After submitting your application you can do upfront medicals or wait until it is requested.
Upfront medicals means taking your medical exam unprompted, before they ask for it as part of your application. Usually medicals are requested at the very end of the processing time, and is usually a sign you are about to get approved. But, you can go to a recognized IRCC physician and take medicals. The advantage of taking medicals upfront, is that it might reduce your processing time a little bit.

Hi everyone I am just about to apply for my wifes spousal sponsorship.

I have got 2 questions :
1. Whatsup with upfront medicals, how is that done please ?
2. Anyone know how to pay with naira ?

Thank you.

I completed upfront medicals yesterday Thursday March 12th. This morning I received a request for a medical exam on my portal, but I guess it was triggered by my upfront medical. And my spouse received an email showing her eligibility to sponsor is passed

Received BIL today!

Hello everyone,
I am a new member to the thread. I applied for common law sponsorship (outland) with my girlfriend in Canada. We applied through the outland route although we live in Canada in November 2025( received AOR in January 2026) , so my application is going to be processed in the Nigerian office. Please has anyone heard of any other similar application? What is the typical wait time for such applications in Nigeria right now

Wow hopefully you here back soon. What has your timeline been when did you apply? AOR?

E don happen o!!!!!
PPR ALERT
TIMELINE:
• February 8th: First submission
• February 17th: I received an NSE request. I had already submitted IELTS, so they just requested for MBS certificate.
• March 10th: I completed my NSE resubmission.
• March 16th: I went for upfront medicals
• April 12th: Medicals were updated to passed
• April 19th: I received a BVL At this point I was so excited and was anticipating receiving PPR.
• April 21st:Received a request letter asking for police certificate. I received the request mail around 6am. I went to Ikoyi that same day to get the police certificate and submitted it that same day.
• May 5th: I received a second BVL. When I received this, I was so confused. I had never heard of someone receiving more than on BVL. I thought IRCC mistakenly sent me BVL instead of PPR.
• May 31st : I ordered my GCMS notes
• June 30th: I received my GCMS notes. They were perfect, they showed “Eligibility: passed” and “Final: approved”. I was so happy, but IRCC decided to keep me waiting. I can't lie, I started to doubt whether the notes were true.
• July 28th : PPR
I am a first time applicant. I applied for a PGD in Marketing & Data Analytics at Okanagan college.
I submitted 2 MBS certificates, one from my dad and the other from my uncle. I also submitted two letters of sponsorship, one from my parents the other from my uncle.
It has ended in praise!!

I have seen an affordable British airways flight. Thanks. Please I would like to know if I need a UK transit visa to travel using British airways?
You don't need a transit Visa to travel through the UK as long as you have a Canadian Visa.

For those of you with blank eligibility/ pre-assessment notes you can order CBSA notes next time instead of IRCC notes. They don't hide the info in CBSA notes.
RollyA:
Please o! for those of us with eligibility blank, despite application over processing times. lets know ourselves. what is our prayer point o! grin

Computer based IELTS is better because you don't have to worry about your handwriting legibility, you can go back and make corrections to what you have written without having to cancel. And most people are generally faster at typing than they are at writing, so you save more time. On top of all that your results would come out faster if you use computer based. So for me it is a no brainer.

EmeeNaka:
does NSE request come to every Nigerian applicants? What determine who gets it?
And what should one file when it comes up?
The main difference between the regular study permit application and an NSE application is that NSE has some extra requirements: MyBankStatement & IELTS

If the VO thinks you could qualify for NSE because you meet some of the requirements, they might send you the NSE request. In my case, I submitted an IELTS test report form along with my normal study permit application (but without MBS). And because of this, I got was sent the NSE request.

However, an applicant who fulfilled all the NSE requirements by submitting MyBankStatement and IELTS from the beginning would not receive the NSE request. In this case, IRCC would start processing this application as an NSE application from the outset.

PS: NSE is an expedited processing route for study permit applications of Nigerians. It does not give applicants a better chance of being granted visas. It only promises faster processing than the regular route.

My fellow Nairalanders:
Please, help me take a look at my timeline so far and tell me what you think:
February 8 - Submitted Normal Study Permit Application
February 17 - Received offer to apply through NSE
March 5 - Submitted NSE Application
March 16 - Completed upfront medicals
April 12- Medicals showed as passed on my portal
April 19 - Received BVL
April 21 - Was asked to submit Police Clearance Certificate
April 21 - Submitted Police Clearance Certificate
May 5 - Received a 2nd BVL

I feel like my timeline is very weird, what could be the reason for this? huh
Why do I have 2 BVLs?

