As someone commented on channels website... I would have thought supplies of essential groceries would be prioritised since there is lockdown. Bundles of cash when government is supposedly driving a cashless society. This government is truly a disgrace.

What is the criteria for selection and who supervises?
Accountability and transparency measures in place?

Wallade:
Did you just ask if Federal Government(FG) handled this Covid 19 matter appropriately?

The answer from me is "No, FG didn't handle it appropriately".

As much as I don't want to dwell on the past, I must say that the first major miss was the inability of the FG, upon discovery of the index case (Italian man) in Nigeria, to stop all international flights in and out of Nigeria and simultaneously restrict border movements and enabling effective testing at border gates for people who must exit and enter Nigeria.

That is the reason we are in this mess so it is annoying and insensitive to have you put up this topic and try to justify FG actions with the body of your topic. I am more alarmed because you seem to be one of the e-rats on the employment of APC. How much do you guys get paid these days?
Lmaooo cheesy It's still the same 30k and by the time you factor in inflation that would work out to about 20k

Surgical face-masks used to cost about N13 before Coronavirus. It would cost less than N260m to make enough face-masks for every Lagosian.
It definitely would cost more than N13 now considering the demand has gone up. There is also the question of availability, again related to demand.

Also, these are not one use items as they need to be disposed and new ones purchased. So that conservative N260m estimate would have to be recurring. Simply not feasible.

Pls we need to provide protective equipment to everyone, not just health workers. If we don't get sick, doctors won't have to risk their lives for us.
It's not feasible to provide PPE to everyone. By the way, who should pay for it?

What specific action has Buhari taken that he should be given kudos for?

His action of not implementing the travel ban on time is why we are where we are now. So he should be castigated. Kudos indeed. undecided

No comparison. No level for Nigeria to compare.

A place where Buhari is wishing they can lift their BAN, so that he can run to get there first. If not for coronavirus, he would have been there by now, either staring or halfway of a 2 month vacation and hospital stay.

How can you compare such a leader with the president of a country, that Buhari wishes he was an ordinary citizen of.
Exactly

Nigeria's current low rate can not and should not be attributed to government being PROACTIVE. If they were proactive, they would have put a travel ban in place much sooner.

Sowore is funny. He refused to say nothing about America where he lives and make his living but focus on Nigeria for political gain from the pain people are going through.

America now carry more viral load than even China

America doesn't have enough testing kit and ventilator

Trump refused to take action always downplaying the severity of the virus

Deaths including that of infants is occurring daily in all the 50 States of America.

Whichever way we look at it, Nigeria had managed this well with no death of locals. Death recorded was of a returned.

Even the Italian man was treated and discharged.

Sowore if you continue this way, you remain a tool used by the enemies of Nigerian masses to deceive and at the you will pay dearly for it.
He is a NIGERIAN in case you missed the memo.

As for the rest of the crap you wrote, I can see others have addressed it already, no point wasting energy. One day soon, I hope people like you will go to the market and buy some SENSE.

And that is exactly what is happening. Every contact is being traced and tested. (And I did say so earlier)

They have very very likely all been traced and tested. (I work in the health sector. My working place has already seen a suspected covid19 case that turned out(thankfully) to be negative, so I have reason to pay attention)
Until that is proven, I choose to assume otherwise. Lagos is making great strides in putting infrastructure in place but we are not seeing the same level of commitment from other state governments. And that is exactly my point, all those folks at that Northern wedding Kyari and his counterparts attended NEED to be traced and tested from the richest to the poorest.
PoliticsRe: Sanusi Lamido Tests Negative For Coronavirus, Bars Visitors by tot(f): 6:00pm On Mar 29, 2020
kikero:
For now, Nigeria does not have the resources to test 'everyone' , so we test suspected cases who meet the case definition, then their contacts., and increasingly people who have returned from a flight from an affected country.

That they are mostly rich is more of a coincidence than anything else.

In countries with Ebola outbreaks, a large percentage of those tested are poor...because Ebola outbreaks are rural, and thus affect the poor disproportionately. COVID 19 arrived in Nigeria 'by jet plane' and a good proportion of people who fly by plane in and out of this country are...the elite. So most people tested are....you guessed it...the elite and their contacts.

The NCDC and NIMR are trying to get more test centers set up.NIMR is offering free testing in Lagos from tomorrow morning.
Kindly stop trying to twist my words. I said EVERYONE who is a CONTACT of a confirmed case. Obviously, everyone cannot be tested whether Nigeria or anywhere else as it's simply not feasible.

Did you see the picture of all the folks at the wedding Kyari and the Bauchi governor were? Have all those people been tested? Or simply because they are not influential or rich, they do not give a hoot about those ones?

The government are gradually having total authority over us, and I know one thing, the government has not really cared about us, they just make it seems so through the help of most media/news outlet (all work for the government).

Coronavirus is a great advantage for them and they want to make us believe its affecting them greatly. Most celebrities work for the government as well. By the time when we wake up, things will have gotten out of hands.

There is currently an imam on twitter with a verified account who constantly makes the world to believe our leader is a terrorist, that's putting us(Nigeria) on the top terrorist radar.

Think, Think out of the box. Gradually Army might take over all in the name of coronavirus.

Just think ahead and don't get distracted. You have a soul.

Everyone that is a contact of a confirmed case should be given a fair chance at testing.

Testing should not be reserved for just elites and politicians.

People will conveniently turn a blind eye to this simply because they want to bash their country and place western countries on a pedestal.

I am no fan of this government and their not placing travel bans on time HOWEVER the level of response by some state governments particularly Lagos together with the private sector like GTbank has been impressive. Even the NCDC has done a great job with communications, but trust people to sha run them down.

Foreign AffairsRe: Thomas Schäfe Commits Suicide Over Recession Caused By Coronavirus by tot(f): 4:09pm On Mar 29, 2020
seunmsg:
In Nigeria, nobody is thinking about the impact of the Coronavirus on the economy. The price of crude oil has crashed so badly and even at that, countries are still not buying. Our fragile internal economy is now under the strain of a partial lockdown. If the lockdown is sustained for a long period, how will people survive? What will happen to our local economy?

Yesterday, Tinubu attempted to profer a solution by advising government to quickly print more Naira in the interim so as to provide social security to the population and sustain the local economy till the crisis is over. Instead of debating the merit and demerit of his suggestion, people who don’t understand how the virus will affect our economy descended on him and accused him of looking for more money to steal. Some quack errconomist even opined that Nigeria will become Zimbabwe overnight.

Whatever the case, this is the time to start thinking of how to rescue the country from the economic recession that is staring at us in the face. If we all keep pretending that all is well, the recession that will hit us in the next few weeks is already doing press up. And this time around, it will be worse than the last one because it would be a global recession.
What stops YOU from debating the merits and demerits of the proposal?

The reason Nigeria would be worse hit compared to other economies is because we never had a sound economy in the first place, thanks to all kinds of nepotistic appointments from your oga at the top, square pegs in round holes making incompetent decisions, so abeg face that.
