Politics / Efcc Arrests Kenny Martins, Two Others by Truequest(m): 2:56pm On Jun 19, 2008
INDICATIONS emerged on Wednesday that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested the National Coordinator of the Police Equipment Foundation, Mr Kenny Martins.

Our correspondent‘s investigation also revealed that Martins was being detained at the EFFC‘s office in Abuja.

His present ordeal might not be unconnected with his alleged role in the management of the controversial N50bn PEF funds.

The anti-graft agency was also said to have arrested two other associates of Martins, including Alhaji Ibrahim Dumuje.

A source at the EFCC also told our correspondent, ”I can tell you authoritatively that Martins and his two associates are with us.

“The arrest of Martins was a sequel to two separate petitions sent to us by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa‘ad Abubakar, and a non-governmental organisation, the Integrity Group of Nigeria.

patience after 3 years of official marriage proposal,
Patience after six months of waiting to hear from God?

Let me be patience too!

I can see you are tired of that word, My dear listen that is the first and final word in marriage.
As a married man I can tell better. She said she want to hear from God not her friends, then allow
her, except if your friend (or is it you) is not sure of himself. The God she is waiting to hear from is
your God also. So calmness will do else you spoil what you have spent years to build.
Listen the ladies that spoke before me they make sense.
As a man I know how it feels especially when there are guys around.

Next step without being fussy, call her and ask her if she has prayed through.
Don't loose your cool. I trust the God that loves you so much will make all grace abound towards you.
Trust Him He will give you the best that same Lady or another if need be.

Can I tell you something a bit different from all that you have heard?
1. Forgive her. (I'm not saying you should continue the monthly allowance though).
2. Put all the loss behind you.
3. Focus on making more money to acquire another property.
4. Maintain a cautious distance but bear no grudge.
God will make all things work out for your own good.
God bless.

I have all the recipes, this is a technique that obviosly needs supervision from a native hand. I think I just won't bother at all. Judging by what Lakanye said there is little point in me wasting time and money because igbo kinship doesnt marry oyinbo for lifetime, he got his greencard so what what more does he want. Just I wanted to please him and somehow thought that making ofe this and ofe that would make him want to see how much I do care about him and want to make the marriage work. I was quite hopeful up until Lakanya and method man posted her honest, realistic observations.

okoro wan greencard she wants love. Thanks methodman.

JUST CAN'T IMAGINE THAT A TOTAL STRANGER'S COMMENT ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR HUSBAND WILL MAKE SUCH IMPRESSION ON YOU.

Just give me a moment, does this methodman know your husband or what he feels for you? Did you not say earlier that he eats the food you make and does not complain, but you just wanted him to eat more. This is kind of scary! You shouldn't use a complete stranger's comment to judge your husband please. I can tell you that most of the posts here are more of jokes and sarcasm that should not be taken serious. Quite a number of great ladies have give you some recipe and advices, could you focus on those ones and leave those trying to interpret the mind of a man they know nothing about.

Basically it will boil down to you standing up for the choice you made. God bless you, wishing you a successful marriage.

What will be your reaction if I suddenly tell you that I'm afraid to go to my house. Especially if I were one time the Chief executive plus His Excellency who uptil last year had everyone at my beck and call. Could it it be that I like the proverbial "FOWL has farted so the ground is now after me?" This was the situation the ex Governor of the oil rich state found himself when he was invited by Justice Kayode Esho to give evidence in the Truth and Reconciliation Commision recently.

Dr Peter Odili, the former Governor of Rivers State, and Dr. Ebiye Sekibo, the former Secretary to the state government and later the Minister of Transport, have expressed fears over coming to Port Harcourt, the state capital, to testify at the Rivers State Truth and Reconciliation Commission, because they were scared of their safety.
Justice Kayode Esho (retired),Chairman of the Commission, told the bewildered people of the state and Nigerians that the Commission would be relocating to Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, to assuage the fears of the two principal witnesses so that Nigerians could hear their own side of the story

Politics / Obasanjo Million Times Worse Than Abacha –david-west by Truequest(m): 1:12pm On Jun 13, 2008
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Professor Tam David-West, says that there was no ground for comparison between the late maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha, and immediate past President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
David-West, who was reacting to recent upsurge in posthumous tributes being showered on the late military ruler, told Daily Sun in a telephone chat that Abacha was better than Obasanjo, who professed to be a moral preacher.

The renowned Professor of Virology, however, observed that Abacha, as he knew him, was a complex man who meant different things to different kinds of people in every stage of his life.

