When the likes of Mpele comes on to tell it to us the way we are, some will be shouting ban him! ban him! The sad aspect is that in a country as big as we are, with all human resources it is endowed with we can only present touts and mediocres to the world. How will you and I claim that we are sane. Just two days ago I was a fraud suspect for trying to use my own prepaid mastercard , note prepaid not credit card. God help us |

South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) has chosen Kgalema Motlanthe as caretaker president South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) has chosen a caretaker president to replace Thabo Mbeki. Sources within the party have named deputy leader Kgalema Motlanthe, an ally of party leader Jacob Zuma. Mr Zuma said on Monday the decision would only be formally announced when parliament meets - on Thursday - to vote on the appointment. Thabo Mbeki resigned on Sunday over claims of political interference in a corruption case against Mr Zuma. He denies the allegations but said he was stepping down at the request of the ANC in the interests of party unity. In his first comments on the case, Mr Zuma said it was one of the most difficult decisions in the ANC's history. But Archbishop Desmond Tutu said he was "deeply disturbed" by Mr Mbeki's forced resignation, saying the interests of the ANC had been put before those of the nation. "Our country deserves better. The way of retribution leads to a banana republic," he said. Mr Zuma, however, promised a smooth transition. |

ANC to nominate interim president South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), is due to nominate a caretaker president on Monday to replace Thabo Mbeki. Mr Mbeki formally resigned as president on Sunday, at the request of the ANC. But he has denied accusations of political interference in a corruption case against his rival, ANC leader Jacob Zuma. Correspondents says it is not yet clear who the party will chose to be the interim president of the country. The BBC's Peter Biles in Johannesburg says the party could nominate the parliamentary speaker, Baleka Mbete, but that the deputy leader of the country, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, is directly in line to take over from Mr Mbeki. In a televised address on Sunday night, Mr Mbeki said he had handed a resignation letter to the speaker of the National Assembly. He said he would leave his post as soon as a new president was chosen. The ANC has since been at pains to say that it wants Mbeki loyalists to remain in their posts in the interests of stability, says our correspondent. The main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, has said Mr Mbeki had been the victim of a power grab by Mr Zuma. Party leader Helen Zille said it would a "miscarriage of justice if Zuma was to get off the hook due to a legal technicality" |

Foreign Affairs / Obama Escapes Assassination: 4 Suspects Arrested, Rifles Recovered by Truequest(m): 4:36pm On Aug 26, 2008 |
The police in the United States have uncovered a ‘white supremacist’ plot to assassinate Democratic Party presidential candidate , Senator Barack Obama, barely 48 hours to the delivery of his acceptance speech at his party’s convention in Denver, Colorado. Several persons have been arrested with guns and ammunition while heading to the convention venue, the Daily Mail of London reported today, saying the arrest of the suspects was done on Sunday. One of the suspects told authorities they were going to shoot Obama from a vantage point using a rifle erected 750 yards away from the convention grounds. Police arrested 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell, after he was spotted driving erratically near Denver, where Mr. Obama is due to speak at the Democratic Party convention on Thursday. Officers recovered two high-powered rifles with telescopic scopes, camouflage clothing, walkie-talkies, wigs, a bulletproof vest, a spotting scope, licenses in the names of other people and 44 grams of the drug methamphetamine. Police alerted federal officials because of heightened security surrounding the Democratic convention, Dudley said. ‘Clearly, we found there are federal implications, otherwise we would not have notified them,’ Detective Marcus Dudley said. ‘The weapons clearly would cause great concern.’ Police went to a nearby hotel to contact an associate of Gartrell. But that man, identified as 33-year-old Shawn Robert Adolph, jumped out of a sixth floor window to escape detectives. Adolph broke an ankle in the fall and was captured moments later. Sources say he had a handcuff ring and was wearing a swastika, and is thought to have ties to white supremacist organisations. A third man - an associate of Gartrell and Adolph - Nathan Johnson, 32, was also arrested. He told authorities that the two men ‘planned to kill Barack Obama at his acceptance speech’. Johnson, along with his girlfriend, Natasha Gromek, are also under arrest on drug charges. The Secret Service, FBI, ATF and the joint terrorism task force are all investigating the alleged plot. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has scheduled a news conference for later today. The U.S. Attorney in Denver said it does not believe there is a credible threat to Obama or the convention. ‘It’s premature to say that it was a valid threat or that these folks have the ability to carry it out,’ said a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said the case was under investigation. ‘We’re absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado,’ Mr Eid said in a prepared statement. Nobel literature laureate, Doris Lessing, had earlier predicted that “If Barack Obama becomes the next US president, he will surely be assassinated. “Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him,” Lessing, 88, had told the Dagens Nyheter daily. Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Prize for Literature, said it might be better if Obama’s Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States. “The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama,” she had said. Hillary Clinton, during the Democratic party primaries, while explaining why she was staying on the race for a long time even when it became obvious that she was losing, said: “my husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June.” “We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June, in California,” she continued. “You know I just don’t understand it.” Many misunderstood this as death wish for Obama. http://thepmnews.com/2008/08/26/obama-escapes-assassination-4-suspects-arrested-rifles-recovered This is serious!!!!!!!!!! |

