Olalekan Adetayo: Before vice president Osinbajo, the workaholic, breaks down

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is no doubt hard working. He looks very energetic. Even his stature speaks volume of him. He carries that frame swiftly any time he is trekking from his end of the Villa to the President’s office and he does that very often. He shares that stature with the likes of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and probably Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State. Without sounding immodest, I also belong to their association. El-Rufai has whispered to me and some other colleagues belonging to that group that the Vice President is our patron. I won’t disclose the name of the association, but by our stature, you shall know us.

I am not a medical doctor but having watched activities in the Villa closely since he and President Muhammadu Buhari moved into the seat of power, I will advise that Osinbajo should slow down. His activities so far have not left anybody in doubt that he is a workaholic. He resumes very early in the morning and remains in his office till late in the night almost daily.

Osinbajo has been going round the states of the federation from the North to the South on behalf of his boss. There are times he makes two or three states in a day! He has also made many foreign trips on behalf of the President. His attitude to work has become a subject of discussions, though in hushed tones, among members of his staff, most of who believe that they are being overstretched.

For instance, a day to the opening of the presidential retreat organised for ministers last month, I was reliably informed that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria was in his office till about 2am preparing the paper he presented at the event. This notwithstanding, Osinbajo arrived the venue with the President at exactly 9am. I wonder whether he slept at all.

As if that is not enough, Osinbajo sat through the programme while Buhari left shortly after declaring the event open. The Vice President returned to his office after the event and started treating files that he could not treat while at the venue. By 9am the following day, he was already in the old Banquet Hall venue to preside over the activities of the second day.

Penultimate Wednesday, he was in Ikenne, Ogun State where he hosted the President and other well-meaning Nigerians at the burial of the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief HID Awolowo. He played a leading role in the burial because his wife, Dolapo, is a grand-daughter of the deceased

Surprisingly however, Osinbajo was again on hand later in the day when Buhari hosted Senators to a presidential dinner at the new Banquet Hall. He had managed to freshen up and change his clothe before attending the event. Many of his close aides were looking very tired. “The work must be done” was the reply of one of them when I told him that I did not expect that Osinbajo would attend the event.

On Tuesday, he started his activities by taking part in the 2015 National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Summit held inside the Villa. Shortly after that, he played host to a delegation of Global Good Fund co-founded by Bill Gates in his conference room. While those guests were still finding their way out after the meeting, Osinbajo’s convoy was already leaving the Villa. He left for Yenagoa, Bayelsa State where he represented Buhari at the grand finale of the campaign of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Timipreye Sylvia. Another task that the Vice President has been carrying out dutifully is that he has always been on hand at the airport to receive his boss whenever he is returning from any foreign trip.

One other thing that has been glaring since he took over is that the Vice President, who is a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has also ensured that state duties do not affect his spiritual life. He still attends the monthly vigil that holds in the church’s camp located on the popular Lagos-Ibadan Expressway every first Friday of the month. His workers even told me that he still attends evening services such as Bible Study (Digging Deep as it is called in RCCG) and Prayer Meetings in one of the parishes in Abuja and still return to his office late in the night to continue work.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not in any way suggesting that Osinbajo should abandon state duties. Far from it. I am also not suggesting that he should jettison his God. I am only advising that the Vice President must avoid breaking down. I know that as a religious person, if he is reading this, he may be uttering words such as “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” or “I shall not die but live, to declare the glory of God in the land of the living.” Let me make it clear that I am not wishing him any evil before he will scream “Back to sender!”

There are claims that many top government officials take some forms of performance-induced drugs or drinks to keep them going when work becomes tough. Because of his religious background however, I don’t see Osinbajo indulging in such. Rather, I see him relying on “the grace of God.” He should therefore not stretch the grace beyond limit. Nigeria cannot afford any sick leader for now, judging from our recent past. My candid advice please.

Op, please pardon me, as I give you a little background to 'church wedding' in Nigeria, after which I will answer your question.

First of all, in Nigeria, there are three types of marriages recognised BY LAW. They are: customary, court, and then, Islamic marriage.

Now, what we call 'church wedding' is actually the court marriage properly so called. However, this is in instances where the church issues the marriage certificate of the Federal republic of nigeria to the couple, which is the same certificate those who wed in court/registry are given. Where the church doesn't issue this, it cannot be equated with 'court marriage'. Me thinks we can call this one 'church celebration/blessing' simpli cita.

Just to clarify the above, only churches licensed by the government to conduct marriages are allowed to issue those certificates. . However, if the church is not licenced, it will not be able to so issue. In this case, the 'church wedding' would simply be a gathering to celebrate with the new couple, and then, an opportunity to be blessed by a Minister and the church as a whole. Another instance where this certificate will not be given in church, is where in addition to 'wedding' there, the couple goes to court/registry to wed. In this instance, the court/registry will be doing the Issuing.

Now, flowing from the above:

Que: is it unscriptural for a couple to decide to do the church wedding in a licenced church,and obtain their FRN marriage certificate from same, in accordance to the law of the land?

