oh God, did i have to look up the meaning of that. |
a lot depends on the personal values of the lady involved, most nigerian men will back off if they dont get a green light from the woman. Why would they waste time and energy on someone who isnt an easy catch? Easy meaning fling. the banks may be creating an enabling environment by putting pressure on female employees to meet financial goals, but its still up to the woman in question if its a situation she wants to put herself in, or not. How do the male employees make their own quotas? |
impressive, i do see pictures on various sites, but i always wonder if they're from google. |
true, a separate thread might be needed to address this, yoruba history is very vast and i seem to remember anther thread opened to discuss the yoruba footprint across nigeria and beyond. most non-northern areas outside the southwest claim some affinity with benin, benin kingdom back then did have a lot of peoples who were from other areas and who transited through there for some reason, think i've mentioned this before. Here's a thread discussing umunede: https://www.nairaland.com/396437/history-ika-people-umunede a quote from that thread: Historians also believe that there were other settlers before and after Ede and Iye arrived at the present location but no one was sure when those earlier settlers arrived at this same location. However, later migrations to Umunede were well documented.umunede consists of many quarters for people of different ethnicities, rather similar to the sabo styled areas or towns of the north which are set aside for non-northerners. Its quite possible some descendants of ede people might be there, same as descendants of other areas. If ede had a history of migration in ancient times. |
hmm, well, its somewhat tough, true. |
Are these cakes really in nigeria or is this google? |
Google dear. |
Very simplistic. There's no country in the world which doesnt import food. |
i think at some point we also have to look into the meaning of words like awosonmo (awosomo), which is yoruba for sky, or the heavens. a cursory glance would seem to indicate awo somo is two words- awo and sonmo, awo meaning skin or covering, and sonmo's meaning being somewhat unknown. So, awosomo is the covering or cloak of the sky, covering whatever is beyond the sky. (someone can correct this interpretation if its wrong). however, in latin, somno is a state of sleep. could be coincidence, not ruling that out. |
still on the latin similarities- i found more coincidences: 1. Mare in latin means sea [pronounced maah-rhey] Olodumare in yoruba is the supreme creator [we all know the yoruba creation mythology]. The mare in Olodumare is also pronounced maah-rhey. of course we can argue the mare in Olodumare isnt connected to the sea, however, its still interesting nonetheless. 2. Multi in latin means many, likewise plural also means many. In yoruba, prefixing M before numbers is commonplace. eg meji, meta, merin, marun, and so on. True, numbers are also used without the M prefix, but one still has to wonder why its there to begin with. Pupo in yoruba is many, or great. Likewise Opolopo means many. Plu in latin refers to many, or multiple. |
Tony Spike: could you please give me the link to Terracotta's earlier discussion on the Latin words? Thankshttps://www.nairaland.com/1027095/ooni-alaafin-kabiyesi-decoding-meaning#11940420 |
Are there no sensible elders in that family who can wade into this matter? Lord have mercy, this is 2013. Did the widow say something that annoyed the husband's people? Is anybody mourning the man at all? |
9jacrip: At first bolded: I have assigned myself that role too since I'm still trying to absorb the angle from which this thesis is building. The thread title says the yoruba ancestral version of halleluyah, dear. The reason the bible is being looked at with regards to yoruba history is because it gives detailed records of semitic history in ancient canaan, and also describes movement and origins of peoples. Depending on your context and area of discussion, using the bible as a frame of reference isnt necessarily far fetched, it depends on what the contributors are bringing to the table and how well researched their conclusions are. I know a lot of people have been desensitived to bible references when discussing african history and this is because of the tendency some folks have to introduce weird and illogical write ups for one reason or the other. So far, that has not been the case here. Then too, many believe the subjects are mutually exclusive, however, is that assumption a correct one. |
I think the question is for those who believe bargaining with their body is an acceptable option. For those who do not, well, i guess you just have to wait on God. Personally, i think its simply easier for people to blame their actions on some external factor, eg he/she made me do it, not admitting perhaps you decided to give in to the opportunity. Yes, sometimes choices are hard but not every situation involves extremes and when one does, its just easier to take the easy way out, not so? Yes, long grammer and yes i do understand life is not black and white. |
I posted a comment before but then realized your second link seems somehow. Cant click on it either for that reason and also, if nothing is amiss, then maybe you should give a short summary of the site first. |

Amen. Thats a good pov, however i doubt its possible to live entirely free of sin, thats where Jesus' sacrifice applies, else no one would stand a chance. Not an excuse to continue intentional sin btw. |
I love you means the person is committed (barring infatuation) Love you means the lady doesnt want you to feel she's not. |
KunleOshob: Manmuswac is not even regular in this section, he spends more time ranting around the sports section. I wonder how he got selected as moderator for this section, seun must be up to no good as usual.lol |
who is ako sef? ![]() not really familiar with the moniker. |
you are overanalysing things. mynd is crazy, however, its not my business if he wants to be a mod. all those short hungry posts he makes are when he's had his dose of the hard stuff. when he hasnt, you dont want to be near him. |
i have to understand what the author is saying before i can agree or disagree. |