If you did upfront medicals, you do not need to upload the e-medical sheet. Your medical examination results will be updated on the portal.

iii)Date
iv)Candidate Number
v)Candidate ID
vi)Test Scores
vii)D.O.B

x) Country of Origin

Upload this screenshot if you do not receive your IELTS Test Report Form on time.
Goodluck bro!

Good day all. Please i need help and suggestion gurus in the house.

I have written my IELTS exam and the result is out but they are yet to send my test report form. (We were told it will be couriered to our address) Please I have until tomorrow to submit my score. Please what do you advice I do considering the time?. I am planning of submitting the page where the result was displayed on my dashboard and also attach an explanation letter that I am yet to get the hard copy of my TRF.

N:B I requested for British Council to send my result to Canada embassy and they have done that on 22nd of April. I got a mail that they've sent it but I am not seeing it in my application. It was sent even before the result was displayed on my dashboard
I am confuse on how to go about this.

A letter of introduction is sent by IRCC telling you that your application have been approved. It also contains information regarding your travel.

You will get this letter after receiving PPR and your passport have been sent to IRCC for stamping
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by TundeTheHunter: 10:34am On Apr 24, 2021
AdoChel:
Please what's a Letter of Introduction? And what do acronyms BVL and PPR mean?
I do not know what Letter of Introduction is.
BVL - Biometrics Verification Letter
PPR- Original Passport Request

Receipt of BVL indicates that a decision has been made on your application and you should receive that decision soon (usually within 24 hours).

This is why most people who have posted their timelines show receipt of BVL & PPR on the same day.

Mirian91:
Please scholars, I have an important question to ask pls. I’ve read through and from the content of SOP it is said to state home-tie and reason of coming back. So people who recently applied now that Canada wants students to stay back should we still state a reason why we will come back by all means after studying?
Although Canada needs immigrants, they prefer to invite skilled immigrants (express entry applicants) over non-skilled immigrants(international students). And although they know that many international students would stay back after their studies, they prefer to accept those individuals who can convince them that they will be able to return to their home country if any unforseen circumstance arises. This is why it is important to convince the VO that you will return after your studies.

You can use either the General or the Academic IELTS for your NSE application.

Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement. I got a little nervous when my PPR didn't drop the same day as my BVL. When I then saw a mail from IRCC this morning, I thought for sure that it would be my PPR, only for them to ask for Police Certificate. Abi do they think I am a criminal? embarassed
However, I have uploaded my police certificate today and I am hoping for the best.
I really appreciate being on this forum, I have learnt a lot from the applicants and gurus here.
Even if I don't get it now, I will keep trying.

Thought you got BVL yesterday or the day before?

If i am correct, i think you're super close, maybe a little details is all that is needed from your end to seal the deal. Don't worry, your next post is that of PPR God willing. you've gone this far, no going back bro.

God is involve

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by TundeTheHunter: 4:43pm On Apr 21, 2021
NSE information is not on the IRCC website.
Pinkey2021:
There’s nothing like Nigeria Student Express fee. You apply normally with all the documents required namely: IELTS, MBS, Medical slip. Otherwise, you just apply and if they feel you’re qualified for it they’ll send you a request to submit.

So there’s no different or special fee to be paid for it.

PS: why don’t people go to IRCC website to confirm info for themselves anymore?

akoko123:
I just got a letter from IRCC today that I qualify for NSE and I should submit IELTS and Mystatement of Acc .
I'm confused as the IELTS is low band 5 but my account is adequate. Even if I choose to write a new IELTS I dont want to do computer based cos that affected me the last time and the next available IELTS written exam at MOD abuja is about 4weeks away which by then I wont be able to meet up with the request deadline..

PLEASE, should I ignore the request for NSE and allow them proceed normally or I must supply the requested info.

Secondly, if I ignore, can that affect final decision?
HELP
It seems like you should ignore the NSE request and allow for regular student visa processing. Please note that using NSE doesn't give you a better chance of being approved than the regular study visa route, it only gives quicker processing time. Someone who uses NSE could still get denied, he/she would just get denied quicker. Someone using the regular route can still get approved, it would just take longer.