He said: “I take note of the avalanche of tributes, posthumously paid to General Sani Abacha on the 10th anniversary of his passing on. I am not condoning any proved sin of Abacha, but one thing I owe his memory is that Nigerians have addressed themselves to Abacha, the person.
“I have known him for over 25 years before he became the Head of State. That was in 1975 when I was commissioner for education in Rivers State, under General Zamani Lekwot as military governor of the state. Abacha was then the brigade commander in Port Harcourt.

“Those who were saying Abacha did not steal may not be wrong. They should know better. But comparing him (Abacha) with Obasanjo is not fair. Obasanjo, who posed as a moral preacher, is worst than Abacha. Abacha is better; he is an angel compared with Obasanjo. Whether he stole money or not, I don’t know. I am not in position to know. But, we have heard and seen what Obasanjo and his daughter did to Nigeria.”

According to David-West, Abacha was a misunderstood man because he was like a pack of cards with different characters and meaning to different people.

“He was a very strict man. For 24 years, I never saw Abacha take more than tea. But there are some people who saw him drinking Gulder at parties. So, what I am saying is that Abacha was a very misunderstood man. There were several Abachas like there are pack of cards. Every card has a character on it. Abacha is like a pack of cards. So, what you react to at a particular time depends on a particular card you see at the time,” David-West added.

He stated that while Abacha denied him ticket to go abroad in 1989 to treat his wounds, due to Abacha’s miserly posture, the same Abacha doled out $10 million to his former Minister of Finance, Chief Anthony Ani, when the latter complained to him that he was broke.

A housewife, Mrs. Ganiyat Salami, 27, residing at 146, Ipaja Road, Agege, Lagos, has stabbed her husband, Mr. Afeez Salami, to death over disagreement on feeding allowance. P.M.News investigations revealed that the deceased was stabbed to death by the wife during a scuffle which arose over disagreement in the feeding allowance provided by the man.“It all happened on Thursday afternoon when my husband refused to give me the amount he was supposed to give me for our feeding allowance. He fought with me and injured me. Then, I used a bottle to fight him back. I did not know that he was seriously wounded. I did not mean to kill him,” the wife who is now being detained at a cell at the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) told P.M.News.

Police sources told P.M.News that the deceased, a bus conductor, was hit in the head with a bottle by his wife who was outraged by the meagre feeding allowance.

Mrs. Salami who had three children for the deceased is to be charged for murder soon, a police source told P.M.News.Adebisi Oyebade.

