Either one you chose, doesnt matter. They are most often classified as the same category. You should be fine whichever you indicate.

VBNET: VBNET: Hi Nairalanders,

Pls I need a clarification on this:

My relative who happens to be an American citizen sent my grandma a letter to visit him. My grandma is old(around 68 years) and he has instructed me to accompany her to the states. I am married and also working and we've booked our interview date.
My question is this...
When I was filling the DS160 form, there was a place I was asked who will be funding my own trip and I put my relative's name there since he sent the invitation letter. Can one be denied a visa because of this? Or will it be proper if I fill it that I will sponsor my own trip and my grandma will be sponsored by my relative.
Thanks in advance for your prompt suggestions.
This situation about lack of clarity on sponsorship alone, is sufficient enough for refusal.

An adult is expected to be able to sponsor him/herself on a trip such as this. Your grandma being sponsored by the relative is acceptable. But for you, it is a different ball game (you must be able to cater for your expenses).

mrbamo: @tzetzefly......must i apply at Beijing embassy or I can apply at other consulate that is in the city i live? What other supporting documents can you suggest?
You can apply at any of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to China if you can show sufficient tie there.

It is very unlikely you're issued a visa in China due to the strigent procedure in permit issuance.

It will be better you apply from Nigeria.

TravelPassenger Posted Joke About Missing Flight As He Boarded Jet by tzetzefly(op): 8:42am On Jul 18, 2014
The Hague (AFP) - A young Dutchman
apparently posted a picture of the
downed Malaysian airliner on Facebook minutes before he boarded it, writing: "If it should disappear, this is what it looks like."

Cor Pan, who appeared to be going on a beach holiday to Malaysia, posted the photo as a joking reference to another Malaysia Airlines flight that mysteriously disappeared over the Indian Ocean in March.

A few hours later his flight too would disappear from radar screens, taking him and the other 297 people on board the Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur flight to their deaths in eastern Ukraine.

Although there has been no confirmation that Cor, from Volendam, nine miles (15 kilometres) north of Amsterdam, was on board, his photo of the aircraft on the tarmac is tagged "near Schipol airport" and appears to have been taken from the gate as passengers waited to board.

The comments by his friends on
Facebook, however, seem to indicate
that he was on board the flight. Late on Thursday his picture had been shared more than 10,000 times on the social media site. "This can't be true!" said Alicia de Boer.

Petra Bleeker posted a picture of Cor and his girlfriend Neeltje Tol on which she superimposed a white rose, signifying death. It was unclear whether Tol was also on the flight. "Such a beautiful couple who have been taken from life. I wish you the best wherever you are," said Peter Bootsman.

omoluabi1960: @Tsetsefly.thanks for your response..so as regards my wife schooling in russia..who still has her work with the insurance company in nigeria..what should be her status?
Her status should read where she works and fill study leave in your other information.

Come with original study permit visa and authorisation from her dept to proceed for holiday and transcripts if possible addressed in sealed envelopes to the United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria.

omoluabi1960: As for me with missing passport there is a column indicating if I have a missing passport and to explain how it got missing..do I declare it or I should forget about declaring it since you advised that previous visa on missing passports dont count..
Waiting endlessly to read from you sir
Indicate that your passport is missing and state how it got missing.

Also fill the countries you've visited in the past(only the one's you can prove with previous copies of valid visas).

COs do not take photocopies as original, but it will help you avoid future questioning and hassles as well as assist during Administrative Processes if need be.

Just make sure you bring copies with you along for your interview, you could be asked.

superfavour: Tzetzefly, pls confirm is the bible training college a M-1 visa category?
An M-1 visa is a type of student visa reserved for vocational and technical schools.

To obtain an M-1 visa for traveling to the United States, a student must present a signed Form I-20 at a United States embassy or consulate in his home country.

The I-20 is issued by a designated school official, typically the international student adviser, after the student has fulfilled a school's admissions requirements and presented proof of financial resources.

For short periods of recreational study, a Visitor (B) visa can be used.

Enrollment in a short recreational course of study, which is not for credit toward a degree or academic certificate, is permitted on a visitor (B) visa.

1.I have few travel history in my old passport which is missing but I have the data page ..expired 2010 places I visited then were egypt..malaysia..jamaica all for work related issues
2. My new e passport only had a visa before the chips got damaged due to lagos flood in 2012...I did a 1 yr course in russia then and visited nigeria twice during the process of schooling
3.I have a new int passport with visas I have not used..trinidad and tobago and cuba..I couldnt due to my wife's health but she is better
4. I am married with 3 kids
5.I earn 420k monthly working at the ministry of works and transport of my state
6. My wife works at an insurance company where she earns 180k monthly..
7. Her presence status is student cos she still schools in russia her residence just expired and she has a renewed visa already on her new passport too
8. I have my kid sister schooling in usa under my sponsorship at the moment.

Please we plan going for vacation what are our chances and finally we have never applied to the usa embassy ..our first time

Also do I include my travel history even as I dont have any evidence of it now on new passport as others are missing but atleast I havr copy of my expired russian residence or study permit with me.

