the tapas in question must have been mixed, because nupes are traditional enemies of the yoruba.

also, yorubas share customs with many tribes all over nigeria, including hausa.

suffixes and prefixes are generally used to "place" people ie based on familial ties and cultural/occupational/deity affiliation, but nowadays many of the actual contexts arent known.

^^are you sure jakande isnt a yoruba name, given the fact that many rulers were called ajaka in the olden days.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of The Name Dabiri? by tpia5: 7:28pm On Oct 27, 2011
many yoruba names are shortened from longer versions, so people should stop tripping. undecided

if you're trying to analyze a condensed form of a name then of course you wont get the actual meaning.

its like asking what the name Bill means.

The thread does make it seem like the students spend most of their time having s.ex.

These things depend on priorities. Some student spend a great amount of time having s.ex while others dont.

It all depends on what a person considers priorities.

Eni ma se, a se. Eni tooni se ooni se.

That's simply what it all comes down to.

Some of my friends did it while others didnt. Some were severely tempted, lol, but still escaped and hopefully didnt hang out in dark corners with boys again.

Its "bad" but youth service is worse sha.

All these raging hormones.

^^we've all been there sweetie.

but first and foremost you should weigh if the need to share with strangers on the www should transcend your daughter's need to have a mum who doesnt reveal every single thing on the web.

it's not like the incident just happened and you're still adjusting to the situation.

you said it's been 8 years.

i'm just saying- you never know who's following your posts online.

also, i hope you can get closer to God and trust in his wisdom.

danjohn:
On a more serious note, I know that it is easy to sensationalize this horrible looking school.  However, we must remember that Nigeria is a poor country with limited resources.  The three most important factors controllable by government are as follows:

1. The teacher
2. The curriculum
3. Teaching Aid (Notebooks, textbooks, Chalkboard, Pens etc).

As long  as the above three are provided, any child can learn.  It does not matter if a child is home schooled, as long as he or she has a good teacher, a solid curriculum, and good teaching aid, the child will excel.  We must remember that Yaradua built brand new school buildings in Kastina but Kastina still had the worst Common Entrance and WAEC results in the country.

Nonetheless, this does not excuse the poor state of this school.  The government has dropped the ball on education big time.  To fix this, we must begin by bringing dignity back to the teaching profession and providing our kids with the tools they need to learn.  Although I think that good teachers, strong curricula, and excellent teaching aids should be the first priority, our schools still need to be conducive places to learn.  The roofing of that school for example will making it impossible students to learn during the raining season.

In Nigeria we have taken our standard of what should be the "bare minimum" to an extreme.  The bare minimum for a school building should be good roofing with no leaks, hygienic environment, cross ventilation, chalk board, enough desks and chairs, and not more than X kids in a classroom.  With that you are good to go. This school building falls below what the bare minimum should be and it is unfortunate.
you've said it all.

the nigerian govt needs to make maintenance of educational institutions a priority.
Education › Re: The Worst Primary School On Earth Is In Ogun - SaharaReporters by tpia5: 11:33pm On Oct 26, 2011
I dont see what the fuss is about here.

The school is in a rural area, looks cleaner than most bigger towns in nigeria, and obviously, is still under construction.

The bricks are arranged in such a way as to provide maximum ventilation in the summer heat, and there's a lot of space for kids to play soccer.

The photo with the unbuttoned shirt was taken during the lunch break most likely and that's why the children look dusty and the boy didnt button his shirt.

Anyone who schooled in nigeria should be familiar with that scenario unless they were rich.

the main problems here are the thatched roofs, and once the proper roofing is done, the entire school will look better.

i'm more interested in finding out what the overall testing results are for the place.

btw, are there any signs or something verifying the fact that this isnt all a pose for the camera? huh

usually when people start making noise in the media over something in this manner, it means the govt or an organization somewhere is about to start pouring funds into it.

ie an influx of cash is expected.

^^thanks.

that's the boy slave though, not the return of shettima.

i reread the boy slave some months back, so the story is still fresh in my memory. cheesy

return of shettima is very difficult to find and i'm trying to at least get an inkling of what the book was about.

i know it picked up from after he returned home for a visit.

also, the chief's daughter was involved in a love triangle with him over a slave girl- fatima.

parts of the story sound like real life sha.

wonder if anyone i know is still there- its been a while.

my feelings:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UHt1ElUHgw

Say goodbye
But not knowing when
The truth of my whole life began

Say goodbye
But now knowing how
To cry you taught me that

And I'll remember
The strength that you gave me
Now that I'm standing on my own
I'll remember
The way that you saved me
I'll remember

Inside, I was a child that could mend a broken wing
Outside, I looked for a way to teach my heart to sing

And I'll remember
The love that you gave me
Now that I'm standing on my own
I'll remember
The way that you changed me
I'll remember

I learned to let go
Of the illusion that we can possess
I learned to let go
And travel in stillness
