I've noticed that, most political leaders and federal government appointee's from the Igbo stuck seems to be highly educated and somewhat technocrats, even before and after independence. Education is prevalent in Igbo land and honestly. Igbo are highly smart.
But that notion has be well established since 1945 AD..ever wondered why it is said that wise men come from the east

Love your witty comment. But who now checks Anambra if it has given itself the sole mandate to check others. However, we as Igbos shouldn't allow the Nigerian factor of state creation tear us apart. This goes to the likes of Chino and Abagworo who have made themselves defenders and fanatics of their states. These folks forget that we were first Igbos before the artificial state creation. Even, I as an Orlu son share close clanship and affinity with Chino's Uga than even Abagworo's Oguta. Yet, this same Chino has allowed bitter rivalry becloud his sense of reasoning. Rather than outline Rochas failure as Governor or even bash him as an individual, he shamelessly lead others to throw vituperation on Imolites. This alone is my grouse.
The most important thing is that the whole Igbo look out for anambra ..I am an anambra man born and bred in Owerri and we are called Owerri nchi isii then married to an Igbo from delta with ikwerre Igbo as an uncle ..how Igbo can a man be apart from me

One has to checkamte and look out for others and I think anambra seems to have taken that position in ensuring that Igbo family is intact and I don't think it is a bad idea

One has to do the yeoman dirty job...it is just very unfortunate it is anambra that chukwu has choosen

Nwanne ighotago

Orlu is even 10 mins drive from my place in Nnewi and chino messed up but I like him..he is a man that is very blunt and IMO people should be and shouldnt be exonerated

captainprogress:
Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke for the first time at the eighth senate on Thursday. And she address‎ed Bukola Saraki as “distinguished senate president” — a sign of new things after the bitter disagreement over the refusal of Saraki to toe party line in the election of senate leadership.

Tinubu’s ‎had remained quiet since the emergence of Saraki as senate president in June, and the defeat of Ahmed Lawan whom the APC hierarchy supported.

Tinubu, who was making a contribution to the debate‎ on the legislative agenda of the upper chamber, urged her colleagues to steer away from making mistakes the senate under the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made. “‎This is the first time Nigerians will vote against a ruling party to birth a new government. And looking at the agenda so far, I’m in the position to allow this new government to take root,” she said.

“I see us resisting things that did not work in the seventh senate‎. And since they didn’t work in the seventh senate why are we resisting them. “Thank God they said they want to consider the national conference report, but it went through a lot of criticisms and scrutiny. We as the APC then t‎hought was a mere distraction. If we are going to do a new constitution we should be given room to do that. “I think this senate has an agenda, and that’s to give the people what they want.

Let us go back to our constituencies‎, and look at the needs of the common man. Coming here if we have to make laws to that effect we should be given the room to do so.”

Jack Ma:

Before I founded Alibaba, I invited 24 friends to my house to discuss the business opportunity. After discussing for a full two hours, they were still confused — I have to say that I may not have put myself across in a clear manner manner then. The verdict: 23 out of the 24 people in the room told me to drop the idea, for a multitude of reasons, such as: ‘you do not know anything about the internet, and more prominently, you do not have the start-up capital for this’ etc etc.

There was only one friend (who was working in a bank then) who told me, “If you want to do it, just try it. If things don’t work out the way you expected it to, you can always revert back to what you were doing before.” I pondered upon this for one night, and by the next morning, I decided I would do it anyway, even if all of the 24 people opposed the idea.

When I first started Alibaba, I was immediately met with strong opposition from family and friends. Looking back, I realised that the biggest driving force for me then was not my confidence in the Internet and the potential it held, but more of this: “No matter what one does, regardless of failure or success, the experience is a form of success in itself.” You have got to keep trying, and if it doesn’t work, you always can revert back to what you were doing before.

As with this quote by T.E. Lawrence – “All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream in the dark recesses of the night awake in the day to find all was vanity. But the dreamers of day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, and make it possible.”

Jack Ma: People lose out in life because of these 4 reasons:

Being myopic to opportunity
Looking down on opportunities
Lacking understanding
Failing to act quickly enough
You are poor, because you have no ambition.

Ambition is living a life of great ideals; a magnificent goal in life that must be realized.

In this world, there are things that are deemed unfathomable, but there is nothing in this world that cannot be done. The depth of one’s ambition determines the potential of one’ future.

The Story of Juliet Wu Shihong – one of China’s first-generation professional managers, who gained success by working her way up the ranks from a cleaner, a nurse, a marketing executive, through self-education and learning on the job.

