Politics18years Of Nigerias Democracy: Military Generals Still Calling The Shots by Ugik(op): 10:04pm On Nov 29, 2017
In economics,an independent population also refereed to as the workforce is seen as those who can fend for themselves, make life changing decisions and contribute their quota to the development of the society.

Those who are refereed to as working class or independent based on Nigerian standard as it differs from country to country falls within the age bracket of 18-65years.The same criteria is used by the USA.

Now,what this means is that anyone who has attained the rightful age of 18 in any of these countries has the full privilege given to him/her as a citizen but most importantly Is the fact that the person becomes a "master of his own life" and is bound to make his own "decisions".
In other words,as far as democracy is concerned,Nigeria is an adult.

as an adult, everything about our political system is to be decided by Nigerians devoid of any control. But what irks me is that after 18years of democracy, the military generals still call the shots, determining who gets what, when and how. Starting from the birth of our democracy,of all the viable and vibrant candidates in Nigeria,OBJ,a military general, was released to contest and eventually rule a country he once ruled some 20years back.

As if that wasn't enough, when the 2007 election came, despite the fact that Atiku who wasn't a military man wanted to contest, the same military generals rejected him for disobedience and instead chose Yardua who we all know never wanted to run for that office but anyways, he was selected to compensate the family for the unjust demise of his brother who was a military general.

Thereafter, this same process has continued and when GEJ went out of his way to disobey the military general,he eventually suffered a huge defeat from the messiah who would save the country from its problems,PMB,a military general too. Despite the fact that GEJ administration was involved in high scale corruption but that was the surface reason for the whole political brouhaha. His major crime was that he stopped doing the bidding of the general.

Now after 2015,PDP,been the opposition has managed to try get their affairs together. At least, they are planning a convention to elect a new chairman for the party. Thats not my problem. My problem is that these aspirants all went to seek the blessings of OBJ,IBB and ABUBAKAR,all military generals and to add salt to the whole injury, the PDP presidential aspirants still visited these same military generals for their blessings.Even GEJ asked Atiku to beg OBJ if he must clinch the parties ticket, thats completely insane and absurd.

Isn't it about time our Democratic political system should grow up and be the adult its supposed to be. We ought to transcend from a myopic political ideology where we believe these military generals got the yam and the knife and decide who they give it to. Its just not healthy for our nascent democracy. The military somewhat contributed 60% of Nigeria's generational economic problems.
Our new generation of leaders do not owe them this homage they enjoy and they must learn to do away with this political sycophancy. Individuals cannot be bigger than an entire country

I don't see how our pre colonial system of administration affects our so called current political misfortune..you will discover that we continued that system of administration until the British introduced warrant chiefs and native authority in our region.
This writeup doesn't adress the bane of our problem or trace its roots to our pre colonial system of administration.

PoliticsRe: Anambra Governorship Elections 2017, The Winners And Losers by Ugik(m): 3:50pm On Nov 26, 2017
I need to point out a few things I disagree with here.. first is the issue of IPOB been one of the major losers.I dont support secession but their mark on the anambra governorship election is not something a political pundit should choose to ignore.an election where 22% of eligible voters came out to vote tells you that our southeast brothers are somewhat under the grip of IPOB including my state,Enugu where LGA elections were conducted earlier before the anambra polls..IPOB analytically speaking made a statement that day and mass education of our brothers will go a long way in addresing the situation..

secondly,Peter obi is not one of the losers of anambra election despite the fact that his party the PDP lost..truth is every political party tend to bring out their propaganda machinery and the question is,are you ready to play dirty?.. obiano starts playing dirty when he brought to light the 7billion naira problem he had with obi and towards the tail end of the campaign,Bianca came up with the purported promise peter obi made to Ojukwu, truth is without the Ojukwu factor,we would ve been telling a different tale. he did not play dirty but played defensive and sufferd severely for it..no matter what you tend to say about him,he is a huge force to reckon with still in anambra.i dont see such a person who has that. cult followership as a loser.

