Morals ofcourse but a degree adds some level of intelligence too. A highly moral barrow pusher can't run the affiars of a nation no matter how moral he or she is. |

Politics › Re: From 2011, Presidents And Governors Must Have A Degree by udezue(m): 5:42pm On Mar 27, 2010 |
I support the idea of obtaining some degree / having some level of education. Thats not a guarantee that those elected officials with their degree will be wonderful but it atleast sets some standards in a nation where standards doesn't exist. But they also have to check the level of corruption in the nations learning institututions coz I've come across some Nigerians claiming to have studied and graduated from a Nigerian University but act like common omata man.
As for citizenship. That makes no sense. If 1 or both parent is Nigerian I see no reason why the person should be denied the right to run for office. Being born abroad or in Nigeria is something that the person can't control so why use that against them? What happened to dual citizenship? What have so called homeborn Nigerians shown to prove that they possess better leadership quality than the ones born abroad? |

EzeUche, My family is from Ujari but moved to Ajali in Anambra. True that many understand Ibibio but I think its mostly Arochukwu ppl living in Arochukwu not the ones that migrated deeper into Igbo land. A lot of my relatives still marry Efik-Ibibios too. Also my dad's people na Awka so I'm still trying master Aro and Awka dialect. I thought the dialect I heard my cousins speak was Aro but in actuality its Ajali anambra dialect mixed with some Aro dialects. We still have Ibibio last name tho we don't speak the language. My mom understands Ibibio tho. |

Beaf: Most times when people say this bullsh!t of South South being mean to Igbo's during the war, I ignore it or try to make them see reason. But the amount of senseless accusations on this thread is mind boggling; it is like being called a thief when you are innocent. Caution Otele, I don't expect that you would fall into the same trap. That the Igbo had problems with two South South groups does not make it the whole of the South South. I can name tens of South South ethnic group from Afemai to Ibibio.
Thank you for all your questions. You have only gone to show that there is no reason for anybody to accuse the South South of any wrong doing against Igbos. Benin does not equate to the South South. Therefore, I stand by every word I said. There is a lot wrong with people throwing false accusations around, whereas, this is the time we need to open our eyes and cooperate.
As for minorities not joining in the war, we weren't asked or invited, but were caught in a war between massive forces. The so called "Republic of Benin" was declared without any consultation and governed by an Igbo man Albert Nwazu Okonkwo. My own father was saved from exequition at that time, just for being in the civil service; his driver saved him. Does he hate Igbo's now? No! Do I? No!
The most important thing right now, is to realise that mistakes are made when blood is hot. The civil war has come and gone, tragically, so many lives were lost. We must always look back at the errors we all committed and plan for a better tomorrow. The South South are not enemies to the Igbo. Any differences with the Ijaw and Bini's can be thrashed out, but they do not make up the South South. Still love u bruhhh. |