Please your response and contributions will be highly appreciated .God bless the house
Evidence of past travels without entry stamps to prove these in a travel document, cannot be tendered as evidence of previous travel in the U.S. Diplomatic Mission.

Your travel documents is missing and that is final i must say. Photocopies of previously issued visas to other countries, are not valid for a U.S. visa application.

If you need to show that you travelled previously, then show this with a visa in an international passport even if it is damaged due to a broken microchip.

Each and everyone in the group need to show adequate ties to Nigeria in order to qualify.

3. yes me, my father n 1 of my sistr doing jobs... brothr iz student n mothr house wife.
4. for visiting my uncle family ( my mom's brothr n his family)
5. no any of us is not holding dual nationality.
Your uncle should write an IV to invite you all which would be presented to a VO if asked.

Your job and other social ties in Pakistan must be solid enough for each member of the group to be able to return back to.

Most importantly, know why you need to visit your relative in the States.

As my father is working in Nigeria so bank statement is on my mother’s name in US dollars. Will it can b an issuehuhKindly tell me how much chances of getting visa we all havehuh We are from Pakistan so will apply from Pakistan. Thanks…
choco
Questions for you to answer here:

1. Do you reside in Nigeria?

2. Who among your guys is applying for the U.S. visa?

3. Does he/she have a job and how long ago?

4. What is your purpose for travel?

5. Lastly, your age and do you hold dual nationality?

Something for you to note:

Each applicant is treated separately from the group.

Your sibling's and parent's travel experience applies to that individual who made the trip and does not favour an application made as part of a group.

mrbamo: Hello,

This is my first time to use this platform and I hope to get some good help from here. I am a Nigerian, I am studying in China, myself and my classmate (Nigerian) would like to attend an academic conference at a school in USA where we wish to present our paper at the event (our abstract has been approved by the organizers). The questions are;

1) Do we need to go back to Nigeria to apply or we can apply here in China?

2) I could remember that I applied for F-1 visa in 2010, Yes! I applied in China but I was denied on the ground that I have no social background. Do you think this may have any effect on the next application? Even though I cant remember any of those information I filled in the old DS156 then, That Biometric thing should still be there.

3) What supporting documents do you think would be of help? I am a genuine traveler and I have visited a number of countries before now. Been to my Nigeria twice in the last two years too.

I am asking because I want to know and I cant afford to fail or raise a false hope. ASK AND U SHALL BE TOLD!!!

MR B
How come you applied for an F-1visa from China? That was very wrong but not a redflag either.

If you have a resident permit and an authorisation to stay in China, then you can apply from Beijing.

Afterall, you are only going for a conference with an approved abstract already in place.

You will need to convince the CBP officer on why you did not attend the church convention being the first purpose for which the visa was issued.

Secondly, you must have proof of funds to spend, confirmed accomodation, return ticket and tourist locations to visit.

Here is my story, I am planning on going for about 16days Vacation along with my uncle(we are not related, But i reside with him and he has a valid visiting visa and gone so many times)

We are both going for fun, sight seeing, etc. He is sponsoring the entire trip(over 10Million in account)

I have a good job, N355k Monthly, leave has been approved for September, been working with them for 13months, my total work experience is 3years. Only traveled to Cote D'ivoir once (Returned same day by Road)

We intend staying in a hotel but separate rooms at Washington DC and and also visit another state.

What are my chances, is there any loophole i should be aware of, also what other advice would you give.
Each applicant is assessed separately. Your uncle's application cannot help yours (you're not his child and dependant).

Tourism requires a previous travel experience in majority of cases, but it is not an end in itself.

You need a convincing proof that you have ties to Nigeria which you intend to return to.

he was given 2years multiple b1/b2.
please tzetzefly my friend cannot attend the conference again
my question is.how soon can he use the visa for tourism or can he use it for another conference?
and also in the visa they wrote annotation please what is the meaning of this?
An annotation is embossed on a visa to show the CBP officer why you're present in the States. It's like an answer already for a CBP officer.

What is annotated on your visa?

Meanwhile, you should be fine for a future visit. Tell the CBP officer
the truth about your situation and you will usually be let in.

Make it clear you are visiting the USA for tourism and not for other purposes.

Be ready, you'd be asked to show hotel reservation, sufficient funds; a return ticket and an idea on what you'd be doing during your vacation in the States.

Travel plans does change for most travellers. Make sure your reason for travel is convincing.

No need for worries though.
Good luck!
SportsBrazil Appears To Have Settled On A Scapegoat by tzetzefly(op): 6:02am On Jul 11, 2014
RIO DE JANEIRO – Brazil's World Cup capitulation was bad enough that it was always going to require a scapegoat. It looks like the host nation has found one.

Fred, a homegrown player and formerly a local hero, has borne as much of the brunt as anyone over the team's 7-1 semifinal defeat to Germany despite having little responsibility on defense.

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is expected to drop the center forward from the starting lineup for Saturday's third-place playoff against the Netherlands in Brasilia, as Brazil desperately tries to regain some pride and finish the tournament strongly.

