PoliticsRe: Buhari’s Defence Allocations Hit N5tn, Over 11,420 Nigerians Killed In Six Years by Uchek(m): 10:30pm On Aug 08, 2021
You have shown the level of your intelligence by comparing gun violence in United States and total breakdown of security in Nigeria. Your education investment is a monumental waste.

deji17:
More people die in the USA every year due to gun violence and they spend multiple fold on defence and internal security. Yet nobody is blackmailing their country with the numbers.

2020 was the deadliest gun violence year in decades. So far, 2021 is worse. Gun-related deaths from preventable, intentional, and undetermined causes totaled 39,707 in 2019, nearly flat from 39,740 deaths in 2018.

Mourners at a memorial for the 10 people killed in a mass shooting at a Boulder, Colo., grocery store. The March rampage is part of what’s been an especially deadly year for gun violence, one experts fear will only get worse. (Rachel Woolf for The Washington Post)
By Reis Thebault
The shootings have come at a relentless pace. Gun violence this year has cut through celebrations and funerals, places of work and houses of worship. It has taken lives at a grocery store and in a fast-food drive-through lane.

And most of all, it has unfolded on city streets and in family homes, away from the cameras and far from the national spotlight.

By almost every measure, 2021 has already been a terrible year for gun violence. Many fear it will get worse. Last weekend alone, more than 120 people died in shootings, according to the Gun Violence Archive, with three especially dangerous incidents in Austin, Chicago and Savannah, Ga., leaving two dead and at least 30 injured.

Through the first five months of 2021, gunfire killed more than 8,100 people in the United States, about 54 lives lost per day, according to a Washington Post analysis of data from the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research organization. That’s 14 more deaths per day than the average toll during the same period of the previous six years.

Prioritization of job creation and employment generation is the way forward in the effort to close the widening gap of unemployment. This administration is looking pretty much on track in this aspect.

The autonomy signed by Mr. President is not being followed by some state governments in fact, majority by of them refused to adhere to it. The local government has been outrightly marginalised and this is getting worrisome because the grassroots is where the foundation of everything start.

That's book confirmed Ogundipe and Adebayo as cowards whose actions or inaction allowed the North to hijack power and dominate Nigeria today

Erudite77:
This is not about being a coward!

Ogundipe realised that no junior officers were in his support! When he gave an order to make a safe landing for Ironsi, the officers sent were ambushed. When he tried to send other officers, they declined! So he sensed mutiny.

Let me remind you.You can't declare yourself without internal support. Obasanjo was able to declare himself because TY Danjuma and Sheu Musa Yaradua were in his support. They emboldened him.

Did you know that Murtala and other junior officers were looking for him before they could ask Yakubu Gowon to take over? They wanted him to hand over peacefully. They never wanted him to assume the position.

So when Ogundipe realised that he was not safe again, he left the country in the midnight. Until then Gowon was able to become Head of State.

I can recommend this link. You'll see the man that saved Ogundipe's life.

Read this interesting account of how Ogundipe was saved!

How would he bring war to his people? Can the North fight both the East and West at the same time? Ok he didn't want to bring war to his people but he was willing to bring war to Eastern Region and partake in the massacre of millions of lives. A case of what is good for the goose is not good for the gander.

You are absolutely right that he was not part of the coup and that the most senior officer in the military must not necessarily take over power. So why become a spokesperson of the an administration that humiliated you and hounded you out of office? Why didn't he reject Gowon's position of Nigerian High Commissioner to UK by telling Gowon that he was not going to be a part of government that hijacked power and subjugated and oppressed Yoruba military? That singular act would have made him a man of integrity and moral courage.

paramakina202:
Isn't it better than being dead and maybe bringing war to his people lose at the end and still go to exile after millions must have died?
Who told you the most senior officer in the military must take over power when he weren't part of the coup plot?

Stop lying on social media. When and where did Bello started replacing Igbos in Northern civil service that led to resentment.

louqas:
The bolded confirms igbo domination....which most Nigerians especially northerners and southern minority fear most. Pre independence, civil service of northern nigeria was peopled mainly by ibos , which make them feel like lords and eventually lead to resentments. Ibos too felt bad when Ahmadu bello started replacing erstwhile ibo public sevants with new graduates of northern extration...they mocked his death because of that further infuriatung northerners ...who then decided enough was enough with the 1967 coup......

