U mean people working off d records, Well they may escape some bills but they won't access to some very cool things...I get your point it may look that way when we look at those with not-too-good paying jobs...but ofcourse a smart n hardworking person will always make much more even with the tax...as a documented person, U can actually use your access to credit to make so much.

I mean those doing artisan jobs like plumbing, cleaning, child care, hair barbing and dressing etc. that gets paid in cash tend to make money than those of us doing suit and tie job. There was a time I enrolled my kids in a daycare here and we pay as much as $1,500 to the care giver. I'm sure she's remitting nothing to the govt. And she has 7 kids she tends to

Exactly! From my little observation and study of people's standard of living here, I've discovered that it is those that do menial jobs that gets more money because their billing is non taxable if you're paying them cash.

If you are rich, the best place to spend your money & have rest of mind without thinking of too much taxation to me is still Nigeria.
Apart from the fact you are a into Medicine, Nursing or I.T which pay well abroad, 90% of the time it's actually frustration, unemployment & lack of opportunities in Nigeria that make people try to travel out of the country.
I have a friend who spent more than 2 million Naira trying to aquire a U.S Visa. Few weeks to the day he was supposed to fly to the U.S, he got a job of 500K per month in Umuahia.
Immediately my guy abandoned all the plans he had of traveling out, plus the 2 million he had already spent & Immediately accepted the job.
Now he's doing well, just bought a Car & is already planning on building a house & settling down.
He no longer even thinks of leaving the country again.
The devil you know, is better than the angel you don't know.
A lot of people still went to the U.S & flopped big time.

That your friend did not do his research well. A salary of 500k p.m is not even up to USD1,000 and here, with good education you can get a job that pays as much as $4,000 p.m. And come to think of it, that salary of 500k has less value because of the high inflation rate. But here you get value for every cent you spend. If you are rich in Nigeria, you are only one sickness away from poverty. So many illnesses that coul've claimed lives in Nigeria are well managed here. See the list is endless

All these disasters can be traced down to religion fanatism in Africa,I can't understand how the whole nation will shut down because of festive period to the extent that there won't be anyone to monitor business and core infrastructures. For example
Most networks are not working perfectly at the moment
Bank apps are not working perfectly
PHCN light isn't okay either
Almost everything is down at the moment and it will be like this till January
It's just very sad religion is killing us in Africa, things will keep burning till everyone is back to work in January to monitor them

This has nothing to do with religion. Here in abroad most organizations don't open except those offering essential services. Just say the Nigerian system is bleeped up. Oyinbos don't joke with Christmas o so it's not a religion thing but rather a bad government.

This is not true o. As at 2015 that I served at winners cross river, pastors were receiving 70k with 150k house rent o. Assistant pastors were on 55k salary plus house rent too (can't remember how much though) .
The sacked pastors can express their grievances in a more sensible and matured way rather than going about emotionally blackmailing unsuspecting public.

I'm not even a member of the church but let's say the truth as it is. Though I have my reservations about the church.

There is no ban on Nigerians who want to migrate to Canada. Just make sure your profile points is very high. Someone is about to leave next month and met the points needed by them . [/quote]

I thought there was travel restriction in place when people were refused boarding since February.

I applied for a job recently and I got a feedback that my application has been received. However, I was going through my application again and I discovered an error in my CV. I forgot to edit the name of the organisation I was applying to in my professional summary as contained in my CV and I was so devastated that I'm tempted to resend it but my hubby cautioned me stating that it may disqualify me even though the clause wasn't expressly stated because looking at the job, it matches my qualification and experience. I don't know what to do cos I keep thinking about the silly mistake and I do not want to lose this opportunity.

i blame myself for going back. I was trying to be humble making no real deals. My fam said just for little money that im risking humiliation. I blame myself really. And to a large extent you are right.

Let me correct this notion of yours. Trying to show humility by bringing down yourself to people who appreciate you less is just a waste of time. I do it before but not anymore. Once I leave a place I leave even if you call me to come around I'll just ignore you. Employers and their loyal dogs aren't nice at all no matter how selfless you work. They only care about what benefit you be to them. An employer once told me hope I don't have any plan of marrying anytime soon. Another one told me pointblank that here, forget about your career, I'm here to make money, you work for me, I pay you. No room for self development, I keep saying that expatriates who treat our fellow citizens anyhow aren't to be blamed. If you see how a nigerian treats his fellow citizen you'll be shocked. Let me just rest here. Wish you luck and success in your future endeavours.

Events / Re: How Much Did You Spend on Your Wedding? by toluwalopsy(f): 10:35am On Apr 24, 2019
obamartins:
I just stumbled on my marriage note where I wrote down all my expenses while I prepared for my marriage and decided to share. This topic is to guide those planning for their wedding on how much on the average they should budget for their marriage. Although the amount you will spend depends on what you want and the tribe/family you are marrying into. I actually budgeted N1,200,000 (1.2 million) but ended up spending close to 2million.

I got married November 2018 to my beautiful esan girlfriend of 4 years. Here is the breakdown:

Pre-wedding
1. Lab test for HIV, Genotype and pregnancy (as instructed by the church) - N5000
2. Transportation to take her to see my parents - N10,000
3. Ring 18 karat gold (engagement, and wedding rings) - N75,000 (from aboki)
4. Wedding certificate - N4000
5. Wedding seminar organized by my church - N4000

Federal Registry:
1. Affidavit for spinsterhood and bachelorhood-N2000
2. Main fee - N34,000

Traditional marriage
1. Drinks - N140,000
2. Yams - N40,000
3. Salt - N4,000
4. Bride price - N10,000
5. Make up - N20,000
6. Food - N200,000
7. Transportation - N20,000
8. Photograph - N6000
9. Canopy - N6000
10. Palmwine - N2000
11. Palm oil - N12,000
12. Native kola - N3000
13. Introduction - N12,000 (did introduction same day as traditional marriage)
I love esan marriage, they don't put hole in one's pocket

White Wedding
1. Drinks and food - N300,000
2. Reception hall - N105,000 (a Catholic church event hall)
3. Decoration - N50,000
4. DJ plus MC - N35,000
5. Guest house accommodation for my parents - N15,000
6. Souvenir 100 unit (Jotter, bag and notebooks) - N93,000
7. Photographer - N20,000 (soft copies)
8. Video coverage - (Hmmmm! Money no reach)
9. My wife's wedding gown - N35,000 (rent)
10. Me and my bestman's shirt and suit - N36,000
11. My wife's makeup and accessories - N50,000
12. Hotel room for after wedding panpangolo - N18,000 for 2 nites
13. My shoe - N2,000 (it's a long story)
14. Cake (4 steps) - N15,000 (my wife baked it if not e for pass that amount)
15. Transportation for my parents back home - N10,000

This are the little I could remember, I will update as soon as I get them. It was supposed to be a budget marriage but I spent close to N2,000,000 despite cutting off as much expenses as permitted. What was ur marriage budget? Did you stick to your budget or did some unforseen expenses prop up? Please share for the benefit of those planning theirs.

Had my wedding in April 2018.All I spent did not reach 800k. Hubby budgeted 300k while I budgeted 200k. Someone paid for the hall while food and drinks were catered for by parents. All other expenses were borne by the couple. Believe you me there was more than enough to eat. It all depends on how well one can manage money.
