EducationUniversity Of Ilorin Made History Today by Tourshaw(op): 10:15pm On Nov 18, 2024
Unilorin became the first and the only federal university in Nigeria to have an anatomage table in their department of Anatomy.

Anatomage table is an advanced 3D technology designed for teaching anatomy to medical students and for research. Omo, the table is over 100 million naira. One table o🤦‍♂️

The multimillion gadget was actually donated to the department of Anatomy by the 1984 MBBS set. That's so very thoughtful of them. Now, cadavers can rest in peace.

Why spent over 100m to get anatomage table? The Provost of the college answered that it's a great investment in our medical education because Unilorin is in Muslim community where they bury their dead ones almost immediately. So, getting dead bodies is an Herculean task for dissection and histological studies. This is why it's a huge investment. Department of Anatomy, University of Ilorin is now the most well equipped department of Anatomy in all the federal universities in Nigeria.

The VC came down himself to commission the project and extolled virtes of appreciation to the 1984 set for their magnanimous donation. Professor Olawepo, the current HoD, department of Anatomy, Unilorin demonstrated the table to the VC and everyone. It was a remarkable day.

I was at the Ilorin office of NIS yesterday.
I applied online for a Nigerian International Passport inline with the directive of the honourable minister of interior, Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola that applicants should not patronise hoodlums for passport enrollment. I went to NIS office on the 29th of December, 2021 at Apata Yakuba in Ilorin for verification. I attempted to use the court oath which they use for their own clientele base but the man rejected it insisting that I must go to State High Court. I painstakingly went to the high court and got the oath, returned to NIS office and presented the necessary papers. I was told by the officer to return in 7 days time for capturing. The 7-day timeline was yesterday, only to get there and was told that I will have to pay the sum of 6K for administrative charges before I will be captured, despite managing to scale the stress of getting and signing the guarantor oath form. They perpetrate all kinds of irregularities and organised fraud openly in that their Àpáta Yakuba office. My file still lies helplessly in the collection officer's office because I cannot afford the so-called "administrative" charges of #6,000. Ilorin NIS OFFICE isn't DIY friendly. Even when you have a plugin, ensure that the person whom you'll handover your processing of passport to is a very sure one.
This is very unfortunate. I have also the information that 7k must be paid as admin charge. We have a lot to correct gaskiya. O just applied online and I'm already proceeding with the payment because of the fear of not able to pay the baseless admin bribe.

PoliticsIlorin Durbar: A Misplaced Priority In Ilorin? by Tourshaw(op): 6:43pm On Jul 19, 2021
Is it not audible to the deaf and visible to the blind the level of poverty and nothingness in Ilorin?Masses are hungry and can hardly feed once daily. People live and breathe in hunger and penury. But our headache is Durbar. How exactly is that not a misplaced priority?

In 2018 that the Durbar was done, one rich man donated 20million. With 20m, you can give 10k to 2000 people. This year again, donations have been received. A very good number of them. One of them is another rich man in Ilorin who reportedly donated 10million naira to support the Durbar festival this year. With that alone, you can give 10k each to 1000 people. A thousand people genuinely happy and smiling all because of you alone. But no, they won't do that because such donation won't get talked about and won't get as loud as this. In that wise, the agenda of the donation is not the people but the public. There's a significant difference between the two.

To quickly reset your presumption, I am not opposing Durbar, no. I even admire it greatly. I spent more than a year in Kano State and I saw the beauty and heritage of Durbar there.

My point however, is, when is poverty eradication going to receive the kind of attention and contribution Durbar festival in Ilorin receives all the time? When is joblessness going to be the centre focus of all these so-called philanthropists? Being popular for investing in people is better than being popular for Durbar contribution. Don't you agree with me on this?

All these politically motivated donations should have been directed and targeted to whatever serves the interest of all and sundry in Ilorin in terms of empowerment. Let's not allow these peoples use their Durbar donations as their contribution to the society in their campaign manifestos. Let's protect the sanctity of the norm.

It's a big shame that these people pay no attention to how difficult things are within the city and how struggling living is for the common man. They don't care about how you live. Every one naira that leaves them to us as Durbar donation comes with their hidden agenda.

