are you in sokoto because that's where i know. |
^^i grew up poor in nigeria and i have also not had it easy as an adult. i dont waste my time ogling what other people have that i dont, and i didnt do that when i was growing up either. am i weird? ![]() if someone is riding a jaguar while i have a 15 year old car that rattles every other day, what i do is work towards getting a more functional car, not grumble and throw evil eyes at others for being better off than me. i dont know about you, but i simply dont feel the need to give myself tension over irrelevancies. likewise when i was jumping on molues in lagos i didnt concern myself with the area boys (and even the legitimately rich people) i saw driving the latest jeeps. that's just the way i live my life and i suppose i'm an unusual species? |
these "gape mouth" threads asking s.tupid questions, are so annoying. oh, i saw somebody doing this, and i dont, so why do they do that. somebody has such and such a thing, and i dont, so why do they have it. the i.diocy level of some posters is astounding. |
as always. ![]() i'm still waiting for uplawal's response though. |
na wa. just find some other crookish means to travel like everyone else does. somebody can advise you i'm sure. |
i dont understand why people feel it's ok to drag their personal matters into the open in this irresponsible manner sha. but to each his/her own. should you be exposing your daughter like this? or is your story fake. |
gaddafi built huge mosques in poor african countries though. do you still consider him unrighteous? ![]() he was also actively preaching islam to european ladies. |
i was about to ask if people no longer buy cars because they need them to get to work? ![]() maybe i'm out of touch. |
I thought the main reason for buying a car was so you could get from point A to point B. I could be wrong though. |
I think most cultures in the world have some things in common. A lot of african cultures have semitic tones which some prefer to call jewish while others prefer arab. Ibn batuta reported visitors to the king either of songhai or mali empire, as having to lie flat (maybe) and pour sand on their heads when in the presence of the sovereign. So, all these things arent new to africa. |
Also add the turkish earthquake to all that. Lord have mercy o. Though that's probably just an act of nature. But seriously, for this arab stuff, hope blacks wont be blamed for all this? |
If you want to follow that train of thought then add mubarat and tunisia's leader who were also caught by the arab spring. Saudi is struggling to maintain control by woe betiding dissension and upping fringe benefits while other countries like yemen and syria are yet to be determined in the power balance. I dont really believe claims about obama sr being from a black arab family but i'm really starting to wonder. He looked 100% african though. |
wbb. |
^^you'll have to spell it out for me if you dont mind. owo is in ondo state. Is there another one in ogun? ![]() owo in olden times was one of the regional slave trading centers- not sure if this is the connection you're referring to? |
^^not aware of this ogoga title. what's the pronounciation? ![]() there seems to be two kings in ikere- an olukere [of ife origin] and the ogoga [who seems to have migrated from benin]. Got this from a quick search. never heard of this conflict before. as per the ogoga/ogaga meaning- that's entirely possible. we also have juba in yoruba which means worship or respect, and juba happens to be the name of a roman emperor of african origin. so, there's really a lot that needs to be looked into by informed minds with the right training and experience. owo, for example, can mean respect or honour in yoruba but it's also the name of a town. |
^^ogaga is an urhobo term i believe. did someone call it yoruba and if so, what did they say was the meaning. |
Ooduan is more correct than Omo oduduaomo oodua is the correct term. Also I actually found out that the term Anago was actually awori descriptive name I am not too sure while Yoruba was from Oyo.anago, eku, etc were all used to describe yorubas in diaspora- particularly yorubas who were enslaved overseas. yoruba was used by the hausa for the people to their south [west]. i'm not sure oyos themselves went by that term. To the best of my knowledge, they simply called themselves oyo. |
aribisala's focus is more towards the east. his analysis on this thread is geared that way as well. yoruba, just like lukunmi, anago and eku/aku, are words used by outsiders to describe southwesterners in ancient times. on a side note, some yorubas try to call themselves oodua which technically also isnt quite correct. Omo oodua is more accurate. |
@ topic the man has been freely doing his thing for decades with no outside interference that we know of. Wonder why he suddenly became a priority now? ![]() Anyway. |
@ topic yes, it is. The govt has now officially changed hands. These "revolutions" actually arent an unusual occurence in the middle east- just that they tend to take place in forty year intervals. I think what we need to find out now is what will be the effect on black africa. |
Who cares? ![]() Maybe some female somewhere. |
Interesting write up. And yes, sharia law is being introduced to libya it seems. |
please translate so we can contribute. or should we all respond in the same language ie shorthand. |
the whole thing is sort of subdued and anti-climactic. most people arent really tripped per se, though i could be wrong. |
I don't think that the Olukumi-speaking people see themselves as anything but residents of their respective villages, nowadays.quite right. |
^When you say drives his car in mid air, what does that mean? ![]() He bought the flying car which came out recently? |
@ topic i'm noticing some naming patterns on the list someone posted: 3 issele 3 onicha 2 idumuje 2 ogo each with suffixes or appelations. any clue about the meanings of the words? ![]() |
^^you're the one turning everything into a battle for points. you really should deal with your insecurity. |
odumchi:are you saying their oral traditions are wrong- i dont get your point. |
A migration? Are you sure abt this?
werent you on the other thread where this topic was discussed. check the newspaper article. Also, Are you even sure that that that group was actually called olukumis and even when they "were in Ondo"?when in ondo, they wouldnt have been called lukumi because they only acquired that name in diaspora. It was what they were called by outsiders. same applies to yoruba itself. |
exotik:someone familiar with yoruba dialects would understand the difference of odu'uwa. |