Answer: NO. Infact, Scriptures abound enjoining Christians to obey the law of the land and 'church wedding' qua 'court marriage' in this instance is the law of the land called Nigeria.

Que: In a situation where the FRN marriage certificate is not issued in the 'Church wedding', would the 'wedding' still be scriptural?

Answer: YES. The bible also enjoins Christians to rejoice with them that rejoice. So, yes, all the gele- tying and suiting up, the excitement that goes with the church wedding is very scriptural, with or without the certificate being obtained there. Moreso, it's an opportunity to be blessed by the church! Ain't nothing wrong with that, is there?

Lastly, I would just like to remind christians that the basis of Christianity isn't these things that go to no issue, cos every time I see threads like this, I feel bad that the we are leaving issues like our standing with God, to argue about mundane things. Let's focus on what is important.

My story is so touching.. It bring tears to close ones around. Epilepsy is a scourge, a disability that will likely take away your self esteem and even your life if you are not careful.

Once I get my footing, I will spend my life helping people passing through this stigma and ofcourse talk about my loving Jesus.

I am that brillant fellow in the engineering faculty people know about as being witty and to himself. Good looking but relationship issues is far from his side (despite not been too close to God then).. Did well in school, was on scholarship.

Went further for an MSc in the states then the seizure kicked in. Note that the seizure never attacked me doing my undergrad except for some disorder or migrane.. I almost did not complete my Msc cos of the seizure. I have thought about the fastest/painless poison killer but anytime that thought comes my mum face shows up.

I was even ready to make hell but the love of God has for me is so immeasurable. I have watched friends gave up on me. Relationship gone down the drain. Hope lost.

Oh my heart bleeds just recalling having those episode. At times it can be twice a week. Was this it I asked?

I hated life. I cursed myself and wept bitterly on my pillow every night.

My memory was going numb. My academics was shaking. My thesis prof broke my heart when he said " my effort induce sympathy" so as to accredit my research.

Oh, how did I stoop so low? How did I lose life dignity?

It is a year back and I still feel it as though it was yesterday. If not for Jesus, I would have taking my life like a childhood friend. I am not better than him but christ just love me.

Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State may on Thursday approach the Federal High Court in Lokoja to challenge the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election in Kogi State on December 5.

Wada in suit to be filed on his behalf by his lawyers argued that INEC erred by saying that it would go ahead with the supplementary election despite the death of Abubakar Audu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 21 governorship election

Wada contended that what the electoral body is saying with its decision to conduct the supplementary election is that the votes cast for the late Audu were still valid in death.

Audu died on Sunday, a few hours after the commission declared the November 21 governorship poll in the state inconclusive.

The deceased had polled 240,867 votes in the election while Wada scored 199 514 votes, leaving a gap of 41,353 votes between the two leading candidates in the election.

INEC had declared the election inconclusive on the grounds that cancelled votes or registered voters in the 91 polling units, where the exercise did not take place were 49 953, a figure higher than Audu’s lead of 41,353 votes.

Wada is therefore praying the court to declare him winner on the claim that he is the candidate with the highest number of votes alive.

According to sources privy to the court action, Wada is arguing that the difference in votes between him and Philip Salawu, the Labour Party candidate is more than 49 000 and as such there should be no supplementary election.

Wada, it was further gathered, argued that INEC would not have considered a supplementary or a re-run election had it been that it was the candidate that took third or fourth that died.

Free medical examination is different from free treatment... The post also made us understand that drugs are not being dispensed yet because the pharmaceutical arm of the hospital is not yet functional.... So where does the treatment come from. Medical examination is different from treatment.
I believe the government has a proper plan on sustaining the hospital. In the whole, this is a laudable idea. Kudos to whoever conceive and conceptualize the idea to reality.

It is not safe to meet morally bankrupt guys in secluded environments, particularly their apartments. If he tried that in public you would have been free to slap him and maybe even report him to the police because there would have been witnesses. Just move on and stop meeting him or other guys in their houses or other secluded environments. Never allow yourself to be alone with that guy again, for any reason, or else. Also, make sure you tell many people what he did so if something worse happens in the future they will believe you. This advice may sound paranoid but it's worth it.

# Leaders should learn to be ahead of his subordinate in vision. What makes you a leader is because ur subordinates believe you have something to offer.

# leaders should learn to delegate duties to their followers. This will help them to be leaders in their right. Sometimes, allow them to make mistakes and teach them how to avoid such in future.

# Leaders should learn to overlook pardonable errors from their subordinates. No one is immuned against error. It is part of learning on the job.

Even though I like your analysis but I beg to disagree. The Hiv prevalence rate observed in rivers has never been this bad for a long time in Nigeria. Taraba being the second is another baffling case. Though both States have always been at the top rankings in this regard.
Now back to your analysis... For every 1m persons in rivers, 152k has hiv , so for 5m,you get as much as 760k.Now tell me how that rank with 324k that you calculated. There should be a special intervention on those states with so high prevalence rates... Those figures are just pretty high...
My state is just reasonably safe. Don't ask which state.... Fountain of knowledge.
