oldie:

Yes you are!
Awo did whatever he did as a political leader not as a Yoruba leader
And nobody is diminishing what he achieved. He was a great man
But there are too many opportunists who want to use Awo's achievements to ascend
to some relevance based on nothing but clanishness, mediocrity and stolen wealth.

Ok if that's what you mean.

oldie:

We get sucked into this senseless, myopic and opportunistic definitions of leadership
Political leadership is quite different from ethnic leadership
What does Fulani/Hausa/Ijaw/Igbo/Yoruba etc leadership mean?
Why don't we all start talking and demanding for Nigerian leaders?

I agree with Chief Akinjide on this
Time to move on,

No, just say Pa Awo's contribution is not enough
Or am I missing something?

Chief Akinjide is entitled to his opinion, though I find disturbing his view on Pa Awo. You can't wish away his enormous contribution and dogged fight for the emancipation of the Yoruba race.
Politics / Rubbish! Neither Awo Nor Adesanya Was Yoruba Leader –akinjide by Truequest(m): 11:02am On May 24, 2008
With the vacuum believed to have been created, following the passage of Chief Abraham Adesanya and the ensuing succession tussle that has become a feeding frenzy for the media, foremost lawyer, Chief Richard Akinjide has dismissed the existence of a void in the Yoruba leadership, insisting that at no time in the history of the Yoruba had there been a leader.

In a chat with Saturday Sun in Lagos, former Education minister in the first republic said it is erroneous for any right thinking person to imagine that the death of a leader of a political association or party could be equated with the absence of leadership of a race. According to him, not even the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo or Adesanya could be regarded as Yoruba leaders, adding that there were arrowheads of their political family.

“There is no time in the history of Yorubaland that the Yoruba have got a leader. The Yorubas have always got leaders.
When Awolowo was a leader of the Action Group, you also had Adegoke Adelabu and there was also Braithwait who were also leaders. You had people like Akintola, Adegbenro, later Adesanya, Ajasin, Kola Balogun. Throughout the history of the Yoruba, they had never had one leader. Yoruba have always had several leaders.”

While cautioning that political leadership should not be misconstrued for the leadership of a race, Akinjide, famous for his defense of the twelve-two-third result of the 1979 presidential result said the late Adesanya, who was the leader of the Afenifere, which he said is another name for the Action Group, UPN and the AD could not be described as his (Akinjide) leader, since he does not belong to his political clan.

“I am not a member of that group. I have never been a member of the Afenifere and there are other millions of Yoruba who are not members of the Afenifere. So, how can you say their leader is my leader as a Yoruba man? But Afenifere have their leader just as the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE). You cannot tell me that when the Afenifere elects their own leader, then he becomes the leader of Adebayo Adeyinka who is not their member. So, there is a lot of confusion created by the press because they equate the leadership of a political party, like the Action Group, UPN or AD with the leadership of the Yoruba, which is not true.”

Reacting to claim by Chief Lamidi Adedibu that he is not a factor to be reckoned with in the politics of the Yoruba and by extension Oyo, Akinjide, while reeling out his resume to underscore his lofty political image, said rather than dignify the man widely humoured as the strong man of Ibadan politics, he would instead maintain his silence as it was the best answer for a fool yet to come to terms with his foolery.

BEIJING, China (AP) -- Photographer Wang Qiang had just shot the bride- and groom-to-be in one pose and was waiting for the makeup artist to help them change clothes when the ground started shaking.

The first sounds he heard were of stones falling from the 100-year-old church nearby.

"I shouted to people, 'Run! Run!"' Wang said Thursday night by phone. "The ground shook and we couldn't see anything in the dust."

Wang's and other photographers' wedding shoots for five couples on the afternoon of May 12 in Bailu town turned into an eerie record of China's deadliest natural disaster in a generation. The photos show the young women in wedding dresses, dusty and shaken, with the ruins of China's deadly earthquake around her. Wang refused to give the couples' names, citing privacy.

