The funny side of our polity is that after Barack Obama's victory every body went to the press hailing the Election as though they will allow similar scenario here even when it is obvious that their candidate is the unpopular one. |

I suppose because that child is your first, it is most likely that you guys have always carried the child. Don,t carry that child so often, allow the child to push itself arround keep things arround him/her and let the child get them without assistant. That way those limbs will start getting strong through those exercises. Be rest assured that in no time everything will be alright. |

Religion / Suit Against God Thrown Out Over Lack Of Address by Truequest(m): 9:01am On Oct 16, 2008 |
LINCOLN, Neb. - A judge has thrown out a Nebraska legislator's lawsuit against God, saying the Almighty wasn't properly served due to his unlisted home address. State Sen. Ernie Chambers filed the lawsuit last year seeking a permanent injunction against God. He said God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents in Omaha, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants." Chambers has said he filed the lawsuit to make the point that everyone should have access to the courts regardless of whether they are rich or poor. On Tuesday, however, Douglas County District Court Judge Marlon Polk ruled that under state law a plaintiff must have access to the defendant for a lawsuit to move forward. "Given that this court finds that there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant this action will be dismissed with prejudice," Polk wrote. Chambers, who graduated from law school but never took the bar exam, thinks he's found a hole in the judge's ruling. "The court itself acknowledges the existence of God," Chambers said Wednesday. "A consequence of that acknowledgment is a recognition of God's omniscience." Therefore, Chambers said, "Since God knows everything, God has notice of this lawsuit." Chambers has 30 days to decide whether to appeal. He said he hasn't decided yet. Chambers, who has served a record 38 years in the Nebraska Legislature, is not returning next year because of term limits. He skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians. |

Peter, 28, was apparently angry that the conference was conducted mostly in German and responded by answering the few English questions posed to him in Nigerian. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/10102008/3/champion-boxer-klitschko-ready-roll-years.html |

nyabinghi: I want to believe that you are joking than take you serious; now let's look at the senario, there was a post match conference where the boxers were expected to address the press. Klitschiko came up instead of speaking in English he switched to german knowing well that Samuel does not understand and there was no interpreter, Peter came up they thought he will speak in English he refused and spoke to them in Ibibio. Don't forget it is all about intimidation. On literate level don't be too sure, as you might not be more literate than Sam. |

It's no longer news that Nigeria’s World Boxing Council heavyweight champion, Samuel Peter, will enter the ring tonight to defend his belt against his Ukrainian challenger, Vitali Klitschko. But the news is that during their post match conference in Germany, Klitschiko spoke to the press in german, Peter was then expected to speak in English the guy refused and addressed the crowd in IBIBIO can you beat that? This to me is the height of confidence, go Peter go Peter Nigeria is behind |

Having considered the arguement of the opposition parties in Lagos particularly PDP and ANPP over the creation of 37 development areas in Lagos. I was left wondering if they are arguing in the interest of Lagos State and Lagosians or just for political reasons. Let's face if Lagos succeeds with the 20 LGA and 37 LCDA it will be to the benefit of Lagos State. In the light of this fact I am personal uncomfortable when I see Lagosians telling the world that Lagos should revert to 20 LGA as a condition for participation in the LGA polls. That' my Opinion what do you think |

@ poster I have reasons to be more inclined to what you are saying, cos I'm not comfortable the way his stand on a lot of issues. But like I said it is Americans' problems and not mine or better said not ours. |

I have honestly refused to be pulled into what has now become 'Obamanamia' for some of the reasons stated by Davidif and also I really can't place him on several issues and most of all is that, it is Americans' problem determining who their next president will be and not mine. |
Politics / Re: What If The Independence Hadn’t Been 1960? by Truequest(m): 12:11pm On Oct 01, 2008 |
So many things has happened over the years. In my opinion, independence was a good oppurtunity for us to proove that we can do it ourselves, Singaporeans got their independance after we got ours and their nation today is a testimony that they made good use of the oppurtunity. On another angle maybe we were not fully prepared for it when we got it, just wondering aloud. |
Politics / What If The Independence Hadn’t Been 1960? by Truequest(m): 11:00am On Oct 01, 2008 |
Recently, I saw this quote somewhere, “There are two tragedies in life: one is not getting what you want; the other is getting it.” How apt for Nigeria at 48, I thought. When the nationalists and the nation’s founding fathers like Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Sir Tafawa Balewa were fighting for the independence in the 1950s, what picture of Nigeria’s future did they have in their minds? What was the Nigeria of their dreams? Where did they think we were going as a young nation, and what propelled them to fight tenaciously for the nation’s independence? That they were able to achieve it without blood-flow as was the case in Kenya and South Africa points to something about those nationalists. It attests to their intellect, diplomacy, tact and, of course, the humaneness of the colonial masters. To have fought tenaciously for the independence and achieved it is commendable, but what has become of us since then? What are the things that we can readily point to as having done well since October 1, 1960? Take the civil service in the pre-independence era as an example; civil servants were cultured, hard working, ethical, and exuded a great sense of discipline. Reading through the memoirs of the set of Nigerians who worked under the white colonial masters then, we see a dedicated corps of people who were fiercely proud of being called civil servants. One could see a work force that was satisfied with the living wages they were being paid at that time. It would have been considered beyond their dignity asking for bribes to supplement their pay, unlike these days when collecting bribes is not even a discreet thing anymore. Nowadays, people obtain chieftaincy titles in their communities even when it is obvious that a kobo of the wealth they flaunt was not gotten honestly. Under colonial rule, our leaders could not embezzle so many billions with impunity as they do now. But is it only in the civil service that we have experienced a culture of deterioration? No. Almost everything we have embarked on since the time we have been left on our own has been jeopardized, abused, misused or destroyed. In terms of governance, Nigeria has not done satisfactorily well. At 48, the country is still in search of a man who will be genuinely interested in building the nation; a servant leader in the true sense of the word (and not one called so as a matter of mere sloganeering). The nation still needs a leader with a vision and not agenda or stop gap, knee jerk, palliative measure approach to governance and administrative issues. Nigeria is in dire need of someone who will not only recognise the problems and give political speeches to assuage flaring tempers but a leader who will himself pick up the shovel and begin to put one building block on another. Then, fellow Nigerians would rightly gauge his seriousness and willingness at nation building and readily follow. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20081001381253 I kind of imagined what it would have been like if we had achieved independence say in 1980 instead of 1960. Would our fortune had been different? I'm tempted to accept that it would have been better, but well what do you think? |