"Our commitment is valid to the end of the World Cup," Scolari said.

For Fred, this World Cup has been nothing like what he hoped. One of Brazil's most popular players coming into the tournament, he had his face adorning billboards around the country and was especially loved among the female population.

But his poor displays on the pitch have disappointed the home fans. His every touch, every move and every attempted pass or turn was jeered toward the end of the Germany debacle.

It used to be so different. Fred used to tell reporters that it is "good to be Fred in Brazil." Not anymore.

"It leaves a scar that we'll have to carry with us for the rest of our lives," he said of the loss to Germany.

For Brazil, there is an eye to the future here, one spawned from necessity. Any major disappointment usually brings change and those most advanced in years are first on the chopping block. At 30, Fred falls into that category.

Suddenly, it seemed like he got old. Brazilian television commentators used to say that the fact Fred played in the Brazilian league was an advantage and made him a little bit of an unknown quantity for rival defenders. Now the script has flipped. Now the word is that local-based players are not up to international competition.

The skeptics might have a point. The standard of the Brazilian league is high – its champion Cruzeiro is a fantastically well-drilled outfit with plenty of flair and a lot of physicality. Fred's own team, Fluminense, is a potent outfit, too.

However, soccer is a slightly different game in Europe, with different emphases and tactical nuances. Given that virtually all of the best players in the world play there, South Americans included, that is the way the international game has naturally developed. Fred, approaching the twilight of his career, could not keep up.

Scolari made a point of noting that many of the players on the Brazil squad still will be around for the 2018 World Cup. On Saturday, surely the younger players will primarily make up the starting XI against the Netherlands.

That, in all probability, means a sad end for Fred with him being stuck on the bench.

Twelve months ago, he was the star of the Confederations Cup. Even two weeks ago, he was still beloved, being cheered by fans as he was substituted against Chile in the round of 16 and Scolari was booed for replacing him with Jo.

That is not the case any longer. Brazil is a warm and loving country, but its scapegoats get the raw end of the deal. Just ask fallen heroes of yesteryear.

Such is the likely fate for poor Fred, a man who dreamed of World Cup glory but found only heartache in its place.

TravelRe: Usa Visit Visa by tzetzefly(m):
twizzie: Thanks for the info. Pls What do you advice we do now? Should we write a letter or petition?
She should contact the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for further directive.

However, to obtain an H-4 visa to enter the U.S. with their H-1B beneficiary spouse, both husband and wife should visit the U.S. Consulate located in their home country and apply for both the H-1B visa and the
H-4 visa simultaneously.

All required documentation should be brought to the U.S. Consulate at this time.

Similarly, if an H-1B holder is in the U.S. and his/her spouse is overseas, the
spouse may apply for an H-4 visa at the
U.S. Consulate by himself/herself in the
home country.

H-4 visa holders may later change their status to anyone of the following: H-1, F-1 , B-1 , B-2 , or other non-immigrant statuses, depending on their requirements.

H-4 holders may stay in the U.S. for a maximum period of six years.

Hope this is clear enough?

babylawyr: Hi Tzetzefly and other house mates,

My case is a bit related to that of Mr Sheuk above,it has been bothering me for a while now but seeing Mr. Sheuk's post just set me off.

I really dunno why I was denied a US visiting visa in 2013, however, the last question i was asked by the VO was how did my sister get into the US. i was not prepared for the question, i cant even remember how i answered, i must have said she is a legal resident or something worse cry.

However, let me emphasis that my sister went to the US on a visiting visa in 2002 or so, she never overstayed her visa tenure she comes back regularly and she is currently LPR (Green card holder) now (thanks to her current employers). She has successfully invited several people in the past who obtained visas including my parents.

From my myopic point of view, i felt that i was denied cos all my siblings live are in the US (legally, if i may add) (i had to disclose that on the Visa Form), and the VO feels/felt i want to escape and join the party.

I have travel history, been to the UK a couple of times and some other random places.
I have a stable job with enough money to sponsor myself.

I plan to apply again in Oct or Nov and i need help with answering the following questions i feel may come up:

1. Why were you denied a visa in 2013.

2. How did your sister/brother enter the US.

3. How many of your siblings do you plan to visit during your vacation.

Also, am considering getting another of my sibling to invite me or at least i will state that i will be staying with him/her and get an invitation letter. Is it wise? Will they think am avoiding something? or should i just stick to the sibling used previously.

[s]Worst case scenario i can wait till one of them is graduating next year and state that i am going for the graduation. (no plenty story)[/s]

Please am happy to receive as many opinions/suggestions/recommendations as possible.

Looking forward to the responses. Thank you.
You can visit the States without IV letters from your siblings. However, you need to indicate their presence in the States on your DS-160 once you apply.

so can they still go for the K3?
H-1B visa holders can bring their spouse and children under 21 years of age to the US under the H4 Visa category as dependants.

An H4 Visa holder is allowed to remain in the US as long as the H-1B visa holder remains in legal status.

While, an H4 visa holder is not eligible to work in the US, they may attend school, obtain a driver's license and open a bank account while in the US.