The decrepit Church of the Annunciation, built under the direction of French priests 100 years ago outside the city of Pengzhou, has been a popular spot for wedding photos in recent years, even though it was damaged long ago by landslides. The earthquake left it in tatters.

"The building collapsed within about 10 seconds," said Wang, who lives in Chengdu, the capital of hard-hit Sichuan province.

Wang's photo shows a half-cracked, half-shattered facade with its ruins spilling from the front door. Clouds of dust from the magnitude-7.9 earthquake still floated in the air.

When the dust had settled, everyone stood up and realized they were all safe, Wang said. His photos show them standing in disbelief, covering their mouths, wiping dust from their hair. A bride-to-be from another photo shoot pulls up her dress, revealing sneakers.

They tried to return down the mountain to town, but villagers told them the way was blocked. They spent the night in a tent and made it down the next day. A helpful truck driver took them part of the way. Wang shot members of the wedding group climbing into the back, while one groom-to-be, still in his white tux, holds a delicate-looking parasol over some of the women.

"We could still hear landslides," Wang wrote later in his online diary.

Wang quickly turned from wedding photographer to journalist. He shot residents huddling under a tarp, relief workers climbing over broken buildings, a hillside that was raw from sliding stones.

"I shot these photos out of the instinct of a photographer," he said.

Wang has put the photos on his blog, calling it "Survivors of the Storm." One photo in the middle stands out from the rest. It's of the couple just before the earthquake, their arms around each other, smiling and clean.

"What is happiness, happiness is safe and sound," the caption says. "Having gone through a life-and-death test, they surely will clasp hands and grow old together."
When the dust had settled, everyone stood up and realized they were all safe, Wang said. His photos show them standing in disbelief, covering their mouths, wiping dust from their hair. A bride-to-be from another photo shoot pulls up her dress, revealing sneakers.

[size=14pt]I think some pple are deliberately on this thread to divert attention from the issue on ground.
Xenophobia is the issue in question here, shouldn't this matter be discussed rather than all this side talks. I think no one has the right to take another man's life. It is not about illegal immigrant but all foreigners - students, those who were posted by their organizations to SA, investors, Visitors and even those who are there for training. Some of you that are attacking your brethren if you had visited SA now your view would have been different.

As I said earlier I miss the courage and boldness of Muritala, Idiagbon and Abacha. If these men were still in power the story sure would have been different. [/size]

For once I remember Abacha, I also remember Idiagbon while not forgetting Muritala The Great Prophet all of blessed memory. I think there is a time in a nation that it needs a bold and dogged leader. This issue does not require begging. How I wish military air craft and a naval ship will be sent to SA to evacuate all our nationals. Call back our Ambassador and see if this people will not sit up. I heard in a TV programme how The Great Prophet react when some east African country did similar thing in the 70s

Sports / An Amputee To Contest With Fasuba In Olympics! by Truequest(m): 3:48pm On May 16, 2008
Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee sprinter who was barred from able-bodied competition in January, will be allowed to pursue his dream of qualifying for the Olympic Games after an unexpected decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Court, an international panel which has final say over legal matters in sport, overturned the International Association of Athletics Federations' ban, ruling in effect that Pistorius' carbon fiber prosthetic blades do not give him an unfair advantage.

The court, an international panel that is the final arbiter on legal disputes in sports, came to a decision after hearing expert testimony from Pistorius's camp and the IAAF, track and field's governing body, on April 29 and 30 in Lausanne, Switzerland. It published its opinion in a statement at 9 a.m., Eastern time. The IAAF had declared Pistorius ineligible for able-bodied competition in January despite originally clearing him to compete last spring, pending further investigation. Pistorius will be allowed to resume his efforts immediately.

That investigation came last November when the IAAF sponsored three days of testing on Pistorius, who gave his consent, in Cologne, Germany, under the supervision of Peter Brüggemann, a professor at the German Sport University.

