properguy:You mean block of flats? That will be about 6 floors. The design available is a six unit apartment building. |
No, Its aluminium mono-pitch roof. Slopes to the rear. Three front and side walls bounding the roof will have flashing and counter-flashing. That way, there are no leakage issues. |

Happy birthday in arrears chessguru |
Abimloaded:I understand you. What is right is what works. Most lecturers always feel the need to criticize in order to prove they know more. In some cases they are wrong. There are many ways to treat toilet windows and no one would know from the facade. |
Welcome back to the project! |
Abimloaded:Not true. You can have your toilet windows on any elevation. The way the toilet is designed is whats important. It should not be designed at just a s##t hole but a living space with bigger windows than you would normally have if possible. |
Freest:I am sorry to say but you seem a bit naive. First step to wisdom is understanding that people are first of all human before they become priests, the pope, presidents etc. There was a case of one priest molesting his male child for years and the boy couldn't tell anyone because the father was very well respected in the church. Nothing may be happening but don't beat your chest in assurance. |
Open plans are modern and classy but these are not common in Africa. Some reasons for this is the kitchen smell diffusing into the living room, our culture which had the kitchen outside the building historically, lack of appreciation for open plans etc I think its good for the African market but the end user's preference is to be considered foremost. |
remmyjay007:Ok then... looks like we are getting there. I have always longed for more clay in Nigerian buildings as that is our lost architecture...Nature gave this to us in abundance but we chose to ignore it. If the exterior is well done and the interior can be plastered then that will suffice for a standard or even luxurious dwelling. |
Good...Similar to hydraform bricks. My main concern is the interiors. Can the interior face of the walls be plastered?... or there will be need for wall panels to be installed inside incase the client requires a smooth interior finish. |
FastShipping:Thanks... some guys in my area just finished the job. |
I see the key word is cost. Hence u ll need a custom plan... just efficient enough for your use...no more,no less. The size of the building is paramount as this a major determinant of cost. Apart from size, you may also consider having only one en-suite room while the two other rooms share conveniences.etc You did not post the plot sketch or survey plan so anyone who wants to help will have an idea of which side the facade will face. |
I personally think terrazzo will be great if it could be refined to look more like granite. Is this possible here?? It does in a way if glazed but needs to be finer with better workmanship. |
Its really a great idea... the name ''3d house printer'' sounds like some thing that has to do with precast or prefabricated homes. ie the machine gets the building info. from CAD or BIM software then fabricates the walls to be installed as a whole instead of having many bricks/blocks within a wall. Can it cast floor slabs? It seems its mainly for the block-work aspect which is good enough anyway. |
Bakery and water factory...revised. The building consists of: A Bakery (Double Volume) Preparation and packaging area Eatery Wholesale and retail pick-up area Water Factory(Double Volume) Finished product storage area Conveniences and changing rooms for male and female Delivery bay Electrical room Stores Admin Offices Accommodation for overnight workers

But its funny how chess reporting is not properly done in Nigeria. For those of us who have little time for competitions but still love the game,There is really no place you can be sure of getting the best photos or write up covering chess events in Nigeria... but u try Akinov... just wish u had more pics. |
HMMMM |
I have been involved in/handled quite a number of projects and come to the conclusion that the two major reasons why projects result in waste of resources and have poor quality(common within Nigeria) are: 1. Improper planning. 2. Not using professionals/experienced hands. There are many other factors but they can be broadly categorized within these two. |
I decided to change the title of this thread to include advice for nairalanders regarding their building projects. No one knows it all but I believe there is a minimum level of knowledge which will ensure good quality and that hard earned money is not wasted due to trial and error...as they say ''knowledge is power''. |
hmmm... most of the paintings look funny but it was an era when the world was breaking away from realism and the renaissance era due to the invention of the camera. |
You forgot to add the prize monies for the competition.Even if you are not the overall winner, there are still other prizes. |

Thanks Hajji and twinskenny...yea a lot of people like columns on the facade but it will soon become outdated I think. |
Slight modification to the design above. The client prefers columns on the facade.
|
What came to mind immediately I saw the plan was captured in ihebrooke's post. Natural lighting and ventilation are key in making a space functional... you should ideally swap the positions of the rooms and bathrooms. All the best. |
What search exactly? If its free from government acquisition or if the deal is genuine? If its the latter you don't need to pay for a search because you could still be scammed. There is a guy called Omonile lawyer who can help you out with this. |