Kobojunkie: That's exactly my worries, they are educated minds, decision makers and people of influence. One educated mind in any region with educational disadvantage can mean thousands of other illiterates because whatever he says is viewed as the best. That's why we the 'elite' have to tone down and begin to look at each other more constructively, this will help us see the hidden goodness we have over looked all this while. |

Back to where I left off, take a look at the people living with you, are they all smart? Never go wrong? I mean they have their faults but you accomodate them, live with them. Those same people could start irritating you if you begin to dwell on their faults and short comings. Believe me this thing is real, it happens. |

Kobojunkie: Can we say we are dealing with the hate judging by the way we have handled issues on this forum? Don't get me wrong I'm not out to win an arguement. Like I said I pointed out rather than deal with the hate we are fueling it to say the least. In this forum we have topics like "why do south hate north", "to hell with your oil north tells south" this things are not good for us. On your second paragraph , I think we agree on something there, it is the government, that is the issue. |

Kobojunkie: If we begin to say good things about one another I can tell you that we will begin to see those good we talk about those people. I know what I'm saying every tribe has some wonderful trait that are very good, to be fair. I also know that after creation God said that all his creatures are good. Not a chance in hell based on factual evidence but we could had been good neighbours and partners to each other, where everybody knew their bounderies, limits and strong points. No nothing brings progress more than mutual respect and not through forced respect. Mutual respect is exactly what I'm preaching here my dear Eziachi |

I for one do not hate northerners and respect everyone's right to life BUT it is evident that the individuals who inhabit that region of Nigeria be it the Elite class or the masses have a very different view point in life in regards to their way of life My dear I love your response but can I tell you from experience, the masses have no problem. They simply respond to what the elite tell them. It is the elite that knows what goes on in government, it is the elite that forge figures, it is the elite that tell them that so and so because he is from xyz tribe he is less a human. I mean elite from North and South. I believe we can tone it down and chart a new course for our people by saying nice things about each other. Some of us good things about the Arabs, others say good things about the Americans why not about the Hausa, Igbo, Ijaw, Urhobo and Yoruba man. Honestly, we can change it is possible to say good things about one another. |

Dear elite Nigerians, What I'm about to write now is purely my opinion as regards the HATE MESSAGES we have been dishing out on this forum. Yes I called you an elite because if you are like the majority on the street, you will not have the articulation to comment on issues the way you have been doing. What you don't know is that is that we are surreptitiously spreading HATRED, I have travelled round the country to know that simple comments can ignite fire that will leave hundreds dead if not thousands. Have you considered the damage some of the things you have posted about the Northerners have done to their pride. What of the post against the Niger Deltans, The Easterners and Westerners. I cannot forget Gideon Orkar's coup in a hurry. Some of us maybe we find it easy to say what we say beause we live in our own enclosure. But have you considered your relatives who live in the midst of those people you speak against. Finally, remember that other nationals visit this forum, are you not disturbed that you an elite make them to see us as easy prey, because a single broom is usually easy to break. I therefore I appeal to Seun to check what some of us post on this forum for the good of our nation and for the good of us all. God bless Nigeria and her people. |

naijaking1: One person must take the initiative and as expected the elder should and that is what Ohaneze has done. You can't separate yourself from you. On the militants yes what they are doing might not be the best but are we going to continue like this? I think there should be an end and one of the ways is thru dialogue and assuring the militants that they have been forgiven. I think that will be a way forward. |
