NaijaRoyalty: A micro loan company has been accused of declaring defaulters dead, designing and circulating the obituaries of such persons to family and friends.
A customer, Azuwuike Chinedu Achiever recently shared his experience with the loan company on social media.
He said he had defaulted in his repayment plan for five days and the next thing he saw was his obituary.
On a public group on Facebook, another customer of a loan app, Victoria Eyo Ekpo revealed she was also a victim and vowed not to repay the loan.
She said, “This is what Deloan (app) sent to me oooo. I will never pay. They called my mum and insulted her. May God help us.” (sic).
Ekpo added that she borrowed the sum of N15,000.
When PUNCH Online spoke with one of the contact persons of Deloans, who the Truecaller app identified as ‘Scammer,’ he denied ever doing that.
The contact person, who simply identified himself as Somto “How can I do something like that? Am I not a human being?”
Pressed further, he said he doesn’t have the authority to speak on the matter and that our reporter would need to speak to his bosses before abruptly ending the call.
Further calls to his line went unanswered.
Meanwhile, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera, has said that the regulators in the financial system are collaborating to address what is fast becoming a dominant and abusive practice targeting some of the most vulnerable in the society.
Irukera said, “In November (2021), the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission hosted a meeting attended by the chief executive officer of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, and representatives of the National Information Technology Development Agency and the Central Bank of Nigeria; in leading an effort to address multiple potentially dubious conduct of certain money lenders, otherwise known as loan sharks.
“Continuing complaints about questionable repayment enforcement practices including public shaming and violations of privacy, arbitrary, unjust, unreasonable, or exploitative interest rates and or loan balances calculations, harassment, and failure of consumer feedback mechanisms among others have led to significant and understandable consumer aggravation and dissatisfaction.”
its greed to collect money you can't pay back. Its even wickedness. These loan companies have things to run and when 60 of you don't pay back they go into debt. You people go to loan companies because the banks you even bank with won't give you a loan. If you can't pay don't collect. If you are broke please go and sweep the streets for money or go and do bus conductor work

I had reached out to them to tell them that things were not going well, only for me to start receiving threats oh. They even called me a fraudster.. Well i paid them the loan, but i refused to pay them the extra charges. They are calling me to them the extra charges, i just ignored them.. I will pay them, but make i stress them small.
you broke people know how to collect loans above your means but can't pay back. Its always easy and sweet to collect but when you don't pay back its hard and bitter for the companies involved. If 50 nigerians take loans and don't pay these companies will run into debt. If you don't have money go do conductor and stop punching above your weight

Crenzywilliams: I thought these loan companies usually do a picture confirmation to know if it's the same person with the bvn that's initiating the loan. I also know that no loan companies will loan you such an amount as a first time borrower (well unless they have changed since I left 9ja). I thought they usually start with small loans like 5k or 3k, if you're able to pay back in time, they increases ur credit rating. If u've been borrowing before, then they didn't use ur bvn to open the loan accounts man, and in that case the loan company will also need a live picture from them for confirmation. Besides if it wasn't ur first time receiving money from them the money should go straight to your bank account, no loan company will use ur bvn and then send the money to an account with another name, and if it's to your account, how did the thieves get ur transfer codes,...dude, what's the real story man?
this person is telling lies so as not to pay the loan. No loan company gives 57k for someone applying for the first time. They only increase the loan amount over time. I don't know why this person is coming up with these lies but oh well. They take loans they can't pay back then come to nairaland to make false stories

Once you collect loan from the app, they will make sure you are unable to pay on due date and start calling you to make transfer to their account. After payment, your loan wont be cleared and you will be debited several times without end. Also, if you dont keep funds in the account, they will start blackmailing you, sending unsolicited messages to your contacts telling them you owe them just to scare you to keep paying them. These guys should be investigated and arrested by efcc. Nigeria is hard enough, these guys shouldn't be allowed to exist. He came to my POS center claiming his wife is in labor... and that he lives very close by, We gave him our account number for transfer of 30k, he said he has transferred the money, we didn't get any alert but he said the wife's water has broken,
we even saw the woman in the car, because of the rush we got his number and decided to give him the money not knowing he was 419. His not picking my calls anymore.

He needed to help his childhood friend who was in dire need of money, hence He sold his bitcoin to one Bitcoinlord_exchanges on Instagram The person interacted with him and he got deceived with the high rate the person was offering.after the Bitcoin was sent . The account blocked my brother and never credited him his money. We have used various accounts to reach out to the handle @Bitcoinlord_exchanges But he blocks us as well. Not been happy cos such amount is huge. I really blame my brother for falling for such cheap scam . I have been angry myself at how he fell for it. When he could have just gone with verified account or sold face to face.For such transaction a trusted dealer should be the one u deal with . For all we know the Instagram is a fake page . And the owner is just out there to scam people.
