ThierryJay: She messed up. KSA even bowed for her in courtesy but she just stood upright and stretched her hand towards him like she was some Queen of England in utter disrespect of the legendary musician.
Meanwhile Wizkid went on full prostration for KSA when they met. That's someone who acknowledges the importance of respect to legends African style.
Many people here who cannot even attempt to stretch their hand to greet their grandfather at home will be supporting Ayra's disrespect towards a legendary grandfather KSA. So, it is okay for the ‘Queen of England’ to not bow or kneel down to Sunny Ade? Why? Because she is white? Is it not the same God who created your fcking Queen of England that created Ayra Starr? Stupid animals. Fck you all and your stupid idiocy. The girl did absolutely NOTHING WRONG. She is FREE to greet ANYONE however she sees fit, insofar as your FUC.KING Queen of England can do so. Stupid slaves. It is your obsession with hierarchy and status that leads to the very corruption, oppression and impunity, your stupid, thick heads moan about everyday. Blasted idiots. |

People here shouting Disney, Disney...meanwhile go to the Disneyworld Florida, and you'll be wondering what the whole hoopla is about.
Nothing so special about the place. It's even getting dated, and you queue for everything.
Abeg..... We can do a bigger, better, more modern version here.
But it must be a private sector - driven project, not govt.
Just like Disneyworld is private sector - owned, we need our own billionaires to establish stuff like that here.
Establish an Africanized version of it rather than just copying American Mickey Mouse and stuff. |

Male homosexuality is what is deemed particularly offensive and unacceptable by majority of Nigerians. Also, I’ve never seen a heterosexual man acting in a gay role, except perhaps as comedy, eg Eddie Murphy etc… I doubt the “he’s just acting” line will fly with Nigerians. |

Well, if Kanu is now saying this, then it is a good thing. The whole secession idea is just foolish and impractical at this point. Nigeria is One, and nobody is going anywhere. Our task is to devise ways to make the country work for everyone, by hook or by crook. Where are you running to? Meanwhile, I wonder what his Prime Minister in Finland thinks about this new ideological direction. Something tells me he would very angry with this development. Kanu had better watch his back in that prison. |

Litmus: Nigerians have been weaned on politics by Oppositional mammaries. It's a national pastime indulged by all, means or no means. Had there been such a thing, no stadium built for the olympics of politics would suffer neglect. Every seating government henceforth need to teach Nigerians how to play again. They could start by investing in national ceremonies, beginning with institutionalising some of our cultural ceremonies. A commercial Durbar could feature annually for the paying crowds. Commercialised Masquerades too. Honouring ceremonies. Gladiatorial death matches featuring captured terrorists, Kidnappers and bandits. Stadiums would then find some use, not fall into disuse and eventually neglect. You people need to decide if you are a capitalist nation or a communist one. What you are suggesting here is what communist nations like North Korea, China and Russia do - using state funds on frivolous, prestige activities after cornering national finances. That’s not the Nigerian system. This is a capitalist nation. In capitalist nations, these things you are saying are left to corporate and private entities to imagine and execute. The people you should be blaming are the Dangotes and Otedolas and INNOSONs and other rich private sector operators for not investing in sports activities etc. Govt has done it’s job by providing a $360 million stadium. USE IT! |

grandstar: I remember when I left Unilag and I and my partner had this brilliant idea that would help transform Lagos state. I was introduced to a politician who could assist us push it to the then governor, Bola Tinubu.
I spoke at length with that politician about the benefits of the project to the state but I observed he seemed uninterested.
Then I mentioned how he could benefit and his face lit up. At the end of the day,all he cared about was how he could benefit from the project rather than the gains to the state and masses.
Many foreign investors are frustrated by greedy officials who prevent them from coming in.
You're a fantasist. You know nothing about the country you live in. You think politicians or government officials care about the people they serve? I won't even be surprised if adequate subvention is provided by government for the upkeep of the stadium but it is instead diverted into private bank accounts through inflated and non-existing contracts.
So because it is a public facility, things should be cheap? What is the point of running events if they do not cover costs? Events put exert pressure on facility and yet should not provide enough returns to maintain the place?
Tarawa Balewa Square in Onikan, Lagos is concessioned and well run. The facility is in excellent shape. It is weird
For your info, many organized events such as the swimming competitions you mentioned are usually heavily subsidized. The organizers most often are not dependent on gate fees but on their corporate sponsors. The organizers often have to spend massively to create aware, so you emphasis on cheap misses the reality. These events in the first place atent cheap to organize as you imagine since you demand cheap ticket
The stadium can also make enormous amounts of money if used for music shows. Imagine a sold out stadium for a Wizkid show.
If the government has proven to be a bad manager, why retain it in their hands? Yeah, govt this, govt that You have made ZERO POINT. What is the REASON the stadium is under-utilised? There is NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STADIUM, and it is NOT the government’s job to organise sporting activities in the stadium. Or (Lord have mercy) music concerts for Wizkid. That is the job of the PRIVATE SECTOR, ie YOU. Do you see the US or British govt involved in sporting activities and keeping stadiums active? NO. It’s all private sector driven. So WHAT EXACTLY are you complaining about beyond using some stupid example of an alleged encounter with a govt official after your graduation? The government has done its job and built a befitting national stadium in Abuja. What is YOUR JOB if not to utilise it? I see nothing in your post but pure aimless prejudice and bigotry against the govt. If that stadium in Abuja is inactive, it has NOTHING to do with the govt. It is YOUR FAULT for being useless. |
Politics › Re: Sowore Lambasts Govt For Abandoning $360m Stadium In Abuja, Leaving It To Rot by Topman7: 3:26pm On Jan 24, 2024 |
grandstar: The sole purpose of that stadium was the settlement for those that brought OBJ to power. So, it seems
It has done its job. Let it rot.
On a more serious note, the government should concession it out. That would be the best policy. Garbage. What would concession do that cannot be done now, as far as sporting activities are concerned? It would it even make things worse, and make it less attractive for doing anything due to the higher costs the concessionaire will charge for activities there. The stadium is a public facility. If you people cannot organise sporting activities there for next to nothing by way of fees, then you are hopeless and should stop complaining. The facilities there are WORKING, including the velodrome. What stops you from organising cycling contests in the velodrome? Nothing! Or swimming competitions? Nothing! Every day “govt this, govt that”. |
