The labour union should sue the government. How much are the polithiefians cutting from their pay.

Government is about the people and not the other way round.

Las Las na one thief go still dey thief the money.
Exactly.
People do not benefit from the government on a good day, now the government wants to benefit from them! Rubbish.

Also walk in the shoes of people who have not made a dime in 1 month because they're shuttered in.

If you're asking them to stay home without respite for the next 30 days for public health reasons, it is your civic responsibility to make sacrifices as well. No be only the bottom 50% go make sacrifices for us, we also have to make sacrifices for them.

This should be a federal policy and should apply to every worker and business man in the country with take-home pay or revenue of above 60k.

It's either that, or they lift the lock down. You dey see 75% of your income at home; you dey grumble. The ones wen never see pim since the lock down start, wetin dem go do?

-Lord
Disagree with that.

My issue is not that the needy are not to be catered for, my issue is where that should come from. Especially in a country where people are already suffering from bad governance - bad healthcare, bad roads, no light. Now you are asking them to make sacrifices? Have they not made enough? The govt should sort itself out and leave the people out of it.

A lot of companies have put a freeze on hiring. This is the time for people to focus on digital skills (not yahoo oh!). Referring to app development, programming, social media marketing etc.

That is chasing a lost cause cheesy

Every Nigerian politician dead or alive or even retired would have to give away 90% of their wealth.

And it would be a long legal battle too, people would have died before then.

Let's just hope that they don't loot the money they are generating now.
You and I know that is asking for the impossible! cheesy

Anyway, it is their headache, govt should sort itself out and stop tasking already suffering citizens.

The fact is that the government cannot afford to do it. Learning from those getting it right does not mean jumping from 0 to 100. whatever you see happening in the west today, was built 100 years ago! A strong democracy and a strong economy were built up while we were still in colonization. We cannot simply emulate them just like that! Is this not obvious?

We need african-made solutions to peculiar challenges. That does not mean that there are no things to complain about, but this one is not it. Not today.
Say that to Singapore. Say that to India.

Anyway, I am done with this conversation please. Thank you.

Even if they refuse to loot again! The government doesn't have enough money to feed 200 million people with Almost 80% of the population already living in poverty before economic activities were shut.

The Western world have important safely nets and majority of the working population pay direct taxes. And in the case of America, they can just raise the debt limit and print more money.

Here in Nigeria, the government depends on crude oil sales which has nose dived and economic activities are dead as a result of the lock down, So no taxes.

Thus, how exactly do you want the government to raise money?
They should simply revert to their previous loots, very simple. It is on this same NL we've read of recoveries running into millions and billions. Here is the time for EFCC to show those are real figures ehn. No citizen should be made to pay the price of an irresponsible thieving govt.

Rent, feeding, generator, transport, clothes, school fees. Kai. This country has a looooooooooooooooong way to go. I am done.

We can't compare ourselves to them because we do not have the resources they do. Is that not obvious? Now let me ask you these two questions:

1. Can Nigeria afford to pay every household a minimum of 1k dollars as is done in the US and Canada? Can we?

2. What is your plan for the needy?
Okay now, let us continue to justify whatever crap the govt offers and refuse to learn from those getting it right "because we do not have the resources they do". The same govt where individuals loot millions and billions is not penalizing citizens. Why should the citizens be the ones to cater for the needy?

Point out this obvious fact now, some will jump on your comment to say you are criticizing. Nigerians and mediocrity ehn. How on earth can Nigeria have tested less than 1% of its populace for goodness sake?!

I have argued here that Nigeria doesn't have the money to enforce a lock down

But if majority of "Educated Nigerians" including the civil and public servants believe the lock down is the best way to go.

Then the government must come up with the money from somewhere to support the poor people.
How about they come up with the money from the millions they've looted? Nigerians that are already getting a bad deal from the govt is who they should be taxing? No constant light, High food prices and now a pay cut. Great, continue the support. The chicken always comes to roost eventually.

Every country manages their own in a unique way my dear. I just can't understand why so many of you cannot process and analyse information without supporting your argument on the basis of "look at what XYZ country is doing". Are the circumstances the same? You want to compare Nigeria to the countries that provide aid to Nigeria. Is there a basis for such comparison?? Are you telling me that you are so selfish that you can't contemplate a 25% temporary cut that will be used to feed the poor??
Why on earth can you not compare yourself to those getting it right? The same countries your leaders run to for healthcare and what not. Anyway, let us continue excusing mediocrity, everyone will suffer it.

If you are not one of those impacted, you have no right to justify it. Easy to say others should take a 25% cut cos it doesn't impact you. So anyone who earns about 67k is rich? Na wa.

My sister, read the post well before you complain. The man is after political appointees and senior staff. He made it mandatory for all political appointees to contribute #500k each and from henceforth forfeit 50% percent of their salaries.
Senior public servant whose net pay after tax is 67,000 must also contribute 25% of their salary. To me, this is fair. No one who collects less than 67000 will be affected.
Can I ask you a question, are you one of those impacted? It's easy to say something is fair until you are the one impacted. Why should it be made mandatory for people to contribute anything?

What of cost of transportation which often covers 25% of expenses on wages

Besides, Feeding at work is more expensive as most of them have to buy food from food vendors

Regardless, Government has to raise money to feed the population from somewhere.

Most private companies are laying off workers or reducing workers salary by 70%
Nigerians truly deserve the leaders they get. Imagine justifying this.

Other countries are furloughing employees and supporting businesses with grants. Go and read up on how other governments across the world are supporting their citizens, furloughing in the UK etc.

This is the best decision yet as long as it involves the governors salary as well

The workers are also staying at home and bear no cost of transportation or feeding at work for the salary they earn.

I hope government officials in Kaduna put the money into good use.
Best decision?! Wow.

They will be feeding at home. Kids at home would be eating more as well. Prices have also gone up.

And we all know governors have several avenues to pocket money so 25% salary cut has no impact on them.

I guess You mean to say the Rich in Nigeria looted their money? not that they worked for it.

All our ex politicians who looted, retired and now eating our patrimony also worked for their money right.

contractors who inflated figures in contract or collected money and never executed the jobs also worked for their money right

less than 0.000001 percent of wealthy Nigerians got their money through their sweat.

others have a link to the government and its our money.

Mind you, i am not exempted because i have done contracts for governments in the past and thats what established me.

I cant say i am totally clean
It's fine to speak for yourself but you can't generalize. There are legitimate business men and women. There are highly paid employees. People with grievances should face the government and not people who have nothing to do with the situation.
