Politics › Re: Lagos State Recalls All Sacked Doctors by tpia5: 4:44pm On Jun 03, 2012
allycat: Monday is just 2 days away, and I tell you that by this time on Monday there will still be no clinics running, no theaters operating, and the emergency rooms will still not be fulnctional in Lagos State hospitals the reason being that legally the doctors are not employees of Lagos state as we speak. I have a sack letter in my file, without a letter stating otherwise I remain sacked.
On Monday some doctors will go to the hospital to find out what is going on, me I will remain in my house, shebi they used couriers to bring sack letters to doctors houses let them send the same with the rescindment letters. Doctors may not be learned fellows like our governor but neither are we illiterate casual laborers that you sack today and recall tomorrow. As I have said the effects of this sack on the health sector are going to linger for a long time. Tinubu coming on air and making the right propaganda Josie has not sorted out anything.
ask your union leaders what you're supposed to do.

arent they the ones who organized the strike? huh

For goodness sake, what is wrong with planting flowers? Isnt it flowers you pay thousands of dollars for as plane ticket and queue endlessly at embassies to go and look at overseas?
Culture › Re: Why Do Yoruba Guys Mostly Marry Igbo Girls Than Vice Versa? by tpia5: 1:10pm On Jun 03, 2012
mimifonwon: Okay wow, dear tpia, i dont need to be happy that a man who insults my heritage wants me to lie about my identity and i dont need a man to define me. I am happy being single, and i rather marry a white man, before i subject myself to a tribalistic man in the name of culture. It is sad that women today feel they should be thankful that a man asked them out, as if they are doing them a favor. I dont need no man to ask me out, Its is a man's duty to chase a woman, and desire her regardless of her heritage. So Tpia @ 23 i am still growing but i bet i understand myself and identity better than you do yours, because only a lost and unfulfilled person will think they need another person to define them.
the guy in question has a ghanaian outlook and mindset, so you shouldnt judge other yoruba guys by his actions. He may have insulted your heritage in that manner because he himself feels out of place in his country. Anyway, its an experience- move on because stuff happens . Bigotry is found in every corner of the globe and an igbo man could also insult you the same way either because your mum is from a "wrong" state or because you are half yoruba. I've seen someone referring to "half-Yoruba" here. Not that it concerns me (before he starts feeling funky) but just saying.
Culture › Re: Why Do Yoruba Guys Mostly Marry Igbo Girls Than Vice Versa? by tpia5: 1:04pm On Jun 03, 2012
Obiagu1: @ OP, the answer is right there in front of you. Look at Nairaland!
Imagine an Igbo man marrying someone like Desola, Ileke-Idi, etc. The simple answer is that Yoruba women are too bigoted compared to Igbo women.
you dont even want to go there. Yoruba women will make a lot of noise while igbo women will finish you silently.
Culture › Re: Why Do Yoruba Guys Mostly Marry Igbo Girls Than Vice Versa? by tpia5: 1:03pm On Jun 03, 2012
Obiagu1: Your story sounds a bit weird though; a Yoruba man complaining about your ethnicity when you are Yoruba paternally.
Also, I think you should have titled your thread: "Why don't Yoruba guys marry Igbo girls" based on your story except you want to know whether Igbo men are readily open to marry Yoruba girls.
the yoruba man in question grew up in ghana and as such, is more of a ghanaian.
Culture › Re: Why Do Yoruba Guys Mostly Marry Igbo Girls Than Vice Versa? by tpia5: 1:02pm On Jun 03, 2012
mimifonwon: First of all when we met i spoke yoruba, and so did he, so he just assumed i was full. He grew up in ghana and rarely visits nigeria, so when i told him my dad is from ogun state and my mom abia state, I thought he got the point that i was of mixed tribe. He never asked me anything more about my background. So i was a bit taken back when he met my mom and started making those statements. Yes in certain situations I reacted to things as he termed it like a "igbo girl," which i still dont understand by what he meant and dont care anymore. I didnt deceive him, and it is not my fault that he has more affinity towards igbo girls.
just seeing this. I guess what you had was a miscommunication then. If he grew up in ghana, he might not be familiar with nigeria's ethnic makeup by state. And he'd also pick up various kinds of biases even though igbos seem to think ghanaians like them.

tanimola22: Go to Germany. There is a 2-year post study for students. The money you will use to pay tuition to study at a UK uni, you should use it to search for a job after your studies in Germany. The German economy beats the UK economy any day, plus cost of living in most parts of Germany is very low.

