Hi Guys,

I believe the misery surrounding the the difference between CSCS# and CLEARING HOUSE NUMBER (CHN) has now been solved.

I got in touch with CSCS office and I was told that for IPO/PO, the number to use is the numeric one which is known as CSCS# and that the alphanumeric is the Clearing house number.

I was also told that if you use the alphanumeric on IPO/PO application form, your shares will NOT be credited to your account;YOU WILL RECEIVE SHARE CERTIFICATE.

Your PHYSICAL appearance may be needed. That was what my broker told me as per GTB registrar.

Well, try get a change of name sworn affidavit with the notice in the papers along with a bankers confirmation. Hopefully that will help. If not, come home for vacation and pay a visit to GTB registrar. Don't forget to introduce yourself as a majore shareholder of GTB. tongue

BTW, the interim result of GTb is getting late. What is their problem?
@ yodiyokun,

Since your surname changed because of marriage, what you will need is a marriage certificate (photocopy and original)and they may also want to see you in person.

@tonyjon

Thanks for your reply. I know both PHB and bagco are good but I want to pick JUST ONE and hit it real hard. Hence my dilemma. Which would u back 100%?
Then go for BANK PHB. Banks at present are like money spinning machine. Apart from this, BANK PHB have good fundamental and there is hope that you will make your money back within a very short time. You can also read their prospectus before you make up your mind.

Good luck.

Brothers and sisters in the house,

I need help . I am at present sitting on money but I don't know which stock to buy with it.

The stocks I have in mind are doing free fall at present and I was seriously advised not to go near insurance coys now.

My plan is to turn this money around within 6 months and move on but now, no good stock to buy with the money.

Brethren, what should I do with the money?. Is there any new stock out there that one can watch closely and invest in later?. I need advice.

Peace.

I use UBA stockbrokers through their Non Resident Nigerian Program (UBA NRN), its def a good option if u live in the US, UK or Canada. I get very prompt responses to my email within mins and no more than 1 business day, matter of fact just got one to confirm that they received a request to purchase shares that I sent barely an hr ago.
Everything is accounted for, plus I like the fact thats its a 1 stop shop, bank acct and capital market. Plus I've access to other options like home mortgage loans and all that comes with the NRN program, takes me 2 days to send money to my bank acct using ubaremit, cheaper than western union plus it goes to my acct and not someone else's central acct.
Online portal isnt functional but should be in a few mths, e-banking is available, now i make transactions by issuing purchase/sell mandates to the UBA-US rep who is extremely efficient. 2 business days to buy/sell unless the stock is unavailable or very hard to get. Being a huge bank and because of the importance of the NRN section, they bend over backwards. I've canceled sell orders successfully as long as I do it within 1 business day.
Minimum to start is N250k
I like this one -stop -shop idea. How does your CSCS NUMBER look like when you registered with your present broker?. Is it numeric or alphanumeric and do they charge you money when you buy IPO/PO through them?. Let me know in your response.

Peace.

@ Gurus

I am torn between Bank PHB and Bagco. I like the positive energy coming from PHB ( their aggressive focus on growth, advertising and innovation will shoot them to the top). I also like Bagco because it is kind of a monopoly in Sack manufacturing ( if it retains its hold on market share over Dangote sacks) and their books have been cleaned to pay off profits so I know where I stand. Right now I am asking which one is the CLEAR 300% stock between both say by the end of 2009 ( I am a long termer). Wanajo, Pumping, Easimoni, Frankiriri, Temmie 10, Aktopgun, Fatherof2, anyone interested in replying please chip in on this,
I don't no if I qualify to answer your question with all the big names mentioned above but all the same I will like to tell you that the two offers (BANK PHB AND BAGCO PLC) are good and since you are "a long termer "as you put it, you should try to buy the two. There is light at the end of the tunnel for both of them.

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine just called me now to inform me that he registered with a broker just of recent and  through the broker he applied for CSCS# but the number which the broker sent to him was not alphanumeric but numeric.

I told him that this could be the broker's clearing house number but he said the broker told him that the number was correct.

To everyone in the house, is there any CSCS# that is not alphanumeric?. Please I urgently need answers to this question so as to know what to tell him.

Whats happening to this thread?

Its losing the serenity, smoothness and blend of ideas and information that has characterised it in recent times. I am not happy with this 25%,1%,bail out strategy, bear is going to eat u up by friday, the wise dog listens to the hunter's whistle etc. posts.Anybody else noticed it or i am the one that needs to check up myself?
I strongly agree with you, is as if the thread is gradually degenerating to another thing. This thread started as an educative centre for those who want to learn and those who are already dealing in stock business but  the aim is gradually being trampled upon by the way some members react to questions.

We can never be the same because there is always individual differences in virtually everything we do as human being so we should always endeavour to respect each others views and criticize constructively wheneven the need arises.

