Further Commentary:

Islam has never gone through the separation of Church and state and so it makes sense to assume that the entry of Islam into main stream Yoruba society would arouse a civil war. For all we know, it could be main cause of the civil war. Ilorin could have been trying to wage a jihad against other Yoruba states to spread Islam. Note that from Kurumi on wards, most Yoruba leaders were Muslims. Latosa of Ibadan was a practicing Muslim!

A conflict is Islamic philosophy and Yoruba philosophy may have been a major initiator of the rebellion. Much like today, even neutral chiefs would have taken advantage of the upheaval.
My opinion on that was Afonja used the apparent weakness in the Alaafinate against the empire. Alimi was an ally who used the growing popularity of Islam among the ordinary folks to assist Afonja n then subsequently in line with the wishes of the teeming populace against idol worshiping (and its attendant sacrifices) to establish an Islamic based Govt aligned (or better put subjected) to the Sokoto Caliphate
CultureRe: Yoruba Revolutionary War Chronicles. By Samuel Johnson by tunene66:
In addition I have this comment. My father is from Ogbomosho. He is still alive. He tells me that his great-grandfather originally hailed from Ikoyi Ile, adding that the man n many others were refugees in Ogbomosho as a result of the various tribal wars. My father adds that some of his great-grandfather's siblings went as far as Lagos Island, others went to Ilorin while few returned to Ikoyi

My point is many Yoruba people will be very surprised to find out that going back three or four generations their current hometown is not their original place of origin

To end a colleague of mine, who hails from Ife South LGA (I would not disclose his town) was surprised when his father told him just last year that actually my colleague's grandfather actually hailed from Ogbomosho

So let' we the Yorubas see ourselves as one irrespective of where we r from

GOD bless

I appreciate the work you are doing. One important aspect of the Yoruba race, is that apart from accepting Ife as cultural center, over the years after the fall of the Oyo Empire 'supremacy' has never resided in any particular area any more.

In moving forward lets all agree that by virtue of speaking a common language and agreeing on Ife as the cultural center we have a lot to contribute to the peace, progress n prosperity of the Yorubaland in particular n Nigeria at large

Kudos

I still find it difficult to see why the owners of Nairaland (its private property) who are atheist in inclination and thought find it difficult to have a Christian for Christian forum just like the one for Muslims

Its intellectually unsound and in my opinion is amusing.

Well its private property and one reserves the right to leave if one feels that one's religious liberty n freedom is being curtailed all because of the owner's religious beliefs

He said he was coming soon. 2000 years is not "soon" by any honest definition. He also promised that some of his followers would not taste death before his glorious return, but they have all been dead for almost 2000 years.
Soon,no doubt literally means in the nearest future. That I agree, but in the context of uncertainty it may not necessarily mean so.

Thus interpretation is key here. Jesus gave signs which have been subject to different meaning

Let me end by saying when I was young I saw a quote. "No credit today, come tomorrow". The question is when is tomorrow

By the way, Seun, while I enjoy this discourse what of a Christian forum for Christians only

Cheers n GOD bless

Jesus said he would come back soon but it's been 2000 years and it hasn't happened. Throughout that time all Christians believed, just like you do, that Jesus would arrive during their lifetimes and it didn't happen. What makes you so sure that you will be right when so many others who felt the same way you feel, have died of old age and nothing ever happened?
Jesus was never explicit as to the actual day or time.
EducationRe: Did You Know IKEJA Is An Abbreviation? by tunene66: 2:33pm On Nov 23, 2016
Ikeja can never be Ikorodu n Epe Joint Administration

The Epes are either Ijebus or of Eko (Lagos).Thats why u have the Oloja of Epe n the Elepe of Epe

The Ikorodus, if I am not mistaken are of the Remo group

While Ikeja is of Awori origin.

Remember that before 1967 Ikorodu, Epe Ikeja and Badagry were part of the old Western Region as divisions.

