Family › Re: Pls, I Want To Know About Nigerian Marriage Life. by twosquare(m): 6:52pm On Dec 29, 2017 |
peacefull: Hello everyone.
Thanks for open this topic. And sorry about my English is very poor. Coz I'm not English speaker.
I really need advice from who is Nigerian(Igbo) and who is marry with Nigerian(Igbo)guy.
I'm married with Igbo guy more than 10years. We started relationship totally almost 15years.
But I'm still dont know lots of things about Nigerian culture.
Now we are living separate. Coz he got new work in far place. That's why he is only pay for house bill where I living. I also working. But my wage is very small. He always demind me to pay for lots of things more than my wage since when we married.
In suddenly he leaved our house w/o any discuss when after he spoke his friend who is introduced him to new work.
Get new work is ok. But what I dont understand is always he decided by himself about all of things.
My health is no good. I suppose to be go to hospital what doctor said when I went to there @ last time. But I still cant go there more than 4month. Bcoz of money.
I told him that how much so hard life. But he always ignoring me.
I know that he has money. Coz every year he go back to Nigeria.
He can buy air ticket and many gifts for his family but he has no money to take me to hospital.
Is it his culture?
Wife must pay for life more than wage? Husband salary is more than wife. But still must pay half and half or more than him? I know that not everybody same.
If wife have sick, still have to go to work and have to make money to go to hospital by herself?
Is that Nigerian common marriage life style?
He started stay in Nigeria more than 1month when he go back to Nigeria. He told me 3months by this time. Now he is in Nigeria.
I can understand that everybody who is stay in abroad want go back to own country and missing family. But why always w/o wife?
People who is married and living in Nigeria, every year take holiday 1to3month? No work,no pay,w/o partner. Is it common?
And my husband dont wanna give me any gift and dont wanna spend time with me on any celebrate day. So I also stopped gift for him. I have no experience about dating with him as like common couples. Is it Igbo culture?
I know that I decided marry with him. But I didn't know kind of hard and lonely life Iwill get.
I still wanna ask many things. But already too much writing.
Sorry about my poor English once more time.
I hope many people can understand what I'm trying to tell you. PLS I NEED HELP.
THANKS. Well, with all you have said, I believe the best is to talk to him about your feelings and what's bothering you. In Nigerian marriages, individual personality differs, even among Igbos, other tribes as well. People are not the same, likewise we have sweet and bitter marriages all around. Women here can talk with their husbands and share their concerns even though we have patriarchal system here. You have nothing to be afraid of. Something, I believe, is off. Just talk to him. We have caring husbands and likewise wives here. By the way, which country are you from in Asia? Indonesia? |

Bollinger: You said parents are 85% correct in whatever advice they give which is not true which is why i said what i said. Their advice is even worse when it comes to relationships because what they like will not be what you like. Well, like you said, it's you opinion. You are right. Although I understand what Moji12 is trying to convey, but like you said, some of this advice is not entirely true. What parents fail to understand is that times have changed---now, I'm not saying part of what they see ain't relevant. No, but they should know that people of these season has grown in evil wisdom to evade even the best of scrutiny. Even supposed 'good' homes produce bad children who you may never know what those kids are involved in outside of their parent's sight (daughter and son). After dealing with issue of 1) Good character 2) Compatibility in dreams and future prospects (3) Genotype (4) Tribe (5) Age (6) Religion/Education and if she is a good girl or good guy...you now reject, it can bring about bitterness. @Moji12, they are not always right....why? the world (spiritually) is getting smarter than the light some of our parents carry. Not that some of those things they say are not relevant, but na the dog of today know how to chase the rabbit of today. They should just give you words of wisdom and ask if you are sure this is the one, give their concerns and tell you to be on the lookout. Don't forget even a sincerely good lady or guy can turn to darkness at any time, even though parent-approved...so you can't be absolutely sure. Na only God will save us. |