German schools are also among the top 500 in the world. I suggest you go to Germany. Try to master the language while studying.

T22.
italy also has decided to make english the language of communication in some of its major universities, it seems. It was inthe news the other day. I think some schools in germany also teach in english- i got this from the same source. A lot of british students are applying abroad to continue their studies due to the tuition increase from last year. I dont know if all this is to accomodate them.

anonymous6: If you are not full Yoruba, you shouldn't really subject yourself to that, especially since your mother is not Yoruba. Men go out with women most of the time like their mothers. Nollywood actors Desmond Elliot and Joseph Benjamin are both half yoruba/half igbo but are called igbo or treated as such; both have igbo mothers and yoruba fathers and both are with non-Yoruba women. Desmond Elliot is married to a ijaw women and Joseph Benjamin exclusively dates igbo women. You and the OP are immune into following the rule of marrying into a tribe, since both of you are mixed tribally.
but are you considering the children of such unions and how this will affect their identity later in life.

well, i guess settling in lagos is always an option sha.

quarter this and two tenths that doesnt really cut it with people unless you're in the midst of similar fellows- eg the US or somewhere.

just theorizing here.

as per the op- she's not even happy someone asked her out, she wants to start abusing the guy because he called her igbo after she threw him a shocker about her background. If she knows what people can face in the name of marrying half tribes or is it half and halfs, she'd think properly.

anyway, she's still young. lipsrsealed

Computers › Re: Can Internet Service In A Location Be Disrupted By A Third Party? by tpia5: 4:05am On Jun 03, 2012
If it can, how can it be detected and fixed?
probably a higher level of security or removal from the area of the interference.

for example, if a physical jamming device was used (the type that operates within a given vicinity), then getting out of range would help. Not very practical though, since most times you wont know what or where the disruption is coming from.

other times, could be a DOS attack by hackers and/or these shady characters who abound on the internet.
Computers › Re: Can Internet Service In A Location Be Disrupted By A Third Party? by tpia5: 4:02am On Jun 03, 2012
yes, the signals can be jammed.

happened to me today even, when someone was trying to track my system.

poster, better have some more friends/followers/stalkers on nl to buttress your popularity point.

and if indeed you're not married @ 29, then is it because your azz never sits in one place like you said, or you still want to "enjoy" life more.

My Urhobo/Edo friend has now imbibed the habit of always reminding that “those are your people” every time there are Yoruba names on TV
werent you the one who opened a thread [i just posted there] saying your edo friends told you edos are yoruba? huh

or what was that topic about again?
Culture › Re: Do Edo (Bini) People See Themselves As Yorubas? by tpia5: 2:02am On Jun 03, 2012
^^nice attempt to keep me on the thread. undecided

why would i make up stories about having original bini friends?

is your "bini" identity threatened?

are you originally a visitor to benin who "naturalized" there?

PhysicsQED: Hmmm. . .it's really only on NL that I've heard about any Edo or Edoid people perceiving Yorubas as being cowards and backstabbers/betrayers, but I guess I can only speak for and vouch for the people I've come into immediate contact with. Other people will doubtless have their own differing views, though I'd prefer it if they didn't pretend like they were speaking for entire groups when expressing their own views and opinions.
warrior101: A real bini man thinks yoruba are cowards and dirty... Even a 5yrs old will tell you. Are you surprised?
i personally havent met a bini person who echoed the kumbaya stuff i read on nl.

I think people are getting the issue confused due to the fact that many edo women marry yoruba men. So they assume this means edos/binis have a friendship bond with yoruba.

i had bini (real bini, not diaspora bini, lol) friends while growing up and they told me what binis from biniland think of yoruba.

though in fairness to them, is there any tribe binis really like.

for some reason, BEAF linked gej to the bush even though his name has nothing to do with bush.

poster, what's your point?

you seem stronger when it comes to igbo matters, than yoruba ones. ie you dont seem to get the hang of yoruba though you do igbo.

anyway, nothing new.
