Gamesmart: Imagine Africans claiming it is "cultural and traditional" corruption for an African King to take a new wife or to have a King that does!!! it depends on the king or perhaps the individual culture, some dont keep harems while others do. So, some people might not be familiar with such a scenario. Even in Ife, its the tradition for the king to have many wives, however, it doesnt really mean every Ife king has had many wives, just that its expected they will. If keeping a harem is counter productive for a culture, you wont find it there. However, if its considered necessary, then you will. |

Gamesmart: That might be a fair argument, but what I am correcting this people on is their argument that "tradition is being corrupted", what they regard as "historical disqualifiers" of a Yoruba King and their complete lack of knowledge of African history, customs and traditions while postulating their Western culture as the historical norm for Africa. it's because nowadays there's a lot of glamour which they imagine is attached to being a king's wife (impression of western society and also media photographs in African society). However, traditionally, there was relatively less glamour attached to the position and most women would prefer avoiding such if possible if they knew what it entailed. Not saying there is no enjoyment there, at least most times there will be money and a comfortable lifestyle, but you have to be strong spiritually to handle being a king's spouse in the Nigerian context. |

@ gamesmart
You have a few points there but your presentation is rather aggressive.
True, a king's harem traditionally is rather fluid and in the past, considered a sort of boot camp for women. However, in modern times it (harem keeping) is not really expected like that. In addition, many kings decided not to engage in polygamy or harem keeping due to the modern era as well as their personal preferences.
Being part of a king's harem is not really as easy as most women would imagine, outside the glamour and public appearances. Its hard enough even without the presence of a harem, how much more when there is one. |

Kondomatic: Total expenditure for the wedding including refreshments, if she's not happy then she should foot the rest. I can't marry one woman twice. I can spend a hell lotta money on traditional marriage but white wedding? God forbid. N11000 for refreshments and wedding ceremony? |
