Hello everyone pls is it wise to book Airbnb for one month? I intend to stay in Mississauga near square one .landing first week Nov
I think it is a good idea as it helps you make informed decisions on where to live. Getting a permanent apartment may not be so easy afterall for new immigrants, hence I think it gives one the time to sewrch for one while getting to study the environment. If u do get a job it also gives u the opportunity to settle close to your work area. I just booked an Airbnb apartment for 28days in Mississauga and will be landing on Nov 12.

They have several like rogers, bell, freedom, koodo, telaus or so but the major ones are the rogers and bell.We tried getting the rogers and they requested for credit card, credit history and a canadian photo ID which we did not have, same requirements for bell so we had to pass.

On getting to walmart we saw they sell phones with a network provider so we asked d lady and she said as new immigrants without any form of ID we cld sign up for koodo or freedom,i actually needed to get a small phone where i can put my naija line before mtn gives another person after six months den they start using d number to withdraw my money using those short codes.
So i picked a small phone and did a monthly plan of $55 which includes 2gig of data, unlimited calls within canada and was it $4 per minute in international call(not too sure).Trouble started when the 2 gig finished within 3days,to buy 1gig it cost $20,i changed plan to $65 per month for 6gig after 4days e finish very different from naija.
Hubby is starting work with a telecom so definitely we wld switch to their plan.but once u can get unlimited internet at home, ure phone usage reduces very well and d quote we got was for $85 by rogers.experiences might differ.
Please which network do you recommend for unlimited internet at home? What are the prices like?

Safe landing then and please dont convert any of your dollar at the airport, those exchange guys are arm robbers without guns, exchange rate is horrible,u can use d cash machine at d airport incase u just want to hold small canadian money.always exchange ure money in d bank.
Thanks for the valuable information you have shared. Please permit some questions:

1. Please can you throw more light on the following "U can use the cash machine at the airport". I dont understand how that works.

2. Did u change your funds at the bank in Nigeria to canadian dollars or US dollars? How did you go about it? And in which currency type was ur act opened in canada?

3. I Seem to be drawn to TD bank based on the info presented. He does RBC compare to TD bank? What was the credit card limit provided for TD bank?

4. Is it required to declare funds at the airport in Nigeria? What was your experience like when you did at a certain time?

Let me try and explain further what I mean by doing a masters or diploma should be a last resort after considering all options. I will use my own personal experience, I landed in Ottawa, so my knowledge will be limited to Ottawa, as I don’t know much about other parts of Ontario. Just like your hypothetical friend after the first few weeks, of job search and no result, I was considering doing another masters, having just completed my MBA, the cost was not encouraging. Eventually, I realized that searching for a job as a newcomer in Canada is a full time Job itself. Asides, from daily job search online, I went to a lot of workshops to learn something new and connect with new people. Eventually, I started volunteering, that was one of the best decisions I made whilst waiting for my first paid job. I also considered unpaid internship (there are some settlement agencies in Ottawa that offer this), but got a Job before then. Below is a list I made for a friend who wanted to know what I did before getting my first job. Hopefully this helps. Ultimately, the decision is yours but I think it’s best to try, try and try .
@remiaig. This was quite resourceful considering I and my spouse intend to land in Ottawa, Ontario.

While she is a Pharmacist, I am an electrical electronic Engineer (Major in Electronic and computer Engineering) by course of study. My work experience thus far has been in production (Line Manager in a brewery) and as a Maintenance planner (Management). Hence ive never had the opportunity to gain some valuable experience related to my academic background.

Moreso am considering making a total switch to IT management or IT (project management) and not programming or software development side of things on Landing. Thus am considering acquiring a graduate certificate or diploma in IT in a college/Institute right in Ontario (Ottawa preferably).

I dont know if this is a good career decision. Additionally I need some guidance in making this transition and selecting an Institute or college suited for this in Ottawa.

Any further suggestions or support from you or anyone will be so embraced.

Thanks once again.

Congrats!

How did you improve your CRS from 430 as at Aug 2017?
I was previously the primary applicant (B. Eng degree) as far back as June 2017 on 430 despite my wife was a pharmacist. Her ECA was reviewed with WES as we didnt want to go thru the stress of PEBC which took abt 3 to 4 months for evaluation results to be ready. We felt 430 was sufficient to give us an ITA.