Juliet Wu Shihong

She had been the general manager for the world’s most famous multinational IT groups’ Chinese branches (Microsoft 1985-1998; IBM 1998-1999). She is also China’s first successful international corporate executive to join the executive team of a domestic private firm. Wu was seen as a symbol of the new generation of business executives that China has produced in its economic reform and opening-up.

When Wu started off in a big company working from the lowest ranks, her daily job was to pour tea and sweep floors. Once, because she forgot her staff pass, the company’s guard stopped her at the door and denied her entry. She explained to the guard that she was indeed one of the company’s employees, and that she had merely left the building for a short while to purchase office supplies.

Despite her pleas, the guard still did not allow to enter. As she stood at the gate, she watched as those of similar age to her, but smartly dressed in business attire walking through without having to show their passes.

She asked the guard, “Why are these people allowed through without producing a pass?” The guard dismissed her coldly nonetheless.

That was the turning point for Wu – she felt great shame, her self-esteem trampled on.

She looked at herself, dressed in shabby clothes and pushing a dirty push cart. Looking back at those dressed in smart attire, her heart felt a deep ache from the sudden realization of the sorrow and grief from being discriminated. From that moment, she vowed never to allow herself to be shamed like this again, and to become world-famous.

Since then, she used every opportunity to enrich herself. Every day, she was the first to arrive at work, and the last one to leave. She made every second count, spending her time learning the ropes. Her efforts soon paid off; she was made a sales representative, and quickly progressed to being the regional general manager of this multinational company in China. Wu did not possess strong academic qualifications, and was revered as the ‘Queen of Part-timers’. Subsequently, she assumed the position of GM of IBM China. This is the Wu Shihong, the heroine in China’s business circle.

If not for the incident, Wu Shihong would not have had the ambition to become rich, and her life would have taken a very different path then.

You are poor because you do not have the desire to become successful.
You are poor because you lack foresight.
You are poor because you cannot overcome your cowardice.
You are poor because you lack the courage and determination.
With ambition you can overcome all inferiority and maximise your potential!
With ambition you can persevere, continuously learn new things and strive for perfection.
With ambition you can defy all odds, and create miracles when others daren’t.
No matter how poor your family is, do not doubt your own abilities and lose sight of your ambition.

When your family deems you worthless, no one will pity you.
When your parents do not have money to pay the medical bills, no one will pity you.
When you are beaten by your competitors, no one will pity you.
When your loved ones abandon you, no one will pity you.
When you have not accomplished anything by the time you are 35, no one will pity you.
Go big, or go home. Otherwise, you’re wasting your youth.

Politics30 Life Lessons From Chinese Billionaire Jack Ma by tonychristopher(op): 8:37am On Oct 08, 2015
We know a lot of you that will read this will wait for APC,PDP to change their lives, a lot will wait for the governbment to spoonfeed them, a lot will blame their failures and inability to compete on strangers that might come up just the way South African farmers will blame foriegn Doctors for taking their job...but wait let us have a time out, rethink and do a re aprraisal....I have seen people here on nairaland, few very intelligent and their critical thinki9ng is sublime but many will come and criticise government. Criticising government is a good idea but what is bad about this is using all your productive life to do that.

We have to understand that Nigeria is a huge market, there is billions to be made and I do not get it when people will say that there is no opportunity. what I see is that most people have refuse to thinko and market their skills. Go to Murtala Muhammed Airport international wing and see how foriegners troop in to make money in Nigeria yet nigerian youths will blame their state on government. Nobody will; give it to us on a plattter, we have to work, we have to compete we have to know quota system is not the best but competing brings out the best.

This is not meant to be in politics section...yes some people will say why put it here, I know many people will not read this, yes i know that and I also know that many will just turn it into a bashing but the intelligent ones will take it .

Ready to incorporate Ma’s approach into your management of professional and financial life? Copy those that resonate most with you on a notecard and post them on your computer, in your wallet, or at another location where you will see them regularly. You’re about to go on a wildly successful ride with Jack Ma.

1. Look far and wide for opportunity.
Ma categorizes those who fail as often being myopic to opportunity. Look across the professional and financial landscape with a broad lens first, considering all possibilities. Then, bend down to dig under every rock and in every nook and cranny for potential opportunities.

2. Treat every opportunity as an open door.
No chance is too small, too menial, or beneath you. When something lies before you, seize it. Grasp it with all of your strength, work this opportunity with all of your heart. Bring everything that you are to bear on this task. Do not treat anything as small if you want large results.

3. Seek understanding.
Work to understand both your current position and the position to which you aspire. What, exactly, are you working for? Why? What will it take to get you to where you want to go?