Politics / Lawyers: June 12 Bankrupted Mko by Truequest(m): 11:44am On Jun 10, 2008
A few days to the 15th anniversary of the annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential election, the lawyers of the acclaimed winner, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, are claiming that he might have been bankrupted by the ill-fated poll.
One of the administrators to Abiola’s estate, Edwards Angell Palmers & Dodge, a British law firm, has said that the politician died bankrupt.
Gloria Abiola, one of the late business icon's wives, had earlier alleged that her husband's assets were being gradually converted by top international banks and legal firms with a view to declaring him bankrupt.
Apparently reacting to the recent publications by THISDAY newspaper, Edwards Angell Palmers & Dodge, in a letter dated May 30, 2008 to the Abiola family, wrote that it wanted to make a clarification about the estate of the late politician known to the firm.
The firm disclosed that Abiola was indebted to some organisations and had gone bankrupt because of his involvement in politics in 1993, which led to his incarceration and subsequent death.
The firm said that there were no substantial funds being withheld by international banks as some of the monies had been used by Kola Abiola to clear his father’s debts.
“If some huge sum existed offshore, the question that has to be asked is why was it not used during Chief’s lifetime to discharge this indebtedness? We believe as was set out in the 3rd March report, that Chief MKO Abiola, for all his fabled wealth prior to his election campaign, was effectively bankrupted by his efforts. The only way in which he would have been able to restore his fortune would have been to assume the office which was so summarily and brutally denied him," the firm said.
The firm expressed dismay about the publication of THISDAY online of May 27, 2008 in which Gloria alleged that foreign firms were sitting on her husband’s assets and that the 1989 version of Abiola’s will, which she probated, was “forged”.
An official source told THISDAY that the reason the Federal Government was not taking interest in the allegation made against some foreign firms that handled Abiola’s estate was because it was private money that was involved and not government resources.
Even at that, investigation has revealed that Mrs. Abiola’s allegation prompted the Federal Goverment to reopen the issue of the monies stashed overseas by the former military head of state, General Sani Abacha.
This, a source added, necessitated the clarification last week by the Embassy of Switzerland's Charge D'Affairs, Mr. Fabio Bairdi, that it had returned all monies stolen by the former Head of State without any conditions as to how the money should be spent.
But the letter by Edwards Angell Palmers & Dodge stated that it would take sometime for the administrators to produce the accounts of Abiola, the reason being that there were inherent difficulties in putting value on many of the assets.
"This is particularly true in respect of property holdings, where it is likely that the only realistic method of obtaining an idea of values will be to invite offers for the various properties. With regards to shares, information is available on publicly quoted companies where the shareholding is known.
“It is, however, possible that the chief held shares in other companies. It seems that in Nigeria, it is necessary to claim dividends from each individual company in which shares are held. Without a record of those companies it will in theory be necessary for the Estate to write officially to every listed company to find out whether the late chief is on their list of unclaimed dividends. There is unfortunately no such thing as a central dividend database," the firm wrote.
The letter added that as at October 10, 1993 when the politician and philanthropist was incarcerated, the overdrawn balances of Abiola's group account amounted to N104, 384,473, which is equivalent of $4,730,685, adding that about half of the indebtedness had been incurred by Summit Oil and half by Abiola Farms Limited.
This indebtedness, according to the letter, was gradually reduced during the time that Abiola was in prison.
The overall position at the end of 2006 was, however, still that the deficit of the estate exceeded N500 million ($6,495,000). Even after allowing for payment of school fees by Kola Abiola, there was a deficit at the end of 2006 of approximately N450 million ($5,845, 500), the letter stated.
However, the claim about payment of school fees contrasts sharply with the one earlier made against the administrators by Gloria Abiola who said that the reason she and her children were in court was because they had been subjected to untold hardship by the administrators and executors of the Will since the demise of their benefactor.
Further excerpts from the letter by the foreign administrators read: "Bearing in mind the deficit of the Nigerian estate shown by these accounts and the fact that income received by the estate since the chief’s death has had to be applied to payment of legal costs and other expenses, as well as payment of pecuniary legacies, it will be understood that, without further income, the funds required to put in hand the necessary work on valuations are not readily available at the present time. The administrators are however actively exploring solutions to these problems and hope to be able to report further progress in the next month meeting."
The administrators also reacted to the allegation that the 1989 Will made by late Abiola was a forged document, saying they were seriously concerned about the allegation.
THISDAY had on of March 27, 2008 reported Gloria Abiola's claim that some foreign banks and law firms were sitting on MKO's assets.
THISDAY had also followed up the story with an interview with Gloria who claimed that the 1989 Will given to him by one Rodney Timpson was a photocopy and she now had every reason to believe that it was a forged document.
"We never saw the 1989 version of the Will. I admit that I probated the Will with a photocopy given to me. We are insisting that the trustees of the Will should be reconstituted with a mandate to divulge to the beneficiaries all information relating to the estate," she said.
She said that since the 1989 Will had become controversial and she probated it, the only way to test its validity was for her to return to court so that the court could order a fingerprint of the Will.
But the administrators in the letter to Sururat Abiola said: “The administrators are extremely concerned at the allegations which appear to be raised in respect of the 1989 Will. As you and your clients are well aware, the cost to the estate of proving the validity of the 1989 Will has been huge.
"The action now apparently being taken by your client threatens to engulf the estate in yet further extensive legal costs, which will no doubt, be exacerbated by indemnity claims being made against the estate by the institutions which are being sued."
Already the plaintiffs via a motion ex-parte have applied for an order of the court to serve the writ of summons on the defendants outside Nigeria through their respective country’s embassies and also in Lagos, which is outside the jurisdiction of the court.
Other defendants in the suit apart from corporate defendants are, Mr. Rodney Timpson, Mr. Edward van Tongurin, Lesano Anstalt, Dr. Keicher, Mr. Frick Senior (the fiduciary) and Mr. Kola Abiola, Chairman, Bank PHB Plc.
In the writ, the plaintiffs claimed that they had suffered enough since the death of their benefactor, MKO Abiola, as those who were responsible to execute the will have "converted the advantage on themselves with the connivance of foreign banks."
Also, the plaintiffs claimed that the persons who were supposed to perform fiduciary duty had simply refused to fulfil their duty to the 77 beneficiaries of the Will allegedly done by the late business mogul.

I find this story mind boggling do you believe it.

Politics / Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by Truequest(m): 8:33pm On Jun 04, 2008
As Nigerians brace for another increase in the pump prices of petroleum products, civil society groups are calling for mass action to resist the increase.

Few days to the inception of President Umaru Yar’Adua’s government, the prices of the various products were increased, forcing the Nigerian Labour Congress and the civil society coalition to declare a mass action against the decision.

This forced the Federal Government to reduce the prices.

For instance Premium Motor Spirit otherwise called petrol was reduced from N75 per litre to N70.