We kept waiting in the pool hoping the scores would drop to 430 or below... After waiting for abt 3 or 4 months we decided to do another review of her ECA using PEBC ( reviewed as a professional degree) so she could be the primary applicant. Just a few weeks ago her evaluation was complete. I deleted my profile and made her the primary applicant. Hence benefiting from getting increased points from her evaluation as a professional degree. Hence we sit on 472

2. Yes. They are listed by CIC as one of the institutions for ECA review.

Plz I have read ur post on ICes but I need further clarification.
1-how did u make payment? Cos I read on their site that it's only credit card.
2-can we send transcripts to them without quoting any reference number while waiting for their response on how to pay.
Plz ur swift response is highly appreciated as I want to port from Iqas.
NB. Any other person with experience of ICes can also respond.
1. Payment is required with the use of a credit card. I made payment using mt sisters credit card in the US. I think they should accept a debit card as well (mastercard or visa). Gtbank naira mastercard limit was recently increased to 1000USD. You can call their contact line btw 5.30pm to 9pm nigerian time to verify directly from ICES.

2. Yes you can send transcript without ref no. But if u have the ref no before processing ur transcript u can as well include that.

3. Documents are required to be sent via email. Only ur institution should send transcript directly via email or courier. I sent mine via email as stated on their website.

Regards.

They said " if confirmation of award is not present in the academic transcript , this information can arrive in letter from the appropriate authority...."

Are they asking for a different kind of transcript or is it still the same transcript that schools normally issue?
The same transcripts offered by schools. That was what my school sent in my case. Normal transcript.

Please is there no reference number that the schools will use to process and dispatch the transcript?
Do I have to wait for their payment request before my school dispatches the transcript? Am planning to get the school to send the transcript tomorrow even though I am yet to make payment .
Finally do drey accept statement of result k9
Its not required to include your reference ID on ur transcript. Its better you start processing ur transcript even before payment is requested as this helps saves some time.
I actually dont knw if statement of result is accepted. But u can contact them to verify. Usually their contact number +1 604-432-8800 is available from 5.30pm to 9pm Nigerian time. Just call in to very if statement of result is accepted.

At your first post after mummyjaygirls asked for clarification I immediately went online and checked them out. When I saw where they wrote debit card cannot be accepted I was forlorn and went back to Iqas and actually paid despite my sceptism at the new delivery times.I actually chose them since they do not verify if the mail has the proper markings as the news I got from my school as per their Wes proceedure was not encouraging.
When this your second clarification came I was quite mad at myself for going ahead to pay at Iqas and am actually thinking of cancelling the transaction with my bank if possible and going back to bcit/ices.
Before I go ahead and cancel of it is possible kindly confirm you used Nigerian debit card for your payment .
Thanks
I used a dollar credit card. But I think i saw some forums were some foreign dudes confirmed paying with a debit card.

I was about to initiate a payment for them yesterday. Thank God it didn't go. I will humbly do Wes and pray that the schools shouldn't strike.
Why is everyone bent on using IQAS and WES. I used ICES (BCIT) and got it less than 4 weeks after they received my documents. That was abt 1.5months ago.

The only con is that that they dont send a soft copy, rather u are sent 2 hard copies.

mine was like that too. worse still, i scanned the thumbprinted form to someone in lagos to help me process it. He downloaded d forms in black n white .....before d stampings and markings.
so what i got back by courier was a black n white finger prints form( thumbprint was black) with colored stamps and d main colored pcc.
I even initially uploaded only the colored naija pcc without the thumbprints form.
I then read here that it was common practice to upload all of them.

I later raised a CSE to correct another different pcc but used the opportunity to rescan all of the pcc and finger print form for both my spouse n I, all in color(including my black n white thumbprints)...I included a gracefilled LOE.

All this long drama gave me the highest fears.......but then mercy prevailed..
my VOs must have been a lenient bunch.
my God must have been wide awake on my case as my AOR to PPR was 103 days.
Nice one. So i shouldn't have any issues as the black and white finger print forms have colored stamps and writings on them. Right? It was given to me that way from Alagbon

One more thing, the finger print form (CRO 21) given to me was in black and white, though the stamps are all colored. The certificate is definitely colored as well. Hope this is not an issue.

Winchman please answer this.
I've been on my transcript journey since April, and they are yet to send it to IQAS.

Everyday stories.

Sadly I can't go to school because of work.
You need to contact the helpdesk and possibly tip the woman in charge with some little cash. I did the same and after 5.5 weeks my transcript was sent. I got the helpdesk contact thru a friend. I called virtualy twice every week to no avail. I eventually had to send a contact in owerri to physically handover a tip and in One week my transcript left FUTO.

Contact me to share the contact with you.