PoliticsRe: Why Biafra Lost The War - {a Must Read} by Uchek(m): 8:02am On Aug 05, 2021
You don't understand the true definition of victims. The Nigeria-Biafra War and its after effects is the foundation of the political and economic marginalization Ndigbo in Nigeria and the root cause of Nigeria being a FAILED STATE which is affecting everybody - including the regions and ethnic groups that fought against Biafra.

Stating this truth over and over again is not playing victim. From the May 1967 state creation by Gowon which deliberately carved out Igbo areas into the new states to the post-war centralization of our commanding heights of Nigeria's and deliberate government policies to economically castrate defunct Eastern Region. Articulating these grievances is not playing victim but stating reality. The average Igbo man is not asking for handout or special treatment. I am curious, HOW ARE WE BLAMING OTHER TRIBES FOR OUR WOES?

"Igbos daily alienate other ethnic nationalities that should have been their allies by insulting and name-calling them thereby driving those that should have been a natural partner to the other edge"

So Ndigbo are the only one that alienate other ethnic nationalities by insulting and name-calling? Other ethnic nationalities don't engage in such practices. You don't ascribe a behavior exhibited by every one to one ethnic group, exclusively. That's double-standard of morality. If because of that, other ethnic nationalities refuse to align with Ndigbo to free themselves from this colonial imprisonment called Nigeria, then we don't need such allies. He that is down fears no fall. We are already down in post-Biafra Nigeria. We will all continue to suffer until Nigeria kills all of us.

Come to think of it, you are more worried by the insults and name-calling of Ndigbo than the ethnic killings in the North in the last 50 years where thousands of southerners -particularly Ndigbo have bee killed and properties destroyed. How many non-Igbos have been killed in Alaigbo compared to Northern and Western Nigeria?

cocolacec:
Emotion without reasoning.

That is the whole sum of IPOB and their Supreme Leader wants them just like that.

Should they reason and ask simple questions, his house of cards will collapse.

Ask questions and you are a sabo, Fulani slave or efulefu.

Kanu did not set up IPOB Worldwide Limited to actualize anything.

He realized through Uwaziruike's MASSOB that Ndi Igbo are easily swayed by anything Biafra and he latched on to that emotional vulnerability to scam our gullibiles.

He hasn't taken a single step towards what it would take to actualize a diverse entity like Biafra.

His personality is incapable of such delicate and patient venture.

It is all a scam. Just see how they are fighting over money. I mean who are even those contributing money to this joke?

By-the-way, Kanu once promised yoruba people 1-million ipob soldiers in support of their own agitation for independence.

Now is the time to activate those foot soldiers if they truly exist. They should send them to Aso Rock to rescue director, instead of fooling around with needless propaganda.

How are Igbos playing the victims?

Lifestone:
I must agree that this is a piece of brilliant narratives by Mazi Ani and I salute his analysis of the events of the Civil War that in his views contributed largely to the defeat of Biafra.
However his attempt to exonerate Ojukwu did not fit into the narratives that he himselves postulated. It is part of accountability for leadership to be held responsible for the outcome of events or circumstances they presided on and Ojukwu can never be excused from the outcome of the civil war.
I am surprised that Mazi will attempt to remove Ojukwu from the context of inability to properly define his circumstances and developing strategies to overcome them. Those narratives as exposed by Mazi Ani did not fully satisfy why Igbos lost the war. To me Biafra was not ready when they entered into the war, the building of international allies and partners were not strong enough to justify the haste of going into war, a little perseverance for a more global support base would have helped.
Secondly, the preparedness of their arms readiness is also a factor to be questioned, as elucidated by Mazi, they were outgunned and significantly outnumbered on man to man, so I question the rationale of starting the war in such circumstances.
Relying on human sacrification in war situation and hoping for an outcry from international communities is foolish and as it played out, the world looked away while about 3million souls were wasted just because of the poor judgment of an individual.
Today indeed has significantly changed in world ideology, national configuration as Mazi said, but little has changed in the Igbo approach to the actualization of Biafra and it almost look certain that the outcome will not be different given what it is now. There hasn't been enough international support other than largely from Igbos based in the diaspora,
Igbos daily alienate other ethnic nationalties that should have been their allies by insulting and name-calling them thereby driving those that should have been a natural partner to the other edge. Today, the formation of ESN and killings of fellow igbos who is not on same page with them will continue to create internal divide and send wrong signals to others as to how the new Biafra will look like.
As a tribe, igbos must stop playing the victim and recalibrate their politics to a winning strategy that will create a new Nigeria that we can all thrive and flourish now and in the future.