president buhari should not even be mentioned there..previous administrations have tried to use federal might to suppress anambra election.it has never worked,is it now it will work?..we should learn to stop been unnecessary praise singers...Simply put,u love obiano and I know you should cos he has tried, but this writeup is not a divergent writeup..it seems personal
Christianity EtcRe: Is Daddy Freeze The Problem With Nigerian Christianity? by Ugik(m): 12:57pm On Nov 26, 2017
i dont think his quest for clarification is out of line..we must understand that change is dynamic and not static..galileo questioned the catholic theory and belief that the earth is flat and this did not sit out well with Christendom during that period who saw it as a slap on God,but see where we are now,the earth is Spherical.
if for one thing, this issue has exposed the innermost thinking of some Christians cos the reception he got showed that Christians in their private thoughts have questioned the efficacy of tithe..instead of condemnations, our spiritual leaders must as they ve done in the days of old clear the doubt's of brethrens.
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan To Atiku: Beg Obasanjo, Get PDP Ticket by Ugik(m): 12:47pm On Nov 26, 2017
its completely wrong for GEJ to make such a statement..I may not be a fan of ATIKU but vying for Nigeria's highest political office is done for the sake of the Nigerian populance and one must seek the peoples mandate and not the blessings of a retired general and former president.. in as much as politics involves a lot of hobnobbing and lobbying but this statement is way out of line..it truncates everything internal democracy stands for in a party
PoliticsMarriage Is A Choice Not A Societal Obligation by Ugik(op): 12:14pm On Nov 26, 2017
Will all the murder of husbands by their wives going on these past weeks, one begins to wonder the tenacity and importance of marriage as a union.

Marriage is not compulsory. You go into it as a matter of choice and if it makes you Happy and not because society deems it necessary that you do.
I haven't decided yet if marriage is the right thing for me cos its not easy bringing two different peoples baggage and both of them agreeing to carry it.
It takes a lot of mental maturity of which am not ready for right now.if you want to get married, always pray and hope to find the right woman who will give you a happy home.

If you take what's,been going on in the news as a yardstick to condemn marriage and women take their domestic violence treatment into consideration, we will all stay single for the rest of our lives.
PoliticsDoes Shouting During Prayers Guarantee Quick Answer? by Ugik(op): 11:48am On Nov 26, 2017
The volume of our voice has nothing to do with the efficacy of our prayers. Since we are human beings,we pray according to the abundance of our heart, thats why when we are angry with our situation and disturbed about our present predicament, most people tend to shout while praying.

Prayer is a spiritual thing. God and even demons can hear you pray no matter how silent you are.

Its the confidence of faith that makes prayer effective not the shouting.. Lets learn to be civil with our prayers for the sake of the people around us.
PoliticsAtiku And The Chronicle Of Chasing Shadows by Ugik(op): 11:30am On Nov 26, 2017
Just when i thought Atiku was going to be APC's jack sparrow who will protect his ship with so much love and care no matter what, instead,he jumps ship again.

.if he likes let him decamp to mars,he will never rule nigeria for obvious reasons and if PDP presents atiku as their candidate,2019 will be a walk over for buhari..

First,Atiku has made himself appear desperate for the office of the president and this is a turn off for electorates like me and he wont be taken serious.little wonder,he is associated with the term "political prostitute".
Second reason why atiku's unelectability in Nigeria is lengendary is due to the baggage of corruption accusations hanging round his neck even though they are unsubstantiated.

At the moment,no politician in Nigeria apart from muhammadu Buhari can boost of 15million votes even in the face of opposition. Truth is,despite all that has been happening within his government, his abysmal lack of coherence, all the make beliefs and charade, his fan base has growna nd even larger. Before you counter what I say, keep sentiments aside especially if you are from my region, the south east,be realistic and you will discover that online criticism and ranting has never influenced voters decision at all.