Attention!
Before you think of transferring funds, I must tell you that institutions in Nigeria must first see you, have (receive) signed paper forms from you before doing business. you may consider going to open accounts with continental banks like Zenith Bank, Gt bank (Best on line facilities) etc. Then open the stock account with a broker - IBTC assets management (Good on Online business and principles), FSDH (business experience), BGL (speed of execution), the list is endless. But you must first go to Nigeria to open the accounts and the accesses that will make your presence irrelevant.

Michael (FCA)
I strongly disagree with you that institutions in Nigeria must see you before you transfer funds.

Hi Guys,

You guys are great by going for UBA NRN. They have a lot of things but their charges are a bit on the high side.

You guys should go head and open the account but make sure you use you savings account more than current account.

I use UBA NRN for many things and their services are good. I was told that they will set up their on line services as per stock trading very soon.

I wish you guys well.

I think all the guru's on this thread (I don't have to mention names) should come together and publish a book on NSE.

The book should talk extensively on the act of trading in stock especially the cut and nail aspects of trading on the floor of the NSE(short term investment).

This idea may sound funny but I think it's possible.

Hi Pumping, Easimoni,RoughCut, Wanaj0 e.t.c.

A friend of mine just of recent changed his broker. Through his new broker, he has already applied for a new CSCS# but the number is not yet ready and he want to buy some shares from fidelity bank (IPO/PO)

This is the question:Can he use his  old CSCS # that he was using when he was with his former broker and use  the name of the new broker as his Stockbroker on his Ipo/po application forms?. What will be the implication of this action?.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

why do u think bedrock is a good fund?

i hope u don't mind my asking
Thank you for asking. If you read their (Cashcraft) prospectus carefully, you will realise that the fund will be invested in coys that are doing very well on the floor of the NSE and apart from this, the percentages set for the first three years by the fund manager are achievable. There are other points which I cannot remember now, I read their prospectus about a month ago.

Food for thought!!!

According to NSE DG on TV today, about 5 banks recently submitted application re. public offers and were told to hold fire for now till NSE seeks further clarification with the CBN re. the likely adverse effects of this avalanche of banks' POs on the economy etc

Besides, she opined that the banks are beginning to muscle-out the mfging companies etc from successful outing of their respective IPOs and that this has to be swiftly mitigated.

More importantly, the govt is beginning to seriously moan , ! And everyone seems to have serious reservation against banks coming back to the market the second/third time all within 3 years. Question is - what happenned to the 3 year biz plan they submitted in their then prospectus during their initial IPOs/POs (, coming back to the market wasn't part of the plan?? I tire o!!).

Anyway, let's see how the whole situation would unfold itself , This is Nigeria! We've heard all these before!!!
This is a welcome development. I strongly believe that the rate at which the banking sector is rushing back to raise money through IPOs/POs is gradually getting out of hands.

It's high time the regulatory bodies put a stop to this. They have succeeded in mopping up almost all the money in circulation and they are still yearning for more.

Nigerian economy can never develop without the manufacturing sector contributing tremendously and the manufacturing sector is the most important sector in every economy( every sector of the economy should run pari pasu).
The rate at which the banking sector is raising money, it will be very difficult for other sectors of the economy to develop. I think CBN and SEC just have to wake up and do something before it's too late.

jehosaphat:
Here is a direct quote from Windywendy herself( her majesty).
Bottom-line is: from an investment viewpoint, flour mills and bagco are one company, while dang flour and objana are two separate companies. What happens if objana gets squeezed for margins (assuming the ban on cement importation is lifted, for instance) and decides to turn around and squeeze suppliers like saks in order to keep up with debt covenant provisions (such as minimum required liquidity and profitability ratios) stipulated by the creditors from whom the company borrowed money?
This warrants another parable: If you are offered a white ostrich at N 80 for one and the same ostrich (painted black) for N 4 for one, same egglaying capability, same running speed for transportation to an fro, etc, which one you go collect??
Shine your eyes nairalanders,
jehosaphat:
TO all those interested in Bagco,
After reading a very insightful post by a very knowledgeable analyst (Windywendy) on SMN, I have decided Bagco is an excellent buy. I took the time to scour the web for every piece of info on the operations of Flourmills and Bagco in particular and I am convinced ( it is very evident) that Bagco is the MOST PROFITABLE subsidiary of Flourmill. At most, if her analysis is right then this Egg is backed by a very powerful chicken, which reinforces by decision to buy. If her analysis was not entirely correct with respect to Intra-company support among the various "children" of Flourmills ( what was Flourmills doing when Bagco was acquiring billions in debthuh??), then the profitability at least shows that Bagco is capable of churning out profits regardless of support from other arms. Sure enough PE might be 22x or thereabouts but that will correct itself when the dust has settled. I am buying with a long-term vision and I am sure that the prospectus will buttress my decision. Based on our analysis we rate this stock a "buy" " purchase" "buy" grin grin grin

Just for the heck of it, make i round my little business rant with proverb, " If you must kick somebody kick an old man because you know what he is, don't kick his child because you don't know what he will become".

I have faith in Bagco, this egg might hatch to be a mammal, grin grin grin grin grin.
Enjoy my peoples,
Like Jehosaphat of old, this is a good information. Keep up the good work.

Peace.
