Commercialised Masquerades too. Honouring ceremonies. Gladiatorial death matches featuring captured terrorists, Kidnappers and bandits. Stadiums would then find some use, not fall into disuse and eventually neglect.

You people need to decide if you are a capitalist nation or a communist one.

What you are suggesting here is what communist nations like North Korea, China and Russia do - using state funds on frivolous, prestige activities after cornering national finances.

That’s not the Nigerian system. This is a capitalist nation. In capitalist nations, these things you are saying are left to corporate and private entities to imagine and execute.

The people you should be blaming are the Dangotes and Otedolas and INNOSONs and other rich private sector operators for not investing in sports activities etc.

So because it is a public facility, things should be cheap? What is the point of running events if they do not cover costs? Events put exert pressure on facility and yet should not provide enough returns to maintain the place?

Tarawa Balewa Square in Onikan, Lagos is concessioned and well run. The facility is in excellent shape. It is weird

For your info, many organized events such as the swimming competitions you mentioned are usually heavily subsidized. The organizers most often are not dependent on gate fees but on their corporate sponsors. The organizers often have to spend massively to create aware, so you emphasis on cheap misses the reality. These events in the first place atent cheap to organize as you imagine since you demand cheap ticket

The stadium can also make enormous amounts of money if used for music shows. Imagine a sold out stadium for a Wizkid show.

It would it even make things worse, and make it less attractive for doing anything due to the higher costs the concessionaire will charge for activities there.

The stadium is a public facility. If you people cannot organise sporting activities there for next to nothing by way of fees, then you are hopeless and should stop complaining.

The facilities there are WORKING, including the velodrome.

What stops you from organising cycling contests in the velodrome?