Come 2019,should buhari contest, like him or not,he will coast to a landslide victory irrespective of who the opposition candidate is,even if its Atiku. Most political pundits argue that since its going to be a northern contest that PMB will face a stiffer contest but truth is he won't..both PMB and Atiku have a lot of fan base in the north,I may not like PMB and his method of politics but judging from past records,he will come out victorious both in south west and north.

Even if the battle ground shifts to the SS and SE,it will be one hell of a ride..My region, SE,believes in the zonal arrangement of 2023 been the turn of an Igbo man even though its not guaranteed but I believe they won't take a chance on Atiku as that will mean waiting till 2027 before it gets to us and that is still also not guaranteed.

The best bet will be to get PMB to finish his tenure and if this permutation doesn't work, our vote may be very negligible cos of the high rate of voter apathy that has been the order of the day, using anambra election and enugu LGA election as a case study.

Another angle here is based on the theory that the north may Want to keep power and voting Atiku guarantees them an extra 4years more. How all these will play out, only time will tell but what I can predict is that the next president of Nigeria come 2019 will still be PMB.
Foreign AffairsRobert Mugabe: The Syndrome Of Sit Tight Presidents In Africa by Ugik(op): 10:55am On Nov 26, 2017
Robert mugabe fought for the independence of Zimbabweans and thereafter held on to power for 37years.Now he has gone, another sit tight president has emerged and only time will prove me right.

Who is Robert Mugabe?
This is the case of a man who was considered a revolutionary, did his best for the independence of Zimbabwe from the Rhodesian regime of ian smith.. He is a man respected by the entire black race but unlike nelson Mandela who he shares a lot of similarities with,he lost his way.

Instead of building strong Democratic institutions and hand over to the younger generation, like most African leaders, he began to act like an authoritarian, abandoning the nationalism interest of Zimbabwe and creating his own Marxist ideology. He also got himself wrapped up in the cloaks of an ambitious wife who wasn't born during the liberation struggle try to usurp position and become president.

Nasimgbe Yadena ruled Togo for 38years, Felix oboah, Sasa Agwero, Mahmoud Ghadafi, Olushegun Obasanjo and so many past and present African leaders held and are still holding unto power for years. There is an element of diarchy in Africas political system. Its not in our culture to sit tight in office but this practice is a manifestation of greed.

Sit tight syndrome is something even the OAU has condoned cos if they condemn this practice of perpetuation of power,it won't be a normal thing here. Most of these African leaders come with bogus ideas which is usually different from the philosophy of nationalism. Mugabe for instance, sacked his VP and the question is does their constitution permit him to sack the VP? Removing his VP was a political miscalculation.

African leaders need to understand that political goodwill is fluid and time alters relevance. African leaders overstay their welcome and end up not adding value to the country. We need to learn from other western civilization.

Our leaders travel to these countries and see how things are done there. We must build our continent and our continent can only grow with the presence of strong institutions and not strong leaders
PoliticsDreams Are Not Always A Spiritual Attack by Ugik(op): 10:18am On Nov 26, 2017
I was listening to pastor banky of kingdom world ministry. He was talking about how a lady walked into his office and narrated her ordeal about how masquerades have been pursuing her in dreams. She told him that this dreams have been going on for a very longtime..

Together they prayed and there,he looked up to her and asked her "who she is owing" and who has she extorted money from under the pretext of marriage..
It was there I was made to understand that sometimes, the dreams we have are not always as a result of our village people chasing us or trying to kill us..It happened that she has been collecting money from different guys and then would leave them. An organized level of prostituon.
I was made to understand that the spirit of those people manifested in her dreams not cos they are evil but for the fact that she had them on her mind. The spiritual connectivity between them and her led to her engineering such scenario which then manifest as dreams.

He also talked about a plumber he gave a job and paid part payment for the job. Since after that, the plumber has been giving him flimsy excuses as to why he hasn't been able to come for the work.

