Good to hear, U have moved up in ur career cos I followed ur thread abt a yr ago on a career decision U wanted to make. Nwa afo, ur boy nokwa ya.
conyema12: Wonderful thread. ..

For me I worked in Nigeria Offshore precisely the transocean jackup rigs for 2yrs. Like 30mins choppper ride from PH Airforce base. Its a wonderful experience. Infact what I enjoyed most is the brotherly love that circumvents esp at the rig fellowship.
It can really be boring when you are on standby because of operational reasons. The food is great for the few days after which I only have to cope with the mundane taste. I also cherish the wonderful view at nights watching other countless production platforms radiating their light at nights. It reminds me of how rich nigeria is.
Most times I add 3kg to my weight before heading home.

but presently am in Middle East and most of my colleagues are Arab , indians and some indonesians. I will say the arab guys are wonderful ppl with good heart.
the major challenge here is communication as most my colleagues speak less english with asian accent..
woow I forgot the weather.. its terribly hot here with temperature Most times at 48 degrees.

@Babestell, I see U.
babestell: Where are the ladies na? Abi we don't have nairaland females working offshore. Babes represent na.

Am a petroleum engr so I visit the rigs on a need to basis. My worst experience on a rig wad when we had drilling containment issues and were in danger of getting a kick and this was a gas well. I just grabbed my safety vest and stood by the life raft. My life was just flashing in front of me like cinema, we did take the kick but it was properly contained.

sometimes its tough. Have been the only femaleror maybe just 2 of us out of so many guys. And its not fun jor, too monotonous. I was on the rig during world cup and they made me watch football matches even when my fav programme was on on hip tv. Thank God I was able to pull seniority on some occasions.

Feel good reading ur own part of the thread, i cant say but its just special to me.
And again the 'Deuces'
sweetkisses: Very interesting thread and big kudos to you guys out there cos its not easy.
I've worked on some OML and OPL fields both offshore and onshore as an environmental field officer(contract staff) and its been an amazing experience for me. Each time I go back to work its always like its my first time. I love the sea and the serenity is divine,sea animals and the endless stretch of the ocean makes you appreciate God the more. Mmmmmm Foooood!!!! Its in abundance you get to enjoy various types of dishes, for a lady like me I tend to skip d midday meal and try to jump start my metabolism with breakfast also I exercise a lot to let off both positive and negative energy. The bathroom is my best spot because the mixture of both hot and cold water is therapeutic and I get to spend quality time there. At night when the sea is not rough,it rocks your boat and you get to sleep like a baby,on the rig its just normal.
The job is fun but has got its dangerous side. I remember a certain time during the rainy season when the sea was pretty rough,whilst going about my normal work a rough storm came upon us and I was almost swept into the ocean,thank God I'm alive to tell the story but I wasn't deterred from going back offshore. I hope to get a permanent job and continue with this job I love so much. .......Deuces

@Glitterdust, am pained reading this happening 2 U in dis age. However, check urself in the past if U have caused any wife pain by being emotionally attached to the hubby or smthing like dat. If U can remember any, just kneel and sincerely ask 4 forgiveness for Ur good and dat of ur kids. This things can b serious, am not accusing U. I pity lots of young girls now cos they are preparing bad time for them in future. Anyway, be strong, learn a skill as U market ur sister's goods. A skill will give u money without much capital. Which city are U staying. Send me a pm. God bless U.
