Hello all,
Please I am in a fix now concerning the English competency test.

I used IELTS an Assessment with EA (233311) and it came out positive. L/S/R/W = 8/8/6/7

Now I need to rewrite my English test to enable apply for EOI. I scheduled for PTE on the 22nd, which is in 12 days time. Yesterday, I prepared for and wrote the PTE mock test and my scores are still very low with Reading = 57 sad

Now the point is, should I go ahead with the actual test or should I reschedule and use E2 language tutors? I have tried so hard to improve my scores on my own using a lot of online resources, but still... cry

I am a little nervous because of the warnings people give on this forum like “winter is coming” and all. If I reschedule and use language tutors, I might need extra 2 or 3 months for a more professional tutoring.

My major concern is: will winter have come by then? I was hoping to submit and EOI before the year runs out.

Please, those that know and understand the trends please advice me. Thanks

thanks alot for the insight.

Even though the nature of his business is not disclosed, I reckon it won't be a big deal registering his business still.

I guess he currently runs a 'personal' business and not a Pty limited company. If so, all he has to do is register his business as a Sole Trader and get an Australian Business Number (ABN). This is done online (as simple as ABC). A Sole Trader is the simplest business structure. You don't necessarily need to register an Australian Company Name (ACN). However, if you would be receiving payments from the public for services or sales, a Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration would be required too.

If he intends to register a Proprietary (Pty) Limited company, he is better off going through an accountant.

Worry not about registering a business here. It is simple as opening a yahoo, sorry gmail account. You may want to speak to a professional for more details and benefits operating a registered business in Australia. You may be able to claim a portion of your bills, depreciation of property used in the business as tax deductions.

TravelRe: Living In Australia/life As An Australian Immigrant by tomimy1: 11:24am On Nov 15, 2018
Thanks for your resonse. i appreciate
iceberg54:
Generally between 90-120 AUD per day depending on centre (in Sydney). However you get subsidy from government based on your family income so you might not pay more than 30-40 AUD at the end of the day.

It's the same cost per child irrespective of age and you can keep your child there from 6weeks old (some centres accept older babies)

You will be eligible for Parental leave pay from Centrelink for up to 18 weeks if you have worked for 10 of the 13 months before the birth of your child. Some companies grant paid leave as well and you can take unpaid leave if you need more time off.

Cheers.

I Just got a positive outcome with Vetassess as a Civil Engineering draftperson with a mechanical and production Engineering Degree. i submitted evidence for 9 years including NYSC but 7.1 came out positive as they deducted 2 years for my degree not being highly relevant.

timeline: lodged on 22/10/18
positive outcome: 15/11/18

3wks plus. No call for additional information or documents whatsoever.
I submitted reference letters, pension, tax and payslip.

good luck everyone.
next phase here I come.

Please, what is child care cost like in Australia generally for a 3 months to 6 months old? Also, does employers grant maternity leave if you've only spent 1 year with them before giving birth? Just curious if i should have my baby here in naija or hold on till i get there.
TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by tomimy1: 11:23am On Nov 01, 2018
Would mechanical and production Engineering degree be considered relevant to civil engineering draftperson experience?

Were you sent an email requesting for GST exemption?

You shouldn't be asked provided the address you supplied is outside Australia.
I wasn't but uploading my documents for assessment and saw that under fees and payment.. thanks, I'll overlook it.

TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by tomimy1: 8:35am On Jun 04, 2018
I think i will wait for DHA, that's a valid point. THANKS
jayooh:
Cc tomimy1

I totally agree with Wapu on this. Carry on with your assessment which can take months while November is about 5month away. If your still in the same employment by then, nothing changes, the skill select system recognises your work anniversary automatically and awards your point accordingly.

You might only just decide to wait till July to be sure of what DHA have in stock for skilled migrants and occupation updates.

Best wishes
TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by tomimy1: 8:33am On Jun 04, 2018
Thanks for the advice. i already have IELTS result though its not so good, going for a remark on writting L-8,R-9, W-6.5, S-7. Hoping i get a positive response. with 10 points in English, i will be on 70 points. i will still give PTE a try but that would be after i see the new skill list in July.
wapu:
Will having the assessment now and while in the pool skill select awards you extra 5points for experience come November not something to consider?

But if you are comfortable waiting till Nov, that's fine.

I'll advice you use this period of waiting to get 20pts in English.
TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by tomimy1: 10:44am On Jun 01, 2018
HMMM. Thank you. i was going to wait till NOV to bag 8 yrs experience and forget about including NYSC year. with what you've said now,i will have to still wait till nov and then add NYSC for their deduction.
Prolivingproof:
That 1year period is used to calculate the qualifying period for you to meet the skill level of the nominated occupation. so they must deduct at least 1year as qualifying period, in some cases more than one year may be deducted.
TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by tomimy1: 3:16pm On May 31, 2018
waoh! congratulations. is it Vatesse?
pdlibra:
I want to use this post to encourage all those waiting for their assessment and to also appreciate all the advice i got with regards the earlier feedback i got from EA.

I waited for 31 Oz working days and 50 days before my application was picked up by an assessor despite the fact that i paid for fast track.

Quoted here was the feedback from the assessor.

I responded by writing an explanatory note with the following comments:

1, For NYSC, please provide:

- I stated that i do not have the requested document because i was only paid stipend during the period and i also attached my NYSC discharge certificate.

2, For upto 6 years job experience:
Please provide Electronic Tax Clearance Certificate Card for the whole period of employment at ......

- I explained that my state does not issue out such card. Also mentioned that Lagos state only recently commenced issuing it out but other states in Nigeria are yet to follow suit.

Less than 48 hours after i responded, I got the positive assessment for all my experience and degree. To God be the glory.

Please keep your faith alive, it will definitely happen.
TravelRe: DIY Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa - Part 2 by tomimy1: 3:14pm On May 31, 2018
Please may i know why vatesse would deduct a year from his experience. i am going to have exactly 8yrs of experience by 1st of NOV this year. i have decided to wait till then so that i can claim the full point on it. are you saying i wouldn't be given same? i have every evidence from tax to pay slip to employment letter to pension to reference letter etc. please help me understand so that i dont even waste my time waiting.
Prolivingproof:
At least one year will still be deducted from your work experience period by Vetassess. so getting 5 points from work experience may not possibly be feasible presently.