The most annoying part is the way we praise and worship these people for these little-or-no-good donations. For crying out loud, we need to have a clear and accurate definition of our political expectations so as to avoid unnecessary mix-up and disappointment

I hope and pray that the affluent among us will use their affluence for individual betterment of Ilorin people. We have enough people that can totally eradicate poverty from Ilorin. May Allah guide our leaders aright. This is the most important.

Ilorin o ni baje fa. InshaAllah.

SportsReview Of The United's Loss Of UEL Finals by Tourshaw(op): 9:17pm On May 27, 2021
To be honest I was more than disappointed with the outcome of the match. Like we had the game at our grasps and we let it slip away due to insensitivity and cluelessness on the part of the coach. The following are my honest observations and way forward.

❌ You continued playing Rashford even though he was awful and horrible that night as usual.

❌ Delaying substitution for no reason. I guess it's because he's confused of who to remove.

❌ Removing Greenwood when he was the one active in the front after Cavani proofs Ole wasn't interested in the cup.

❌ Removing Pogba who was the heart of our defence after Scot despite that you needed to score.

❌ Knowing how terrible Degea has been and still continuing with him when a better option was on the bench.

❌ Man U cannot continue with this level of mediocrity if we're going to be a genuine title contender next season.

Way Forward

✅ Ole should be relieved of his position with immediate effect. That toxicity is too much. He singlehandedly handed over the cup to Villarreal with his illogical decisions. Look for a better coach who doesn't necessarily needs to be the club legend.

✅ Rashford doesn't deserve starting eleven of this United team. This is football not some kids feeding charity. He is not reliable at all. He's a hungry footballer. Imagine seeing aged Cavani running after ball like he's 19 and our London Messi was just jogging behind.

✅ Degea has had his days in the United and to be honest he has been very wonderful. But he should take a rest now especially whenever penalty situation like yesterday own happens again.

✅ We need at least 3 top signings. A lethal attacker. A defensive midfielder and a CB. We have enough but we need more options in case of injury and fatigue. I don't want to bring up suggestions. We all know good players and need no one to tell us.

✅ Amad needs to build his confidence and for that he needs more playing time. You can't keep good players on the bench to be watching poor players play and expecting them to be better. Tuanzebe was a fine defender at the beginning of this season but horrible now due to excessive benching.

✅ If we employed the above doctrines on the way forward, then I hope we'll get it right next season campaign.

That's my imperfect conclusions.

CareerJournalism In A Rapidly-changing World by Tourshaw(op): 1:26pm On Dec 07, 2020
Journalism, according to the 9th edition of the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is the activity or job of collecting, writing, and editing news stories for newspapers, magazines, television, or radio. In another words, journalism anything that has to do with dissemination of news through all the social media which include but not limited to newspaper, magazine, radio, television and through the internet.

Journalism is a lifelong profession that is as old as man itself. It has stood the test of time and remains indomitably important even in our ever-dynamic world. This is because of the fact that human beings are able to adapt and understand their environment with the aid of information made available to them through journalism.
In the olden days, the primitive method of information dissemination was just through newspaper and radio. The former was very common among the literates while the latter was the applicable to the illiterates. Journalism was much easier and collection of news was very direct. Journalists found it easy because the world was not as sophisticated then as it is today. Despite the sophistication today, journalism is still very significant and apparently more important than it was before. Our everyday lives revolve round it. It is a field of study that one can never do without regardless of the level of exposure in life.

Journalism is highly underrated because the world do not yet realize its prowess and what it is capable of. It has proven to be the mover and shaker of the world. Journalism has become a very sharp and powerful tool that can be used to change the world. When journalism is put to good use, it can help restore normalcy, bring about peaceful coexistence among people with a plethora of things that differentiate them. It can raise the style and standard of living of people.

On the contrary, journalism, especially investigative journalism, is a very sensitive profession that if it's handled by mischief makers through fake news and others, can also be used as a weapon of mass destruction. The epitome of journalism is evident in the recent series of nationwide protests in Nigeria about Police brutality which was started by the news people read online. Gross misinformation owing to fake and unverified news the consequences of which may be unimaginably fatal. This is because most news reporters find it difficult to delve into investigative journalism which can be very expensive and requires being security conscious whereas it is the most reliable source of quality information.

And nowadays, with the current trend and situations of things, the most viable form of journalism may be online social media platforms particularly Twitter and the likes. This is understandable due to widespread of smart phones today. What was the most common then was radio set. However since the advent of mobile phones, radio is not as popular again.

