@ Rob-Roy,

I hope Transcorp will not give their fans heart attack with all these their problems. I still cannot figure it out where they will get #14 b. to pay if they appeal and lose. I think we should continue to pray so that God will turn around the captivity of Transcorp and convert it to gain.

Peace.

RoughCut:
Add to that list Fidelity and Skye bank. Springbankhuh??nothing like that anymore

Hmmnnnnnn, i'm tempted to add WEMA to the list(the powers that be wont allow that to happen!) well it wont be a disaster at least  we get to sell our shares at a handsome premium to whoever  is gobbling up WEMA smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley
RoughCut,

I don't no much about Stringbank Plc. I was told that they still operate in Nigeria and people still keep their money there. If the bank is no more, why are they still operating and the CBN and SEC are not doing anything to stop them?.

Please, if you have any good info. on this bank(Springbank),kindly share it with us on this thread because some of us have relatives in Niger who still save with Springbank.

Peace.

@ Yodiyokun,

You are 100 percent correct. It's high time the wheat is separated from the chaff, men from boys and strong from weak.

I strongly believe that we need only 15 solid banks in Nigeria. Spring bank plc and unity bank plc should start looking for a solid bank to merge with now before its too late.

I'm no expert on stucks but i feel there are too much IPOs with less people willing to buy. I'm not sure some of these banks record up to about 50% subscription.
The issue of certificates is also another problem, irrespective of the fact that they come late, some end up not geting them at all.
I strongly support you. I believe with time everything will change for the better.

To all the Guru's in the house,

You guys have said a lot of good things about BAGCO IPO but what I read from Proshare News posted by Bootas is of a great concern to me. It was clearly stated that 6.26 billion which represent 90 percent of the IPO fund would be used to repay their loan. So, if this large chunk of the money is for loan repayment then one just have to be a bit careful with this BAGCO people or am I missing something?.

BusinessChanging Brokers: Matters Arising. by tonyjon(op): 3:34pm On Nov 04, 2007
Fellow Landers,

I think it's high time NSE should put in place an effective body or special agency to monitor the activities of registered stockbroking firm in the country. The activities of some of them are unprofessional and nothing to write home about.

Let's take the issue of changing broker. Generally in life, if you are involved in anything and you desire a positive result and the result is not forth coming, you have all the rights in the world to re-assess your performance and change certain things or go for a total change but that is not the situation of things in Nigeria when it comes to changing brokers, those that are not performing does not want their unsatisfied clients to move on with the lives by switching to another broker.

They will frustrate all your efforts and that of the new broker by not signing the transfer form. To me, this is unfair and uncalled for. Investors have their lives to live and brokers have theirs to live too and moreover, the money in question(shares) belongs to the investor. I strongly believe we urgently need a special agency to monitor their activities closely.

Please contribute if you have any suggestion.

Peace.

Omogigi 234, you are very correct. Fineass should be specific in her request. There are a lot of ventures that require different types of licence(s). So, Fineass tell us what you want to go into and we will be glad to furnish you with all necessary information.

I think the afribank P.O @ 25 bucks is too expensive. Are my wrong?how good are their fundamentals?answers needed ASAP please
[/quote

rasputinn,

I think you are right. The P.O @ #25 is very expensive. Even the way their share price rose on the floor of NSE within the last 6 months is somehow suspicious, I will not want to say that they intentionally WHIPPED UP their share price in preparation for the P.O. But all the same, I think it's a good buy for those who can wait for sometime before they reap their gain.

Mr. Cee:
@ NBA

Today I read on proshare about someone advising the investing public on how to deal with their brokers the one that caught my eyes was the one I am guilty of "Never use your brokers address when buying shares that will be giving them too much trust" This was exactly what I am about to do with my brocker I advised them to use their address for my PO/IPOs for faster certificate verification. Any advise should I withdraw that I advise or just give them a trial?
Mr. Cee,

That is just the truth. Do not use your stockbroker's address and if you have been doing it, you have to stop it. You are suppose to be in control of your investment.

@Iwerebor,

I am tempted - seriously tempted ! but naah I refuse to stoop so low to your level.

However, I will set the record straight.

I think the regulars on this thread will agree with me that it was noted here severally the WEMA IS RISKY BUSINESS.

It was dissected and mutilated several times over and everyone took their own stand.

For the most part, the folks here are not lazy bones angry - most people contribute intelligently one way or another, and I really do not think anyone here makes a buy decision on the price.

And no one here made predictions on WEMA price in the range of 20's - they wan steal am.

Finally, you do not have a right to talk to anyone here in such condescending manner, and are you telling us almighty @Iwerebor that you have not made one investment mistake in all your time on NSE.

I implore you with the mercies of God, If you have no words of wisdom, keep your foolishness to yourself.

We did not ask for your opinion!!!!

Geees:
I hear they don't like loosing anyone hence the suggested delay. I have not been in such a situation before. However I suggest you open another account with a stockbroker that meets you taste and compare before you transfer.

Now to my question: I have about 100k that i want to use to buy mutual fund from Cashcraft and
Union trustees ltd but am not all that convinced as regards the returns on funds compared to shares/stock.

tonyjon,
The stock market does yield more returns than mutual funds simply because mutual funds are conservative and defensive investments (investments that are almost obliged to yield returns) some of them are even guaranteed. Imagine you gave the 100k to Cashcraft and they say we lost your money sure you would HOLLA. So they tend to buy blue chip companies which give low returns but near certain returns on investment eg Firstbank, UBA, Wapco etc.
However if you buy say WEMA like Wanaj0 you could make 30% returns in 3 days, Speculating. However this would be a very risky venture for mutual fund managers, as WEMA is a serious gamble because they have not really had results for at least a year making calculation of profit and earnings difficult.
So do you want a guaranteed >20% return or a >50% "not too sure" return on your investment?
The choice is yours

(However with a good pick and the way the NSE is now you can comfortably make >50% return on investment in about a year.)

Cheers
Geees,

Thank you very much for your comprehensive explanation.

Peace.

tonyjon.
