intellectual ability to occupy some post like academics, ministerial, financial, political, judicial.
The post occupied by some of these women created a psychological agitation in the younger females making them to create a role model and mentor out of these intellects and making them to strive to achieve the post or even higher.
Examples of such intellectual women are Olufunmi Ransom-Kuti, Pharmacist Dora Akuyili

Politics › Patience Lobbies Senators’ Wives For Passage Of Gender-related Bills by Tolexander(op): 10:46am On Mar 07, 2013
Abuja – First Lady Dame
Patience Jonathan on
Wednesday lobbied Senators’
wives to encourage their
spouses to pass bills
concerning women issues.
Jonathan made the appeal in
Abuja when a delegation of
the wives of some senators,
led by Mrs Helen Mark, the
wife of the Senate President,
paid her a courtesy visit at
the State House.
“As wives of legislators, you
have critical roles to play in
lobbying your spouses to
give legal cover to our
collective desire for progress
for the women of Nigeria.
“This is because the legal
provisions that will
guarantee protection for
women and girls are not yet
in place.
“This imposes a duty upon
us to work together to
ensure that our spouses
present on the floor of the
Senate, bills on 35 per cent
affirmative action, Female
Genital Mutilation, and
Widowhood Rights.’’
She appealed to the women
to redouble their efforts as
advocates, and ensure that
their husbands put the right
laws in place for the growth
and development of the
country.
“As you pray for the success
of your husbands, I urge you
to also encourage them to
put the country first in their
legislative duties.
“This is because the nature
of the laws we promote or
do not promote, can affect
the country, and perhaps the
future of our own children,’’
she said.
Jonathan said the legislature
must continue to pursue
those matters that address
the greatest interest of all
Nigerians, irrespective of the
state of things at other levels
of society.
“In doing this, we must be
mindful that attitude is
crucial, such that a positive
objective is not allowed to
attract negative
interpretations and thus
mislead the public into
wrong impressions.
“A case in point is the recent
unnecessary controversy
over the Secretariat project
of the African First Ladies
Peace Mission, generated on
the floor of the Senate.
“Unfortunately, the entire
process was taken out of
context, and naturally
resulted in misleading the
public.
“I wish to state again, that
the Mission is not my NGO,
but an association of all First
Ladies in Africa, out to
promote the culture of peace
and intervene on behalf of
vulnerable groups in
situations of violent conflict.
“Nigeria only happens to be
the sitting President, as the
Peace Mission has had as
President in the past,
countries such as the
Democratic Republic of
Congo, Burkina Faso and
Equatorial Guinea.
“It was at Nigeria’s election
in Congo in February 2008
that the country accepted to
host the permanent
Secretariat of the Peace
Mission.’’
Jonathan thanked the
delegation for the donation
of relief materials to victims
of the violent conflicts in Mali,
Guinea Bissau, Kenya and
Sudan.
“In my capacity as the
President of the Peace
Mission, I wish to assure you
of my single-minded
devotion to the promotion of
the culture of peace across
Africa,’’ she said.
Earlier, Mark had lauded the
First Lady’s activities in the
promotion of women’s
rights.
She announced the donation
of bags of various foodstuff
and rolls of wrappers.
“We hope that this modest
donation will go a long way
in alleviating the hunger and
pain of the victims in those
countries,’’ Mark said. (NAN)

Oieezhah: Post naughty activities u engaged in, in your primary school days.
you should have started by telling us your own story!

There was this young pretty gurl that was 6years old then in my class, primary 2. I was just 7years. She stayed not far from the school and her house was by my route to our primary school. She did sit between the headmistress son and i.
I loved talking to the gurl but she wouldn't give me any attention, she always prefered playing with the headmistress' son like many other pupils in the class.
One day, i discovered during the break, these my sitting partners(the gurl and headmistress' son) left the class together and moved towards the school library. I jealously thought in my mind where my sitting partners were going and started stalking them. Latter they entered into the school library where many school pupil hardly went during the break cos they would try to get themselves something to eat.
I waited outside for 5minutes and just banged in, saw them in between the table and chair at the last end of the library with the guy having his short half drawn down leaning on the gurl with her paint off. I told them God catch you today! i will tell uncle. They started pleading with me and i told them the only condition i wouldn't tell uncle which is i would have my own sex with the gurl. They consented to my condition and started with the gurl when the headmistress son was done.
I discovered the headmistress son had disappeared and the next thing i saw were our mates coming towards us. The god forsaken headmistress son had gone to tell them the gurl and i were having sex.
They reported us to the headmistress and the next thing to bring our parents the following day after beating a hell out of us.
We told our mates that the headmistress son was there but they wouldn't listen cos they very like the headmistress son and wouldn't rope him in.

YOLA — Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC, has dragged former
Governor Boni Haruna of
Adamawa State and three
others to the Federal High

alleged fraud, conspiracy,

company to siphon millions
of Naira to facilitate the Bring
Boni Back Project, BBBP.
Elias and the Al-Akim
Company Nigeria Limited
who were the third and
fourth defendants in the
case were absent in court
but the court had ordered
that they should appear
before it during next