On a final note, our dynamic world continues to change and journalism is also changing with it. The use of internet and investigative journalism have become the most viable presently. It is also a very sensitive profession that proficient and seasoned writing skills may not be enough without good intentions. Amateurish journalism that lacks professional ethics has made the profession a ridicule.

PoliticsProblem Of Insecurity In Nigeria by Tourshaw(op): 6:31pm On Nov 26, 2020
This issue of insecurity, especially these kidnappings, is becoming excruciatingly burdensome. It's becoming very sad and annoying wallahi. It's almost equal as if the Government is doing little or nothing about it. Kidnapping in the north has now grown so rampant that it's effect is now spread and felt across the country.

The kidnapping in *Kaduna* is exactly why sometimes I berate the government for not taking serious action immediately a problem is sighted. Why do we always have to wait until it becomes widespread and everyone is talking about it before we take a very serious measures to curb it. We always allow to grow into sore before looking for the treatment. We forget a little tiny single match is enough to destroy the tallest of buildings.
Yes, some serious measures were taken by the government couple of months ago regarding the kidnapping in Kaduna but when a problem persists it means it's not solved and more efforts should be employed.

The kidnapping issue in Kaduna didn't start in Kaduna. The kidnapping started in Zamfara. That was I decided not to transfer to Zamfara when I had the chance in Kano. Then it spread to Katsina and now in Kaduna-Kano and those are the ones I know o. Just like a stateman once said that if North (Kano) is not safe then nowhere is safe. If the issue was conscientiously addressed in Zamfara then it would have ended there but then we are carelessly neglecting the priorities thereby strengthening the activities of these mischief makers who will never know peace.

The most annoying part is, these kidnappers are now operating freely on Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Express road... The most delicate and dangerous spot. And they spare no one irrespective of who or where you belong. A family friend who resides in Buruku Kaduna narrated how terrible it is there and that it's more than what words could express. Those bastards will stop a travelling bus and kidnap passengers and be asking their family for a ridiculous amount of money as a ransome. The craziest thing about their activities is that when you gather the money and take it to them. They will take the money and kidnap the person that brought it without releasing their first victims. Imagine the audacity!!!

I was just being told of a poor old woman whose son was kidnapped and asked to pay 10million naira as a ransom. She doesn't even have 10 thousand naira fa. People went from a household to another, from one mosque to another to gather the money. All that was raised was close to 1.5million and they decided to take it to them in Kaduna.
Fast forward, the money was collected and the person who took the money to them was kidnapped as well and they didn't release the son of the poor woman. Now they're asking for more money. This is how insecure north is now. Was it even last week a professor of Physiology was also kidnapped in ABU. Chai!

This issue of kidnapping should be perceived by all the necessary quarters as a national threat and should be treated as one. This I believe will ensure it's not seen as another source of income for those doing it when they don't get enough harsh treatment they deserve. This is where intelligence unit will be leveraged on the armed forces. Fish them out. Kill them all. Burn them all. Get rid of those cowards in their hideout.

When a land is safe for mischief makers then it will be unsafe for the masses. (Tourshaw, 2020)

Government at all levels should work hand-in-hand to combat the insecurity across the country. People should also cooperate by giving important info to the security agents in order to ensure the battle is won. Also let's be vigilant and be conscious of our environment. If we notice anyone or anything that is somewhat strange, we should not hesitate to contact the police. Not just the government, we also have a very important role to play. It's down to us end insecurity in the country.

Politics10 Advantages Of The Ongoing Endsars Protest In Nigeria by Tourshaw(op): 9:51pm On Oct 15, 2020
If you're one of those who for one reason or the other don't agree with protest in the first place and think it has yielded little or no result. Instead it has caused more harm leading to more death and loss of properties. Kindly follow me through this write up, let me reveal to you what you may not know about what has been achieved by the protests so far so that you won't be talking ignorantly in the public condemning what has helped even you. Shall we?

1. Dissolution of SARS

Firstly, the primary fight was won by the protesters. SARS got dissolved and SWAT to replace it. Tho Nigerians feel SWAT team may not be different from the defunct SARS and so they continue the protest. This has heaved a sigh of relief on regular assaults and extortion by SARS officers.