pimper24: Believers could my dream about rapture be genuine or is it another fever? Christ in his royal robes was just indescribably magnificent. The chariot adorned I there numbers joined with reigns as of great ornament flew to earth with Christ at the front. The place was like a rocky desert, cold and silent and no building or tree in sight. There were people of all colours there hailing the Son of Man. To my amazement, where I was standing I sighted several Muslims waiting and equally savoring the moment. All were waiting for the next instructions from he Lord. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.” (Matthew 24:23) No one will see such a man and hail and be laughing, rather they will wail and mourn... kayo80: About working on an alternative to okadabooks, I can't wait for that.
On publishing on Amazon, I already do that, although I sell more on Apple's iBooks... Even at that, they are still peanuts. When you sell for $1, and after taxes and commission that Amazon or Apple collects, you left with like 20 cents a book, then it takes a lot of sales to earn a decent income from book sales.
Your friend earns $300-$500 from book sales on Amazon monthly? Whoa! This is interesting. I have NEVER MET A NIGERIAN AUTHOR THAT MAKES THAT MUCH FROM SELLING FICTION BOOKS ON AMAZON, and trust me, I have been in the KDP community for 5 years now. Does she use her original name? Or she uses a pen name? Amazon is a no-no-no...the 20 or 30% tax after Amazon's cut spoiled everything...Just avoid any US company. |

kayo80: Hmm! "Waste money? " Poor people still "waste money" on things they fancy/things that make them happy. And what of the population of people earning very well, or even averagely? Even if 80% of Nigerians are poor, there are still like 2-3 million Nigerians that earn good money... What about these people? It is not part of their habits to read such books...mostly indigenous movies. Also, the western world has developed their reading culture over time. We don't have it here, or we kind of lost it during the 80s when there was massive brain drain during economic downturns Nigeria went through...In the 60s, you will mostly hear about the Onitsha market Literature, even during the oil boom...the market literature was okay, chapbooks or story pamphlets were in vogue...authors like Cyprian Ekwensi started that way. But from the 80s down to this moment...things went down with speed, the love for books/stories too...movies took over...home videos...assuming it was sustained till then, we would have had an active ebook market like South Africa (although it is still not impressive but manageable). Then literacy is part of it...how many people know much about Amazon, Kobo, etc. to get ebooks (even the word ebook). Many can't even operate an android efficiently to access Newspaper apps. There is something known as Popular Culture in Literature (students/graduates will know what I'm saying). Even those you said are "earning well," you know not all are 'posh,' 'Behind,' etc...We have folks, not in the white collar jobs, suit up, blah blah earning well also more than the ones in the 'Behind' categories...some are educated, some aren't. Poverty is not the general excuse, just part of the causative elements that are hindering the market literature in Nigeria & Africa. Re-orientation is needed....and the popular culture now in vogue is Blogging where people read stories paid or free online...some here are yet to inculcate the habit of reading books via electronics...they prefer that feel...you know....even last two months or so, a lot in the US, UK and Canada bought more paperbacks than ebooks by a slight difference. Most people read because it was made compulsory for them in schools, their discipline or academics...apart from that....people are pursuing money (even the young ones, fresh cool-headed)...what they use to relax are movies...no time to sit and read books... 1 Like |

Yes, I know Nigerians don't have a reading habit, but what of the population of readers in the county? I believe they should be enough to make some authors of good works rich. Come on! We have a population of 180 million for crying out loud. Pele... Not just Nigeria but Africa. Most successful Nigerian or African writers now writes from the diaspora. What we have now are emigre writers... Hardly will you see an African novelist or so writing from here because the market isn't here but there. In a country where an average person is struggling to feed himself... Do you think he is going to buy books for leisure and "waste money" while his family goes hungry? I don't think so... Most writers target the western diaspora for their sales. |

Preeck: Dear Nairalanders, i have a been a registered user on this platform going back as far as 2008. I decided to use this moniker to create this thread because of the sensitivity of this personal issue. I am a realist as well as a spiritual person, a born Christian to be precise. I don't want to bore you with so much details, all I have to ask is: what do you do when you are told that your mum is a witch. I have tried to do away with this information or revelation for some years now because I thought it's just some callous scammers trying to get something out of you, but today somewhere in a faraway place I have never been to or known, I was told the same thing about my mum. What do I do. Of course she's my mum and I will ever be grateful she brought me to this world but what do I do to be free from her spiritual grasp over me. I know this is an open forum but I will really want kids to stay away from commenting on this post. You are a born-again person and you are afraid of witches? Even if your mother is a witch, which I doubt, you should be less concerned because it is written, that He "hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus." These things must become your reality and stop worrying yourself about a witch or something, because you are far more powerful than the demon of witchcraft...unless you are saying God is a lying, then He won't say: greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. A new babe in Christ can deal with demonical power, even babalawos dey deal with things that are very low like witches, how much you that have been baptized with the Holy Ghost and Power. Do you even know what that means? What should you do?Let your mind be at peace; pray for your mum and love her. For many have gone the ways of the world teaching the doctrines of demons. Even if she is, only pray for her to be delivered from that demon of witchcraft, and without doubting in your mind, it will be so. |