Brüggemann found that the prosthetics, known as Cheetahs, were more efficient than a human ankle. He also found that they could return energy in maximum speed sprinting and that Pistorius was able to keep up with a few able-bodied sprinters while expending about 25 percent less energy. Based on Brüggemann's report, the IAAF decided that Pistorius would not be allowed to compete.

Pistorius's lawyers, however, argued that the results of the study did not provide enough evidence to make a decision and lodged an appeal in February.

Politics / Jakande Estates To Be Demolished by Truequest(m): 4:50pm On May 15, 2008
Estates built across Lagos State by the former Governor of the state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, for the masses, are soon to be demolished.

Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Dele Onabokun, disclosed in Lagos at a news conference yesterday that the popular Jakande Estates would be demolished and redeveloped.

Onabokun stated that the Jakande housing model was introduced in the 80s to solve the problem of acute shortage of housing in the state, adding that the houses were built to last for about 20 years.

“We have now discovered that these houses have limitations. In fact, some of those buildings have collapsed and some cannot last for more than 25 years.

“In fact, we visited one of the estates at Iliasan and they are in deplorable condition. We are planning to redeveloped the whole of that place.

“Some of these houses will be demolished and redeveloped. The life-span of an average building is about 50 years. We want to lay emphasis on building structures that will last a life time or a minimum of 50 years,” he stated.

On the fate of the occupants who bought the flats, he said they would be relocated.

Onabokun said the plan of the ministry was to continue to partner with the private sector towards the provision of affordable housing for citizens of the state.

“To this end, applications are still being considered from 27 developers who intend to construct over 20,000 housing units in about 10 locations across Lagos State.

“Some of these proposals have been appraised by the inter-ministerial committee set up by the governor. To date, approvals for the commencement of eight of those projects have been obtained,” he stated.

The commissioner added that his ministry would also be constructing, under direct labour, and award of contracts, some 2,000 housing units in seven locations across the state.

According to him, “The following house types will be constructed: One and two bedroom flats, three bedroom flats, three and four bedroom luxury flats, three and four bedroom terrace houses, three and four bedroom semi-detached houses and three bedroom detached houses.

“The delivery period for the housing estates ranges from six months to 60 months. While most of the projects are expected to be completed by 2011, others will be executed in phases and therefore, extend beyond the life of this present administration.”

That he fought for their independent does not make him the sole inheritor of the whole state of Zimbabwe, he should allow other well meaning Zimbabweans contribute their quota, and stop this madness in the name of governance.

Frizy:

Name in Full- Adedibu Lamidi

A ruthless politician in Ibadan. Feared by many, and opposed by the godly. This man maybe in his 80s but he proclaimed openly that he will never quit politics even till his grave. Adedibu aka Baba Omolete is known for violence, corruption and tyranny over the Governors he puts to power; especially through rigging. Adedibu can be outspoken by many as simply "above the law".

During the Obasanjo administration, Adedibu was involved in a plot to outstrip the then Governor of Oyo State- Ladoja. He successful handed power to his deputy who betrayed the former Governor because of power and money. Throughout the violence, the president either pretended to be unaware or was supportive of the scheme Adedibu plotted. The claim then was that the former Governor failed in his duties (which is very unclear till date) and the legistators about 17 out of 30 voted him out.

Adedibu may not be properly educated but his fierce and arrogant manner that includes but may not be limited to this is the use of thugs called Area boys to terriorize the public. In Molete, during the last election, the machines used by INEC a electoral body in Nigeria, were placed in his compound. Anyone that had the right to vote in his constituency had to accept the PDP candiate- Alao Akala(who is now the Governor) or he faces the beating of his life. However, if you vote for PDP- N200 is guaranteed cool. Adedibu is also reported to be fetish.

Although he may have survived his illness, it is believed that he assumes he lives forever. Any man who supports this man either by donating his/her "taxes" to him or simply in a conversation should know that God is watching and God never likes corruptors!

Waooo! Frizy, what a comprehensive lecture. I think I should call this Adedibu 101. This should be a compulsory course for all political students.

