there were almost no Nigerians in the United States until the 1970sthat's not correct. Today, there are nearly 250,000 Nigerians in the U.Sif the US opens its borders by granting easy access to her shores by offering visas and paths to permanent residence, should people not come? when they encouraged nigerians to migrate, should they have refused the offer? |

is the op denrele? |
Changing their names means losing their identity completely. What stake do they hv in their late father's name again if the only binding thing is forcefully removed?their genes. most family issues in nigeria are usually about property and who inherits what, i assume your concern is also along those lines? as per losing their identity, if the father himself had changed their names before he died, would they still be considered as having lost their identity? Its a matter of perspective. how many people in nigeria have never changed names at some point in time? as per the question posed by the op, no she does not have to change the names of her kids. but, since the op also introduced the issue of her husband requesting she change their names, then they might as well just pick an entirely new one. |
yellowpawpaw: Changing their names means losing their identity completely. What stake do they hv in their late father's name again if the only binding thing is forcefully removed?if there is no codicil from the family saying they have to bear the family surname in order to inherit property, changing their name shouldnt prevent them from doing so, as long as they are recognised by the family as being the man's heirs. like i also pointed out, this is not the type of matter to just be thrown around nairaland anyhow, thats why i asked if there are no responsible elders to consult in their vicinity. thirdly, there is no need to panic as i mentioned before. The man could be trying to look out for the best interest of the children, in his own way. fourthly, the kids already know they are step siblings with possibly more coming. Regardless if they change their name or not, if conflict will occur it still will. Most families do have those, doesnt matter if they're step or not. |
she bashes men in general, not only married men. she's also bashed her ex boyfriends, saying they did one thing or another. like i said, father issues. |
pickabeau1: The issue here is actually about the kids not the womanChanging their name doesnt necessarily mean they'll lose their identity. They will lose part of their identity, yes, but sometimes you have to weigh the pros and cons of a situation. |
I dont think a woman keeps her late husband's name when she remarries? Generally speaking. |
It doesnt necessarily mean the man is against the kids, he may be trying to protect them. Changing names isnt too unusual in nigeria, many people do change their names at some point. The whole family can just switch to an english name or a christian one. They can also choose a general name in their language. |
ufos77: I am not avoiding responsibility. If I wanted a kid I would say so but we both appeared not to want it thus the pill. beside I may be going abroad next year. I don't want my kid raised by another man or in my absence. Then you should be using a condom dear. Since you refused to, then let the woman be. |
kambili999: already did dat... Wats with it?Thats an option. |
When you had sex without a condom, multiple times for that matter, you didnt know it would result in pregnancy? Hope you dont go around spreading stds, just saying. Sounds like you're a slacker who likes sleeping around but doesnt like responsibility. Seriously, how much is a condom? |
He shouldnt say all those things until he's broke, thats when he can test his theory and see if his wives still agree with him. |
This is almost the fifth or tenth time i've heard this exact same story. Must be cult related i guess. Make una dey takeam easy nah, can Jesus not deliver you from all this law of sin and death? |
Unfortunately, i think she has father issues and this colours all her interactions with the opposite sex. She cant face her father directly, so she harangues the men she sees, instead. |