Ikeja gained prominence due to Industrial estate and GRA created by the Awolowo administration in the '50s and d airport built by the colonial administration

Aromire is one of the prominent patriarchs of Ikeja and if you go along the road from Awolowo road where Holy Trinity Hospital is, before you get to First Baptist Church,Ikeja on the right you will some shrines there

You may also know that First Baptist Church Ikeja was established in 1902

@hardmirror I believe that in the interest of making things plain n clear, u can safely answer the question on the name of the person who died. U mentioned other names to buttress your points.
Mentioning the name will add more credibility to your story
Trust u will do d noble n honourable thing

If u refuse, which you have the right to do, then it will allow for speculation n uncertainty on your story

As I have earlier posted, let all b civil polite n mature.

i can not but contribute to this thread because i read it from start to finish.
Firstly, our problem is simple we don't know and we don't want to know. If you are born in a Christian family that's all you are Christian automatically. same as Muslims. lol same as traditional believes have you ever think outside the box the answer is no. even if we want to we won't just because we are afraid to be wrong. that said.

Hardmirror

Many of you points are correct and right i hardly can say you are not making point. But this is the problem since you are once a devoted christian i can feel the disappointment in doing things with your heart and then found it to be baseless.

These are the reasons why I said that.
1) Christianity as a religion is a baseless religion
If you are reading a book so called from God and a mere human can pick out things that doesn't add up one will pause and ask the question again. what is happening.
2) Bible was written after the death of Jesus so we couldn't verify from source the authenticity of it content
3) Conscience, if you have one you will tends to withdraw a little to have a rethink. Example is in a midst of 20,000 people you as a pastor saying a barren is here and will concede. you know a barren is definitely there. telling someone that God ask me to tell you. Knowing fully well you are not hearing anything from any body, and you will be telling yourself, assuming whatever you say is not intentional it must have been coming from somewhere (God) I think if you dont want to deceive yourself one should think.
4) Contradictions to be frank if God is as powerful as we want him to be there shouldn't be a single logical contradictions in the bible. Because God is not stupid he can't tell two people different story of the same event. Nothing is like yo need divine understanding ( divine ) to understand a passage in the bible because he created us he knows what we can understand. Never accept such explanation from any pastor its a lie.
5) Commentary bible said all those books in the bible can not be verified. yes book of john, Matthew etc. if so where did they come from. I, we was not used he third person is used who is the reporter. All this and lots more can make one doubt his faith.
6) why is bible having versions word of God why are some verses out why are books out. alot is to be answered, i think that is what we need answers to and not God.
finally, I agreed with you on many parts but bro sit down and think about it. what if all this above mentioned errors can be clarify. I think the Romans who sold us this bullshits would be blamed.
Your points are interesting

No doubt there are many matters regarding biblical accuracy n authenticity n interpretation which have been reasons for Church split n crisis over the centuries

So there's a hard choice to be made. Accept or reject.

In making that choice, reason n logic alone cannot be a valid basis as both are subject to a lot of ambiguities n revisionist tendencies (some of which is seen in newer versions of bible translations).

Indeed miracles, signs n wonders in themselves have been subject of deceit n manipulations

Ultimately its an individual decision to either accept or reject the bible n d message it sends forth to the world

So let the discourse continue.

**As FG Policies Sustain Rising GDP Figures In Agric, Solid Minerals Sectors

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Third Quarter GDP figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed a consistent growth in Agric and Solid Mineral sectors, indicating the success of the Buhari administration's economic policies even though overall economy is still in recession.

The over-riding impact of the oil and gas sector, where vandalism and sabotage of critical installations negatively affected production output, explains the persistence of the recession, as the non-oil economy posted a very slight growth.

However, efforts to resolve the Niger Delta situation are continuing as the Federal Government has opened several channels of communication with all relevant groups in the Niger Delta.

Also, urgent fiscal and monetary measures to spur the economy back to overall positive territory are certainly in the offing including those targeting manufacturing.

According to Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Dr Adeyemi Dipeolu on the latest NBS reports, “The third quarter results just released by the National Bureau of Statistics show that the Nigerian economy is still in recession.

“Growth in Gross Domestic Product fell by -2.24% in the third quarter as compared to the decline of -2.07 percent experienced in the second quarter.