TheControversy: The account of Genesis 6:1-4 records one of the numerous odd stories that can be found in the Bible's Old Testament. It details the story of the Sons of God (the Angels) who took notice of the daughters of men and bore unnatural children (the Nephilims) through them. The full account reads:
"And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."(KJV)
The bizarre nature of this story lies not just in the fact that the angels developed lustful desires for women, but that they also were able to bear children through these women whom they took as wives. This is strange since as is believed, God made the angels as spirits who have no flesh and therefore no fleshly desires which naturally follows. If Genesis 6:1-4 is to be held as fact, the following questions understandably arise: 1. How were the angels able to "have sex and bear children" since God only blessed Humans and all living creatures on earth with the ability to procreate? (Genesis 1:28) 2. Since God made the angels and bestowed on them the powers they possess including the power to take human form (Genesis 18:1-8, 19:1-11, 32:24-30, Hebrews 13:2) do they also possess the ability to reproduce? 3. If your answer to the second question is NO, then who are the sons of God in Genesis 6:1-4 and why did they bear children of unnatural size and strength. If your answer is YES, then why did God give angels the power of Sexual reproduction?
Theists, please comment. I have consider school of thoughts... The sons of God that were mentioned there were humans, not angels. Although, it is a pull enough to think they weren't, but if it were angels that sinned, the next verse wouldn't have said: My Spirit shall not always strive with man... |

Trust me, they would have used them in equally gruesome ways that would have shocked people of the time. Do you realize that there are fewer wars now than before, law enforcement is more efficient, diseases are better managed and life expectancy is generally longer? How do all these mean that the world is getting worse? I don't dispute some of the things you said, but you need higher eyes to see that men has actually retrograde. For every invention you are glad about, it takes human lives in larger quantity. That's why it is the knowledge of the Tree of Good and Evil. The world is getting worse... The world of now ain't the same or what it used to be a thousand years ago. It has metamorphosed into something deadly---gradually turning into a beast. The scripture said, in latter days, perilous times shall come... Yeah, we have the tech and medicine, etc, but natures of people shall change, and men will wax worse in a two fold... Of course, evil has always been, but ours will project higher and reach the cap/peak of it.
Someone once said to me around 2011, that 10 years from now, men will begin to turn into another kind of human being. You too should be ready to turn into another kind of human being in God... Even the 10 years hasn't lapse, we are hearing all kinds things. |

Philosophia: Hey guys. Thanks a lot.
I don't want to seem like a stupid person or what not. But I am in a confusion like I have never been in.
I slept on this issue. And my mind was troubled through out the night. I find it hard to really believe or accept that she would be seeing another guy right now. The reason is that she has been in several situations where guys would try to hit on her and start up something but she'd shut them down and tell me about it and we would laugh over it.
I remember that atimes I would read stories off nairaland about relationship troubles to her and we would discuss it. She would always give sound and very mature advice. And I would thank my stars for having met such a wise and conscientious girl.
I am thinking, is it possible she just wants to wake me from my seeming "slumber" to take life more seriously and make things happen faster generally? Or Does she expect me to get my act together ASAP and step to the plate to fulfill her desire?
She's the type that would think up an idea this minute and 3 mins later, she's doing it while I would take a bit more time to think the idea through. She has gotten me to take decisions faster in past by pulling up some stunt. Some of the decisions were ok while some others, I still regret till date.
I don't want to be in a haste. I want to follow her as smartly as possible so I don't loose out unnecessarily. Sometimes I fear she is smarter than me in "things of the world". She obviously has more experience, as this is her third relationship and my first.
What do you think?
