Pakistanis have tribes, Afghanistan has tribes, native Americans have tribes.

some Africans call it tribe while others prefer ethnic group.

same thing and same mentality.

if you act like a tribe then you're a tribe.

Politics › Re: Anambra's Igbo Language Bill by tpiah: 3:35pm On Jun 03, 2009
why is Swahili so widespread:

Swahili is a Bantu language that serves as an alternative first language to various groups traditionally inhabiting about 1,500 miles of the Southeast African coast. About 35% of the Swahili vocabulary derives from the Arabic language, gained through more than twelve centuries of contact with Arabic-speaking traders. It also has incorporated German, Portuguese, Indian, English and French words into its vocabulary through contact during the last five centuries.

The name 'Kiswahili' comes from the plural of the Arabic word sāhil ساحل: sawāhil سواحل meaning "boundary" or "coast" (used as an adjective to mean "coastal dwellers" or, by adding 'ki-' ["language"] to mean "coastal language"wink. (The word "sahel" is also used for the border zone of the Sahara ("desert"wink). The incorporation of the final "i" is likely to be the nisba (adjectival form) in Arabic (of the coast "sawāhalii" سواحلي), although some state it is for phonetic reasons.

The earliest known documents written in Swahili are letters written in Kilwa in 1711, in Arabic-script, they were sent to the Portuguese of Mozambique and their local allies. The original letters are now preserved in the Historical Archives of Goa, India[8]. Another ancient written document is an epic poem in the Arabic script titled Utendi wa Tambuka ("The History of Tambuka"wink; it is dated 1728. The Latin alphabet has become standard under the influence of European colonial powers.

Swahili is unusual among sub-Saharan languages in having lost the feature of lexical tone (with the exception of the numerically important Mvita dialect, the dialect of Kenya's second city, the Indian Ocean port of Mombasa).

Politics › Re: Have You Ever Seen Or Heard Of A Hausa/Fulani 'hustling' Abroad? by tpiah: 2:48pm On Jun 03, 2009
since most northerners tend to go back home immediately after their primary assignments whether it is schooling, conferences or other renditions as the case may be
maybe that's why the ambassador is Hausa? huh
Celebrities › Re: Celebrities Who Bleach Their Skin by tpiah: 2:37pm On Jun 03, 2009
Why is it difficult for some people to understand that some individuals are born light-skinned
correction:

95% or more of black/African babies are born light skinned (and straight haired for that matter)

Their skin then darkens to different extents as they grow older.

Politics › Re: Please Help Catch This Guy. by tpiah: 2:02pm On Jun 03, 2009
the real question is

Is the percentage of fraudulent Nigerians way higher than the number of honest ones?

because everyone keeps shouting whenever they hear of new atrocities done by Nigerians, and say the few bad eggs are spoiling the country's image. But how few are the criminals, really?

I'm starting to think the 419 Naijas far outnumber the honest ones, who may actually be a minority. The statistics seem to point to that.

When you add the juju factor which almost 90% of Nigerians are dependent on in one way or another, you may finally have a glimpse of this problem.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shehu_Shagari

from article
The village of Shagari was founded by Fulani Jihadist and cattlemen and later dominated by Hausa traders. Like many Jihadist founded towns, religious recitals was important for children growing up.
Quick question:

does anyone know if there are similar villages founded by Fulani herdsmen in the south? Where and when?

Tats:
There was a day I was going to work in the morning and I was reading Metro. I saw 2 different bad stories involving Nigerians. On my way back, I was reading Evening standard and saw another bad story of a naija person again. I felt very terrible that day!
given the number of Nigerians in that tiny London, is it surprising? huh

alienation at its height.

thuogh in all fairness its not like there's no crime in Nigeria- there's actually massive crime which just goes unreported or is covered up as juju and culture. Overseas visa doesnt whitewash people- if anything it gives them more opportunities to act out their nature.

And if these are foreign born naijas whose parents emigrated overseas, then more's the pity.

unfortunately, I only know what I'm seeing on this thread.

I never even knew the guy had a mole? huh

Our boys seem never tired of doing wrong.

See the article on the guys that stabbed Sunday Essiett. Three of them are Naija descendants.

of course if Nigeria had the equivalent of America and Britain's Most Wanted, not to mention the countless crimes that people get away with back home, all this would look like child's play. undecided

Lord have mercy!

is it by force to travel!

If that is true, I would really urge them to come and defend him in this thread. It would make an interesting debate. smiley
I doubt his friends are the type who'd be interested in "defending" themselves on an online forum.

I could be wrong however. Times have changed.
Politics › Re: Please Help Catch This Guy. by tpiah: 11:51pm On Jun 02, 2009
I'm quite sure his friends are on nairaland or scouting the web for anyone trying to compromise him.

Is this linked to a wider investigation of a religious angle? huh

No wonder Nairaland is under scrutiny!

Are you serious? What exactly do we know about him?
well, I obviously dont know anything till I saw this thread.

But my cousin used to see him back in the day in good ol' Lagos. Quite clearly i was spared any details beyond what I mentioned here.

I did think he was a doctor though I wasnt aware he was working as a psychiatrist in the UK. This is surprising.

He has some "hard" friends (some of who may also be on nairaland).

Evil communication does corrupt good manners.

This is a crying shame. undecided

chei!!!

is it by force to go abroad- what's wrong with all these Nigerians who just commit crimes anyhow as a cultural thing!

Politics › Re: Niger Delta War - Mend Strikes Back. by tpiah: 10:32pm On Jun 02, 2009
what's Shell's own explanation for what's going on?

There are two sides to every story.

and knowing Nigerians, dumping all the blame on the "foreign" party is often used to cover up our own inadequacies and double dealing.

I still fail to see how vandalizing pipelines/causing more ecological damage and kidnapping young children helps undo the previous damage.

Anyone who has worked with oyibos would know how they feel about blacks and impulsiveness. "Do or die" affairs.

and from what I heard- wasnt there more about the Ken Saro Wiwa story? Like werent there some families who brought a case against him? Though granted the execution wasnt necessary unless there's more we dont know.

mazaje:
the leviathan is a monstrous sea creature according to the bible, are dinosaurs sea creatures? dinosaurs are terrestrial animals not sea creatures. did job live 65 millon years ago? because dinosaurs went extinct about 65 million years ago. so leviathans are not dinosaurs.
this is all wordplay intended to derail the thread.

@ Huxley- no need for the insults. You should be able to respond in a matured manner without the need for childish fits and name calling. At least so far no one has insulted you yet.

Geez, this thread is sickening. Some people and idleness!!!!!!

why must you involve a 12 year old in your sexual fantasies!!! Sexuality section is open for you to go jerk off in!!!
Foreign Affairs › Re: America On The Road To Marxism by tpiah: 4:22pm On Jun 02, 2009
Government interference in people's personal lives is really getting out of hand. All in the name of anti-terrorism. And too many dolts are being given free rein and positions of power.

White extremists are already ganging up and empowering themselves based on this problem. Texas threatened to quit the union. Alaska has elements that plan to do the same.

It may have been this bad during the anti Communism scare of the fifties, I guess.

And yes, I do see a similarity with extremist, fascist or marxist ideologies, where individualism is discouraged. Actually quite common with African mindsets, though one would be surprised if Obama has that, since he says he was raised in the US.
