Kogi Guber Race: Supporters of Ajaka protest at the APC party secretariat for a purported primary election. Supporters of Hon. Yakubu Murtala Ajaka have gathered in protest at the All Progressives Congress APC party secretariat in Abuja — alleging irregularities in the party's primary election process. The protesters, numbering in the hundreds, have demanded a fresh primary election or a change in the anointed candidate. The primary election, an internal process held by political parties to select their candidates for an upcoming general election, is intended to ensure that the candidate selected is representative of the party's values and ideals. However - in some cases - the process can be marred by controversy and allegations of misconduct. The protesters at the APC Headquarters are alleging just such misconduct, claiming that the election was rigged and the result was written in favor of the outgoing governor's handpicked candidate.

The electoral commission, INEC, has declared as “null, void and of no effect”, the declaration of Aisha Dahiru as the winner of the governorship election in Adamawa. INEC stated this in a statement posted on its official Twitter handle. “The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded. “The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect. Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended. “The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately.