Then one day,he called the plumber and to his surprise, the plumber told him he wasn't surprised he called cos he dreamt about him banging on his door and thats it..

Not every dream is tied to a spiritual warfare.Your pastor can pray for you for your dreams to disappear but as long as you have that fear and lack confidence in the tenacity of faith, you will not be able to stop those dreams.
Jobs/VacanciesOnly One Out Of 100 Nigerian Graduates Are Employable by Ugik(op): 8:47pm On Nov 24, 2017
It was annoying for me when i heard the DG of SMEAN say that "only one out of every 100 nigerian youth is employable".oga
,whats that supposed to mean nah?.taking a swipe at the students as been responsible for the high rate of unemployment in nigeria is not charitable and uncalled for.

As far as am concerned, unemployment in Nigeria is primarily a problem of failed leadership.the failure of our graduates to possess the pre requisite skill set and entreprenural competence is due to our university system, and the failure of our university to produce competent graduates is due to bad leadership, let the govt argue with themselves,am not feeling fine..

Compare our engineering students with MIT students, while their students embark on yearly internship at companies during their 5year course, our own students spend their time only inside classrooms learning theoretical aspect of the course and yet expect them to be above their Counterparts.Little wonder, our prospective post graduate study students keep getting rejected by foreign universites

the inability of our govt to equip our institutions for them to invest heavily in research and development has prevented them from functioning optimaly.thz results to the chunning out of half baked graduates.so i wonder what the govt was expecting..instead of blaming graduates, they should try and work out how they can salvage our educational institutions.

Powerful and in depth spiritual are the words I can use to qualify the much anticipated gospel album from upcoming act,Ify.
Ify,who her real name is okafor Ify hails from Achi,in Oji River LGA of Enugu State. She's a mother of 3 and lives in Lagos with her husband....Her love for God has led her into a deep search for spiritual involvement with God and thats the reason for the album titled "ORURUGI" in English means "it all belongs to you"
As she sets to launch her album on Nov 25th,my prayer for her is that the too lord who has set her on this path will give her the grace to abide by his words and may the song be a blessing to anyone who listens to it..

PoliticsAnambra Election: Why Ipob Must Remain Calm by Ugik(op): 8:30pm On Nov 17, 2017
It was the old Greek philosopher,Aesop in 520Bc who said "war is sweet to those who haven't experienced it". As youths,we need to understand that violence begets violence and war ends nothing. As Anambra election gets underway tomorrow, its not news that IPOB has asked Anambarians to sit tight at home tomorrow with their "vote and die" protest in Onitsha a few weeks ago.
The igbo nation may still be licking its wounds from the nearly 3years civil war of which its root cause can be traced as far back as the 1964 federal election and 1965 western election crisis that cumulated into the 1966 coup tagged the "igbo" coup.
Happy nations have no history and that's the phase we are going through now.The secession of the southeast for our brothers who support it must come via constitutional provisions through the rule of law no matter how long it takes as long as its majority that supports it.......But in the mean time, our brothers who share in the biafran sentiment must allow Anambarians the right to exercise their franchise tomorrow. understand that everyone must not support the biafran struggle.Truth is,if everyone does, then there's something wrong with it. Those who wish to vote should not be coarsed to abandon their civic Duty.
Let's not make things worse than it already is,let's not give the police and the security agencies more than they can handle. The death of any one tomorrow is the last thing we need in our region, sit at home if you won't vote, let those who want to vote go and elect a governor tomorrow
PoliticsPmb's Visit To Southeast: Southeast Elders Show Of Shame by Ugik(op): 7:48pm On Nov 17, 2017
"all hail the lion king,we love you...let the markets be shut and let the schools close" That was the scenario that played out when the president embarked on his visit to the southeast, the first of its kind since he assumed office...Many reasons can be given for this august visit as it coincides with the period Anambra election is been held. Mr president needed to fortify his defense in the Southeast ahead of 2019, he needed to calm nerves and show not just in words but in action that he was indeed running an all inclusive government.
Little wonder he massaged our ego when he told the teeming Igbo populance that gathers to see him that "Nigerians are Igbos and igbos at Nigerians"...I have no problem with his visit and will only advice him to ensure that his actions are in line with his words, you do not flog a child and then tell him not to cry.