The Federal Government also agreed with the labour leaders that there would be no increase for a period one year. This June marks the end of that period and there are indications that the government is surreptitiously increasing prices of petroleum products, starting with diesel.

Diesel now sells for between N140-N200 per litre and civil society groups have collectively agreed to fight the Federal Government before it would make official announcement on the price increase.

Though the diesel price hike is unofficial, they believe it might be a ploy by the government to test the people’s pulse before the actual announcement of the price increase.

Reacting to this development, the South-West Co-ordinator of the United Action for Democracy (UAD), Comrade Wale Balogun explained to P.M.News that the upper class in Nigeria is insensitive to the plight of the people.

According to him, the hike reflects a neo-colonialist system where neo-liberalism is practised for the purpose of profit maximisation by a few.

The Western world, he said, still dictates to Nigeria for the benefit of the few who keep holding to power. “They have started campaigning again for (fuel) price increase. The discovery of oil has become a curse than a blessing to the Nigerian people,” he said.

While calling for a mass action against the impending price increase, he said: “They are squeezing lives out of the people. No governor has achieved anything in the last one year. We have to be ready to sack this regime. There is no justice in Nigeria. There is no hope for Nigerians and the black race,” he added.

Comrade Gabriel Ojumah of the Citizens Right Watch (CRW) says government’s excuse for increasing fuel price remains the failure of the local refined products in the country’s refineries to meet up with the domestic needs of the people, thus prompting importation of the products at huge costs.

“The irony is that the world’s 8th largest producer of oil became one of the world highest importers of petroleum products. What a shame. This goes to show the incompetence and corruption in the system,” Comrade Ojumah said.

Furthermore, the comrade said, “misfits have been given sensitive appointments for no other reason than that they are PDP chieftains. Why is it on this one issue (fuel) that concerns the rest of us the masses that political solution has become unacceptable? Is petrol not more important to us all than PDP? For all we care, PDP can go up in flames, we still have many other political parties to choose from.”

Comrade Dagga Tolar of the Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) declares that Nigerians should not wait for the announcement of the increase before taking action.

He tasked the NLC to begin a mass agitation, adding “organising the working masses for a revolutionary overthrow becomes inevitable since we do not trust this system and leadership.”

According to him, the ideas and philosophies of those who govern the people determine whether the people “ate bread or not. Those who produce goods and services have the philosophy that they are only interested in their profit rather than satisfy the people’s needs,” adding that these same people have seized the Labour unions, saying the NLC made a mistake to have entered an agreement with the government on when next to increase fuel price.

The civil society groups stated that the major problem militating against a permanent solution to the incessant price increase was that the leadership of the labour union was being corrupted by the government. “The only way out is for the masses to move themselves away from this class and look for an alternative since the situation is rotten to the bone.

“A crisis is bound to come one day in Nigeria and Nigerians would take to the streets and fight,” one the groups said.

This call for mass action comes in the wake of a submission by constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, that Nigerians should be ready for a revolution.

Meanwhile, in view of the prevailing scarcity of petroleum products, especially kerosene and diesel in the Western part of the country, stakeholders of the Petroleum Products Marketers Corporation (PPMC), Western Zone, have called on the immediate intervention of the Federal Government and the concerned bodies.

In an open letter to President, Umaru Yar’Adua, after a stakeholders’ meeting comprising the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch of NUPENG (PTD) and Independent Marketers Branch of NUPENG (IMB), they stated that the petroleum products distributed in the Western Zone under NNPC system 2B, as it affects their business, has been critically viewed.

Although the stakeholders noted that there is a sharp reduction in the volume of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) being allocated to the NNPC and lack of proper surveillance on the petroleum pipeline on the part of the Federal Government, they agreed that there is non availability of Diesel and Kerosene which make the depots mono-productive for the past eight years.

It also identified excessive allocation of PPMC products to DAPMAN depots at the expense of the NNPC depots in system 2B.

Regarding the solution, the stakeholders urged the Federal Government to review upward, the volume of all grades of petroleum products for all depots in system 2B, in view of the daily consumption of petroleum products and that diesel and kerosene should be made available in all the depots without further delay.

Having noted that the defective separator at Mosini Depot has been responsible for non-pumping of the petroleum products to those under system 2B, the PPMC stakeholders further urged the Federal Government to replace the obsolete separator to allow its adequate pumping of kerosene and diesel.

at this rate most department will suffer from the perennial 'lack of funding' syndrome.

I don't think that will be the case remember that current oil price is almost twice the budgetted oil price. I think they should go to NASS and get permission to use part of the fund to subsidise it. If we add fuel crisis to food crisis na wahala o!

