is it just me, or are there more christmas threads this year than previously? i doubt its even mostly christians celebrating christmas or opening threads. |
in nigeria, most people can only afford to eat chicken at christmas. elsewhere, chicken is eaten all the time. a lot of people become vegetarians because they do not like the idea of feeding on animals. macdonalds has 10 million pounds of chicken they need to sell. |
Prejudice refers to prejudgment, or forming an opinion before becoming aware of the relevant facts of a case. The word is often used to refer to preconceived, usually unfavorable, judgments toward people or a person because of gender, social class, age, disability, religion, sexuality, race/ethnicity, language, nationality or other personal characteristics. In this case, it refers to a positive or negative evaluation of another person based on their perceived group membership. Prejudice can also refer to unfounded beliefs and may include "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence." Gordon Allport defined prejudice as a "feeling, favorable or unfavorable, toward a person or thing, prior to, or not based on, actual experience." wiki |
Xenophobia is the irrational or unreasoned fear of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange Racism poor treatment of or violence against people because of their race : the belief that some races of people are better than others Tribalism loyalty to a tribe or other social group especially when combined with strong negative feelings for people outside the group Phobia A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος, Phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear" ) is, when used in the context of clinical psychology, a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational. In the event the phobia cannot be avoided entirely, the sufferer will endure the situation or object with marked distress and significant interference in social or occupational activities. It is possible for an individual to develop a phobia over virtually anything. The name of a phobia generally contains a Greek word for what the patient fears plus the suffix -phobia. sources: wiki and www |
its an "ism" and the fault is often in the person hating. "ism" or "ia" as in racism, tribalism, etc. "ia" as in xenophobia, phobia, etc. Caused by fear of something or someone, for whatever reason. "Intuition" does not make you hate someone on sight, rather i'd call it a neuroses, an "ism" or "ia".
|
i'm sure they've seen and been told of this thread, they just prefer to ignore it for reasons best known to them. perhaps they prefer interacting with nigerians. |

this nok sculpture, for example, has highly stylized facial proportions. the chin and cheekbones are elongated, as are the nose, lips and eyes, which also follow the triangular pattern of the face. |
@ bolded naturalistic art is art which depicts objects as close as possible to their natural form. in stylization, different parts may be exaggerated or minimized depending on emphasis. |
African art is a term typically used for the art of Sub-Saharan Africa.Often, casual observers tend to generalize "traditional" African art, but the continent is full of people, societies and civilizations, each with a unique visual culture. The definition may also include the art of the African Diasporas, such as the art of African Americans. Despite this diversity, there are some unifying artistic themes when considering the totality of the visual culture from the continent of Africa. The term African art does not usually include the art of the North African areas along the Mediterranean coast, as such areas had long been part of different traditions. For more than a millennium, the art of such areas had formed part of Islamic art, although with many particular characteristics. The Art of Ethiopia, with a long Christian tradition, is also different from that of most of Africa, where Traditional African religion (with Islam in the north) was dominant until relatively recently. Most African sculpture was historically in wood and other organic materials that have not survived from earlier than, at most, a few centuries ago; older pottery figures can be found from a number of areas. Masks are important elements in the art of many peoples, along with human figures, often highly stylized. There is a vast variety of styles, often varying within the same context of origin depending on the use of the object, but wide regional trends are apparent; sculpture is most common among "groups of settled cultivators in the areas drained by the Niger and Congo rivers" in West Africa.[2] Direct images of deities are relatively infrequent, but masks in particular are or were often made for religious ceremonies; today many are made for tourists as "airport art". African masks were an influence on European Modernist art, which was inspired by their lack of concern for naturalistic depiction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_art |