My problem with the visit is not the president but the show of shame by the Igbo nation as they threw decorum to the trash can in the altar of political sycophancy. cultural values of the Igbo nation was brought to question that I really had to weep for my people.
Culture is seen as a peoples way of life and it encompasses their language, music, dance and belief.culture should not be sacrificed on the altar of politics. When PMB came to ebonyi,he was given the title "enyi ebonyi" by the ebonyi state traditional council and that is a good one, just like Atikus "turaki of adamawa". The title "Ochioha ndi Igbo" is a title that was uncalled for unless it was given by the council of traditional rulers in Igbo land, which in this case,it wasn't..a few traditional rulers who are supposed to protect the very sanctity of our cultural value are the same people making it look like a secondary school post.

To make matters worse,APC went castigating the Obi of Onitsha for
failing to leave his base to meet with Buhari at the
state capital. The Obi had insisted that Buhari
should visit him in his palace instead.
I don't know why any son of the soil should
encourage the desecration of his own royal stool
because of Politics even if he supports APGA as alleged.
When Buhari visits Sokoto, he does not send for
the Sultan of Sokoto. He goes to his palace to pay
homage.
You don't go to Osun and send for the Oni of Ife.
You seek him out to pay homage.
Not just here.
You don't go to England and send for the Queen to
come and see you. Donald Trump was in Japan
recently. He didn't send for the Emperor. He went
to his palace to pay homage.
Royal fathers/mothers are the custodians of their
domains. That is why they are universally
respected.
Why should the case of the Obi of Onitsha be
different? Can Buhari go to Edo and send someone
to call the Oba of Benin for him? Why can't our elders for once think like rationale beings and
accord same respect to a royal father of the South East?
PoliticsOur Governor Has Gone Mad Again !!! by Ugik(op): 12:33am On Nov 17, 2017
As an SS1 student in 2006 at university of Nigeria secondary school,Enugu campus, literature wasn't entirely my best subject. Well, due to so many reasons,I just didnt enjoy the subject but one thing still endeared me to it and thats the comedy novel by late Ola Rotimi titled "Our Husband has gone mad again"..The novel depicts the story of an old army general,Major lejoka brown, who lived in the past glory of his exploits and felt he had all it takes to win the state election. Eventually,he devices all political means and alliances to win the election but he lost cos he wasn't in touch with 21st century reality & coupled with the fact that his wives who were myopic and supporting him earlier, became enlightened and turned against him cos they wanted to better their lot and they believed they deserve more.
Gov Rocha's Okorocha is not far from the man,Lejoka Brown in so many respects. 2011 was the year Gov Rocha's took the political sphere by surprise. With so much love and support,he defeated an incumbent under the platform of a party that had no grand political bearing in IMO state.Rocha's was the man we all loved, worshiped and adored. The story seems to be different now as Gov Rocha's seems to be on antipodes with the people of IMO state that there's been an antipathy towards his government. Every policy statement he has made in the last couple of months seems to be anthithesis to the yearnings of his people. My governor, like lejoka Brown seems not to be in touch with reality anymore.
Despite the criticism that trailed the proposed demolition of a market in owerri and a subsisting court order asking the state government to maintain status quo,the government still went ahead with their plan and in the midst of the chaos that resulted due to that action,a young boy was killed..As if that wasn't enough heat, the salary of state workers were been owed but who says we can't overlook it? we can forgive that cos many governors are owing due to the recession and the oil glut problem, the financial power of every state seems to be affected. The governor was forgiven, everyone exercised patience believing that once money comes, the problems will be solved.
These were my humane thoughts until the statue of Jacob Zuma made headlines, reportedly costing over 500million.Money sufficient enough to settle the problems of the state. Just when we thought,we have heard the last of it,the statue of Ellen Johnson sirlreaf, president of Liberia got erected and now the reports in our dailys have it that the statue of Ghana's president has also been unveiled.