Indications are high that there may be hike in fuel price soon. This has brought to question one more time; when price of oil in the international market rises, who benefits in Nigeria? Is it the government and the oil companies only exculding all other Nigerians.

One would have expected that whenever the national government makes more money it should tickle down to the populace. I'm aware that talks are already on to decide the new pump price for pms. Diesel has since gone over the roof top. GOD HELP NIGERIA!

The age-long rivalry between supporters of English Premiership clubsides, Manchester United and Chelsea FC, took a tragic turn in Nigeria recently after the finals of the last UEFA Champions League as a man macheted his bosom friend to death.

The tragedy occurred during a heated argument between the two young men following the outcome of the match which Manchester United won.

P.M.News gathered that Christopher Udoh, a fan of Manchester United allegedly macheted his bosom friend, Elerus Patrick, a Chelsea FC fan to death as a result of argument at the end of the match.

According to the police at the State criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, where the matter is being investigated, the two friends who were next door neighbours in Ijanikin, near Badagry, had engaged in a serious argument over the two British teams and this degenerated into a fight.

The deceased, Patrick was said to have used a wood to hit Christopher, who in turn retaliated by dashing into his room and coming out with a sharp cutlass which he allegedly used to attack Patrick.

The victim was said to have become unconscious after the attack and was rushed to a private hospital but he died on the way.

Christopher was immediately arrested by policemen from Ijanikin police division and he was transferred to SCID, Panti, Yaba where he is currently being quizzed for alleged murder.

Police sources revealed that three witnesses have made useful statements to the police on the matter, and have volunteered to appear as state witnesses whenever the case was charged to court.

Meanwhile, the police have ordered a post-mortem to be carried out on the deceased to know the cause of his death.

The police have also said they will seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) on the matter.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Office (PPRO), Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the story.

Politics / Ribadu May Be Demoted And Retired! by Truequest(m): 8:07pm On Jun 02, 2008
Signals emerging from the Presidency and the Nigerian Police indicate that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the former boss of the Economic and Financial CrimesCommission (EFCC), may soon be demoted and then retired.

Sources at the weekend said the Presidency is worried about his popularity and what to do with him after his Kuru course. The only alternative left, according to our sources, is to retire him and “wish him good luck in his future endeavour.”

The anger against him by a coalition of forces ranging from President Umaru Yar’Adua, Michael Okiro, the police IG and former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida and a band of both serving and retired governors may not even allow him to leave without humiliation.

The scheme, according to our source, is to demote him to the post of a Deputy Commissioner of Police, which was his rank before he was promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police by the government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

P.M.News sources informed that the Police Service Commission may have to set up a committee to review all promotions carried out in the force within the last two years.

Neither the office of the IG, nor the commissioner will confirm this but our sources confirmed that his demotion and retirement will be announced as soon as he completes the course in Kuru.

The anger against Ribadu and his EFCC by the powerful, TheNEWS reported in its recent edition, may have to do with his investigation of the ex-governors on graft.

The former governors are said to have united with individuals such as Ibrahim Babangida who felt humiliated by the arrest and detention of his son, Alhaji Mohammed Babangida, about two years ago for money laundering and other corrupt offences.

Lined up against Ribadu are also Chief James Ibori who spent some time in detention while facing a charge of money laundering.

TheNEWS magazine in its current edition reported that Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is also leading the charge against Ribadu because he and his father, Dr. Olusola Saraki, are being investigated.

Source, revealed that the EFCC under Ribadu had investigated both father and son and was set to arrest and put on trial the older Saraki but the agency was dissuaded against it by Obsasnjo who pleaded that the man may be too weak to face the ordeal of a trial.

Even President Yar’Adua is said to harbour his own grudges against Ribadu. The investigation of local government Chairmen in Katsina State when Yar’Adua was governor, our sources said, was believed by him and his aide to be designed to humiliate his government.

Whatever love or admiration Yar’Adua may have had for Ribadu was said to have evaporated when towards the 2007 general elections he was said to have sought Ribadu’s support at the prompting of Obasanjo and Ribadu in a moment of indiscretion told Yar’Adua ‘his group’ had not decided on who to back yet.

Yar’Adua was said to have been angered by what his associates described as “Nuhu’s arrogance.”

Last Thursday when Yar’Adua was on an NTA progamme, he was asked to explain the circumstances surrounding the replacement of Ribadu as chairman of EFCC, and he replied that there is so much propaganda around the Ribadu case.

He expressed his dislike for Ribadu in a comment: “I am more of a believer in the system than in the individual,” he stated. When the questioner pursued further that it is the individual who makes the system, Yar’Adua simply moved on to other issues.