I observed that this thread has been around for some time, just in case you check the thread again. This is my advice; 1. Sit your wife down and let her know how you feel, make her understand that a change is imperative. If that fails, then if your family belong to any social group, preferably a church, talk to your leaders, and ask for their intervention. Her mother will also be of help. But as much as possible see if you can resolve it between yourselves. I wish you best of LUCK.
Politics / Nigerians Move Against British Airways by Truequest(m): 11:34am On May 12, 2008
Nigerians have begun to campaign for the boycott of British Airways (BA) flights following the shabby treatment of Nigerians on the flight by the airline’s officials and the police.

With effect from 15 May this year, Nigerians have been called upon not to board any British Airways flight again. A group, Respect Nigerians Coalition (RNC), comprising organisations and persons, is spearheading the groundswell of protest against British Airways after the 27 March, 2008 incident in which a Nigerian, Mr. Ayodeji Omitade, was arrested. The incident involving Omotade was sparked off when the airline’s staff and immigration officers tried to force Augustine Eme, a MASSOB member who was being deported, to stay on board a British Airways Lagos-bound flight against his will. It was when Omotade intervened on Eme’s behalf that he was arrested. Protest by 135 passengers, most of them Nigerians, on board the BA075 flight bound for Lagos, led to their eviction from the plane as well. This prompted RNC to issue an ultimatum to British Airways to apologise to the victims and lift the ban on Omotade. Failure of BA to meet the group’s demand led to the campaign for the total boycott of all BA flights.

The group in a statement said: “On Thursday, 27 March 2008, British Airways officials and the police subjected Mr Ayodeji Omotade to degrading treatment and went further to eject the other 135 passengers (overwhelmingly Nigerians) from BA075 flight bound for Lagos, Nigeria from London Heathrow Airport. “On Tuesday, April 15, 2008, we made five specific demands on British Airways over this issue

and asked that they address these before Wednesday, April 30, 2008. We asked British Airways to: Tender a clear and well-worded apology to all passengers affected by their discriminatory and intimidatory conduct aboard flight BA075 on 27 March, 2008 in a Nigerian national newspaper; tender a clear and well-worded written apology and appropriate compensation to Mr Ayodeji Omotade for financial and emotional losses suffered as a result of the conduct of British Airways and its agents on the day; withdraw all adverse statements made to the police about Mr. Ayodeji Omotade over this incident; lift the ban imposed on Mr. Ayodeji Omotade, even as he would still retain his right to decide whether or not to fly British Airways in the future, and issue an undertaking that British Airways shall improve its customer care culture and desist from such practices that give the impression that the airline is arrogant, uncaring and discriminatory. “So far, British Airways has failed to do any of the above or give any indication of its intention to do any of the above. The terrible statements its faceless officials have been making in the press over this issue, both in the United Kingdom and Nigeria, attest to the unwillingness of those who run the airline to see reason. In the face of British Airways’ stonewalling, it is therefore our intention to now inform you of our next line of action. We members of the Respect Nigeria Coalition (RNC) have resolved to officially commence the worldwide boycott of British Airways goods and services as from Thursday, 15 May, 2008.

“We are calling on every Nigerian and friends of Nigeria, every person who loves justice and fairness and every person who has a social conscience to vote against British Airways with the power of their purse. We are calling on people to educate British Airways on the virtues of good corporate citizenship. Nigerians and friends of Nigeria all over the world will continue to sign the Petition/Protest Letter posted on our two websites -www.nigeriavillagesquare and www.respectnigerians.com as long as the protest continues.

“We recognise the concern showed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and the Nigerian Federal Government over this issue. We are aware that discussions are ongoing between agents of the Federal Government and British Airways, the details of which are unknown to us at this time. But we are not waiting for the Federal Government to teach British Airways that the customer is king. They will find that out as they continue to test our resolve, because we are absolutely determined to prove that it’s possible for people’s power to trounce corporate tyranny.”

