sweetrace:
The post I read says people had Gathered at the toll gate to protest the issue of SARS.
1. The issue of SARS has been resolved, so what is the point of the gathering?
2. The protesters should move on to something else. Since the venue of the protest is at the toll gates in Lekki, they might as well protest against the existence of that.
3. The initial protest of the toll gate was lukewarm with a small turnout. This is a good opportunity.
The issue of SARS is not fully resolved yet... It's been banned in the past and nothing changed - but I get your point now about the momentum being channelled to other issues like the toll at that particular location.

sad Even though I'm a born again Christian, I'm very sad about the insecurity the disbandment of SARS will resort to. Majority of we southern Christians that spearheaded the end SARS campaign seems to be ungrateful of the hard works of the security agents down south. These are guys who are willing to lay down their lives to confront Armed robbers, kidnappers and other violent criminals yet we keep protesting for their ban because we sleep in peace.

Unlike our northern Muslim brothers who have been unfortunate to witness banditry, terrorism and massive kidnapping we are enjoying down south yet we clamour for end SARS because of the actions of few bad officers. Even American police have bad officers but are Americans calling for their ban? I'm so disappointed in the actions of we Christians. May God forgive us for we don't seem to know what we are doing sad

You broke your wife's trust by decieving and bleeping another lady outside your union. You disrespected and utterly disregarded all your sacred vows to her as a husband. You went all the way to fabricate unneccesary lies just to bleep a kpekus even when you had a special and legit one. Bros! You deserve all you got, you were not betrayed oo, it was just karma flipping your deceitful coin back at you.
As in, I read that comment and just shook my head. A cheat complaining about karma, lol. Irony.

How do you know I was not one of the few people that came out to protest the hike in the toll a while back at the Lekki/ Ikoyi bridge? The turn out was ridiculously low, yet we all pay the toll.
I don't even get the logic. How does toll relate to SARS? One affects people across the different states and has led to loss of lives, the other is located in a single state. These are 2 different issues.

I used to say the same until I missed my flight from Lagos to Asaba and decided to fly to Benin and taxi to Asaba. Landed safely in Benin and took an airport taxi, withdrew some cash to settle the cab guy and we moved. On ascending that slope as we were leaving Benin, we met SARS and they searched us. Saw the cash with me - 30k in total(15k for the cab guy, 15k for me) - they insisted I must divide the money in two and give them half. I asked them " why should I give you the money when I have not committed any offence?". They said "we would keep searching your bag until we find something". Mind you, my bag went through more than one scanning machines at Lagos airport.

Those guys searched my bag for more than 7 rounds, still nothing. We were there for more than an hour. They kept insisting that I gave them the money they asked for. They looked nothing like policemen - just their guns with a jacket written 'F-SARS". Heavily bearded guys with tattoos and big biceps. Their vehicle with no reg number was hidden in the bush off the road. The cab guy begged me after pleading with them severally and showing them his airport taxi association identification - to give them the money because it was getting late and that those people could kill both of us and throw us into that river with nobody knowing once it got dark. I had to tow the path of reasoning with the cab guy and gave them the money.

It was then that one of them said to me " you are lucky you cooperated, na for that river fish for chop una body". I had cold chills on hearing that.

I am a legit cooperate hustler. That trip was a company business trip. I had all my means of identification - drivers' license, voter's card(orginal copy), International passport and company ID's, HMO and induction cards. All authentic.
Just imagine.

Lol. Derailing threads indeed. More important matters at hand? What's more important than majority of people from a section of the country seeing nothing wrong with this callous, insensitive, myopic, nepotic and clueless govt? What are the important matters at hand that is not due to this govt? Bad economy, insecurity, corruption, etc. Yet, majority of your people still see nothing wrong with the govt.
Maybe where you are they see nothing wrong, cos clearly almost all the comments and threads today have made mention of the government's ineptitude.

For once, people have united to speak out against this govt starting with SARS, don't bring up tribalism to divide things. Abeg. Let's focus.

Is it the truth? Yes or no? Is it not true that some people from the SW rejoices on the internet when this govt arrests and kill unarmed IPOB members but says nothing when Buhari releases so called repentant Boko haram members?

I'm not igbo but not everything is tribalism. It's just plain truth. If you want to look at it from the prism of tribalism, good for you.
What is the truth there? That some people were rejoicing now means he should make conclusions for an entire region? There is no benefit whatsoever from tribalism so people should sort out their issues and stop derailing threads. We have more important matters at hand.

I never said people shouldn’t have done anything.....we complained that sars should end...
but the police still shot at us.... so what do we do now... clamour for “end police”...I’m just saying we forgot that SARS and police and the people.. one and same unit..

Imthe protest was amazing, we could have channeled it better.... the goverment and police force can play us easily by saying sars has been disbanded.. but really nothing has happened internally..
One of the most significant outcome of these protests is not so much the endSARs but the fact that people for once spoke with one voice and I know this is just the start of more to come. That should be respected. They didn't shout for nothing.

I’m not picking holes in the actions of Nigerians ...I’m just saying the goverment is playing us....

Since sars and police are the same persons..My solution is that we should have asked for reforms.

Any police that kill Nigerian citizen should be tried as a civilian and sentenced to death for murdEr.

All police men should have at least audio recording device on them.for review of service and law of engagement...these things don’t cost much.... it’s curruption.. the government claim they spend than 500k to gear up one police man...they should be able to attach a recording device on each uniform for quality assurance

Stop and search police should stop carrying gun, just like traffic police don’t carry weapons

For once they should increase these people’s salary.. u can’t give someone a Kalashnikov rifle and be paying them as low as 30k....the rippling effect is what is happening....greed + bad economy is a recipe for disaster.

If they can’t allow free education and medical facilities for all, these people should be taken cared of.... oyinbo wey dey pay unemployment benefit, underage benefit, old age benefit, free education and healthcare knows the rippling effect...
Correct.
Which is why this is STEP 1.

But saying people should have done nothing is what I disagree with.

It doesn't have to be a free-for-all: the FG can still step in to uphold the rule of law, in keeping with constitutional norms (as defined by the Supreme Court). Just look at how the American government handled all the segregationist southern sheriffs in the 1960s, for an example of how federal intervention ought to work when local forces fail to uphold basic norms of fairness. It is at such times when having a National Guard and a Nigerian equivalent to the FBI could be brought in (on a temporary, strictly time-limited basis) to set things back on the right path.

Right now, with Nigeria's highly-centralised policing, the entirety of the country is one big Birmingham, Alabama, with IGP Adamu being a national Bull Connor answerable only to a single person - Buhari.
Clear. Makes sense.