4. Act quickly.
Sometimes, the race does go to the swift. What most folks miss, however, is that being “swift” means bouncing back from failure, not necessarily running most quickly at all times. Acting swiftly can also mean being the first one out of the blocks when the gun goes off. When an opportunity presents itself, act.

5. See beyond your circumstances.
No matter what your current condition, how or where you grew up, or what education or training you feel you lack, you can be successful in your chosen endeavor. It is spirit, fortitude, and hardiness that matter more than where you start.

6. Channel your ambition.
It is your job as a visionary to become single-minded in your ambition. Focus on your goal, work toward it, and never let it go.

7. Be courageous.
When Ma launched Alibaba Group, a highly successful group of internet businesses, he did so in the face of cautionary feedback from potential backers. There is a time for boldness, and in pursuit of your chosen ambition is that time.

8. Take chances in your youth.
If you are not rich by the time you are 35, says Ma, then you have wasted the opportunities of youth. Capitalize upon these young years, with their energy and imagination, by giving in to your ambition and the pursuit of it.

9. Unify your team toward a common goal.
You will never succeed in unifying every member of your team behind a single person. Ma estimates that 30% of people will always disagree with you. Unite them behind an idea, cause, or mission, however, and you can harness the power of the team.

10. Make yourself replaceable.
Part of unifying behind an idea or mission is reducing dependency upon any particular individual, including the founder or lead boss. Cultivate the ideas, skills, and approach that you value in individuals you trust. When you move on, their leadership will ensure the continued success of that mission or idea.

11. Hire those with better technical skills than you possess.
If the boss has better technical skills than the employees, then they hired the wrong people. Workers should always be technical experts. Hire them, empower them, and let them do their jobs. They’re better at it than you are.

12. Lead with vision, tenacity, and grit.
There are skills that are vital to successful leadership of any company or endeavor — vision, tenacity, and grit. A leader must be a visionary, able to see opportunity where others do not and acknowledge challenges before they come. A leader must be tenacious, be able to “hang in there” when a less determined individual would have long since given up. A leader must have grit, that ability to buckle down and do what is required in order to get the job before them, done.

13. Persevere.
Hard times will come. Challenges may be everywhere even at launch. Keep that founding vision in mind, and cling to it in rough waters as a lighthouse and guide. Your actions will inspire others to do the same.

14. Attitude is more important than capability.
It is your attitude that determines your altitude. Whether in smooth times or rough, successful leaders remain calm, confident in their mission, and focused on their desired outcome.

15. Savvy decision-making is more important than capability.
The most successful leaders are not always the smartest or the most qualified on paper. They do, however, surround themselves with extremely capable experts, turn to them for input, and make clear decisions. It is the decisions you make that will advance you and your endeavor forward one step at a time, not how qualified you are to move from square to square.

16. Money and political power cannot exist together.
Money and political power are mutually exclusive. One is the powder keg, the other, the match. Where both exist, an explosion will occur. If you are interested in both, pursue them consecutively, not concurrently.

17. Resilience is only understood after you have gone through hardship.
An intellectual understanding of resilience means nothing. The capacity to be resilient means nothing. It is only after having gone through hardships and having been tested, that an individual can be deemed “resilient.”

18. Your job is to be more diligent, hardworking, and ambitious than others.
There is a simple formula for success, every time. Be diligent. Work hard. Never lose sight of your ambition. Whatever form your endeavor takes, these principles hold true.

19. Compete with grace.
If you treat your competitors as enemies, you will be seen as an enemy yourself. You will soon be surrounded. Instead, enter professional competition with grace, honoring your competitor and remembering that next time, the tide may turn another way.

20. Take all competitors seriously.
No competitor is a giant unless you make them one in your perspective. Treat all competitors with respect; treat your own business with respect. All have an equal chance of success when the competition begins. The one you overlook may be the one that beats you.

21. Behold yourself a giant.
Every large business started somewhere. Your business started somewhere. All deserve a seat at the table. Behold yourself equal to those you are competing with, and conduct yourself accordingly.

22. Winners do not whine.
While occasional poor spirits are to be expected, with the accompanying utterances of annoyance or dejection, regular whining is a sure sign of failure. All endeavors will bring hardships and challenges. How you deal with them will indicate the success of your business. Winners do not whine.

23. Customers are first; employees, second; shareholders, third.
As a leader, you only have a certain amount of time and energy. Give yours to those who enable your business, first — your customers. Those who make your business run come second — your employees. The shareholders are given attention and resources only after the first two have been satisfied. Many business owners spend all day, every day, catering to the shareholders. This resource allocation is not sustainable.