The statement was signed by Kennedy Emetulu, Michael Egbejumi-David, Tosin Awotesu (For and on behalf of Respect Nigerians Coalition); Pius Adesanmi, Ph.D., Associate Professor Director, Project on New African Literatures (PONAL) Department of English Carleton University Ottawa, Canada. Following the incident, a Senior BA pilot exposed the shocking cockpit culture of Britain’s flag carrier. According to the Independent on Sunday, Captain Doug Maughan, who has 28 years of flying experience, including 15 years with BA, says derogatory remarks about race by his colleagues are so common they are treated as normal. There are indications that the move by Nigerians against the BA will hurt the airline’s operations badly. British Airways carries 36 million passengers a year and operates out of airports in every continent.

Believe me , this piece of news has nothing to do with Kalu but everything to do with the probe that is going on now in the running of affairs of the NNPC during most of Obj's adminstration.

Maybe the report was doctored a little bit (which seems unlikely given the fact that the calculations were based on oil sales and the dollar value at that time) but we all know that some massive shit did go down while Obj was in charge of the oil sector and Nigeria was importing refined oil.

Like Spermdrops said, who cares where the news came from? Are they telling us anything new? undecided

I hope all this probe turns to something meaningful, else the circle will never end.

Politics / N51 Billion Stolen Every Month For 8 Years From Nnpc - Report by Truequest(m): 4:51pm On May 10, 2008
A possible average of N51 billion may have been monthly fleeced from Nigeria in the last eight years, as the Obasanjo administration superintended over what would probably go down in history as the most porous financial regime at the nation’s oil house: the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

This is even as documents and investigation findings at the disposal of the SATURDAY SUN suggest that there might even be more sleaze than already unearthed.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, while allaying fears of the acolytes of the former president, Olusegun Obasnjo a few weeks ago, had submitted that the intention of the nation’s lower legislative chamber was not to witch hunt Obasnjo, but to carry out its normal oversight functions and set the records straight on the running of both the upstream and the downstream sectors of the oil industry while the immediate past administration lasted. However, while Bankole continues to reassure the loyalists of the former president, there are interested Nigerians – operators in the sector, waiting in the wings to offer assistance, albeit unsolicited, to the lawmakers on where to beam their searchlights.

SATURDAY SUN investigations revealed that even before the present federal lawmakers developed interest to unearth what transpired in the most strategic sector of the economy during the last eight years, a federal agency which plays the role of oversight functions on the nation’s treasury, the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Commission [RMFAC] had raised alarm over a shortfall of about $2.20 billion in NNPC report of revenue accruing to the Federation Account from the sale of crude oil between January and July 2002 alone. The chairman of RMFAC had predicated its findings on data sourced from the NNPC itself, the CBN and the Federal Ministry of Finance. It was a national alert that was hushed by Obasanjo, the NNPC, and CBN.

Curiously, the same document is believed to have been made available to the then leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when it called for those who have any evidence of corruption against the then incumbent President Obasanjo to come forth with such evidence. However, the commission is not on record to have done anything with the information, even as Obasanjo had turned the whole issue into a laughable political drama, when he publicly asked the EFCC to go ahead and investigate him.

Missing $2.2 billion
An oil industry source revealed to SATURDAY SUN that the NNPC had declared only $3.55 billion, instead of $5.03 billion, as revenue from direct export crude sales between January and July 2004, giving a short fall of $1.48 billion. It was followed by another $0.74 billion from the sale of domestic crude oil, as NNPC declared $1.20 billion, instead of the actual figure of $4.94 billion. ‘Concerned operators in the oil industry had then prodded the national assembly to take up the alert from the RMFAC, but an ubiquitous Presidency, using the PDP apparatus, had intimidated the House of Representatives from initiating a public hearing on the missing $2.20 billion, a SATURDAY SUN source submitted.