Its said that whoever the gods wants to punish, they first make mad but I honestly hope that won't be the case of Gov Rochas. The IMO people just like the wife's of Lejoka Brown are wiser and really want to better their lot. The earlier he realizes this, the better for him, else he will lose the little goodwill he is enjoying and may end up been a,political loner who will have an undecided future in the politics of IMO state after 2019.
PoliticsAnambra 2017 Election Battle:anambarians At A Cross Road by Ugik(op): 11:06pm On Nov 16, 2017
Nov,19th 2017,like an igbo proverb would say is "a pregnant woman and no one knows what she will give birth to". A lot of political pundits have argued that this is the biggest election to be held after the 2015 general election and I totally agree but let's leave that argument for another day.
The contenders on one side are gearing up and talking tough, calling up their godfathers to come save the day.APC's Tony nwoye has the incumbent Nigerian president,PMB, PDP's obaze oseloka has the immediate past president,GEJ and APGA's Willie Obiano is banking on the goodwill enjoyed by the late biafran war Lord and APGA founder, Odimegwu ojukwu while the other contenders are left to go commune with their gods. One peculiar thing about Anambra is that godfathers dont win elections as seen in previous elections in the state.Another peculiar thing about this election is that every contender has an equal chance to win this election and thats the major reason anambarians are at a cross road as I analyse the chances of these men as Saturday approaches

WILLIE OBIANO:what ordinarily should have been a smooth ride to a 2nd term in office has turned out to be a herculean task for the incumbent governor who many believed have done well in the last 4years in office but for his abysmal performance at the debates, the internal wrangling in his party coupled with the exit of Ojukwu jnr and his infamous "drinking master" signature, its really tough to say if he will be coming back for a 2nd tenure as its believed he no longer enjoys the goodwill of a section of anambarians.

TONY NWOYE:He is merely seen as a political toy in the cheese game to be used to conquer the queen(Southeast). No one seems to know much about him but merely that he is a stooge of prince Authur eze and the chosen one from Abuja.Nwoye will have a lot to prove to anambarians that he's the man for the job and not just a political robot. His education is still be questioned as no one knows for such why he left UNN as its rumored he was a cultist and once kidnapped a sitting governor.Nwoye has also not really been talking about what he will do for Ndi Anambra but only good at attacking Obiano and anambarians wonder if he actually has what it takes coupled with the animosity a section of the SE has for buhari, they believe a tony nwoye vote is a vote for buhari.

OSELOKA OBAZE:Despite been nearly Clean of public contempt, been in the PDP alone makes him ugly.PDP had been in power for 16years and anambra only got lip service with regards to the 2nd Niger bridge.the one thing he has going for him is the fact that peter obi is with him but that still sends a "godfatherism" signal which an anambarians do not want and unfortunately also, anambra has never voted for PDP before.

GODWIN EZEMO AND OSITA CHIDOKA:These two are new entrants.they have both been lissom, not trying to get their hands dirty. their star studded performance at the debate is still a plus for them. yet, despite that ,they dont have the political machinery to pull a jet li stunt come Saturday and its also argued that great orators dont actually make good leaders.

THE BIAFRAN FACTOR:Any political pundit cannot wish away the biafran factor.Anambarians will also have to choose between performing a civic duty and honoring a cause some of them believe in.Those who may decide to stay back home may be the ultimate factor that will help determine who wins as most candidates may loose the vote of their supporters who decide to stay at home.
However the whole drama pans out on Saturday, one thing is clear, and thats the fact that anambarians are at a cross road.