24. Forget about the money.
You did not launch your business or project solely for the money. You went down this path to build a particular lifestyle, or to meet a need of your soul and mind. If you focus on the money, you will make different decisions than if you focus on the journey. Walk the path you started down diligently, with ambition; the money will come.

25. Find the right people, not necessarily the best or most skilled people.
The most skilled people on paper are not necessarily the ones who fit best into your culture, or work best with you. The most efficient people on paper may not be those you trust most. Sparkling resumes do not mean that an individual can grow and evolve with your company. Find the right people, now. They are the best people. Their skills can be developed, as will yours.

26. “Free” is a very expensive word.
When you give something away for “free,” you give away profits, as well as resources of manpower spent during development, implementation, and follow-up, and possibly intellectual property in the form of a great idea. Think carefully before you run such a promotion. Nothing is truly free.

27. A smart man uses his brain to “speak”…
The words that come from another’s mouth are not meaningful. Engage your mind. Utilize your intellect. Make decisions from an informed, grounded perspective.

28. … a wise man uses his heart.
Likewise, trust your intuition and your knowing. Making decisions from a place of faith can serve you exceptionally well, particularly with regard to personnel and when identifying strategic objectives.

29. We are born to enjoy life, not to spend it working.
The point of life is not to simply work, work, work, grinding away our bodies and our minds until we die. The focus should be on enjoyment, not only of your work but by creating time to play, relax, and enjoy those around you. If you work your life away, you will regret it — this is guaranteed.

30. Giving up is the greatest failure.
You will never know what you can achieve and accomplish, unless you try it. You will never know if your idea will “work” or if the business will produce, unless you stick with it. Adapt your ideas, change your strategies if you must, but never give up.

Let me correct you there. We are not from the same country. Nigeria is not a nation. It is made up of different nations, who were forced by Britain into one. I am an Igbo lady and that makes me a Biafran. My sole interest lies in ensuring the progress of Biafra and not nigeria.
Secondly, I don't think that the fact that we Ndi Igbo prefer to marry among ourselves makes us unpolished or unexposed. It's called gene pool preservation. Even if we marry outside, it will be preferable for us to practice selective mating with people who are known achievers like us. Mind you, I am not trying to pontificate here okay. It's just important that we maintain or better still, increase our edge over others. That's all.
What you said is just the damn true though it is bitter but you spoke well and I concur with your submission totally

I can never see those who committed genocide against my people as one with me. The difference between us is as light and day. One Nigeria is a scam. You definitely wouldn't understand, so don't even try to.
To the others who quoted me, your comments were seen but they are just not worth a response from me.

Even though I disagree with you on a lot of things, I agree with you here. I feel that intertribal marriages are messed up. If I have kids, I want them to have a clear identity of what they are. With intertribal/interethnic marriages, the children are mixed up with no clear identity and they live a life of confusion. Intertribal unions hurt smaller groups more because it will cut down on their even smaller numbers.
That's what I am saying and in extension killing the norms that is left ..then the worst thing is confusing the group and kids

When you see a child that has an Igbo father and a Yoruba mother ask that child where he is from...he will answer you that my father is an Igbo and mum a Yoruba ..without having a clear identity and this makes him butt if jokes and I won't like to see a kid that is derided because of this

There’s a wide range of Nigerian foods available today. The wide variety of ethnic communities found in Nigeria means that the nation located in West Africa has a varied and rich culinary tradition. Like other West African countries, most Nigerian Foods uses spices and herbs in combination with palm oil or groundnut oil in order to create deeply flavoured sauces and soups often made very hot with chili peppers. There are some staples and ingredients that cross the country’s state borders and there are lots ofNigerian foodsthat are not mentioned here but these are some of the foods we recommend you try when next you visit Nigeria. Nigerian foods consists mainly of rice, yam, cassava, plantain and beans just to name a few.

It is usually wrapped in a leaf known as Uma leaf but you can also put it in a plastic container, or even aluminium foil. It’s a low-cost food, all that is needed is just a few ingredients to prepare, This is a must eat food for every Nigerian home.

This can come in two ways; the ripe and the unripe, whichever you chose, the taste is great.

8.) Plantain porridge

https://i2.wp.com/buzznigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/yam_porridge.jpg?resize=850%2C428

For this particular food, its preparation is fast and easy but that doesn’t cancel the fact that it is very rich in iron especially with the unripe one. It goes better with dried fish, or if you like, meat. Vegetable is a must for this delicacy.