NNPC crude, no man’s crude
To meet up with local demands for fuel, the nation’s four refineries, with joint refining capacity of 445,000 barrels of crude per day, were allocated crude. Even when the refineries could not refine up to its installed refining capacities and the NNPC had to augment the shortfall with exportation of refined petroleum products, the crude allocation was not slashed, leaving agitated Nigerians aghast as to what happened to the crude, while the NNPC and the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, [PPPRA] continue to feed the nation with lies of its discomfort in subsidizing petroleum products.
“Such excess crude that doesn’t fall within the officially stipulated OPEC quota was given out to individuals and corporate institutions for ‘public relations’, or to bunkering agents for sale at the spot market for a commission.’

Incidentally, for most of Obasanjo’s tenure, the average quantity of crude refined by the combined efforts of Nigeria’s four refineries oscillated around 214,000bpd, leaving a difference of 211,000bpd.
Now, going by the fact that, by OPEC statutes, crude for local consumption are never to be sold, the best the NNPC could do would have been to get the extra refined abroad, at a cost, and reshipped back to Nigeria

The document observed: “The value of this unrefined excess ‘domestic’ crude (even at the then low spot market price of $60 per barrel)” approximated to about N51 billion per month at the then prevailing exchange rate of N135 to the dollar.

This was the amount the NNPC, and its supervisor (President Obasanjo who had no substantive minister of petroleum) had to dispose as they so wished.
According to the document, there were three possible ways the presidency could have dealt with the excess: allocate it to private businessmen, political and business cronies and/or corporate institutions. “In either case, the president is the sole determinant of the application of the proceeds”, the report noted.
It continued: A similar case is also seen in the CBN monthly report of May 2004. Nigeria produced 82.77 million barrels of crude oil in May 2004, but exported only 68.82 barrels at the rate of 2.22 million barrels per day, leaving excess crude in hand of 13.95 million barrels in that same month of May. Again, this excess unsold export crude, valued at $837 million, is available to the president… even though it is well within Nigeria’s OPEC-approved export quota of 2.60 million bpd and ought to have been exported”.
“Is EFCC not interested in tracing the destination pocket of this ‘no man’s crude?’, the document asked.

Subsidy myth
The document also makes nonsense of the perennial claim by both the Obasanjo presidency and the NNPC that the cost of subsidizing imported refined products was putting enormous strain on its finances – a strain which the NNPC GMD once said came to as much as N300 billion annually.
According to the document, given the fact that the quota statutorily allocated for domestic consumption has no opportunity value (cannot be legally sold offshore and the income applied by government to any other use, no matter how important) the government had no other choice than to refine the extra 211000 bpd outside the country.

If it did, the excess was definitely enough to meet the about 110,000 bpd shortfall between local refining and local consumption. For while the value of Nigeria’s excess unrefined crude was put at about $12.66 million per day, the value of its local consumption requirement came to about $6.42 million per day. So, the document concluded thus:
“Therefore, no subsidy is involved in the importation of refined products, and so, the cost remains the same as if it were refined in Nigeria. Part of the surplus cash in hand would meet the refining costs. If NNPC Group Managing Director now states that importation of refined products is subsidized, then who is drinking this left over from the approved domestic crude which the refineries are unable to refine?”.

NAPIMS and the fraud of cash calls
SATURDAY SUN investigations further revealed that one subsidiary of the NNPC that the House of Representatives committee must beam its searchlight on is the National Petroleum Investment Management Services [NAPIMS]. It is the subsidiary given the statutory responsibility to monitor and verify the exploration costs or budget of the multinational oil exploration companies that Nigeria is involved with in Joint Venture Agreement or Production Sharing Contracts.

‘Under Obasanjo, the oil multinationals were left entirely to prepare their production costs, thus undermining the NAPIMS that should do the supervision… So, don’t be surprised that they all rushed to Abeokuta when the then NNPC big man wrote to them to make handsome donations to the Mr, President Library Project’, the source submitted.

It would be recalled that in February 2004 the National Assembly had moved to block the payment of some $1.6 billion to three of the joint venture companies as production expense, saying the money would be held until the companies have provided adequate documents to back their claims. But the president and the NNPC went behind the senate and released the money.

What, if you do not believe? will your unbelief make the reunion of no effect? Let's move to other things please.

The boy gave two countries that he lives in. - Yes, people are known to relocate from time to time.