2. Pressure on the Government by the Youths

An adage says a whisper unattended to grows to become a roar. The government knows very well that the protest is a threat and if not stopped early could grow into a bigger movement. However, they can't violently stop it. They started devising measures to reduce the youths from the streets since a good number of protesters are the students at home as a result of ASUU strike and jobless graduates. The continuous protests and the emergence of a rumoured Youth Democratic Party, YDP among others have compounded the pressure on the government to end the protests Nationwide.

3. Possible Call-off of ASUU Strike

Consequently the FG had had two meetings with the ASUU during this protest in order to end the ongoing strike. The FG were adamant that ASUU must enrol in IPPIS payment platform in order to eradicate corruption in the system. ASUU insisted that they won't as the government must use UTAS which is developed by ASUU themselves instead of IPPIS. However, just to take people from the streets and protests, FG has accepted to use UTAS after suggesting it into thorough scrutiny. Another meeting is imminent which maybe the one that puts the strike to a halt.

4. Nigeria Youth Investment Fund, NYIF

This is a program designed for youth who have business ideas. The government through the sponsorship of CBN released 75billion to help young Nigerians with finance to kick start their business ideas. Although, the have started the planning long time ago they didn't indicate when it'll start. So, they seized the opportunity now so that it will discourage the continuous protest.
5. Commencement of P-YES program
The FG has also commissioned the P-YES program which is Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme by giving youths tools and equipment that will help them start or continue their vocational entrepreneurship like sewing machine, grinding machine among others. I remembered I registered for this last year in Kano just that we didn't hear anything about it again. Now, the government found this time apt to start this program so as to take a number of youths away from the streets.

6. Commencement of NYSC mobilization

As if they will stop there, NYSC is also a program that will snatch more graduates from the streets for a year. Mobilization was stopped more than 5 months ago and since they got a nod from the federal government to reopen camps last month, they haven't released anything. So, now, NYSC may soon start working on mobilization of new prospective corps members which consequently reduce the protests.

7. Commencement of FG 774,000 Jobs

The controversial three-month job by the federal government which is under the supervision of the ministry of labour has generated a lot of heated parliamentary bullies and arguments and has suffered postpone after postponement. Now, FG just declared that the registration will start officially on November 1. This program will employed youths for three months and pay them 60k. Another result of the protest.

8. Salary Increment for the Nigeria Police Officers

The police reforms that protesters are clamouring may also see possible and reasonable increase in the salary of Police officers which which make them desist from bribery and extortion. So, somehow, we're fighting for the police as well. So, if you perceive this fight is just about SARS then you don't have the background knowledge of the protests.

9. Npower Shortlist

Don't be surprised if you also see Npower release their shortlisted candidates and announced the next stage of the recruitment process anytime soon. Over 5 million youths reportedly applied for 400,000 slots. If 400k youths across the country are kept busy, don't you think that they're logically reducing the number of our unarmed street soldiers?

10. Others

On a more important note, this protest has just revealed to us what we can achieve as united youths devoid of what divides us. It has showed the spirit of togetherness among the protesters. I was so emotional when I saw a tweet announcing a lost but found iPhone during protest. It's unbelievable. And surprisingly that's one of the many amazing things during the protests. Through the protests as well, hypocrites are revealed as well as people that walk the talk and stand firm to lend a voice on the just cause. I'm history will remember the roles each and everyone of us play during the protests.

On a final note, the protest is tagged ENDSARS but the open secret is that SARS is not the only problem we're battling with in the country because a lot of things are attached to ending SARS too. Therefore, the protests extend and call for national restructure so as to make the country habitable for all. If ENDSARS is about general development and not just the police you will agree with me that it hasn't ended. In fact, it's not close to coming to an end.

More importantly, from Jimoh Isiaq pray may the souls lost during this fight rest in peace while we fight keep the fight on as justice is being served to them. You people made the tough sacrifice for us all and we will never forget you all. We will tell your names to our children and the children of our children. Your names won't be forgotten in a hurry in our memories. (Sobs a little). We keep fighting for you all untill the goal is achieved.

God bless Nigeria
God bless Nigerians
God bless you

This is the injustice we do to ourselves but God is watching us, all of us. Fear of God has left the bodies and souls of our leaders and make them not to see the suffering of our masses.
