I disagree with your second point about buying gifts for the relations. Personally if a girl is not liked by my family especially my mum and sister's then that girl has a cause to worry because family has an influence in your life and relationship no matter how small that influence might be.

My friend got married last week,he had 3 girls to choose who will be his wife, when I asked him why he choose that girl particularly even when he had a medical doctor whose dad is a king amongst the 3 girls to choose from?. His reply was that she had worked her way into the hearts of all his family members so they didn't recognise anyother girl besides her.

Point is getting close to your man's family is very important,even if it means buying gifts and bribing them to like you then do so.