The woman - me I guess - says we are in the US. - Yes, we are in the US.

Do Americans not use the word states? - No, not usually, but then again there are a lot of us. I'm sure some use that word. I tend to say US. or America. We have this funny thing here that says you can tell what part of the country someone is from by the words they use (i.e. bag vs. sack or soda vs. pop or cart vs. buggy). The US. is a huge place.

A reply that came just after church? on a Sunday? - Yes, I came home from Church - on Sunday - logged on my computer and there was the reply. God is good.

Here's the deal, you can believe that everything that was presented here was true or you can believe that it was all a pack of lies. It really doesn't matter one way or another. On the day that Emeka Jr and EziNne are finally reunited with their father you can sit in your chair and not believe it at all and it will still take place to the glory of God. I guarantee you that if you refuse to believe in gravity it will still operate.

Making everybody to believe this story will be one hell of a job. Infact it will be near impossibility as the difference people's disposition and life dealing cause them to act differently. Though it will bless me to see the pics, but I can assure it will not convince some. Thomas though so close to Christ doubted his resurrection.

But this has been a very wonderful story, I told some of my friends that Emeka jr has returned to thread, they celebrated like they have known him before. I wish you and your new family all the best.

Politics / Shame: Ssce Physics Question Paper On Sale In The Street by Truequest(m): 4:39pm On May 06, 2008
The question paper for Physics, in the ongoing May/June Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), scheduled to hold on Thursday, is currently on sale to candidates on the streets of Lagos.

The questions, which have already been solved by ‘mercenaries’, are being sold to the candidates for as little as N200.

The question papers have circulated round virtually all secondary schools in the metropolis.

According to a source who craved anonymity, the Physics questions have been circulating since Monday.

“I have confronted the Public Relations Officer of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) with the questions and he agreed that it is what the examination body had planned to use on Thursday.

“That was the same way I informed them about the English Language question papers that were already in circulation before the exam was held last week. They (WAEC) asked me to produce evidence and I did. That was why they eventually decided to suspend the paper.

“One thing I know is that some WAEC officials are responsible for the leakage of these questions, and this is not good for the education sector. WAEC has lost credibility,” the source lamented.

Also speaking with P.M.News, a candidate who does not want her name in print, disclosed that all the papers that have been written so far had leaked. This has actually helped students who did not prepare properly for the exams.

Apart from the Physics question, other papers that have brought the credibility of the SSCE to question include Mathematics, Chemistry and English (Essay) that have leaked.

P.M.News also gathered that the Geography paper to be taken tomorrow has equally leaked.

Contrary to the rumour making the rounds that human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehimi, SAN, was dead, P.M.News can authoritatively confirm that the Lagos lawyer is still alive.

Chief Fawehimi who recently marked his 70th birthday is still recuperating at a London hospital after a cancer surgery.

Chief Fawehimi who spoke to P.M. News from his hospital bed this morning, said he was getting better and that he would return to the country soon.

“I am still alive. I am not dead. I am recovering slowly, my health is improving. Please help me tell Nigerians that I am still alive,” he said.

Gani’s ill-health which had seen him being treated in the London hospital for more than eight months now has been a source of concern to many Nigerians who missed his insightful criticisms of bad government policies and dogged stand on public issues.

One of his children recently came out to say that he had been diagnosed as having cancer.

Another human rights activist confided in P.M.News that the spread of the cancer had been controlled by specialists treating him at the London hospital.

“Gani is alive, don’t mind them. I spoke with him just now and he is still recuperating. I don’t know why some people are spreading rumours all over the place. It is a rumour, it is not true,” the activist who sought anonymity told P.M.News. this moirning.

I have to open another thread on this topic because I don't fancy the idea of pulling that 'death' thread when we all know that Chief Fawehimi is not dead after all. This is my submission, when you broadcast the death people like this you are wishing them a longer life remember the case of Great Zik. I pray he recovers quickly and come back to the country he laboured for. I see him living long like Zik.
